Video Reviews
Hey this is Reuben with compettition accessories. Today we are going to be taking a detailed look at the shoei qwest. This is shoei touring helmet. This helmet has come out pretty recently which has somewhat replaced the shoei tzr which i have one of those up here to show you. Kind of in that same price point. But it has a lil bit more features geared towards touring. It has better ventaliation and a different shell shape. So if you take a look at the shoei qwest and the TZR side by side, you can tell what the differeneces are between the two of them there. Definitely more of an upright riding position helmet, it has a wider eye port to have better visibility out of the helmet. But we are going to kind of dig into this helmet here, and I will show you what it is all about. So taking a look at the ventalation features of this helmet, you have a nice large chin bar vent which is going to allow air to come in and keep your faceshield from fogging. A little bit of air through your face. The top air scoop is nice and large and you will notice it sits up nice and tall on the helmet. For those guys who sit up tall on those big touring bikes and have a lot of wind protection on your bike, this helmet will have a vent that sits up high enough on the helmet to block the wind. This helmet has two closable rear vents that are gonna draw warm air right out of the helmet. Talking about the shell, this helmet uses shoei AIm plus shell which stands for advanced integrated matrix plus multi fiber which is kind of a mouth full there. Carbon kevlar fiberglass composite and the helmet is snell 2010 and DOT approved. This helmet is quiet and is its claim to fame. it is 1.25 decibels quiter than the RF-1100 and that is largely impart to the vents. It has a lil bit less ventalation features, but for you guys that are riding longer distances, you are on the road all day long, you need your helmet to be as quiet as possible. Taking a look at the face shield on this helmet, this is the same faceshield that is used on their shoei qwest, rf-1100, and X12. So if you are moving between helmets in the shoei lineup, you can still use the same shields. There is a pinlock system available for this so if you live in an aread where fogging or is more humid, you can get a shield with pinlock inserts to help keep the shield fog free. I have used one of their products before and it works really well, so if fogging is an issue, I would encourage you to check them out as well. The way the shield mechanism works, it is very nice and easy. On the side, the first thing that I will show you is the face shield locking mechanism. You tilt this little lever towards the back and it will lock the shield down in place and it can't fly open on you incase you are running at high speeds on your sport touring bike. You can also push the lever mechanism forward and it will give you a very small opening in the front of the helmet to allow for a lil bit more air to come in. so again if you are running into issues with fog or if its really hot you can crack the faceshield to get a little bit more air flow. As you can see there are several different detints that allow you to crack the faceshield even further allowing more air flow to come inside of the helmet. There are ratchets points all the way up and down, so you have a lot of adjustability moving the faceshield up and down. To remove the shield, there are basically two shields on each side and you push that forward. If you get in nice and tight, you can see that lever there, that is basically allows you to remove the faceshield off. If you look at the top of the shield, it actually has a very large lip and it is kind of hard to see on camera. but it has a lip on top of the helmet and what that is going to allow it to do is give you a nice seal along the top of the gap. So if you are riding in the rain, you are not going to have water dripping down on the inside of your shield. So that is definitely a huge welcome feature for the touring rider. Let me go ahead and reinstall this shield here, you basically just line the pins up and it just clicks right on into place. Now we are going to take a look at the inside of this helmet. Okay so taking a look at the interior of the shoei qwest. Like I said at the beginning of the video, it has a wider opening so its going to be a lot easeier to get your head in and out. Now this helmet is a round oval fit so if you have a little bit fuller of a head, this helmet is probably going to work really well for you. The only thing removable about this helmet is the cheek pads, so I will go ahead and pop one of those out here for you. There are basically three snaps and then it comes right out and you can obviously take them out and wash them. and if you need to you can replace them or go up or down in size if necessary. They are a nice layered cheek pad, what they do is put down several layers of foam on the inside to give you a nice contoured shape. They feel really comfortable against your skin as well. One thing you will see behind this cheek pad is the recess which is perfect for installing a communication system. As I said earlier, this helmet has a nice chin bar space to install the microphone in space. As far as the chin curtain goes, it does come with this really small chin curtain here. If you need a larger one, there is one available as well. So that pretty much covers all the features of the shoei qwest helmet, and this helmet is great for long distance touring riding. Solids are going to start at just over 300 dollars and the graphic at just over 400 dollars. Another neat feature is that shoei does come with a five year warranty policy from the date of purchase or seven year from the date of manufactre. Shoei has a great inspection policy that if you drop your helmet or have a crash with it, you can send it back to shoei and they will inspect the helmet for free. They will even cover the cost of return freight back to you.

