Hey this is Reuben with compettition accessories. Today we are going to be taking a detailed look at the shoei qwest. This is shoei touring helmet. This helmet has come out pretty recently which has somewhat replaced the shoei tzr which i have one of those up here to show you. Kind of in that same price point. But it has a lil bit more features geared towards touring. It has better ventaliation and a different shell shape. So if you take a look at the shoei qwest and the TZR side by side, you can tell what the differeneces are between the two of them there. Definitely more of an upright riding position helmet, it has a wider eye port to have better visibility out of the helmet. But we are going to kind of dig into this helmet here, and I will show you what it is all about. So taking a look at the ventalation features of this helmet, you have a nice large chin bar vent which is going to allow air to come in and keep your faceshield from fogging. A little bit of air through your face. The top air scoop is nice and large and you will notice it sits up nice and tall on the helmet. For those guys who sit up tall on those big touring bikes and have a lot of wind protection on your bike, this helmet will have a vent that sits up high enough on the helmet to block the wind. This helmet has two closable rear vents that are gonna draw warm air right out of the helmet. Talking about the shell, this helmet uses shoei AIm plus shell which stands for advanced integrated matrix plus multi fiber which is kind of a mouth full there. Carbon kevlar fiberglass composite and the helmet is snell 2010 and DOT approved. This helmet is quiet and is its claim to fame. it is 1.25 decibels quiter than the RF-1100 and that is largely impart to the vents. It has a lil bit less ventalation features, but for you guys that are riding longer distances, you are on the road all day long, you need your helmet to be as quiet as possible. Taking a look at the face shield on this helmet, this is the same faceshield that is used on their shoei qwest, rf-1100, and X12. So if you are moving between helmets in the shoei lineup, you can still use the same shields. There is a pinlock system available for this so if you live in an aread where fogging or is more humid, you can get a shield with pinlock inserts to help keep the shield fog free. I have used one of their products before and it works really well, so if fogging is an issue, I would encourage you to check them out as well. The way the shield mechanism works, it is very nice and easy. On the side, the first thing that I will show you is the face shield locking mechanism. You tilt this little lever towards the back and it will lock the shield down in place and it can't fly open on you incase you are running at high speeds on your sport touring bike. You can also push the lever mechanism forward and it will give you a very small opening in the front of the helmet to allow for a lil bit more air to come in. so again if you are running into issues with fog or if its really hot you can crack the faceshield to get a little bit more air flow. As you can see there are several different detints that allow you to crack the faceshield even further allowing more air flow to come inside of the helmet. There are ratchets points all the way up and down, so you have a lot of adjustability moving the faceshield up and down. To remove the shield, there are basically two shields on each side and you push that forward. If you get in nice and tight, you can see that lever there, that is basically allows you to remove the faceshield off. If you look at the top of the shield, it actually has a very large lip and it is kind of hard to see on camera. but it has a lip on top of the helmet and what that is going to allow it to do is give you a nice seal along the top of the gap. So if you are riding in the rain, you are not going to have water dripping down on the inside of your shield. So that is definitely a huge welcome feature for the touring rider. Let me go ahead and reinstall this shield here, you basically just line the pins up and it just clicks right on into place. Now we are going to take a look at the inside of this helmet. Okay so taking a look at the interior of the shoei qwest. Like I said at the beginning of the video, it has a wider opening so its going to be a lot easeier to get your head in and out. Now this helmet is a round oval fit so if you have a little bit fuller of a head, this helmet is probably going to work really well for you. The only thing removable about this helmet is the cheek pads, so I will go ahead and pop one of those out here for you. There are basically three snaps and then it comes right out and you can obviously take them out and wash them. and if you need to you can replace them or go up or down in size if necessary. They are a nice layered cheek pad, what they do is put down several layers of foam on the inside to give you a nice contoured shape. They feel really comfortable against your skin as well. One thing you will see behind this cheek pad is the recess which is perfect for installing a communication system. As I said earlier, this helmet has a nice chin bar space to install the microphone in space. As far as the chin curtain goes, it does come with this really small chin curtain here. If you need a larger one, there is one available as well. So that pretty much covers all the features of the shoei qwest helmet, and this helmet is great for long distance touring riding. Solids are going to start at just over 300 dollars and the graphic at just over 400 dollars. Another neat feature is that shoei does come with a five year warranty policy from the date of purchase or seven year from the date of manufactre. Shoei has a great inspection policy that if you drop your helmet or have a crash with it, you can send it back to shoei and they will inspect the helmet for free. They will even cover the cost of return freight back to you.
