Hey guys this is Reuben with Competition Accessories Welcome to our premium modular helmets guide this video is going to encompass these four helmets that i have in front of me that range from around 450$ all the way up to 700$ plus so again premium modular motorcycle helmets here that were going to talk about and hopefully we can narrow it down for you if your in the market for a new modular. There's some key differences between these all of them are fantastic helmets very well made and premium features if your not familiar with modular helmets basically that means it just has a flip up chin bar , your going to be able to raise that up out of the way if you wear eye glasses that's a huge advantage you can easily get your glasses on and off . All of these helmets accommodate glasses very well they also work very well if you need to talk to somebody at a light or a gas station you can easily raise that up and have a face to face conversation with somebody if your a smoker if you want to take a drink with your helmet on you can do all of those things with a modular helmet so convenience factor is really high with a helmet that is in this price range obviously you paying for a lot of comfort features and premium features that your just not getting with less expensive modular helmets the fit and finish of each of these is very very good and i just want to stress that each one of these helmets is good each in its own right and were going to kind of run though these from my left to my right from least expensive to most expensive and kind of break down the differences between the four that i have in front of me. So first here on my left , to your right , is the Nolan N104 now this is the only helmet that doesn't have a composite shell it has a polycarbonate lexane shell its manufactured in two shell sizes these were made in Italy again its a nice fit and finish . One of my favorite things about the Nolan is it keeps the chin bar very very tight and low when you look at how the shield mechanism and the chin bar mechanism opens and functions in fact if i close this down and open it again if you focus on this pivot right here you'll see when you open it up it actually starts to raise and then it slides back into place and then it has a nice secure detente at the raised position its called an elliptical pivot instead of being on a single access raising up like most other modular helmets this one actually keeps it nice and low and then there's actually a chin bar lock on the side so if i click that in that actually going to prevent the chin bar from coming down at all . So if you like to ride with the chin bar in the raised position at all and i know all motorcyclists if you wear modular around town or if its hot out a lot of the time you'll keep the chin bar raised. A lot of manufactures actually don't recommend that just for safety reasons obviously you don't want that chin bar to accidentally fall down but well talk real world here i know a lot of you guys going to be wearing modulars are going to ride with the chin bar open. This one is going to prevent it from accidentally coming down on you, even with this unlocked it still has a very nice locked detente if you want to close it you will have to apply some pressure to move down and your going to have to click down into place. All the helmets up here are going to have metal to metal latches obviously as a safety feature you don't want the chin bar to open on accidentally open all the chin bars up here have very secure latching systems I'm not going to elaborate on that on every single helmet here . We do have a full helmet brake downs of each of these helmets so if you do actually want to see how the latches work and hear more about the features of each of these helmets you'll have a chance to watch those videos at the end of this one. To talk some more about the chin bar mechanism on the Nolan though its a little different in that there's a two stage operation there's a tab on the base that you can pull forward its just going to get that other one to come out squeeze those together that's what actually releases the latch. So its a two stage procedure to get that released and that's just an extra safety feature that's going to help keep the chin bar down and secure in case of an accident . You have a European style ratcheting strap on the Nolan these are nice and handy because you can get them on and off with gloves on and that's infinitely a nice feature just going to adjust the strap to where its comfortable to you and then it will just ratchet into place and some Americans