Perfect - Keith   NE Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Very quite, comfortable, plush
Cons: Difficult to install headset as headliner does not remove

Excellent helmet, very quiet. Arrived right on time, and was well packed. Couldn't beat the price anywhere. Completely satisfied with this purchase.

So good I just bought a second one - Honda ST Pilot   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Comfortable-quiet- lightweight-excellent quality
    Cons: None

This will be my second Shoei Quest. I have been riding with my first Quest helmet for 5 seasons in all weather conditions and this helmet just plain works. It is so comfortable that I don't even think about it while wearing it,which is great as it allows me to focus on my riding. No pressure points and very quiet. When the Hi-Viz Quest in XL came on sale for 245.00 dollars I had to jump on it Pays to have a big head. I have been looking at high viz helmets and this Shoei Quest looks pretty cool . With over 50000 miles of use on my Quest helmet both the interior and the shell still look and function as new, all of the vents and moving parts still work great. I know Shoei makes more expensive helmets and I am sure they are great but It's hard to beat the value of the Quest. Buy this quality product with confidence

GOOD TIMES - JOHN   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: IT FITS GOOD

Perfect fit. Super quiet - kawac14   NJ Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Very quiet. Highly visible
    Cons: None

This replaces a 6 year old HJC. The XL size fits me perfectly. I immediately noticed that this helmet was MUCH quieter than my previous two helmets. I have a large windscreen and on the highway, there's almost no noise with this helmet. I want a helmet with high visibility and I was a little concerned from the catalog pictures that this would not be bright enough. What the pictures don't show is that the trim stripes are actually reflective, so the nighttime visibility is actually higher than an all-yellow helmet without the trim. One minor negative The manufacturer Shoei warrants the helmet for 5 yrs from purchase or 7 yrs from manufacture date--WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. It wasn't until receiving the helmet that I noticed that the helmet was made in Dec. 2011. I purchased it in Oct 2015. That means that my warranty would be only 3 years, not 5 or 7. My recommendation is that when buying any helmet, ask the retailer about the manufacture date, since that may determine your warranty, if any.

great helmet - kingklr   AZ Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: light weight, no need for ear plugs anymore
    Cons: [None]

Excellent helmet, very light and lets me ride without earplugs which I love. I moved from a scorpion flip up helmet, and will never go back. Looks good too and is true to size.

Graet Value - Garth Henkins   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Very good helmet...particularly for this price.
    Cons: [None]

This is a very good helmet. Shoei doesn't make any junk. I've had a number of Shoei helmets and this one ranks among the best. If you wear an XL helmet, grab one now.

Great helmet - Terry   AZ Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: high quality, comfortable, high visibility
    Cons: none

Shoei Qwest hi-viz is a quiet, super comfortable high quality full face helmet. The hi-viz with yellow, black and silver is high visibility without looking like a nerd. I ride a Harley with a windshield and I love this helmet so much that I had purchased a silver Qwest three years ago. People notice the hi-viz color and I notice that they notice me, which is good because I commute on my bike five days a week and I don't like other drivers not seeing me. No flip down sunshield but I like to wear my personal sunglasses, and the flip down sunshields don't seem high quality on any of the helmet brands anyway. Measure your head with a cloth tape measure, refer to Shoei sizing chart, and order accordingly. The fit was perfect. Shoei Qwest was designed mostly for sport touring and cruisers with a windshield. I've had the new helmet for about a month now and would order again. The clearance price helped too. Enjoy

Shoei Qwest Overt Helmet - Dave in Va.   VA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: comfort, low noise. well made.
Cons: inside padding not removable to clean.