Hey this is Reuben with Competition Accessories today were taking a look at the Shoei RF1100 this is the replacement for the RF1000. Ive got the RF1000 up here to show you the differences between the two this is the old __ Graphic and I have RF 1100's up here i have matte black this is called the enigma this is the conquer obviously there's other colors and options as well . First of all i wanted to show you the differences between the two helmets between the old RF1000 which is one of Shoeis best selling helmets and the new RF1100. The RF1000 has been a great helmet for a lot of riders for a lot of years and with the RF1100 it takes it one step further. You have a whole other level of ventilation and other features as well if you take a look at them side by side you can take a look and see how much bigger the eye port is its the new shield its the CW1 shield its the same shield they use on the X12 so that's their high end racing helmet . You've got a lot wider of an eye port a lot better peripheral vision and you also have more top to bottom space you'll be able to see better when your down in that tucked position if your riding on the track or really spirited riding your gonna have a lot more vision out of the helmet . The venting is also a lot more aggressive on the RF1100. You have a larger chin bar vent you have very similar vents on the top here, and if you look at the back you have four close able vents and then there is two hidden exhaust vents right behind the neck at the base of the helmet where as the RF1000 only had the exhaust vents under the spoiler as well as the under vents here as well. The shell shape is also significantly improved if you look at the 1000 compared to the 1100 , the 1000 has a sort of round shape helmet with a bolt on plastic spoiler into the actual shell of the helmet and this helmet has Shoeis AIM plus shell which is their advanced integrated matrix plus multi fiber shell material which is basically a composite of carbon fiber, Kevlar and fiber glass and its SNELL 2010 approved obviously as well . So I'm going to move the RF 1000 out of the way I'm going to kind of break it down in the RF1100 take a look at all the features in detail here. So looking at the vents in detail here on the RF1100 they are just a lot more aggressive in their function and their position the chin bar vent is like i said a little bit bigger then the RF1000 its going to direct air up onto the face shield to help reduce fogging. Up at the top you have two vents that are going to draw air down in around the rail and actually channel through the EPS , when we get into the interior of this helmet were going to kind of show you where the air goes and on the back of this helmet you've got four exhaust vents and you can open and close these in any combination you want really customize the helmet air flow your getting through your helmet . The exterior vents here are going to as air rolls over the back of the helmet , the front vents are going to have cool air pushed in and the warm air inside of the helmet is going to come right out the back its going to be drawn out by the vacuum created behind your head there's also two hidden vents at the base of the neck roll here you can feel them with your fingers. Basically its the same type of effect warm air is going to be drawn out from underneath the bottom of the helmet as well . Like i said earlier this is the same face shield used on the X12 its the CW1 its a wider eye port its also got several different detentes you could crack it open and it has a ratcheting mechanism all the way up and down. On the side here you have a locking mechanism if you tilt that lever back that shield is locked down so if your on the track and you do head checks it will lock down so it doesn't come open thats there for you, and if you push it forward slightly and it cracks the shield slightly so you can get just a little bit of air flow to come in from the bottom if you need the shield from defogging there . To remove the shield you actually open it all the way and its got the quick release self adjusting base plate before i take it off if you look at the ratcheting mechanism here when i close the shield all the way this spring actually pulls the shield back against the helmet and it will have a nice tight seal all the way around that gasket , its going to result in a quieter helmet and its also going to provide you with a better seal against the elements if your riding in the rain. Ill show you a feature here when i take the shield off , you just push that trigger forward the shield comes off its very easy to use. Another thing i don't know if you'll be able to see it on here on the camera here, but there's a lip around the top of the CW-1 shield and what that does is it seals around the top of this gasket . So if you've ever had a helmet where if your riding in the rain you've got water dripping down on the inside of your shield very frustrating , you've got a lip now which is going to give you a really nice seal around the top of the helmet to prevent that from happening . This shield is also available with the pin lock insert so you can get one with pin lock posts you can buy pin lock inserts basically what that does is gives you a duel layered shield you can install the insert and that's going to prevent any fogging from happening they work really really well so if your in an area that has high humidity that's a really great option as well . To reinstall the shield just line up these pins give it a little push there and it snaps right back into place just like so. So now were going to go ahead and move to the inside of this helmet and show you those features. On the interior of this helmet one thing that has significantly improved over the RF1000 now the interior is fully removable that's not something you had with the RF1000 that's a very welcomed feature especially if your running in a hot environment or you do a lot of track days of your sweating a lot you can actually take the entire liner out and replace it you can wash it so that's definitely a welcomed feature. I'm going go ahead and pull one of the cheek pads out here which is basically three snaps and this plastic piece inserts between the shell and the liner , these cheek pads are layered its actually multiple layers of foam you have a nice contour against your skin. Its a nice soft fabric as well . If you take a close look here there's actually recesses here as well for speakers if you use a communication system or if you install speakers for music or GPS or anything like that , you've got a space already cut out of the shell so that you have a spot to put those. Go ahead and remove the rest of the interior here the cheek pads come right out this is a brand new one that we just pulled out of the box . The center pad of this helmet is actually what they call their 3D center pad which is again going to contour the shape of your head its also has raised portions and opening so that ventilation that's coming up through the top of the helmet you can actually see there's holes here and its going to channel the air and it can get to your skin. If i flip the helmet up here you can actually see on the inside of this helmet these channels these groves are designed not only to prevent your head from being hurt in an impact which is what the actual liner does but holes here and these are really going to channel all that air all over your head so your not going to have just one or two spots where you have good ventilation your going to have good ventilation