Hey this is Reuben with Competition Accessories welcome to our first ride in the Shoei RF1200. Now you may be looking at this video and thinking wait a minute that's a RF1100 on his head, That's right. Good Job. What I'm actually going to do in this video is do a real world ride test in comparison between the RF1200 which is all new and the Shoei RF1100. I think a RF-1100 vs RF-1200 comparison is worth doing for sure because a lot of you guys are Shoei helmet fans, and rightly so, they make a fantastic motorcycle helmet. Alright i just switched into the new Shoei RF1200 helmet and i literally just swapped it out after wearing a Shoei RF1100 so back to back comparison should reveal just how much improvement they have made. Now the Shoei RF1000 was also extremely well received very popular helmet design . A lot of people from what I've heard from feedback over the years, I've heard a lot of people actually prefer the RF1000 to the RF1100 of coarse it all comes down to personal preference . When i look at the RF1200 i think Shoei has really gone back in that direction back to a more compact shell, its definitely a lighter weight helmet which is always a good thing. Shoei said its one of the lightest SNELL full faced helmets they have ever produced which is great. So first impression putting it on its definitely got a tighter opening to put your head into the helmet and over all i would say its a little bit more snug actually , a little bit more of a sporty fit. Head shape is the same, its kind of a intermediate oval, But i definitely feel a little bit better of a seal at the base of the shell and around the jaw line which is very important on reducing wind noise. Were going to get up to speed to see how it sounds here . Lets see that's 80mph indicated right there. Head checks no problem , not really getting any type of whistling. Again the shield mechanism you don't have that lock on the side it actually just locks into place with the tab on the side and you'll notice that the tab is angled down like the RF 1100 tab was and its moved over again to reduce wind noise. Now I'm going to open these vents up you have just one slider switch on the back now to open the vent , and you have a new forehead vent which i have to hunt for because Ive never used it before .There we go i got that opened , chin bar vent actually has two positions. I can actually feel air from that going up onto the face shield that feels good. Obviously i didn't install the pin lock insert and lets go ahead and open these upper vents here. Okay cruising with all the vents open, You could say its similar to the RF1100. Of coarse its kind of difficult to tell exactly how much air is coming threw the helmet and i know Shoei did a lot of wind tunnel testing for aerodynamics and also for ventilation . But in the real world it feels about the same definitely not a dramatic difference , which is not a bad thing let me just clear that right up. The Shoei RF1100 was a very well vented helmet in my opinion, i think it flowed a good amount of air for the category that its in . Its not on the same level as the X12 which is Shoei's top of the line race helmet but it was a good amount of air flow. As far as aerodynamics go it feels very stable . The eye port is definitely dramatically improved i would say. The RF1100 eye port wasn't distracting in any way but looking out of this thing I've got a lot more vision especially out of the top of the shield not the same along the bottom but the peripherals and along the top which is improved for sure which is fantastic for you guys when you get in that sporty tucked position you can look out the top of it the new base plate mechanism also has it seems like more detente through out the range and definitely more pronounced detentes . Your getting definitely more positive clicks at each step. Now it doesn't have that lever on the side for the city position but you can crack it and it stops in this position here and this is the first real detente. You can see this is quite a bit larger of an opening in the bottom of the shield there which is good for when its really cold or foggy out. Were going to leave it open for a minute just to see how it feels. On the Shoei RF1100 in the sitting position you definitely have a bit of whistling in the Shoei RF1200 with this more pronounced crack I'm not getting any whistling but i am getting definitely a lot more air up into my face and eyes probably a little too much for the freeway really. You can just pop the lock and leave it in that position but it seems to obviously with the wind pushing it its pushing it closed a little bit so your not really getting much air flow down that way . I definitely like that you can open and close the rear vent with just one single motion its a much faster operation then opening and closing four individual vents . I'm getting virtually no air flow and that's without a chin curtain up inside the face shield or up inside the front of the helmet .A lot of motorcycle helmets will end up getting quite a bit of air up threw the bottom and you have to have a chin curtain installed especially in colder weather , not so on this one. And for my particular face these actually fit pretty well pretty comfortably , and i have enough room in the chin bar where i can stick my lips all the way out and they are not touching the chin bar. That's a good thing to and its not sticking out so far that I'm getting a lot of unwanted wind in the helmet. Alright well that's been our real world review first ride test of the Shoei RF1200.