are a little leary of these but they are incredibly strong or at least as strong as the D ring system that's found on other helmets that were used to here in the US but its actually very common over in Europe. Fully removable interior on the Nolan talk about the Ncom system briefly they have a Ncom communication system you can remove this base plate here pop that off and install the Ncom system and you'll easily be able to integrate their communication system with the helmet here though its going to integrate very cleanly. It has nice openings for a speaker pockets and plenty of room in the chin bar for a mic. So Definitely a great option for those of you running a communication system , and last but not least internal sun visor there's a slider on this slide that forward its going to deploy the internal sun shield it does have an anti fog coating on it and its spring loaded so you click that red tab and its just going to raise that up nice and smoothly out of the way. Pin lock lens is included with the Nolan so for the external face shield anti fog is accomplished with the anti fog insert. In fact while were talking about pin lock all of these helmets up here include a pin lock ready shield with the pin lock insert included in the box . So you are paying more for these types of helmets but you do get all those types of features included . Ventilation system last but not least on the Nolan is pretty ingenuitive the way that they have designed it they have a single slider up here on the top , and the first position is meant to crack this upper air scoop , fully released all the way to the back it is not only going to open this air scoop here but it also opens the brow vent at the front of the helmet . You'll see that they integrate a spoiler into the shell itself and then there is an exhaust port out the back to help warm air escape out the back of this Nolan . Again the Nolan N104 is going to retail for 449$ you'll have to jump on our website to see our current pricing is we are able to discount the Nolan with a pretty healthy discount but you can jump on there and see what those go for currently on our site. So for retail price ten dollars more 459$ for the HJC which is the next one to the left here. This is the RPHA Max which is brand new this one just came out it was just released and we are really impressed with it it has their premium integrated matrix shell its actually manufactured in three different shell sizes these ones are made in Korea but you see a lot of design influence over from the RPHA 10 which is their premium road race helmet or the RPS 10 which you might be familiar with so really top of the line features coming out in this helmet very aerodynamic design HJC uses extensive wind tunnel testing and development of both the aerodynamics of the shell and the ventilation system for the RPHA max very very nicely done helmet. Ill place this helmet on the scale here you can see its very light weight 3.6 pounds that's almost as light in fact that lighter then a lot of full faced helmets and its almost as light as its full faced brother the RPHA10 . So definitely a very well constructed helmet . Chin bar opens with a simple pull of the tab on the bottom that rotates up on a single access but it does stick up a bit further then the Nolan which all of the other helmets up here are going to be in that boat. You have what they call their cool forever interior fabric its moisture wicking fully removable customizable you can change out different sized cheek pads you have pockets for speakers on the sides here that should accommodate just about any kind of communication system standard D ring and chin strap for the closure . This does have an internal sun visor much like the rest of these helmets here this one is deployed with a slider on the top . This is just going to slide forward and lock into place and you can see it lowers down there it does have an anti fog coating on it , and then there's a button on the top here you press that and its going to retract that up . You might have noticed like the Nolan this one is also damped so its not a jarring sudden spring loaded motion its more of a smooth nice retraction. This helmet includes a max vision pin lock shield. You can see the blue outline on the face shield here its nice and large that's how the outline of this pin lock is going to sit on the shield so your going to get unrestricted vision out of the helmet here . And the pin lock insert if your not familiar with it creates a duel pane effect you have an interior shield a small bead of air and your actual external