all throughout your head with this helmet. The Shoei RF1100 starts $377 for solids and goes up to $472 for graphics it weighs in at 3 and a half pounds which is actually slightly lighter then the X12 which is their high end race helmet . One thing that's really neat about Shoei helmets is that they do have a 5 year warranty from the date of purchase and they also give you 7 years from the date of manufacture and they also have a Shoei inspection program which is free of charge, so if you drop your helmet and are not sure if its damaged or usable you can just send it off to Shoei they will inspect it for free and they will let you know if its good to go or not. The RF1000 was a great helmet for years from Shoei the 1100 just takes it one step further its a great helmet. Hey guys this is Reuben with Competition Accessories today I'm talking about the Shoei X-twelve this is new for 2010 top of the line flag ship helmet. Shoei said its born from racing bred on the race track this obviously replaces the X11, i have an X11 in anthracite and i have the new X12 just to give you a quick comparison between the two. If i turn them side by side here ,head to head if you will, you will see the shape the over all aggressiveness again built for the race track built for that real aggressive tucked position. The X11 was a fantastic helmet very very popular a lot of the top racers wore it for a long time, now they've moved on to the X12. What they've done with the exterior of the helmet is basically two things they have streamed lined it significantly if you look at the way the spoiler integrates into the back of the X12 verses the X11 you can see its just a cleaner shell shape and what that's going to give you is even better manors at high speeds its going to have less buffeting be smooth and stable . Its also probably going to be quieter as far as there's a little bit less exterior going on the X12 your going to have just cleaner flow of air over the top another thing that they have significantly upgraded from the X11 to X12 is the venting and if you look at the X 12 here there are actually five intake vents and ten exhaust vents a few are hidden behind the arrowhead spoiler and in the base of the neck roll even on the exterior you can see there's a large vent on the rear where the X11 does not have exhaust vents on the sides they've enlarged the other vents that are there so your just going to have a lot more air flow in the X12 vs the X12 which is already really an aggressively vented helmet they've just taken it one step further with the X12. Another thing you'll see when you take a look at these head on is the shield the eye port, has been changed so now you are on the CW1 shield its going to be taller and wider so you have a lot better view of the track ahead , more peripheral vision better top to bottom vision .That really helps when your on a really tight tuck you can still get your eyes up and see above the brow here. Other helmets come down too low for that not built for that aggressive riding position . The X 12 again built for the race track. I'm going to go ahead and move the X11 out of the way here and well get into the features of the X12. First thing i wanna talk about is the shell, this is Shoeis AIM plus shell its called the Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus Multi fiber Shell. Basically its a mix between carbon fiber , Kevlar and fiber glass . They use elastic fibers in there to basically spread and absorb impact as much as possible. So if you have a sharp impact point its going to spread it over the largest area possible. On the interior of the helmet we have the EPS liner and it does its job absorbing all of that energy and preventing it from transferring into your head. The venting on this helmet is extremely aggressive as i said you have a chin bar vent here, open and close that going to direct air up onto the face shield help reduce fogging . You have a brow vent its going to bring air into your forehead and bring it around the sides . You have a top scoop you'll notice a lot of these vents are forward on the helmet that's because when your riding in this thing your going to be in this position and that air is going to be ramming straight on to that vent and giving you plenty of air flow. You have some exhaust vents here and the way these work is as air flows over the top shell its going to create a vacuum behind this little lip here and that's going to draw warm air out of the helmet. Same thing on the back you have a closeable rear vent airs going to be drawn out the back , underneath the spoiler here you'll see the gap , that gap is going to have some holes threw the shell that are going to draw warm air out your going to have some on the sides here mini vents and then again at the base of the neck roll there are some small vents that come out from the inside as well which is going to give you even more ventilation. The arrowed spoiler on this is basically this rear portion and its built into the helmet and what that does like i said earlier reduces buffeting keeps your head very stable . This helmet is very well mannered if you need to do head checks it doesn't do anything weird doesn't pull doesn't shake shimmy i mean this thing again is built for the race track they know what they are talking about when they do high speed runs. When you get into the face shield here its again the CW1 shield its available in a multitude of tints colors being a race helmet its going to be available with tear off posts , it also come pin lock ready if you want to instal a pin-lock system you could purchase a pin lock ready shield which is a separate shield you'd have to purchase and that's going to have some pins inside that you can insert the pin lock system . Basically what that does it gives you a duel layered shield which is going to reduce fogging and it instead of the warm air from your breath hitting the shield directly its that pin lock that is insulated because its two layers , it works really really well Ive ridden with them quite a bit actually . As far as the shield mechanism goes this is what Shoei calls their quick release self adjusting base plate and if you get it nice and tight on this when i open it you can actually see these little springs inside compress and when it closes it pulls the shield back and in and what that does is it gives it a really good and tight seal around the entire gasket all the way around the face shield and that give you just a really nice tight fit. It prevents any outside air or water from getting in the helmet it also give you a little bit quieter of a ride. There is another feature here its the helmet and shield lock so if you tilt this back its actually going to lock the shield down you