Hey guys this is Reuben with Competition Accessories welcome to our in depth review of the Shoei RF1200. This is obviously the helmet that is replacing the RF1100 and the predecessor before that one was the venerable RF1000 one of the most popular full face Shoei helmets ever. It kind of fits the gap right between their high end X12 race helmet and the Quest which is kind of their entry level touring helmet if you will if I can call any Shoei helmet an entry level. Shoeis not know for building helmet to a price point they build helmets to a quality standard and for a specific purpose. Now the RF1200 and the RF line of helmets is a very good choice if you kind of need a do it all helmet. Your looking at commuting long distance touring weather your on a cruiser or a sport touring bike or a full on sport bike and your attacking the twisties in the canyon on the weekends maybe the occasional track day. This is a great do it all helmet great blend between aerodynamics and ventilation and a nice quiet ride . When you start adding a lot of vents like a lot of race helmets have you start getting a little bit more wind noise and things just aren't quite as practical for street use in a race helmet. So this helmet is a great do it all helmet, and its obviously not as expensive as a race helmet too so there's a bonus there. We have a separate video actually two separate videos on comparing the RF1100 directly with the RF 1200 a kind of head to head comparison and then a real world review Ive actually already taken this out on the bike done some riding in it to give you my impressions kind of my first thoughts on how this helmet handles with wind on the freeway around town definitely a fantastic lid so definitely check those helmets out the videos as well. In this video were just going to talk about the helmet itself and what its made up of . Its coming in four different shell sizes and its Shoeis advanced integrated matrix plus multi fiber shell, so that's what they call their AIM plus shell. Its actually fiber glass and other organic fibers sandwiched together to give you a very strong light weight shell. The shell is your first line of defence, so don't discount how important this is .If you hit your head its going to do the first part its going to play the first roll dispersing the impact into a larger area so that the internal foam can manage that impact. If you have a really flexible soft shell its going to collapse right in the area where your head hits which leaves a lot of pressure on the EPS liner which is going to be transferred to your head.Having a good strong shell is going to be a good important feature . Shoei is no stranger to making a good strong shell. Speaking of the shell they have also made it a more compact shape so its smaller then the RF 1100 and its a little bit more aerodynamic as well they have gone back to an integrated wing like you had on the RF1000 . So a little bit more compact a little bit more aerodynamic and the best thing about it is its Shoei's lightest full faced helmet SNELL certified helmet . You are looking at 3.4 pounds for a size large helmet and remember the shells are going to weigh slightly different amounts but your looking at under 3 and a half pounds significantly lighter then the RF1100 was. So a little bit more compact and light weight, Its a win win right there. There also giveing you a unique looking design right there at the base of the shell you can see it right there how it angles up and then it comes back down you have a little lip at the back here and again with stibility at speed .Shoei does extensive wind tunnel testing on all their helmets they know exactly how much air is going to flow over this helmet and exactly how its going to effect the feel and the noise levels as you are riding depending on if your on a naked bike or a bike with a windshield , what your head position is they really do their homework it really shows when you ride with one of these . Lets talk about the ventilation real quick they have changed that as well you now have a two position chin bar vent so you can open it fully or close it or leave it half way open . This works a lot like the defroster on your car its going to direct air up onto your face shield you can see the opening right there they are also including a breath deflector in the box so its going to help keep your breath off the face shield if you have a problem with fog ill talk about fog in a second. Right here above the shield you now not only have two intake chiming style vents at the top of the shell which is very similar to what you had on the RF1100 . They have added a third vent in the center which is this brow vent which operates with a small slider here , after a couple of rides you'll have that dialed in right in you'll know exactly where that slider is and it will give you additional airflow to the top of your head. Spinning it around looking at this rear wing not only does it help with aerodynamics reducing buffeting and lift its also going to help pull warm air out the back of the helmet very important to help keep you comfortable at speed and on hot summer days. You'll see its a simple slider switch at the back and there's actually 4 exhaust vents underneath there that you are opening and closing really a very simple slider which is great. The 1100 had 4 exhaust vents but you had to operate all of them individually which took a little bit longer to reach up there and open and close all of the vents so if you get caught in the rain you want to close the vents now its just a simple quick closure. Obviously these vents are a little bit more hidden under the wing so rain is not going to be nearly as much of an issue with the vents on the back of the helmet well at least on this helmet. We talked about fog and fogging on the shield the shield is actually all new I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time talking about it or im not