Hey this is Reuben with compettition accessories. Today we are going to be taking a detailed look at the shoei qwest. This is shoei touring helmet. This helmet has come out pretty recently which has somewhat replaced the shoei tzr which i have one of those up here to show you. Kind of in that same price point. But it has a lil bit more features geared towards touring. It has better ventaliation and a different shell shape. So if you take a look at the shoei qwest and the TZR side by side, you can tell what the differeneces are between the two of them there. Definitely more of an upright riding position helmet, it has a wider eye port to have better visibility out of the helmet. But we are going to kind of dig into this helmet here, and I will show you what it is all about. So taking a look at the ventalation features of this helmet, you have a nice large chin bar vent which is going to allow air to come in and keep your faceshield from fogging. A little bit of air through your face. The top air scoop is nice and large and you will notice it sits up nice and tall on the helmet. For those guys who sit up tall on those big touring bikes and have a lot of wind protection on your bike, this helmet will have a vent that sits up high enough on the helmet to block the wind. This helmet has two closable rear vents that are gonna draw warm air right out of the helmet. Talking about the shell, this helmet uses shoei AIm plus shell which stands for advanced integrated matrix plus multi fiber which is kind of a mouth full there. Carbon kevlar fiberglass composite and the helmet is snell 2010 and DOT approved. This helmet is quiet and is its claim to fame. it is 1.25 decibels quiter than the RF-1100 and that is largely impart to the vents. It has a lil bit less ventalation features, but for you guys that are riding longer distances, you are on the road all day long, you need your helmet to be as quiet as possible. Taking a look at the face shield on this helmet, this is the same faceshield that is used on their shoei qwest, rf-1100, and X12. So if you are moving between helmets in the shoei lineup, you can still use the same shields. There is a pinlock system available for this so if you live in an aread where fogging or is more humid, you can get a shield with pinlock inserts to help keep the shield fog free. I have used one of their products before and it works really well, so if fogging is an issue, I would encourage you to check them out as well. The way the shield mechanism works, it is very nice and easy. On the side, the first thing that I will show you is the face shield locking mechanism. You tilt this little lever towards the back and it will lock the shield down in place and it can't fly open on you incase you are running at high speeds on your sport touring bike. You can also push the lever mechanism forward and it will give you a very small opening in the front of the helmet to allow for a lil bit more air to come in. so again if you are running into issues with fog or if its really hot you can crack the faceshield to get a little bit more air flow. As you can see there are several different detints that allow you to crack the faceshield even further allowing more air flow to come inside of the helmet. There are ratchets points all the way up and down, so you have a lot of adjustability moving the faceshield up and down. To remove the shield, there are basically two shields on each side and you push that forward. If you get in nice and tight, you can see that lever there, that is basically allows you to remove the faceshield off. If you look at the top of the shield, it actually has a very large lip and it is kind of hard to see on camera. but it has a lip on top of the helmet and what that is going to allow it to do is give you a nice seal along the top of the gap. So if you are riding in the rain, you are not going to have water dripping down on the inside of your shield. So that is definitely a huge welcome feature for the touring rider. Let me go ahead and reinstall this shield here, you basically just line the pins up and it just clicks right on into place. Now we are going to take a look at the inside of this helmet. Okay so taking a look at the interior of the shoei qwest. Like I said at the beginning of the video, it has a wider opening so its going to be a lot easeier to get your head in and out. Now this helmet is a round oval fit so if you have a little bit fuller of a head, this helmet is probably going to work really well for you. The only thing removable about this helmet is the cheek pads, so I will go ahead and pop one of those out here for you. There are basically three snaps and then it comes right out and you can obviously take them out and wash them. and if you need to you can replace them or go up or down in size if necessary. They are a nice layered cheek pad, what they do is put down several layers of foam on the inside to give you a nice contoured shape. They feel really comfortable against your skin as well. One thing you will see behind this cheek pad is the recess which is perfect for installing a communication system. As I said earlier, this helmet has a nice chin bar space to install the microphone in space. As far as the chin curtain goes, it does come with this really small chin curtain here. If you need a larger one, there is one available as well. So that pretty much covers all the features of the shoei qwest helmet, and this helmet is great for long distance touring riding. Solids are going to start at just over 300 dollars and the graphic at just over 400 dollars. Another neat feature is that shoei does come with a five year warranty policy from the date of purchase or seven year from the date of manufactre. Shoei has a great inspection policy that if you drop your helmet or have a crash with it, you can send it back to shoei and they will inspect the helmet for free. They will even cover the cost of return freight back to you.