This helmet has been everything I expected. It replaced my Scorpion EXO 1000. the scorpion would hurt my forehead on long rides this Shoei is more comfortable. The only downside would be the inside padding won't come out to clean. High vis is added safety. Great close out price and always good service from CompAcc.

Shoei QwestQuality - Everyday Rider   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Good fit, Quality helmet,Easy to use venting
    Cons: Sometimes the vent whistles

I was looking for another quality helmet that felt light weight, DOT and Snell approved. While I was at the local bike shop I came acrossed this helmet. Tried it on and fell in love with it. The features on the visor and the ease to use the vents with your heavy gloves on soldt me. It feels light weight and comfortable on. It blocks out most of the noise and wind that comes under the helmet. The lockable shield is a great feature. The only con for me is sometimes I get a whistle for the front vent when open. Think it comes more from the way my short windshield deflex the wind and not the helmet fault. If I adjust my head position just a little bit it stops or I can just open the shield a crack. At the time Competition Accessories beat everybody's price. WOW

Light and quiet - Mikestib1   VA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Great price on sale
Cons: Made in 2011 bought it this year so shell is already 3 yrs old

Much quieter and lighter than my HJC CL-16. No whistling when you turn your head at speed. Shield cannot be left open just a crack to prevent fogging. Usually buy size LG but medium fits fine after breaking in

Great brainbucket - BikerBob   MA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Quiet, good fit, great visability
    Cons: Goofy chinstrap tab

Excellent quality, typical of Shoei, very comfy.

Great Helmet - P. B.   MO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Great ventilation and visibility
    Cons: Price, sizing

This is my first Shoei. It will not be my last. I usually wear a XL in a HJC so that's what I ordered. It was far too big so I had to return and get a L. It fits great. Has built in recesses for speakers, the first helmet that I have owned where you could actually feel the ventilation. I took it out of the box and wore it for a 2800 miles road trip. Excellent fit and comfort. Much quieter than any other helmet I have owned too. The largest drawback for me is the price. If this hadn't been on clearance I probably wouldn't have had the experience of a quality helmet. Well worth the 300 I paid.

Excellent choice - hospwr   ME Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Supremely quiet, great visibility, weight or lack thereof
    Cons: [None]

I've mostly used Shoei helmets over the years. This is by far the quietest, most comfortable helmet I've ever owned. The shield mechanism if very good and the fit is superb.

Qwest - Flex   MA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Light weight,Color,It's a Shoei and it was on sale.
    Cons: Wait there is none.

What can I say about this helmet Well this is my second Shoei and I love it. This helmet is less noisy than most that I have tried. The X-eleven I own previously had more vents, so the noise level was greater. I know the X-eleven is a different type but the Qwest suits my needs at this stage of the game. I also wanted a high visible helmet and this one fit the bill. Very comfortable, something expected from Shoei. The order was fast and the price is good. Thank you Competition Accessories.

Shoei Quest - Earl MagnaV4   ID Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Perfect comfortable fit after break-in. Quiet ride like in a car. Good visibility.
    Cons: [None]

This is an expensive helmet with the latest improvements and science in aerodynamics helping in creating safety at the same time as giving consideration for comfort and wind noise. Great value with Competition Accessories after looking everywhere else. Have a safe ride

Why did I wait so long - Rick Duncan   NM Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Fit, Finish, Visability
Cons: Manufacturing date already almost 4 years old 112010

When I started riding a few years ago I picked up a helmet based on what was provided at my Basic riders course as a loaner. I ended up getting a XXL in that brandmodel based on the shops recommendation when I bought it. Felt fine and still have that helmet. I decided I wantedneeded a new helmet due to age and general wear and tear of my existing one. I've liked the Qwest series as I ride in a more upright position and everything I read indicates this was designed for that. I also wanted either a white or hi-viz type helmet. When CompAcc offered this at a great deal I bit. Now, sizing....that's always a big deal. Many fit but after time really cause pressure on a certain part of ones head. Based on sizing charts I went down a size and ordered a XL. Glad I did, slightly tight in the cheeks area and I considered getting thinner pads. Decided to leave it alone and after a couple weeks seems to really fit just fine. The finish of the graphics is great. Hi-Vis without looking to garish on a middle aged riders head. Again I normally try and get a solid color but this was a good compromise. Generally quiet but I also wear foam earplugs when I ride. I will admit, it doesn't seem to have super good air flow but I suspect that contributes to the quiet nature of the helmet. So, am I glad I picked this up You meets all my requirements and when I had a question and e-mailed Shoei, I received an answer withing 24 hours.