going to try to but they have done some really unique things. First things first pin lock ready and they are actually including the insert in the box, if your not familiar with pin lock we have a whole separate video on the pin lock system essentially what your getting here is an additional face shield to instal on the inside of your helmet shield which gives you a duel pane effect and you'll have a insulation bead of air in between the outer shell and the inner shield so that when your riding your hot breath is not fogging up the inner shield this is actually slightly absorbent and its insulating the inner shield from the outer shield so that your not getting fogging issues. Its definitely a great system. Shoei is also unveiling a transitions shield which some other manufactures have had for a while and Shoei is now finally coming out with one which is a really great versatile shield that's actually going to darken when its exposed to UV rays so stay tuned for that. This is an all new shield a CWR 1 and its going to have again a wider eye port i found them to be fairly noticeable a little bit more vision especially out of the top of the shield so you guys that are on sport bikes hitting higher speeds getting into a good tuck you can actually see out of this helmet really well especially out of the top of the shield which is great . They have done a couple of things to the shield itself that are really unique ,First they used some reinforcing ribs along the top and bottom of the shield itself it helps keep the shape of the shield a little bit better when your opening and closing it and at high speeds. They have also removed the shield lock on the side of the helmet you used to have on the previous versions a little lever on the side here where you could have it open or close either lock the shield or open it into the city position now the shield lock is built into the tab that you use to open and close the shield. Close it all the way you can give it a press you can hear that very solid click when it goes into place and that's going to give a positive lock there. Now Shoeis have been known in the past , and there has been certain models that suffered from helmet whistle. And that's when the shield doesn't seal up perfectly with the helmet shell and the gasket .Now in most cases its something you can adjust out not every body understood it . Shoei has actually developed a completely new base plate system for the CWR 1 , and if you take a look at it not only is it a new system it they finished it with an almost checkered board gave it a sort of carbon fiber look to the plastic so its no longer that molded plastic look it actually has a nice finish to it. In addition they have given you this candle here that gives you several positions which is going to move the base plates forward and backwards it comes with this one at least came with the base plate in the furthest forward position and Ive ridden in the helmet it felt like there was no undue wind noise actually a fairly quiet ride but if i wanted to i could turn this or if i felt the need to you can take a small screw driver and turn this adjustment knob its actually going to pull the base plate back slightly were talking a couple millimeters at most and that's going to help pull the shield down even tighter. If you look at base plate here when i close the shield you can see those springs compressing as it goes threw the detente range and when you finally get past the last detente those springs expand a little bit sucking that shield down nice and tight against that gasket . They also have given you a duel gasket right around the area that gives you problems around the shield here. You have two layers of gasket material and right here at the top , If you want to remove the shield its the trigger on the side here you give that a pull and you just pull the shield down slightly to get that lip out of the way and then you can pull the shield off the helmet very quickly between a dark smoke or a clear or any other shield if you chose to use its very quick to change the shields out but here you can see how far the gasket comes . That gap right there between the base plate and the gasket is very small most helmets give you a lot more room there which is more room for wind noise to happen. Shoei has done a really good job with this base plate system with reinstalling it just lines up and clicks down into place. Now lets take a look at the inside of the shell and the inside of the helmet. We have a moisture locking liner locking moisture even better then the previous RF1100 did. And they give you something else that is directly from their racing results and race experiences. Emergency Quick release street cheek pads you can see the yellow right here it says emergency use only , pull red tab to remove cheek pad so in the event that you go down or your knocked incautious or have any neck injures and they want to pull the helmet off your head , EMT or other paramedics can actually grab this tab pull directly down and you can see that cheek pad comes right out of the helmet. Do that on both sides and they will be able to remove both of these simple as that which gives you that much of an opening in the base of a shell that you can actually slide the helmet off the head with out causing unwanted further injury to the neck. Another thing that they have done as well that we saw the the GT-Air is they have given you speaker pockets for communication systems well look at the crown liner in a second , but the speaker pockets if your not running a communication system or speakers are actually padded and you can actually remove this if you want to install the speakers. This is great because if you don't have speakers in the