All Shoei helmets undergo rigorous wind tunnel testing in developing a design that can withstand severe real world riding conditions.

  • Upper Air Intake Vent is positioned to maximize air volume into the helmet interior
  • High performance fiber materials are combined with extremely elastic organic fibers to create a shell structure that is ultra lightweight, rigid and resilient
  • 3-D center pad and multi-layered, polyurethane foam cheek pads
  • Q.R.S.A. (Quick-Release Self-Adjusting) base plate allows for tool-less shield removal and installation
  • The spring-loaded base plate (U.S. patent pending 11/799935) pulls the shield back to contact the window beading evenly and ensures a proper seal
  • Scratch-resistant coating

Great Helmet - P. B.   MO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Great ventilation and visibility
    Cons: Price, sizing

This is my first Shoei. It will not be my last. I usually wear a XL in a HJC so that's what I ordered. It was far too big so I had to return and get a L. It fits great. Has built in recesses for speakers, the first helmet that I have owned where you could actually feel the ventilation. I took it out of the box and wore it for a 2800 miles road trip. Excellent fit and comfort. Much quieter than any other helmet I have owned too. The largest drawback for me is the price. If this hadn't been on clearance I probably wouldn't have had the experience of a quality helmet. Well worth the 300 I paid.

Excellent choice - hospwr   ME Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Supremely quiet, great visibility, weight or lack thereof
    Cons: [None]

I've mostly used Shoei helmets over the years. This is by far the quietest, most comfortable helmet I've ever owned. The shield mechanism if very good and the fit is superb.

Qwest - Flex   MA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Light weight,Color,It's a Shoei and it was on sale.
    Cons: Wait there is none.

What can I say about this helmet Well this is my second Shoei and I love it. This helmet is less noisy than most that I have tried. The X-eleven I own previously had more vents, so the noise level was greater. I know the X-eleven is a different type but the Qwest suits my needs at this stage of the game. I also wanted a high visible helmet and this one fit the bill. Very comfortable, something expected from Shoei. The order was fast and the price is good. Thank you Competition Accessories.

Shoei Quest - Earl MagnaV4   ID Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Perfect comfortable fit after break-in. Quiet ride like in a car. Good visibility.
    Cons: [None]

This is an expensive helmet with the latest improvements and science in aerodynamics helping in creating safety at the same time as giving consideration for comfort and wind noise. Great value with Competition Accessories after looking everywhere else. Have a safe ride

Why did I wait so long - Rick Duncan   NM Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Fit, Finish, Visability
Cons: Manufacturing date already almost 4 years old 112010

When I started riding a few years ago I picked up a helmet based on what was provided at my Basic riders course as a loaner. I ended up getting a XXL in that brandmodel based on the shops recommendation when I bought it. Felt fine and still have that helmet. I decided I wantedneeded a new helmet due to age and general wear and tear of my existing one. I've liked the Qwest series as I ride in a more upright position and everything I read indicates this was designed for that. I also wanted either a white or hi-viz type helmet. When CompAcc offered this at a great deal I bit. Now, sizing....that's always a big deal. Many fit but after time really cause pressure on a certain part of ones head. Based on sizing charts I went down a size and ordered a XL. Glad I did, slightly tight in the cheeks area and I considered getting thinner pads. Decided to leave it alone and after a couple weeks seems to really fit just fine. The finish of the graphics is great. Hi-Vis without looking to garish on a middle aged riders head. Again I normally try and get a solid color but this was a good compromise. Generally quiet but I also wear foam earplugs when I ride. I will admit, it doesn't seem to have super good air flow but I suspect that contributes to the quiet nature of the helmet. So, am I glad I picked this up You bet....it meets all my requirements and when I had a question and e-mailed Shoei, I received an answer withing 24 hours.