face shield when you install the pin lock insert and that gives you some insulation between the outside air and the inside . It really does a fantastic job at reducing fog , and again all of these helmets include the pin lock insert . Moving on to the right here you have the Neotec . The Neotec is made by Shoei and if your familiar with motorcycle helmets you've probably heard of Shoei they have been around for quite a while they are made in Japan they have an advanced integrated matrix 5 ply shell its manufactured in three different shell sizes fit and finish again very nice what you would expect from a Shoei . You finally get fully removable interior our previous modular helmets did not offer , internal sun visor is deployed on this helmet with a simple slider found on the left side of the shell here. Slide that up here to deploy it no springs or buttons on this guy its just a simple slider very easy and intuitive to use and if you know where that slider is you can get that up and down very easily . That is anti fog coated you have a multi density liner which is the actual foam inside of this helmet which is going to progressively absorb impact and its also allows them built to let in air channels though out the EPS liner so that this top vent can actually function as a ram air scoop to slide it back and that's actually going to draw air down inside the helmet and then you have an exhaust vent on the back here. This Shoei retails for 648$- 662$ so right around that 650 dollar range . There are graphics available that run for a little bit more then that but the solids are right around that 650 dollar range and we actually are able to provide a little bit of a discount on the Shoei as well. Last but not least we have the Schuberth C3 up here on the right . The Schuberth is made in Germany retails for 699$ and there are no discounts available on these guys, they charge a premium on them but it is worth every penny according to those who buy the Schuberth C3. First thing to point out its an extremely clean shell design, if you look at the back here there's no extra spoilers no extra vents on the back its just a very clean shell design which means its going to be the quietest helmet of the bunch here and that's really what Schuberth really prides themselves on its been wind tunnel tested and actually proven to be extremely quiet at freeway speeds so if noise is something that bothers you if your on a longer ride it gives you kind of a fatigue if you want to use a communication system so having a quieter helmet will help you enjoy that a little bit better the Schuberth with a lot of little design features just to get a very quiet ride . In fact if you look at the top of the face shield here you may notice these little triangle shapes here that is what they call tribulaters. Rather then having just a simple face shield that is just smooth and flat that would create a lot of turbulence around the seal here . These tribulaters actually create a bit of a swirl as it comes over the shell of the helmet , so instead of creating extra wind noise around that seal its actually going to promote wind to go up and over the shell of the helmet so it keeps the noise nice and low . Intake vent is a single vent at the top here and then you have a chin bar vent and again no exit vents on the back of the shell but it does create an area for the air to flush out at the base of the neck , so probably not as aggressively vented as for some of the helmets up here but again your getting a very quiet ride with very tight tolerances how the chin bar integrates with the rest of the helmet its a very nice tight and secure fit. Another thing that's unique to the Schuberth if you get it open here they have their anti roll off system which is an additional chin strap so you have your standard chin strap that has a ratchet enclosure much like the Nolan , and this is a German helmet your seeing that European influence in this one , but rather then just coming up and connecting inside the helmet like most do , it also has an additional strap that runs inside around the base of the helmet and you may have noticed there are a couple of rivets on the back here . That is what they call their anti roll off system, So if you were to go down and hit this helmet is not going to be able to roll forward off of your head or out of place. As this chin bar tightens against your neck this rear strap is going to pull tight keep the helmet in place its an additional safety design that Schuberth has used in their design. They also have a very rounded chin bar, so that if