helmet this is going to prevent that opening that kind of void by your ear which can lead to more wind noise . They give you a nice little padded piece of foam so it will absorb additional noise while your riding if you are going to install something like a Sena Bluetooth system or Scala Rider you can do that you can see the speaker pocket right here on the side which is going to be fantastic for installing the speaker. Looking at the EPS liner Shoei uses what they call a duel EPS liner which means they have a firmer , some areas of the helmet have a firmer foam other areas have a more soft foam what that allows them to do is progressively absorb impact. So the soft foam is going to take up that initial impact or lighter impact if you don't hit your head too hard and the firmer foam is going to take up where the softer foam leaves off. There is another reason why they do this though the round portion of the shell here with the EPS liner is actually added after the fact when they are building the helmet and inside of that you actually have air channels you cant see that they other wise wouldn't be able to instal in the shell or the EPS liner itself as air is coming in these front vents it actually has air passages inside the EPS for that air to actually come down throughout the top of the head here and also escape warm air out the back. Very very nice ventilation system if you take a look here you can see those vents that open here on the forehead they actually don't go straight in they actually come up and kind of flow threw a couple of passage ways inside the helmet to provide the ultimate amount of airflow vs just a straight hole threw the shell of the helmet . One thing that i did find when slipping this helmet on is a slightly snug fit on the base on the opening here especially compared to the RF1100 just a little bit more effort to pull the helmet onto my head , Now i don't count that as a bad thing the reason for that is when you have a really good seal up around the base of the jaw line and around your neck its actually helping to reduce wind noise because you don't want additional wind to rush past the bottom of the opening here . You can also see that the cheek pad is contoured nicely its a really nice soft plush material they use different types of foam different density's and different type of material to keep you comfortable you see they even lined the back of the cheek pad with a mesh style material again absorbing sound and preventing any unwanted wind from flowing up and causing any additional wind noise . Another thing that i like about the changes that they've made on this helmet is the bottom of the neck roll and the cheek pads are now a complete kind of a rubberized material your not getting that fabric right on the bottom which is great for if you've set your helmet down or on a sidewalk or a bench while your stopped your not getting a bunch of dirt and stuff tracked into the fabric its more of a durable finish which i think will hold up better over time. Looking at the crown liner there are a ton of pieces going into this thing it might not look like it but its all sorts of density in foam different areas to cradle your head keep it very comfortable for long periods of time they know that guys are going to be wearing these helmets for years and years and they also know you might be wearing it for hours and hours on end so they want it to be as comfortable as possible. As far as the fit goes its Shoeis traditional intermediate oval if you have a "Shoei head" this is going to fit you very well it fits very similar to the RF 1100 other then as i mentioned a little bit more effort to get the helmet on and off but in turn it made the helmet even quieter. So definitely very comfortable. Last but not least we have off to the side some of the things that are included in the box you have a helmet bag you also have a chin curtain. Now riding in this i didn't feel like there was a whole bunch of wind coming up the chin bar you can install this if you want a little bit more protection from the elements especially when its cold its always nice to have a chin curtain breath deflector is another thing for when its cold you can instal this it will help keep your breath off the shield , you get a sticker and a user manual there's also silicone oil to lube the pivot points of the shield mechanism making sure that's operating smoothly.
Hey guys this is Reuben with Competition Accessories welcome to our head to head comparison of Shoei RF1100 vs all new Shoei RF1200. Now if your familiar with the RF line of helmets going back the RF1000 was one of the more popular full face helmets ever to be produced certainly one of the most successful models for Shoei and they fall in right under their X line of helmets which is their flagged ship race helmets . Right now its the X12 and the X11 before that. Their very high end race helmets as well but they are very aggressively vented which they a little bit more noisy as far as the wind noise goes , and on top of that they are more expensive. For the every day rider who occasionally does that track day or is more of a commuter , long distance tourer or just attacking the twisties on the weekend when you can . The RF line of helmets is definitely a lot more affordable , but it also give you some advantages for the street like a quieter ride. Now looking at the two a lot of you are probably familiar with the RF1100 , I actually got a chance to ride in both of these earlier . They are both size medium which is the size i normally wear . First thing your going to notice when looking at these things side by side, is the RF1200 is actually physically a smaller helmet on the outside. They brought the shell dimensions in