physically can not open , a lot of guys will run that at the track in the locked position so when your doing 150 plus and your doing a head check your shield doesn't come open on you. You can also push this forward and that's going to very slightly separate that gasket and shield to get a tiny bit more air into the shield which is again going to help with any fogging issues if your running into that or if its just a hot out and you just want a little bit extra air flow you can just crack that forward . Of coarse there's also a detente if you want to open it a little bit further you can open it to the first detente and there's also a ratcheting mechanism all the way up and down. To take this shield off is very simple just basically two triggers on both sides push forward on that and it pops right out very easy to do , it just comes right off. Another thing i want you to see right on the shield is it actually has a built in lip in the top edge, you don't see this very often at all and what that does when you close the shield it is going to create a seal right along the top of that gasket so if you are riding in the rain your not going to have water or other air or anything coming in from the top of the shield so that's a really great feature as well. To reinstall the shield just line up the pins give it a press its going to click right into place so these things are really easy to swap in and out . Next were going into the interior of this helmet which are where the guts are where it does a lot of the protecting. The interior of the X12 is again built for the racer who's on the track pushing it hard and sweating a lot , they use a max dry system which is a moisture locking liner its going to pull sweat away from your face its going to allow a lot of that ventilation that i showed you on the outside of the helmet actually reach your skin and reach your head they call it their 3D liner Ill tell you why when i pull it out here before i do you'll probably notice there are two bright red tabs on either side of the cheek pads . What those are Shoeis emergency quick release system and again this is for the race track it also would really benefit you on the street too if you have an accident basically its for emergency personnel to quickly and easily pull your cheek pads out which is going to allow them to lift your helmet off with minimal impact to your head and neck , so they would be able to slide your helmet off a lot easier with the cheek pads out. Basically what you do is just grab the tab and they would just pull it out and you see it has a little loop hole for your finger and you can just rip the cheek pad right out , do the other side here and you can just see how much bigger that opening is now and you could imagine how much easier they would have they would have a much easier time getting your helmet off of your head with that much extra room . You can remove the rest of the liner its just two snaps at the back and then plastic in the front and this is the 3D max liner , what i want you to see on this liner is all these holes and openings here are going to provide you with a lot of ventilation all that ventilation is coming from the inside of the helmet from the outside in, that cool air is going to come in reach your skin and the warm air is just going to be drawn out the back and its designed to work perfectly in conjunction with all the venting that's on the outside of the helmet .If you look down on the inside of this helmet you can see some of the channeling in the actual EPS liner. What they use is actually a duel layer EPS liner and i actually have one to show you right over here this is actually whats on the inside the guts of whats actually X12 here . Its a duel layer EPS liner there's a lot of research going into one of these basically its designed to absorb as much impact as possible it crushes on impact so that your brain doesn't slam up inside of your skull its going to absorb as much impact as possible. They use different density's of foam throughout the liner to progressively absorb the impact, do if you have a minor hit its going to still have that give that you need , If you have a major hit its going to have that slight give and then you resist more and more as the impact happens. There's also separate pieces Ive kind of taped it together here so you can see what it looks like put together on the inside of the helmet. Before i pull it apart i want you to notice how many holes there are on the outside vents that are reaching threw this liner. Here , at the top , at the top here and the rear , at the back of the sides i mean this thing is built again for very very good ventilation. If i kind of pull it apart here you'll see they have separate pieces for the sides of the helmet this is actually what goes on behind the base plate so where the shield mechanism is . You'll need more protection in that area you'll notice it actually doesn't compromise the thickness of the liner even with this piece in place its plenty thick in that area . The chin guard is actually 2 pieces so you can see the entire chin bar is lined with this EPS foam but a lot of the other helmet manufactures cant say that. Their chin bar has a but of rubberized material but a little bit of foam in the front but this is the full EPS liner that goes all the way across the chin bar you have complete coverage on this helmet , and then on the bottom of the helmet or on the inside rather you can see these channels that run threw the middle I'm going to see if i can get my tape off of here and ill pull out this inside piece and this is what i was telling you about earlier this is the duel layer feature of the liner and basically this is going to you can see there's air channels that run on the inside of the shell and again this is just to allow cool air to come in and all the hot air to escape the very bottom of the interior there's more air holes for the air to come out. The X 12 has Shoeis performance fit and basically its an intermediate oval and it is a little bit tighter if your coming from an RF1100 or a Qwest you'll notice that the helmet is just a little bit more snug not enough to go up a size or anything like that because you actually want the helmet to be snug. Again this helmet is bread from the race track born from racing so the guys you see out there Moto GP and they want their helmets tight as possible because when your pushing those upper triple digit speeds you don't want that helmet moving around at all , and in a crashing scenario you need that foam to be as close to your head as possible so your head doesn't travel to hit the foam the foams already there to absorb the impact in that kind of situation. So that was our in depth look at the X12 from Shoei .

