Scorpion EXO-R2000 Helmet Review
Scorpion EXO R2000 Video Review
Hey guys this is Reuben with Competition Accessories and welcome to our review of the long waited scorpion EXO R2000. This helmet is the top flagship helmet for Scorpion which is their premium race helmet, which we have not really seen from scorpion in the past. Not to say they havent had some fantastic street helmets out there I have rode in the EXO 700 for years. For those of you that follow moto gp then you may have seen the occasional scorpion helmet out there that some of the guys wear. You also may have seen some of the moto 2 and moto 3 guys wear them. So Scorpion is definitely stepping it up getting those guys into a world class helmet. Now having said that I rode in this helmet for the first time yesterday, now I have known about this helmet for quite some time and we have a preview video available when we first saw the EXO R2000 and it has been a long time coming but they are finally in the US. One of the best things about the EXO R2000 is the amount of value that it brings, not only is the price good right up under the 400 dollar mark you can jump on our website to check out the current pricing and you can also earn up to 5% comp a cash back on future purchases. It is a great helmet for the prices that you are paying your also getting included a dark smoke visor in the box. Don't forget with most premium road race helmets that your spending 40-50-60 bucks at least on a dark smoke visor so in addition to being a good price your also getting a dark smoke visor included. This comes with a really nice visor pouch with a soft liner and is going to be really handy in bringing along an extra visor with you when you need to swap between dark smoke and clear. You also get this helmet bag, its your typical draw string helmet bag but it is padded quite a bit and its a little bit nice than your run of the mill helmet sack. Lets get into the details of the helmet though because I have rode in it yesterday and I came away very very impressed. First of all you can see the one I have up here on the scale these are all size larges, this one here comes in right around three and half pounds. So your looking at a really go wait so that is very competitive when your talking road race helmets. Another thing that your are going to notice with the EXO R2000 is the aerodynamic shape. You can see it has a very aggressive tear drop shape which is going to keep the helmet very stable at speed and I confirmed that yesterday. Secondly it promotes really good venting and that's one thing that it really does well this helmet can really push air throughout the helmet. I was very impressed with how much air flow actually came through the helmet. The shell itself you may be wondering what it is made out of, it is made of a newly developed material Scorpion is calling their thermo dynamic composite technology it is essentially a five layer shell constructed with a combination of carbon fiber and aeromid material and other organic fibers. They are manufacturing it in four different shell sizes, what that means is your getting a helmet shell that's is sized optimally for the size helmet that you are buying so if you have a size medium helmet its not an extra large shell with thicker padding in it. Bottom line is lower end helmets may come in two different shell sizes and differences in the padding also. That's take a quick look from some of the features from the outside mainly ventilation first thing we want to look at is the chin bar vent this directs air up onto the face shield this helps to prevent fogging you also have a brow vent and then these two chimney vents at the top they are two positions with small sliders on the top and these are the ones you can really feel you open these up and you can feel a lot of air coming down inside the helmet and it transfers down the back and out the helmet as well. Now those do part of the work and I think what really sets this helmet apart with ventilation is the the rear vent. As you ride and area of low pressure is created back behind the helmet and acts like a vacuum and pulls the warm air right out the back of the helmet. You cannot close any of the rear vents which is very common, a lot of helmets just leave the rear vents open but these vents work so well that with the front vents closed I could still feel some air flow throughout the helmet. You still get a lot of air even with the vents closed so your definitely getting good ventilation. Back here you have some exhaust extractors around the sides and around the top, obviously you have this rear wing for stability. It is Snell 2010 approved along with DOT. Now talking about the face shield, the one they use on this helmet is a hybrid of its kind it no longer has the traditional click and release its more of the traditional base plate mechanism with a lock mechanism on the side so you can tilt it back to lock the shield back. They have ever clear on their shields that does a really good job at preventing fogging, I said it before and I will say it again I still think it is one of the best anti-fog systems out there. Since it is a coating you need to be careful not to wash the inside of the shield with a lot of soap because that can wash away the interior and after a long it does reduce how much anti-fog capability it does has since it is a coating on the shield itself. Scorpion is also going to be using a pinlock ready max shield with tear off posts. You have several detentes throughout the range of the shield. To change the shield out is very simple, they have done a really good job with this it is a simple trigger on the side, push it forward and you can see the shield falls right off. Another thing that you are getting from scorpion is their air pump system, this is for the cheek pads and behind the cheek pads you have some small bladders and behind the chin curtain you can see this red bulb you press that and the air pumps up the bladders behind the cheek pads. This helps give you a really good seal and helps quite down the helmet as well. Beyond that you also have a really nice padded thick neck roll. You can see the size of the opening and it might look pretty small here and that's because it is. It is a pretty snug opening but it is a very flexible material and it is comfortable against the skin. You can see it is made of a lot of mesh and it also has a lot of padding to it. This really helps reduce wind noise its almost like a neck curtain that goes around your neck. Getting it on and off isnt an issue I did not feel like it was especially tight. You do need to deflate the cheek pads before putting it on or taking it off. It does have the emergency pull tab here and you can see that the cheek pads and neck roll will all come out. Taking a look at the liner itself you can also remove the crown liner, it comes out with a couple of snaps at the back and a few around the front. This is what they call their quick wick two moisture wicking liner and that is just simply the fabric it is made out of. It is finished with a lot of different densities of foam around the outside here and it is very comfortable and moisture wicking. Also the cheek pads have this quick fit system so it makes it a lot easier if you wear eye glasses. Now looking at the top of the EPS liner now EPS is expanded poly therein it is the foam that is absorbing impact if you go down. You can see why this helmet vents so well it has multiple air channels throughout the shell, again it flows a lot of air. You can jump on our website to check out the different colors we have available and the different graphics, as far as sizing goes they fit a little bit more snug but they are true to size. For a helmet that is going for under 400 bucks with a dark smoke face shield your getting an incredible valuable and you can check them out on our website at competition accessories, we have great free shipping deals, easy exchange programs and no restocking fees, thanks for watching and we will see you next time.