quite a bit to give you a more compact feel which is a fantastic thing. You can also see the RF1100 they integrated that rear spoiler into the shell itself which brought the shell out a little bit further and now they have gone with an add on integrated rear spoiler much like the RF1000. The other big advantage of actually shrinking the shell itself is the weight savings you have. You have 3.6 pounds for the RF1100 and then we throw RF1200 on the scale and your looking at 3.45 pounds , Under 3 and a half pounds. And that's going to translate into less neck fatigue and a more comfortable ride as you experience the open road for hours and hours on end. First thing i noticed when i pulled this helmet on my head is the opening is quite a bit smaller quite a bit more snug on the RF 1200 they actually brought the neck roll in quite a bit closer to the face which again translates into a quieter ride . This one is a little bit easier to get off and it is also a little bit more open at the bottom of the helmet . You'll also notice that the RF1100 has a lot of fabric along the base of the helmet, The best thing in my opinion is they have given you a kind of rubberized finish all along the bottom of the helmet which is not only going to keep the helmet cleaner when you set it down its also going to keep nicer for a longer period of time . So if you set your helmet down on the sidewalk or at a rest stop, you can expect the helmet to last a bit longer. Speaking of the cheek pads it brought over the emergency quick release cheek pad system, you can see these red tabs here simply grab a hold of that and pull down and you'll be removing the cheek pads just like that . There's quite a bit of engineering that went into that these little snaps work they actually have ramps built into them to actually release them as you pull down in that direction . The purpose of them though is not just so you can simply and quickly release and pull your cheek pads out , it actually has a notice to emergency personnel here on the side so if they suspect neck injury's or maybe your unconscious after an accident they can remove the cheek pads very easily while your still wearing the helmet and that opens the base of the opening quite a bit more so they can easily slide the helmet off of your head without causing further neck injury's , this is definitely a very very welcome innovation that they have brought over from their race helmets. Also new for this helmet is the new ventilation system. You have a chin bar vent which is very similar to what the RF1100 did, but the new one is much more flush on the front of the helmet again reducing wind noise . The big difference is they have added a third vent at the top of the helmet which is a brow vent that's actually directing air into the air channels in the EPS liner .You still have two intake vents here at the top . If you take a look at the set up on the RF1100 you have 4 separate exhaust vents that you have to physically close individually, so that means while your riding you are reaching up on the top of your head and closing or opening all four vents separately. Its great for customizing air flow but takes a little bit more time to open and close , so if you get caught in the rain these are exposed and open on the top so water could find its way down onto your head. Now you still have 4 exhaust vents but they are hidden under this integrated spoiler and they are all operated with a single switch. Its a lot faster to open and close it . And I don't know about you guys but i typically have all my vents open or all my vents closed depending on the weather and how cold it is. I much prefer a simple system that just opens them all up , if its hot enough to have one vent open in my opinion its just about warm enough to have them all open. Maybe with the exception of the chin bar vent, which you can use to combat fog to give you air to put up onto the face shield. Speaking of a face shield you do have a pin lock ready shield included now and the pin lock insert comes in the box as well . So the RF1200 is definitely giving you a good system right in the box to combat fog . Another thing you will notice about the face shield that is all new is the reinforcements that they have added on the bottom and top , now the CWR 1 shield. They have done a couple of other things not only is it reinforced for a better seal but you have an extra layer of gasket material at the bottom and the top of the helmet as well again to give you a better seal against the elements and preventing wind noise and whistling you have an all new base plate system that is adjustable you can see there's a little adjustment screw right here it has several positions you turn them its actually like a ___ and its going to pull the base plate just slightly forward or backward so that you can customize how tight of a seal your getting against that gasket system on the shell itself . And that's going to give you a very good seal for unwanted wind noise and water from coming in on the inside. As for the finish of it i really like what they have done here a little attention to detail there , its got a nice kind of carbon fiber look to it to the plastic its not just a kind of generic black plastic . Removing the shield is as easy as ever , its a simple trigger and it goes right back on here quickly so swapping face shields is quick. Now speaking of the face shield they are supposed to be coming out with a transition face shield for this helmet which will be absolutely fantastic . It wont be cheap but it is supposed to darken when its exposed to UV , so its going to be one shield that you leave on the helmet all the time . Clear at night and darkens depending on the conditions during the day .