This review is for Shoei RF-1100 Brilliant Yellow - Hi-Vis Yellow Helmets
Great Helmet - pjames   NJ Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Great fit, light, quiet and comfortable
    Cons: Color not hi-vis

The helmet is great. Fits really well and was comfortable straight out of the box. Used it on a 1500 mile trip straight away with no issues. Has good airflow. I take a large, and my previous helmet was a Scorpion. The size is similar, but the quality of this helmet is much better.Only issue would be the description of the color as Hi-Vis. The color is brilliant yellow, which is highly visible, but is not the actual color Hi-vis that you would find on other motorcycle equipment.

Shoei Pinlock Anti-Fog Shields - Al in Colorado Springs   CO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: No Fog
    Cons: none

I happen to be an all weather rider. These Pinlock Anti-Fog Shields work excellent. In below 10 deg. or rainy weather they work great

Tried one, now I'm hooked - Dutch1957   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Works like stated
Cons: IN the summer heat, after 18 months of use the liner seal became unbonded

THis set-up does indeed work in cold humid air conditions. It does take about 5 to 10 mins for the air barrier entrapped to become effective. Until that time, it does still fog abit.

    This review is for Shoei Helmet Face Shields - X-12 - X-Twelve - RF-1100 - Qwest - CW-1
Great Shield - Nocman2   GA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: The Chrome looks great, adds sun protection
    Cons: COST

The chrome shield looks great on my black helmet. I've had on for a couple of rides now and it seems easy to clean. I haven't noticed any scratches, so I can't comment on that. It also fit like a glove..

Good Helmet, great price - OH-FZ1Rider   OH Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Comfort, visor, quality construction, protection
Cons: Large and bulky, vents whistle at speed

I bought this helmet at a fantastic price from CompAcc on close out. I'm not in love with the graphics, but it matches my motorcycle and couldn't pass on getting Shoei quality at half the price. The helmet is very comfortable and the visor system is much easier to use than my Arai. The fit was perfect. I usually wear an XL and it fit perfectly. My only very small complaints are that the shell size is larger than my Quantum 2, making it feel bulky and there is a whistle from the vents at highway speeds.

ShoeiQuality - Radicle   OR Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Very high quality product. Aerodynamic. Quiet. Comfortable.
Cons: Cheek pads are to tight.

I have always been a bargain helmet buyer. Not the super el cheapo's but helmets in the 100-200 range. I have been wearing a Bell Revolver since they came out. About 3 years I guess. I always thought it was comfortable but a bit heavy and noisy, even with a chin curtain. So I get the 1100 in the mail. When I lifted it up I wasn't overly thrilled as it seemed not that much lighter than the heavy Bell. I put it on and was put off by the overly thick cheek pads. On the first ride I fell in love with it. Even though it doesn't seem that light it cuts the air very well. Some guys have complained about noise but I find this helmet extremely quiet. Yes it whistles a bit with all the vents open and the vents work very good by the way. After a couple hundred mile ride I found that my neck was no where near as tired as riding with the helmets I have had in the past. The crown padding fits perfect and has no hot spots. I am getting used to the cheek pads but may end up buying some thinner ones anyhow. Overall, I now see the difference in quality between a higher end helmet and the mid range products. I don't see why this conqueror didn't sell that well. It looks much better in person than the pic and with my tinted visor it is down right attractive. I opted for the silver and black. If you are on the fence about a purchase, go for it. If your coming from a mid range helmet you will be exceedingly pleased. Good job Comp. Acc. the product showed up relatively quick and in excellent shape. You guys are my new favorite gear supplier.

I love Shoei helmets-always the greatest protection for your buck You cant put a price on your head so to speak. I love the new design-has great ventilation and easy to use removable shield. Im constantly change my shield for conditions. Yellow for night and rain-smoke for sunny days and clear on overcast days. The Padding inside is very comfortable and replaceable. Have owned Rf models for last 12-13 years and have never been disappointed or had a problem. I would buy another and recommend it to a friend.

Another Excellent Shoei Helmet - D. Baker   WA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Shoei Quality.
Cons: More vents than I need.

When it comes to helmets, I buy Shoei. I learned a long time ago I have a Shoei head, and I know when I buy a XL it will fit me perfectly. This is my fifth Shoei and each has been a little better than the last. They are comfortable with no hot spots after a few hours of wear. Wind noise is minimal. As advertised, I did notice on the RF-1100 there is more visability than I have with my RF-1000. Graphics are sharp, and the finish is excellent. Back when I lived in Texas I probably would have appreciated the multitude of vents on the '1100, but now that I'm in a cooler climate I could do with a few less. That's not a complaint, just an observation. The surplus of vents do not detract from the helmet in any way, and would certainly be a plus for some riders. For those who find the fit around the jaw line too tight or too loose, Comp Acc sells pads in a variety of thicknesses that will allow a custom fit. Speaking of which, as usual Comp Acc was great to work with. Great pricing, fast shipping. It gets no better.