you were to go down and hit your chin on your chest its a very round shape so its not going to create an additional point of injury in that area . Ill show you how the internal sun visor works on the Schuberth , so again a very similar design to the Shoei just a simple slider that's here on the side, slide that back to release the shield down and into your vision and then slide it back to get it up and out of the way. Again that's also anti fog coated, it includes the pin lock insert so your getting all the features that your getting with the other helmets plus your also getting additional safety features. Last but not least on the Schuberth there's a couple of things , first of all the interior out of all of these as you would expect for a 700 dollar helmet is the most plush and the softest and just looking at it on camera you will be able to tell its a very premium fabric very comfortable its what they call Techskin design to keep you comfortable in cool weather and warm weather its cool max so its moisture wicking , its anti bacterial its very comfortable fully removable and then another thing you can do on the Schuberth that is really neat. You can remove the neck roll and replace it with the Schuberth communication system it actually integrates the communication system into the neck roll of the helmet. So your going to get buttons on the neck roll you don't have to attach anything externally to add bulk or weight or wind noise its just integrated right into the neck roll it works really really well and again if price is no object for you this is the top of the line helmet for you that your looking at right here. Definitely a very nice helmet again it retails at 699$ and there is no discounts available on the Schuberth line but that's what your going to get for 699 dollars there are some other graphics available with the Schuberth that will give you a little bit more as far as solids for price is 699. Now real quick i didn't have a chance to weigh all of these and while i do that I'm going to talk about the fit. First of all the Schuberth is going to be the lightest one up here talking about this being a 699 dollar helmet it is 3.55 pounds . If weight is something that is of concern to you weather you have neck issues that cause issues for you or if you just want to have a helmet that isn't going to cause fatigue when your on the bike for extended amounts of time the Schuberth is the lightest one up here. As far as fit goes i would say between the Nolan and the Schuberth these are going to be the most round oval shape that we have up here on the table, and then when you look at the Shoei and the RPHA max these are going to be the more intermediate oval or a slightly longer oval shape between the three of these. As for sizing goes these are all a size large I've tried all of them on they all fit true to size i wouldn't need to go up or down a size in any of them although i will say the opening for the Nolan is the tightest out of them pull the helmet on and off over your ears the Nolan is a little bit tighter but again that's going to give you a better seal on the base of your neck to prevent wind noise. The Schuberth weighed 3.55 pounds , by contrast the Shoei is going to be heaviest on the table is 4.05 pounds now and that's a half pound difference try and keep that in mind. And then the RPHA Max again very light weight almost on the same weight as the Schuberth 3.6 pounds so very impressive design on the part of the HJC. And then the Nolan up here 3.8 pounds it kind of splits the difference between the others . Hopefully that helps you narrow it down a bit between these top four modular helmets that we offer at Competition Accessories , they are all fantastic options just pick one that strikes your fancy as far as looks which ever one that fits your budget the best and bare in mind that comfort is something that can be bought that is something that is appreciated on a longer ride i know how a lot of you guys ride year round long commutes long tours you know year long around the world trips your going to want something that is extremely comfortable that you can endure wearing for days and days on end and be very comfortable and not have something that's a distracting or uncomfortable for you.
