By far the best riding apparel purchase I have ever made. I ride almost every day and this is now my jacket of choice. Comfortable in all temps that I have been in so far 30-80 deg and sizing is spot on. Liner quality is not up to par with the coat but that is not a real issue as it can be removed and if its cold enough there's room for a heated liner. So far I would say it does compare in quality and fit to coats that cost twice as much I have them. Distressed / vintage look is cool and have received many compliments on the style. Like it so much I thought about ordering a smooth leather one to have as a backup when/if this one wears out. 6'1" and 220lbs ordered a size 50. I would note that if you have a beer gut this may not be your coat as it has a nice tailored fit.
Brilliant, nice quality & great fit. I'm 5' 9" 185lbs 44" chest so sometimes buy L or XL. I went for large and it fits great, I was also a bit worried about jacket & sleeve length, they are right on. Tall people may find them a tad short.
BTW for some reason this shipped Fedex, their service is much better than UPS. Keep up the good work Competition Accessories!!
Overall this is a good jacket. I think the collar is a little tall for me. I can not zip it up and still use it, but I have the same issue with most other brands. Overall the fit is about right and wow the leather is thick.. I mean I could probably go a 1/2 mile on my back with this thing. I usually do not need the liner, but last weekend was about 40 and I am happy I had it to throw in.. Great jacket. Highly recommend.
Love this jacket. Get compliments when I wear it. You cant tell that it is armored. I wear it on and off my bikes. The distressed version is very distressed and quite different looking. Great jacket.
Tim - How was the fit
I am 6' 1" 185 lbs & wonder if a 46 will fit.
Finally got the jacket 4 weeks ago when they came in I guess they were hung up in customs .
Overall it is great. Seems to be made of very high quality thick leather. The armor is thick, but not bulky. Temperatures have been in the mid 60's during the day and about 35-45 at night and this jacket has worked well in both. I have not needed the liner yet, but pretty soon I am sure it will come in useful. There are plenty of pockets for my wallet, blackberry and other necessary items. I really like the fact that is does not look like a motorcycle jacket. So I have been using it for my everyday cold weather jacket. I definitely recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a seriously high quality leather jacket.
Tim - Do you get it
How is the fit
I want to make sure they do not fit too small.
I have owned the non-distressed version of this jacket since December of 2010.
I do agree with previous comments on the following:
- The jacket is Very stiff when you first get it. This was an easy fix, pull out the armor and wear it as a normal jacket which it easily doubles as and within 2-3 weeks it was much better.
- The liner is not necessarily crappy. What is poor is the fact that there are no sleeve tie downs loops sewn into the jacket. There are attachments on the liner to do so, but there is nothing to attach them too.
- There is no closure strap at the neck, but it zips all the way up.
My only other issue with the coat is that the zipper is reversed. However, these were all minor issues.
The jacket itself is fantastic. Very thick good quality leather. When riding season is on hold here, I wear this jacket as a normal jacket. I have received a ton of compliments.
When riding, I do like the fact that you can zip the collar all the way up. The zipper also opens from the bottom. Plenty of pockets. Decent armor. And it is Warm! I have ridden in 40 degree weather and did not feel it at all with this jacket. With that said, even though it does have vents, I would not wear in anything above 65 degree weather.
I have the distressed leather one, and I too really like the way it looks, but it' is 'very' distressed. Overall quality of the jacket is quite good, and yes, the liner is a bit cheesy. Having said that, it is a warm jacket and once I started wearing it around a bit, it really broke in nicely. It's a very comfortable jacket now that doesn't reveal that it's armored. Lots of compliments. It's one of my regular winter coats now.
When I received it, it had a pocket snap that had pulled out of the leather. Also, it was smaller than I'd anticipated. CA replaced it because of the snap--for free--and shipped me a larger size. That jacket has no problems, and fits me well. I'm 5-11, 225lbs, and the 50 is perfect.
I waited and bought it in March when it went on sale, which was cool, but it's a good value at the 'regular' price, IMHO.
Feels like an 'old friend'.
I have to agree with the previous submission. The liner is junk but thankfully everything else is good. It is stiff but I can say I rode in 32F temperature and wasn't cold. I'm 6'1 and 230 lbs. A size 50 fit me just right with just enough room for my Gerbing liner if I need it. All in all it's a decent deal for the price to me.
Great quality, very thick liner. Worked great in cold weather riding. Had to go up a size. I am 6" , 230 and needed a 50. Most because my arms were a little tight with the liner in. Overall excellent value even with paying to exchange it once.
Ordered a 46, hope it fits. I can't wait to get it, i have been looking for a longer leather jacket for sometime now. FYI- If you order they are not in stock yet. So I called to check delivery and was told they would arrive about the beginning of October.
I will review again once I have it in hand and have used it. Thanks Tim