Strength of shield - Mark Ezra   MO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Easy to fit
Cons: Price

This shield has good optical properties and fits the Shoei RF-1200 well. I have performed laboratory impact testing of this shield equivalent to a rock hitting the shield at 60 MPH and the shield provided full protection to face and eyes. The shield did not break when hit during testing.

Shoei CWR-1 Shield - SusanDS   IN Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Protection and better visibility when riding in bright sunlight
Cons: Still have to carry 2 shields to have a clear shield and to have a sunglass shield.

This was bought as a gift to go with the Schoe RF-1200 helmet bought in December 2013. Between us, this is our 4th Schoei helmet, so the shield is as was expected from our prior experience. I was actually trying to find just the pinlock lens in gray tinting, to eliminate having to carry a 2nd shield when we travel. But, this will work well until those lenses are available. We are anxiously waiting to see if Schoei will actually release a transition shield, thus eliminating any tinted lenses.

Awesome - Larry G.   OR Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: No Fogging up, No Fogging up, Easy to put together
Cons: None

The pinlock is the only way to go. I live in oregon it rains alot and in the morning its cold, that all equates to a fogged up visor but not with this system.

Shoei helmet liner parts - Tom V V   WA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Super easy to change. Makes it a near-new helmet.
Cons: Could have have gotten a new, less expensive helmet for same cost.

Bought a once state of the art helmet with flaking foam and vinyl. These parts made it fit and ventilate better.

Tried one, now I'm hooked - Dutch1957   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Works like stated
Cons: IN the summer heat, after 18 months of use the liner seal became unbonded

THis set-up does indeed work in cold humid air conditions. It does take about 5 to 10 mins for the air barrier entrapped to become effective. Until that time, it does still fog abit.

Great Shield - Nocman2   GA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: The Chrome looks great, adds sun protection
Cons: COST

The chrome shield looks great on my black helmet. I've had on for a couple of rides now and it seems easy to clean. I haven't noticed any scratches, so I can't comment on that. It also fit like a glove..

RF1100 37mm cheek pads - Thicker pads to fit better   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Better fit than original pads and make the fit of helmet more secure
Cons: none

I bought these 37mm pads as back ups to my standard 35mm pads that were still in good shape. The fit for me is better now than the stock pads and I have noticed that the way they clip into the helmet holds them more securely. The old pads would come loose in the rear at my neck after a few times of putting on and taking off the helmet. At a close look I noticed that the pads, where they slide into the slot in the back, are made a little differently and hold in better.

Is what it is - Matt   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Great quality as expected
Cons: Should include a sleeve

I got the darker gray, which is a daylight only color. Using it when the sun setting is a bad idea as it is deceptively dark. Pops on and off easily. For the price though I would have liked to see it come with a cheap microfiber sleeve.

Shoei Quality - rpalick   MN Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Very Clear with Excellent Interchangability
Cons: None

If you are like me, the clear face shield may be good at night but in the Texas sun, you definitely are going to need a tinted or smoke colored face shield. The Dark Smoke shield from Shoei was easy to install based upon their easy interchange system. This helmet and system is top notch with minimal noise and gives you a good seal. If your considering an alternate face shield you won't go wrong with this. At 45.00 the price was acceptable as far as I am concerned.

Dark smoke shield - Ryan   CO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Everything
Cons: None

I bought the dark smoke as an extra shield to the RF1100 that comes with a clear shield. It works great, easy to attachremove, not too dark that you can't see at night but enough that you can ride into the sun and actually see where you're going. I've cleaned bugs off by running it under water and wiping it off with a no-scratch cloth.