HEY GUYS THIS IS REUBEN AT COMPETITION ACCESSORIES WELCOME TO OUR FIRST LOOK AT THE NOLAN N104 NOLAN IS A PREMIUM HELMET MANUFACTURER THIS HELMET IS MANUFACTURED IN ITALY ITS ONE OF THE NEWEST MODULAR HELMETS ON THE MARKET I HAVE BEEN REALLY IMPRESSED WITH ITS FEATURES IT REALLY PROVIDES YOU WITH A TON OF PREMIUM HELMET FEATURES FOR A PRICE THATS FAIRLY COMPETITIVE WHEN YOU COMPARE WHAT OTHER HELMETS ARE OFFERING OUT THERE. THE FIRST THING THAT STRUCK ME WHEN I FIRST LOOKED AT THIS HELMET IS THE GIGANTIC EYE PORT THIS THING HAS A HUGE FACE SHIELD TOP TO BOTTOM VISION IS GOING TO BE VERY UNRESTRICTED AND YOU HAVE A NICE PERIPHERAL UNRESTRICTED VIEW OUT OF THE HELMET AS WELL SO YOU GOT PLENTY OF VISION OUT OF THE HELMET THE FACE SHIELD DOES HAVE A LOCKING MECHANISM RIGHT HERE IN THE CENTER WHICH I LIKE THE CENTERED POSITION BECAUSE YOU CAN REACH IT EASILY WITH EITHER HAND SO IF YOUR OPERATING THE CLUTCH YOU DONT HAVE TO REACH AROUND TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HELMET TO GET IT OPEN BUT WHEN YOU PUSH THIS ALL THE WAY DOWN ITS GOING TO LOCK INTO PLACE GIVES YOU A NICE SEAL AROUND THE GASKET THERE AND THEN AS YOU RAISE IT YOU HAVE A FEW DIFFERENT DETENTS TO BRING THE SHIELD UP AND THEN INSIDE YOU HAVE ANOTHER VERY POPULAR FEATURE ITS CALLED THEIR VISION PROTECTION SYSTEM BUT ITS BASICALLY A SLIDER OPERATED DROP DOWN VISOR SO THE MECHANISM WORKS BY PUSHING FORWARD THATS GOING TO LOCK THIS INTERNAL SMOKE SHIELD DOWN INTO PLACE AND THEN WHEN YOU WANT TO RETRACT IT YOU JUST BASICALLY HIT THIS RED BUTTON ON THE BASE OF THE CHIN BAR AND ITS GOING TO BE SPRING LOADED AND ITS GOING TO RETRACT RIGHT UP INTO THE HELMET SO VERY CONVIENENT IF YOU RUN UNDER A TUNNEL OR JUST SUDDENLY NEED TO SEE A LITTLE BETTER YOU CAN DROP THAT RIGHT UP OUT OF THE WAY THE INTERNAL SHIELD IS ANTI SCRATCH TREATED AND ITS ALSO ANTI FOG SO YOUR NOT GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH FOGGING ON THE INTERNAL VISOR AND THEN TO COMBAT FOG ON THE EXTERNAL SHIELD THE N104 DOES INCLUDE A PINLOCK INSERT AND I GOT THAT HERE IT STILL HAS THE PROTECTIVE FILM ON IT WHICH IS WHY ITS GOT THAT YELLOW COLOR TO IT ONCE YOU REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE FILM THAT YELLOW COLOR IS GOING TO GO AWAY BUT BASICALLY THE WAY THIS WORKS IS THE PINLOCK INSERT IS GOING TO INSTALL BETWEEN THE POSTS THAT IS BUILT INTO THE SHIELD ITSELF AND THAT GIVES YOU A KIND OF DUAL PANE EFFECT TO WHERE YOUR FACE SHIELD IS GOING TO BE INSULATED FROM THE ELEMENTS SO IN COLDER WEATHER CONDITIONS ITS GOING TO DO A FANTASTIC JOB ELEMINATING FOG OF COURSE THE OTHER CLAIM TO FAME FOR THE N104 BEING A MODULAR HELMET IS ITS FLIP UP CHIN BAR NOW THE WAY YOU OPERATE THE CHIN BAR ON THE N104 IS WHAT THEY CALL THEIR DUAL ACTION CENTROMATIC CHIN BAR RELEASE BASICALLY THATS A FANCY WAY OF SAYING YOU GOT TO SQUEEZE TWO PIECES TOGETHER TO GET IT TO OPEN. AND THE PURPOSE FOR THAT IS FOR SAFETY REASONS. YOU DONT WANT ANY KIND OF MECHANISM THAT CAN ACCIDENTLY BE TRIGGERED IN AN ACCIDENT SO BASICALLY TO OPEN THIS SHIELD YOU HAVE TO PULL FORWARD ON THE RED TAB ON THE BASE OF THE HELMET WHICH IS GOING TO EXPOSE THIS SECONDARY TAB THEN YOU SQUEEZE THOSE TOGETHER AND THATS GOING TO RAISE IT UP OUT OF THE WAY NOW IM GONNA DO THAT ONE MORE TIME AND I WANT YOU TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE PIVOT SYSTEM HERE. BASICALLY THEY CALL IT THEIR ELLIPTICAL TRAJECTORY AS YOU RAISE THE CHIN BAR UP YOU WILL NOTICE THAT THE CHIN BAR ITSELF ACTUALLY DOESNT JUST ROTATE ON ONE AXIS IT COMES UP AND THEN AS YOU ROTATE IT UP IT ACTUALLY SLIDES BACK. I DONT KNOW IF YOU CAN SEE THAT AS I RAISE IT UP WHAT THAT IS DOING FOR YOU IS THAT IS KEEPING THE CHIN BAR EXTREMELY LOW AND CLOSE TO THE TOP OF THE HELMET. A LOT OF OTHER MANUFACTURERS WHEN YOU RAISE IT UP IT PIVOTS ON THAT ONE AXIS SO YOU GOT THIS GIANT CHIN BAR STICKING UP ON THE TOP OF THE HELMET WHICH MAKES IT REALLY IMPRATICAL TO RIDE WITH. WHAT NOLAN HAS DONE IS THEY HAVE KEPT IT REALLY NICE AND LOW SO IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT THE WAY THE FACE SHIELD COMES UP HERE ITS VERY CLOSE TO THE TOP OF THE SHELL. AND THEN THEY GIVE YOU A LOCKING MECHANISM SO ON THE SIDE HERE YOU GOT A SWITCH SO IF YOU SLIDE THAT BACK ITS ACTUALLY GOING TO LOCK THAT CHIN BAR IN PLACE. SO IT CANT ACCIDENTLY CLOSE ON YOU. SO YOU CAN ACTUALLY SAFELY RIDE WITH THIS THING OPEN. WHICH A LOT OF OTHER MANUFACTURERS DISCOURAGE YOU FROM DOING. OBVIOUSLY MODULAR HELMETS ARE VERY CONVIENT IF YOUR ON A TRIP OR COMMUTING OR IF YOU WEAR EYE GLASSES. THIS INTERIOR DOES ACCOMADATE EYEGLASSES THEY GOT SPACE THERE SO THAT YOU CAN COMFORTABLY SLIDE YOUR GLASSES ON AND OFF WITH THE CHIN BAR UP. SOME PEOPLE DEPENDING ON THEIR GLASSES CAN EVEN SLIDE THE HELMET ON WHILE WEARING THEIR GLASSES JUST KEEP THE CHIN BAR UP. TAKE A LOOK AT THE VENTILATION SYSTEM ON THE N104. NOLAN CALLS IT THEIR AIR BOOSTER SYSTEM. THERE IS A PRETTY FANCY MECHANISM