SHoei QWEST HI VIZ Helmet - Keith, SLC UT   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Hi VIz helps 2 B seen, Fit, Value
    Cons: Fogging like most helmets

Works as u would expect. Noticing others c me better. Also wear sliders Hi Viz jackets to help. Quieter than my Arai. If u ride in Urban Jungle buy thissimilar helmet 2 b seen. As always customer service most excellent.

Great quiet helmet - Robert   WI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Quiet, Good Looking, Snug
    Cons: None yet

This helmet is much nicer than my old HJC helmet. It is quieter on the road and more comfortable.

Only had this helmet now for a couple of weeks, but used it nearly every day since then. I've had the Shoei Multi-tec for about 3 years and at least 50k miles in that one. The Multi-tec was the first brain bucket purchased, but since then I've had no less than 7 other brands to try as well. Now I finally realized that my head is definitely made solely for the Shoei helmet shape. Glad I went back. I wanted a full face, non modular helmet for hopefully a quieter ride and the reduced weight configuration. This Overt filled the bill on both accounts. The cheeks are a bit tight just like the Multi-tec was initially but I'm sure that with continued long riding, after 4 or 5000 miles in it; the Qwest too will be just as comfortable. What sold me on this color scheme was when I say the OVERT in a local dealership. WOW! The color scheme as well as the clear coat finish really Snaps, to put it mildly! I'm super consciensous about safety and this one looks so much better than just the plain "neon yellow" solids. It has the Safety factor, without the total "dweeb" look. Like I stated above, it is extremely light weight and rock solid to say the least. The only Con I have to say it that I'm having a bit of some confusion as to how to change out the cheek pads. I tried once but was afraid of pulling out on something that wasn't really meant to be torn away. Maybe a quick call to someone will remedy this situation.
Great Helmet on a Happy Owner !!

Shoei quest - Bill b   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Great price nice finish
Cons: Fit was snug cheek pads way to tight for an xl

Loved the helmet but had to return it..cheek pads way to old rf1100 fit great in xl..Good helmet if your on smaller side of xl.or if you want to spend more money on smaller pads

Great price on good Helmet - TrapperB   MO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Most comfortable full coverage I ever had
Cons: Higher than expexted wind noise

Right after buying I did several 3 to 4 hour rides with this helmet. I wear an XXL so most helmets do not fit that well. It fits great and is very easy on my forehead. I could keep this on without feeling any pain in forehead. I ride a Goldwing so I removed the face shield after the first week. Hemet is very quit with shield down but with it off is just as load from wind as my open face. Not a lot of wind behind my screen so I did not expect this. I would buy this again in a heartbeat because of the comfort and the wind is something I have lived with for 30 years so no game changer for me.

Shoei Qwest - newtball   NV Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Bright, cool paint better than solid hi-viz yellow helmets IMO
Cons: Ventilation is good, but not great.

My first Shoei helmet I have only owned Arai in the past, and I am happy. After trying on every Shoei helmet, the Qwest fit me best. I was also looking for a hi-viz yellow helmet, as my bike and gear are mostly black. My fellow drivers really seem to notice me nowQuality and workmanship seem top-notch, and changing visors is super easy.

Shoei Qwest - EFS   VA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Light, Quiet, Good quality
    Cons: Shield fogs easily

This helmet is light, pretty quiet and of good quality which is what you would expect from Shoei. But the shield that comes with it fogs very easily. You need to go ahead and plan on buying the pinlock shield and insert if buying this helmet. Also, a communications system works well with this helmet but may take more installation time since the inner liner is not removable.