Great quiet helmet - Robert   WI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Quiet, Good Looking, Snug
    Cons: None yet

This helmet is much nicer than my old HJC helmet. It is quieter on the road and more comfortable.

    Dutch1957
Only had this helmet now for a couple of weeks, but used it nearly every day since then. I've had the Shoei Multi-tec for about 3 years and at least 50k miles in that one. The Multi-tec was the first brain bucket purchased, but since then I've had no less than 7 other brands to try as well. Now I finally realized that my head is definitely made solely for the Shoei helmet shape. Glad I went back. I wanted a full face, non modular helmet for hopefully a quieter ride and the reduced weight configuration. This Overt filled the bill on both accounts. The cheeks are a bit tight just like the Multi-tec was initially but I'm sure that with continued long riding, after 4 or 5000 miles in it; the Qwest too will be just as comfortable. What sold me on this color scheme was when I say the OVERT in a local dealership. WOW! The color scheme as well as the clear coat finish really Snaps, to put it mildly! I'm super consciensous about safety and this one looks so much better than just the plain "neon yellow" solids. It has the Safety factor, without the total "dweeb" look. Like I stated above, it is extremely light weight and rock solid to say the least. The only Con I have to say it that I'm having a bit of some confusion as to how to change out the cheek pads. I tried once but was afraid of pulling out on something that wasn't really meant to be torn away. Maybe a quick call to someone will remedy this situation.
Great Helmet on a Happy Owner !!

Great price on good Helmet - TrapperB   MO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Most comfortable full coverage I ever had
Cons: Higher than expexted wind noise

Right after buying I did several 3 to 4 hour rides with this helmet. I wear an XXL so most helmets do not fit that well. It fits great and is very easy on my forehead. I could keep this on without feeling any pain in forehead. I ride a Goldwing so I removed the face shield after the first week. Hemet is very quit with shield down but with it off is just as load from wind as my open face. Not a lot of wind behind my screen so I did not expect this. I would buy this again in a heartbeat because of the comfort and the wind is something I have lived with for 30 years so no game changer for me.

Shoei Qwest - newtball   NV Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Bright, cool paint better than solid hi-viz yellow helmets IMO
Cons: Ventilation is good, but not great.

My first Shoei helmet I have only owned Arai in the past, and I am happy. After trying on every Shoei helmet, the Qwest fit me best. I was also looking for a hi-viz yellow helmet, as my bike and gear are mostly black. My fellow drivers really seem to notice me nowQuality and workmanship seem top-notch, and changing visors is super easy.

Shoei Qwest - EFS   VA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Light, Quiet, Good quality
    Cons: Shield fogs easily

This helmet is light, pretty quiet and of good quality which is what you would expect from Shoei. But the shield that comes with it fogs very easily. You need to go ahead and plan on buying the pinlock shield and insert if buying this helmet. Also, a communications system works well with this helmet but may take more installation time since the inner liner is not removable.

Tried one, now I'm hooked - Dutch1957   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Works like stated
Cons: IN the summer heat, after 18 months of use the liner seal became unbonded

THis set-up does indeed work in cold humid air conditions. It does take about 5 to 10 mins for the air barrier entrapped to become effective. Until that time, it does still fog abit.

Shoei RF-1100 and Qwest Breath Guard and Chin Curtain Replacement Parts - Johnny from Miami, Florida   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Excellent Quality and Very Effective. Much cheaper at Competition Accessories.
Cons: Not better quality than HJC or Scorpion - at least not initially. Very pricey if you were to purchase at a bike shop.