FOR THESE INTAKE SCOOPS ON THE TOP OF THE HELMET. IF I TILT THIS FORWARD IT MIGHT BE KIND OF DIFFICULT TO SEE ON THE VIDEO BUT THERE IS A SLIDER SWITCH ON THE TOP OF THE HELMET. THAT ACTUALLY OPERATES A RAM AIR SCOOP ON THE TOP AND THIS BROWBAND IN THE FRONT JUST ABOVE THE FACE SHIELD HERE SO IF I SLIDE IT BACK TO THE FIRST POSITION ITS BASICALLY JUST RAISING UP THIS TOP AIR SCOOP PARTIALLY THATS GOING TO DIRECT AIR DOWN INTO THE TOP OF THE HELMET IF YOU NEED MORE AIR FLOW THAN THAT YOU CAN SLIDE IT ALL THE WAY BACK AND THATS GOING TO RAISE THIS AIR SCOOP JUST ANOTHER LITTLE NOTCH THERE BUT IT ALSO HAS A MECHANISM INTERNALLY THAT OPENS THAT BROWBAND AND THAT DOES A COUPLE THINGS ONE IT KEEPS ALL THE OPERATION IN ONE SIMPLE CONVIENT AREA WHICH YOU CAN OPERATE WITH GLOVES THE OTHER THING IT DOES THAT I REALLY LIKE IS IT DOESNT GIVE YOU A WHOEL LOT OF PROTRUDING PIECES ON THE VENTS THEMSELVES SO A LOT OF LESS EXPENSIVE HELMETS MIGHT JUST PUT A SLIDER SWITCH RIGHT ON THE BROW VENTS THERE SOMETIMES IT CAN BE KIND OF FINIKY AND LOOSE BUT IT ALSO CAN ADD TO THE WIND NOISE FACTOR AND WITH THIS HELMET IT IS VERY CLEAN SHELL TAKE A LOOK AT THE BACK OF THE SHELL HERE AS AIR GETS PUSHED IN THESE FRONT VENTS AND THE TOP VENT HERE ITS GOING TO HAVE SOMEWHERE TO GO WITH THESE REAR EXHAUST VENTS NOW THESE ARE GOING TO BE ALWAYS OPEN AS YOU RIDE A VACCUUM IS GOING TO BE CREATED BEHIND YOUR HEAD AND THATS GOING TO HELP DRAW WARM AIR OUT OF THE BACK OF THE HELMET WHICH IS A GREAT WAY TO KEEP THE HELMET COOL AND COMFORTABLE AND THEN YOU ALSO GET A CHIN BAR VENT ON THIS HELMET AS WELL WHICH IS GOING TO BE OPERATED WITH A SIMPLE SLIDER SWITCH AND THAT IS ACTUALLY GOING TO DIRECT AIR UP ON THAT FACE SHIELD JUST GIVE YOU A LITTLE MORE AIR CIRCULATION IN THE FRONT OF THE HELMET AND MANAGE ANY FOGGING ON THE FACE SHIELD ITSELF. OK SO TAKING A LOOK AT THE INTERIOR OF THE N104 COUPLE OF THINGS I WANTED YOU TO NOTICE FIRST OF ALL YOU HAVE A REFLECTIVE MATERIAL THAT RUNS AROUND THE FRONT OF THE CHIN BAR AND AT THE BASE OF THE NECK ROLL SOME MORE ADDITIONAL REFELCTIVE MATERIAL WHICH IS GOING TO INCREASE YOUR NIGHT TIME VISIBILITY SO THAT IS A NICE FEATURE AND THEN AS YOU OPEN THE CHIN BAR UP I DID WANT TO POINT OUT THAT YOU DO HAVE STAINLESS STEEL HARDWARE IN THE LATCHES SO METAL TO METAL CONTACT WHICH IS GOING TO KEEP THE CHINBAR DOWN AND NICE AND SECURE. THE N104 IS ALSO READY TO ACCEPT THE N-COM B4 SYSTEM SO YOU CAN INSTALL THAT SYSTEM ITS GOING TO SEAMLESSLY INTEGRATE WITH THE HELMET YOU HAVE SPEAKER POCKETS BEHIND THE CHEEK PADS AND ITS GOING TO SEAMLESSLY INSTALL BE VERY CLEAN AND NO WIRES TO RUN THROUGHOUT THE HELMET ITS A VERY SIMPLE SYSTEM TO INSTALL INTO THE HELMET THE OTHER THING I WANT TO POINT OUT IS YOU GET A EUROPEAN STYLE RATCHETING INCLOSURE SO RATHER THAN HAVING A D-RING AND STRAP LIKE A TRADITIONAL HELMET YOU GET THE RATCHET STYLE SYSTEM WHICH IS VERY POPULAR IN EUROPE ITS ACTUALLY VERY CONVIENT AND SIMPLE TO USE BASICALLY YOU JUST INSERT IT UNTIL ITS TIGHT AND COMFORTABLE FOR YOU IT IS A VERY STRONG SECURE LATCH TO RELEASE IT YOU JUST PUSH UP ON THE RED TAB AND ITS GOING TO COME RIGHT APART FOR YOU THE INTERIOR IS FULLY REMOVABLE AND ONE THING THAT IS NICE ABOUT THE N104 IS THIS CHIN CURTAIN IS ACTUALLY IM SORRY THE NECK ROLL OF THE HELMET ITSELF IS ACTUALLY OPTIONAL SO IN SUMMER TIME IF YOU WANT A LITTLE BIT MORE AIR FLOW THROUGHOUT THE HELMET YOU CAN ACTUALLY REMOVE JUST THE NECK ROLL AND RUN WITHOUT THAT GIVE YOURSELF A LITTLE BIT MORE VENTILATION INSIDE THE HELMET AND WHEN ITS COLD YOU CAN INSTALL IT OR LEAVE IT IN AND THATS GOING TO DO TWO THINGS FOR YOU ONE ITS OBVIOUSLY GOING TO INSULATE YOU BETTER FROM THE ELEMENTS AND THEN SECONDLY IT WILL ALSO REDUCE WIND NOISE SINCE YOU WILL HAVE A BETTER SEAL AROUND THE BASE OF THE HELMET THERE THE INTERIOR IS LINED WITH WHAT NOLAN CALLS THEIR CLIMA COMFORT PADDING WHICH IS ANTI-BACTERIAL ANTI-FUNGAL. ITS BASICALLY USING A SILVER SALT TECHNOLOGY WHICH IS GOING TO ABSORB AND WICH MOISTURE AWAY FROM THE SKIN TO KEEP YOU COMFORTABLE AND AGAIN ITS FULLY REMOVABLE SO YOU CAN PULL OUT THE INTERIOR AND WASH IT TO KEEP THE HELMET FRESH SO THATS OUR OVER VIEW OF THE NOLAN N104 NEW MODULAR HELMET FROM ITALY CHECK THESE OUT ON OUR WEBSITE AT COMPETITION ACCESSORIES YOU CAN ALSO CLICK ON THE LINK IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THIS VIDEO THAT WILL TAKE YOU TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL BE SURE TO SUBSCRIBE TO US THERE SO YOU CAN STAY UP TO DATE WITH ALL OUR LATEST PRODUCT REVIEWS AND GIVE A WAYS THANKS FOR WATCHING AND WE WILL SEE YOU NEXT TIME.