Pros: Great fit. Quiet. Great price form Comp Acc
    Cons: None for me

It all starts with the fit. No one wants to wear a helmet that does not fit. Different helmets fit better that others depending on the wearers head. The Shoei line of helmets fit me perfectly. Comfortable and secure. Plenty of peripheral vision and quiet too. Noise fatigue is something to consider when on an extended ride. This helmet also has very little lift when worn riding a bike with no fairing. I got the dark smoke shield too. The shield has no distortion and changing them is quick and easy. I buy the optical white and the finish is flawless. Shoei delivers a top of the line product at a reasonable price. You could spend a lot more money for a DOT Snell rated helmet. My wife and I have Nolan's we wear when riding together for Bluetooth communication feature. When I ride alone, I always reach for the Shoei.

Shoei RF-1100 and Qwest Breath Guard and Chin Curtain Replacement Parts - Johnny from Miami, Florida   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Excellent Quality and Very Effective. Much cheaper at Competition Accessories.
Cons: Not better quality than HJC or Scorpion - at least not initially. Very pricey if you were to purchase at a bike shop.

After years of using Scorpion and HJC I purchased a Shoei RF-1100. It was a store demo that did not have a breath guard or chin curtain. I do a lot of highway riding on a bike with no wind shield. At 70 mph the Shoei is dramatically much more aerodynamic and comfortable at highway speeds than either of the aforementioned. But Shoei is notoriously infamous for fogging and booming and my RF-1100 was true to its reputation. I ordered the Qwest breath guard and chin curtain which fits many other Shoei models and those problems were immediately eliminated when I installed them. The only disappointment was that neither seemed to be much better quality than what I had in my Scorpion and HJC but then again the curtain on HJC is sagging like a bad paint job and the breath guard on the Scorpion wont stay on anymore and I only used those helmets for a couple of years each. But like everything else with Shoei, the difference in quality is most evident over time under actual riding conditions.

RF1100 37mm cheek pads - Thicker pads to fit better   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Better fit than original pads and make the fit of helmet more secure
    Cons: none

I bought these 37mm pads as back ups to my standard 35mm pads that were still in good shape. The fit for me is better now than the stock pads and I have noticed that the way they clip into the helmet holds them more securely. The old pads would come loose in the rear at my neck after a few times of putting on and taking off the helmet. At a close look I noticed that the pads, where they slide into the slot in the back, are made a little differently and hold in better.

I bought this helmet to replace my HJC full face helmet before running a SaddleSore 1,000 endurance ride on October 5, 2013. I tried out several sizes of the helmet until I was sure I have the best, off the shelf fit. The day of the ride the temps were in the 40s with occasional rain and lots of wind. I road 1,100 miles in 20 hours without any helmet problems. This helmet felt comfortable and dampened the wind and road sounds while allowing a comfortable flow of air. I would recommend this helmet. Determine the proper size then shop around for the best price. They are costly but well worth the money spent.

If you are like me, the clear face shield may be good at night but in the Texas sun, you definitely are going to need a tinted or smoke colored face shield. The Dark Smoke shield from Shoei was easy to install based upon their easy interchange system. This helmet and system is top notch with minimal noise and gives you a good seal. If your considering an alternate face shield you won't go wrong with this. At 45.00 the price was acceptable as far as I am concerned.

This shield works exactly as advertised. It is easy to install and have had no issue openingclosing it. The tint is the perfect amount for a sunny day but not too much for night either. I don't like carrying extra shields with me when I ride so this one works well no matter the time of the day. At night, it can be a little dark on rural roads so I simply angle my helmet up a little bit which allows me to see thru the less tinted area of the shield. Only drawback is the price for this shield. This is the price I expect to pay for a shield with reflective coatings. It works and I would recommend to others. Guess that's all that really matters.

    Cons: [None]

I put over 100k miles on my RF-1000 over the last 7-8 years, so it was time for a new helmet. I loved my Shoei, so the RF-1100 was the natural first choice. After trying on a couple of other helmets and reading a few other reviews, it was the only choice. Fit is slightly more snug, esp. in the nose area, but it is extremely close to the same as the RF-1000. The vents adjust as much as you'd ever want to, and bring lots of air through. It is VERY quiet, with no whistles, except at certain head angles with ONLY the chin vent 12 open. Quiet as could be with the chin vent fully open or closed. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but the visor exchange was easier on the 1000. This is a better set-up on the 1100 as far as the whole mechanism is concerned, but swapping is slightly more cumbersome. Extremely happy with my purchase

I know there are other good name brand helmets out there but for the last 25 years its been Shoei and Arai for me. I admit to holding on to them longer than you're supposed to but I also treat them like Faberge eggs. This new Shoei face shield really works as advertised to make the helmet noticeably quieter than my old Shoei and Arai. I ride both faired and unfaired bikes and it works on both. I have been wanting a Shoei for years and could not justify the price because I had a decent helmet. However, this was a great price at around 200 off so I couldn't resist. There should be a picture of the graphic on top because it is far more detailed than the sunburst pattern on the sides. I was surprised by the graphic and it's pretty awesome. The only complaint is that I'm personally not into sculls and there is a scull on the top. It isn't the center of the graphic and it's small so I'm ok with it.While riding, it has way less wind resistance than my previous helmets. It is easier to look side to side at highway speeds because of the reduced wind resistance and because the helmet is less bulky. It has made the riding experience even better. Bottom line great helmet, great price.