After years of using Scorpion and HJC I purchased a Shoei RF-1100. It was a store demo that did not have a breath guard or chin curtain. I do a lot of highway riding on a bike with no wind shield. At 70 mph the Shoei is dramatically much more aerodynamic and comfortable at highway speeds than either of the aforementioned. But Shoei is notoriously infamous for fogging and booming and my RF-1100 was true to its reputation. I ordered the Qwest breath guard and chin curtain which fits many other Shoei models and those problems were immediately eliminated when I installed them. The only disappointment was that neither seemed to be much better quality than what I had in my Scorpion and HJC but then again the curtain on HJC is sagging like a bad paint job and the breath guard on the Scorpion wont stay on anymore and I only used those helmets for a couple of years each. But like everything else with Shoei, the difference in quality is most evident over time under actual riding conditions.

RF1100 37mm cheek pads - Thicker pads to fit better   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Better fit than original pads and make the fit of helmet more secure
    Cons: none

I bought these 37mm pads as back ups to my standard 35mm pads that were still in good shape. The fit for me is better now than the stock pads and I have noticed that the way they clip into the helmet holds them more securely. The old pads would come loose in the rear at my neck after a few times of putting on and taking off the helmet. At a close look I noticed that the pads, where they slide into the slot in the back, are made a little differently and hold in better.

Pros: Comfortable, quiet, proud to own.
    Cons: None

This helmet is a huge upgrade from my Zox and Bilt. They both were good but the Quest is so much better. I ride a Harley and needed a new helmet. The fit is so comfortable and the quality is so much better as far as the head and check pads. The visor is so clear and precise it's like you don't have one. I use the light smoke all they time. Very quiet , lots of air flow, good look, and to protect my head the price is more than fair. Buy now.

Pros: Very Clear with Excellent Interchangability
    Cons: None

If you are like me, the clear face shield may be good at night but in the Texas sun, you definitely are going to need a tinted or smoke colored face shield. The Dark Smoke shield from Shoei was easy to install based upon their easy interchange system. This helmet and system is top notch with minimal noise and gives you a good seal. If your considering an alternate face shield you won't go wrong with this. At 45.00 the price was acceptable as far as I am concerned.

I bought the dark smoke as an extra shield to the RF1100 that comes with a clear shield. It works great, easy to attachremove, not too dark that you can't see at night but enough that you can ride into the sun and actually see where you're going. I've cleaned bugs off by running it under water and wiping it off with a no-scratch cloth.

Pros: Perfect tint Easy to Install
    Cons: Price

This shield works exactly as advertised. It is easy to install and have had no issue openingclosing it. The tint is the perfect amount for a sunny day but not too much for night either. I don't like carrying extra shields with me when I ride so this one works well no matter the time of the day. At night, it can be a little dark on rural roads so I simply angle my helmet up a little bit which allows me to see thru the less tinted area of the shield. Only drawback is the price for this shield. This is the price I expect to pay for a shield with reflective coatings. It works and I would recommend to others. Guess that's all that really matters.

Pros: Helmet Fit and quality. Lenses Easily exchanged. Virtually no distortion. Quality construction.
Cons: Helmet Difficult, if not impossible, to fit comm set. Lenses None.

I have the Shoei X-12 Glory 2 Size XL with clear and Spectra Silver lenses. I recommend this helmet as the very best for all applications, except when you need a comm set. I went to a communications specialist store and they were unable, even with on-the-phone support from Shoei, to fit a comm set that I could comfortably wear without cutting some liner foam, which of course they advised against. In all other aspects this helmet exceeds my very high expectations. Is it expensive Yes. My thought, If you have a 10 head you should wear a 10 helmet. The lenses will meet all your expectations. However, they are not adverised to be fog proff and they are not. And all the cheap fog sprays and wipes will not make them so. Solution I just ordered the fog proof shield and inserts from my favorite supplier, Competition Accessories. Shoei. You meet the most intelligent people wearing the brand.

Outstanding product - Terry   OH Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Fit, looks, noise level
    Cons: Cost of parts.

Overall the Qwest is a great helmet. I have one for myself and one for my girlfriend. The fit is excellent and the matt coloring looks great, in my opinion. I appreciate how quiet it is when you cinch in the face shield. There is just a hint of wind noise but not like my old helmet which sounded like I was in a wind tunnel. My only major complaint is the cost of the accessories. I think 90 for a mirrored face shield is a tad on the high side. And the slap in the face is that Bell beat Shoei with the release of theit transition face shield...now that would be worth 90. Even that won't stop me from buying Shoei in the future.