Cool - SqeeG   CT Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Looks bad ass
    Cons: Looks bad ass

Tinted silver is a Awesome shield...not too dark as you can't see around dusk and sunrise...driving at night would be a bit impaired but not undriveable. There is no way anyone can see into the shield...so make all the faces you wanted

Great shield, needs another name - Viffer   TN Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Dark - like I wanted in the first place.
Cons: Needs to be called dark smoke, not green.

This is the darkest shield for this N-104 helmet and it transformed the usefulness of the helmet for me. Great workmanship The name green is misleading.

Clear Shield - Nolan Replacement Shield   NC Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Clear, Non scratched
    Cons: Didn't include anti-fog insert

Fast efficient delivery, inner anti-fog insert not available at the same time.

Great Helmet - Randall   PA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: [None]
    Cons: [None]

I had worn a Nolan N103 helmet since 2010 and was very happy with it. In August 2014 someone broke into our storage unit and stole items including my helmet. I replaced it with a Nolan N104 which I have come to like more than the N103. I was able to remove and reinstall the liner easily when I put a communications system into the helmet. The new helmet has an extended front that makes it less 'claustrophobic' to wear. The liner is snug without pinching and the internal sun shade is easy to pull down and retract. I'm actually happier with this helmet than I was with the N103. The improvements that Nolan has made make the helmet even better.

Nolan N104 Helmet - Cali V-Rod   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Field of vision, lightweight, no hot-spots on my noggin, ventilation, chin strap buckle
Cons: After 3-4 months of daily use, I can't come up with one...

Like many other reviewers have said, I had to exchange for the next larger size - even though I very carefully followed measuring instructions. Some reviews said to order one size bigger than you decide upon, and they were right. The EU crash rating system placed this helmet with higher performance than the competition Shoei, Schuberth - this was the only helmet with a 100 rating on chin bar remaining closed in crash testing, and impact absorption in nearly all critical areas rated higher. The safety testing decided it for me, PLUS, it cost less. All in all, I'd not hesitate to purchase another, or recommend to anyone Very happy, and just ordered the BT4Plus Bluetooth... Hoping I like it as well.