Shoei X-11 Replacement Helmet Liner, Cheek Pads, Chin Strap - Stangar   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: High quality, original Shoei equipment, fairly priced, EASY install
Cons: None

New helmets are expensive and my Shoei X-11 was well taken care of but it did need a refresh of the interior after a few years. I purchased the Shoei X-11 Helmet Replacement Liner, Cheek Pads and Chin Straps for my particular size helmet. The replacements were original Shoei brand size and high quality. The install was amazingly easy. Extremely pleased with the complete process from purchase to installation. Competition Accessories and Shoei rocks

RF-1000 Cheek Pad Set - Olsonjr   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Cuts wind noise, snugs up helmet
Cons: None

I am sensitive to excessive noise so I replace my pads every couple of years, as soon as I notice the helmet getting a little louder. Most of the helmet noise I encounter is turbulence at the base of the helmet. New pads provide a better seal to cheek.

Worth the - Stacy G   IL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Perfect tint Easy to Install
Cons: Price

This shield works exactly as advertised. It is easy to install and have had no issue openingclosing it. The tint is the perfect amount for a sunny day but not too much for night either. I don't like carrying extra shields with me when I ride so this one works well no matter the time of the day. At night, it can be a little dark on rural roads so I simply angle my helmet up a little bit which allows me to see thru the less tinted area of the shield. Only drawback is the price for this shield. This is the price I expect to pay for a shield with reflective coatings. It works and I would recommend to others. Guess that's all that really matters.

Helmet like new - Shoei x11 liners   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Better quality than original, makes helmet feel like new.
Cons: Somewhat pricey, but better than 600 for new helmet

Really love my x11. But original liners disintegrated and helmet loosened up after 20 minutes, cheek pads had no support. Strap covers looked disgusting. Anyway with new pads and liner I figure I got a few more years out my favorite discontinued helmet.

X-12 Helmet & Shields - Pakleo   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Helmet Fit and quality. Lenses Easily exchanged. Virtually no distortion. Quality construction.
Cons: Helmet Difficult, if not impossible, to fit comm set. Lenses None.

I have the Shoei X-12 Glory 2 Size XL with clear and Spectra Silver lenses. I recommend this helmet as the very best for all applications, except when you need a comm set. I went to a communications specialist store and they were unable, even with on-the-phone support from Shoei, to fit a comm set that I could comfortably wear without cutting some liner foam, which of course they advised against. In all other aspects this helmet exceeds my very high expectations. Is it expensive Yes. My thought, If you have a 10 head you should wear a 10 helmet. The lenses will meet all your expectations. However, they are not adverised to be fog proff and they are not. And all the cheap fog sprays and wipes will not make them so. Solution I just ordered the fog proof shield and inserts from my favorite supplier, Competition Accessories. Shoei. You meet the most intelligent people wearing the brand.

I am astounded by how fog proof these Pinlocks are. I live in Massachusetts and ride right into mid December every year. I used to spend all kinds of time with Fog-X and all that nonsense trying to keep the shield clear.

The Pinlock has since solved all my problems. The only drawback is it does cut in on peripheral vision a tiny amount. Doesn't bother me personally, but it's there.

My Nolan N102 came with a Pinlock lense included, but the shield is so difficult to take off that I didn't bother with it. When I had trouble with fogging in cold weather, I decided tp give it a try. It workd so good I ordered one for my Shoei RF1000. I would like to be able to get a high definition shield with pins as it would look better than amber lens on clear.

Simply Amazing!
What a great product. I thought the RF-1000 was great with very little fogging, but as the weather got colder I noticed more fogging and when I added a face mask I had lots of fogging problems. The pinlock antifog set-up is truly no-fog. My only complaint is the shield only comes in clear....I think a smoke shield I could put a clear lens in would look a lot better than buying a smoke lens as pictured.

Shoei CX-1V shield for Multitec - Goatboy   NY Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Good fit, and easy to fit and remove.
Cons: Expensive. Need to specify Pinlock pins

I ordered a spare face shield for my new Multitec, so that I'd have a clear one for night and a smoked one for sunny days. When ordering, make sure you order the correct type I missed that if you want to use Pinlock anti-fog inserts, you must specify a Pinlock-compatible shield. Neither the OEM shield nor the spare had the pins, so I can't use Pinlock inserts with these shields.