Comfy and quiet - 06Honda VFR   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Quiet, Very Comfortable, Easy use Shield, High Quality
Cons: Could use a stronger ventilation design

As i had heard before, this model could use a tad better air flow system, especially on hot muggy days. But, on most days, this is a really nice helmet. The fit is nice n smug, no pressure points, justa nice smooth fit. I also noticed that it's quieter than my RF-1100 Vermulean model. maybe due toless protruding vents compared to the RF-1100 but it's noticeably quieter at all speeds. The shield operates smoothly and closes with less gaps. It's well built and the quality shows..

Great helmet - still kinda noisy - Gasser57   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Great fit, comfortable, multiple visor positions, ventilation, looks good
Cons: Not as quiet as advertised.

I've had my Qwest for over a month1000k miles and really like it. Very comfortable and roomier in the chin than my old Suomy - my face doesn't feel mashed up against the helmet. Like most have commented though, it's still pretty noisy, especially on the left side for some reason. I find if I tilt my head down a little it's quieter, as if the vents on the top are positioned for a greater lean angle, even though the Qwest was supposedly designed for a standard, upright position. So I still wear earplugs on longer rides. Still, for 320 it's a great helmet. Weighs 3 lbs. 11oz. for a large, and while my Suomy only weighed 3 lbs. the Qwest doesn't feel heavier probably due to the great fit and weight distribution.

Good Shoei Helmet - Brent Wallace   MO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Shoei Quality, good protection, color selection, wind noise, good vents
Cons: not a removable inner liner

Bought this helmet for my wife and she likes it. My biggest problem with it was the inner liner was not removable. She will riding two up on the back every so often so it won't get much use. If is is an every day user, may want to find one with removable liner.

I ordered the new Qwest to replace my Sparx great helmet for more safety. The helmet looks great Anthracite color is awesome. It is comfortable and is pretty quiet. I ride a Triumph Tiger so no helmet will be "quiet" but this is as good as it gets. The optics are great and I recommend the pin lock for anti-fogging...I will need to get those. I ride with the shield partially open usually anyway so mute point. I tried an Arai Quantum 2 and it was so loud...booming...had to ride back home and switch helmets. It was nice but not for me!

    Almost Perfect
I bought a Shoei Qwest full face helmet a couple of weeks ago and it's almost perfect. It's a good-looking helmet, warm in the winter, and easy to open or close the vent ports. The fit is snug getting it on and off but you want that--that's a good thing. You don't want a loose helmet. The paint on the light silver I bought was flawless and offers good visibility. It's reasonably quiet over my last helmet, and I ride a cruiser with a windshield. The only downside is the chin strap center pad material is thin and flimsy and falls off to the side, causing the strap itself to cut into the neck. Shoei needs to redesign this using a thicker, more rigid but still comfortable chin pad material. I had to sew a few stitches to join the strap and material so they wouldn't separate. I don't think the center pad material will last very long. Not a big deal, but for the price I paid I want a very comfortable helmet all the way around that will last several seasons of riding. Other than that, it's a great helmet. Shoei, fix the chin strap center pads material!!!

So So - Shoei Qwest   CA Recommended by Reviewer: No
    Pros: Solid construction
Cons: Cost is way too high for what you get

The product fits well but it is not quiet at all. At highway speed the wind passes through the visor attachment points and produces a very high pitch noise that drives me crazy. Wish I had bought a different helmet and after three weeks of this disaster I probably will.

I got the Quest in white, it's nicely made and really comfortable, but unlike the other reviewers here, I do not find it quiet at all. Subjectively it seems much louder than either my Shoei RF1000 or AGV S-4. I'm riding a G650 with no windshield and an F800ST. I've played with all the vent permutations to no effect. Unfortunately I bought it purely for the promise of it being "The quietest", which I'm finding it not to be. The RF1000 and AGV also seem to vent more aggressively. Otherwise a great helmet.