Great choice - Brad B   IN Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Excellent fit and Superior venting
    Cons: Cheek pads too tight

This is an excellent helmet. After trying on many different helmets at dealers to determine what fit my head best I spent many hours researching the various brands and styles online. I ride a Harley Roadking so I initially was going to get the Qwest since it is designed for cruisers but I really like the fully removable liner in the RF1100 and the better venting even if it is slightly louder. The chinpads were too tight so I ordered smaller ones to fit my face better, it is still a little tight but I believe it will break in nicely. This helmet is very comfortable and much quieter than most and the visor is easy to remove and change out. One of the best things about this helmet is that the vents really work well, when you open the vents you can really feel the air moving especially since it is winter and the wind is chilly. I can't wait till warmer weather to see how they keep my head cool.

Pros: Helmet Fit and quality. Lenses Easily exchanged. Virtually no distortion. Quality construction.
Cons: Helmet Difficult, if not impossible, to fit comm set. Lenses None.

I have the Shoei X-12 Glory 2 Size XL with clear and Spectra Silver lenses. I recommend this helmet as the very best for all applications, except when you need a comm set. I went to a communications specialist store and they were unable, even with on-the-phone support from Shoei, to fit a comm set that I could comfortably wear without cutting some liner foam, which of course they advised against. In all other aspects this helmet exceeds my very high expectations. Is it expensive Yes. My thought, If you have a 10 head you should wear a 10 helmet. The lenses will meet all your expectations. However, they are not adverised to be fog proff and they are not. And all the cheap fog sprays and wipes will not make them so. Solution I just ordered the fog proof shield and inserts from my favorite supplier, Competition Accessories. Shoei. You meet the most intelligent people wearing the brand.

Great Helmet - Juston H   MS
I have been threw a HJC modular, ICON torrent, and just know found a great helmet. It fits very snugg for a fast ride. I am a commuter that loves to drive out in the twisties, and I don't know if it was just me but the ICON seemed to push into my face around 110. The HJC was way to noisie and the flip lever broke in like a week. This Shoei you can bearly tell it is on, the vents work great for the hot days and close everything up and it will keep you warm on the cold ones. It doest pull to much when turning your head at high speeds and i can now use all of my perrifial vision without having to break my neck. Very nice helmet and I would recommend it to everyone I talk to. 08 CBR 1000rr

I ve worn shoei helmets since the RF 700, buying each new generation: with the new multitec thrown in for flip up convenience. The new RF 1100 is by far the best I ve owned so far. The removable interior and size adjustable cheek pads make custom fitting this helmet a snap. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade from an older shoei or switching to the shoei brand.

I debated between the RF-1100 and the new Arai RX-Q, but could not justify the huge price difference for the Arai, even though I liked the interior better. This Shoei is excellent in every respect: The comfort is great, venting is great, the removable lining is great, the peripheral vision is great, and I like that the aerodynamic shape is molded into the contours of the shell. There is no fragile plastic wing glued onto the ouside of the helmet. I was at the high end of the Shoei posted size chart "Medium" range, but had to size up the the large. Definately try on the helmet before buying. I selected the pearl grey color sight unseen, and I was delighted. The shiny metal-flake paint was flawless and the color is absolutely gorgeous. Perfect with a silver, grey or black bike--or . I am extremely pleased with my purchase and am glad that I did not spend the extra 250 for the Arai RX-Q

Quieter than my X-11 YES, but the quietest I've tested no, R2S2 still gots Shoei beat, but this maybe a cam issue with the locking mechanism so I've heard. Very comfortable and for the winter time if you don't want air rushing in this thing blocks it! Did a test run, yes in 20F weather, for all vents at 80mph and in-town, avg 45mph, and this helmet sucks in air big time. I am very impressed by the new Shoei RF-1100 so much so I may just retire my X-11.

Cons: Fit is more snug than previously owned Shoei's

Previously, I wore a size M helmet Shoei. Now, the M is too small. Other than that, the helmet has a great fit and good low-noise design so hearing isn't impaired. The many venting options means less fogging and more comfort.

Pros: Quiet and Comfortable, did I mention Quiet and Comfortable
Cons: Pension for Fogging, Fitment, Crushing In

The Shoei RF1100 is the quietest helmet I've ever worn, period. I just spent 24 hours over 3 days wearing it, and it's also considerably comfortable. The venting in the helmet means you'll never be without fresh air. The complaints I have about the RF1100 are few, as it was rainy during my tour, the helmet did fog rather easily, the built in shield lift button helped a little with that. The issues with the fitment have been a matter of breaking in the new pads on a properly fitting helmet. Now that the pads are mostly broken in, I am getting a bit of an air gap feeling in the helmet at highway speeds, which I'm hoping is just the sensation of air rushing through the helmet, and not an indicator that the helmet pads are overly worn in I wore a headsock for a big part of my ride.

Cons: Chin Strap is a little bulky, Rear vent difficult to open while riding

Overall this helmet is excellent. The big check pads keep down wind noise very well. I wear glasses and this helmet fits pretty well with my frames. The chin strap is a little bulky and does rub some what on my Aerostich. Not enough to prevent me from turning my head, but here and there I do feel a slight tug on the strap.

Pros: Great ventilation with easy access to the vents, lighter weight, good aerodynamics.
Cons: Because of the release mechanism, tinted shields are harder to install than clear ones. The tab at the rear base of the helmet gets caught on my riding jacket.

This is my second Shoei and fourth full-faced helmet overall. The RF-1100 is the most enjoyable helmet I have owned to date. The vents, especially the chin vent, move a lot of air to keep me cool. But, they also seal up nicely when I need a quiet ride. The weight is very manageable, and the aerodynamics eliminate a lot of unnecessary buffeting. The only two complaints are that the shield release mechanism makes switching back and forth between clear and tinted shields a little difficult, and that the tab at the rear base of the helmet gets caught on my riding jacket as I try to move my head from side to side.

Pros: Ventilation Solid construction, excellent fit.
Cons: Just as noisy as my modular soumy. D rings. Hard to get my glasses on.

Overall, I am very impressed with this lid What I was looking for was ventilation and that is what I got. When it is 70 degrees out and all ports closed my head is cold. Rather be a little cool than sweating... I can turn my head without feeling like it will twist off, actually the helmet feels like it is a part of me. The eye port is large and I can see everything I need to see to be safe. The helmet is a little tight putting it on, however, once it is on it feels great. It is true to size. I was at the top of XS and I ordered the XS and it fits great. I gave this lid a 4 because of 2 reasons 1 It shouldn't be as noisy as it is being a one piece, and 2 D rings.

Cons: Chin bar vent whistles when open.

Nice helmet Feels much lighter than my HJC CL15, also much more aerodynamic and noticeably less wind resistance and buffeting. Built in spoiler and aero shape works great Great fit and comfort. Only con is that I get a whistle sound above approx 40mph with the chin bar vent open. This happens at most normal headhelmet angles when riding my Kawasali Concours 1400. Whistle goes away when vent is closed or windshield is raised as the connie has an electric adjst windshield. Graphics are better looking than I anticipated, very cool

Pros: Quiet, fit, EZ visor change, quality build, good sheild seal and vent operation
Cons: Pinlock option not with helmet sold seperate

Coming from an Aria Signet to the RF-1100, I had high expectations for the price-point quality on the Shoei. After using for 2 months, I believe the retail cost of the helmet is actually fair for the build qualuty, ease of operation, and ergonomics offered. Very clever visor removal easy with a gloved hand and extremely sturdy seal at 100 speeds. I have no complaints except pinlock was stated as included its actually a seperate purchase, as the helmet ships with a clear 'standard' shield

My first ride with this was amazing. The field of vision is HUGE and wind and engine noise was dramatically less than my mid-range HJC lid. Airflow is great. Fit and finish are top notch. If this helmet doesn't work great for you, it is your freakishly shaped melon, not this lid.

The only issue was that the face shield was a little loose which caused a whistle at 40 mph. Take the shield off, loosen the two plate screws, pull the plate all the back, and tighten. Problem solved.

And the Competition Accessories price for this is SICK! Brick and mortar this helmet goes for 460. Other online stores it goes for 399. At 309, I was tempted to buy two and throw one in the back of the closet as a back-up.

Bought to make my primary helmet with a chatterbox set up, but because of let downs in this product. Were to start,
    Cons:
The wind shield is flimsy, no biggy except that the seal on the helmet, especially the top side, doesn't seal all that great so there is wind whistle from that area. Even with the front intake open there is still fogging issues. And no my breath is not on dragon status, don't have issue with other helmet anti fog wind shields
    Pros:
Air flow on top side is pretty good. Padding is comfortable but lacks some guess for the the design it was made for and that is for intercom set up and ventilation. Comes with a free wide mess chin guard. Has a wind shield lock that I think should have been a positive wind shield sealing lock. Great Price from CompAcc

I can't call it, this will be my spare helmet which sucks because I had high hope for it since it is Shoei.

I have been riding for 40 years and have owned to many helmets to count. This one is very noisy and the shield system is flimsy and overpriced. I bought 3 different shields 2 shoei and 1 aftermarket and all leak and blow air in my eyes no matter how the vents are set. The helmet is so noisy that on my last long ride I ended up stopping for earplugs. Forget listening to music at highway speed. Very disappointed 0