Nolan N104 helmet - Michigan Rider   MI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Good quality, quiet, I am enjoying the sun shade feature
Cons: Due to the unique chin strap, helmet does not attach to my bikes helmet lock

Mlb - Mlh   MI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Quality fit and function
    Cons: None

When I first put this helmet on I could feel the significant quality difference compared to some less expensive helmets I have tried. Everything functions perfectly as well. Feel like I am wearing a top quality helmet built for safety, not to just pass some minimal standards. Well worth every penny spent on it Would like a little more venting.

Nolan N-104 more than a year later. - Rik Jon   MN Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: high quality, good fit, does cool the top of your head.
Cons: still a bit heavy, should have shield shut for top vent to work good. need more venting in mouth guard

I've owned the Nolan N-104 for over a year. if you ride with the face shield up it catches the wind, if you have the face shield cracked open one notch it vibes in the wind and sometimes slams shut when the wind catches it, I wish the first opening stop for the face shield was more solid. When I ordered mine I measured my head, a medium was stated to fit. should have ordered a large. little snug. I would still give it a five star rating even with the little gripes. Hope Nolan listens to the reviews. Thanks for reading my review. Rick

I love this modular helmet Ordered a large based on my head circumference of 23. Fit is snug but no pressure points. I really like the quick connect chip strap over the traditional D ring. Price was very affordable compared to Shoei.

After about a year of research it came down to 3 hemets Nolan, Shoei, Schuberth. Competition Accessories offered a super deal on the Nolan so I sprung. Glad I did. It is quality helmet. I rode with an N102 for years. I fit into the slightly narrow head shape and the Nolan nails my fit. I ride a 2010 Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager ABS. It may be turning into a 2015 FJR 1300 soon. Am missing my sport touring days more and more.

    Pros: Price, quality, construction
Cons: None that would make this a bad deal

First time using a modular helmet and I like it. Fit is a little snug had to exchange a S or a M but overall it is a great helmet. Glasses slip on easily and can be used with the internal visor. It is kind of hot when wearing but cracking the face shield helps keep you cooler. Road noise is greatly reduced and vision is unrestricted. My only complaint is that the three vents on the helmet don't appear to work can't feel any air flowing thru the helmet. Cracking the shield works better but you do increase noise level. Wouldn't think twice about buying the same helmet again.

I found that with every full helm I found out there that I needed a 3 or 4X in order to get the darn thing over my head. Bad this was that once it was there it was loose. With the modular helm I was able to realize that I have a 2x head with a 3 - 4X jaw. The fit is great and comfy.

Great Helmet For The Price - Rune Rider   CT Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Good features, price, and style for the street
Cons: Just my personal claustrophobia with helmets

I bought this helmet in white and couldn't be happier. So far I have only used it for my motorcycle safety training course. I found that I'm comfortable in it for 6 hours at a time. It seems to flow air well on a hot humid June day. The combination of vents and the visor kept me from sweating. The modular design is a huge deal for me. I don't smoke and I wear contact lenses on the bike, so that's not why I like the flip up face shield. I just like being able to open up the helmet to prevent the claustrophobic feeling of a full-face helmet. Not having to pull the helmet off to get some relief and being able to operate the release with one gloved hand is really nice. The integrated sun shield is another nice touch and really easy to use with gloves on as well. Nolan has done a great job with the overall design and features of this modular helmet at a pretty competitive price point. My only negative has to do with me personally. This is an oval design and I guess I've got more of a round head. I measure a L size but had to go up to an XL to get a comfortable fit. Not a big deal but I had to go through buying and returning a L, XL, and XXL helmet to get the right fit.

Excellent Helmet - Peter   WI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Fit, Comfort, Wide field of view
Cons: Inner shield could be longer

I have owned a couple of modular helmets before I bought the Nolan N104. None fit as well, or were as comfortable.I considered buying an HJC modular, but when I tried it on and engaged the inner sun shield it hit my nose with the edge of the plastic nicking the flesh with its rough edge. The N104 doesn't come close, but it could be a little longer. My wife was against wearing a full-face helmet citing a closed in feeling. That was until I had her put on my N104. She was impressed by the wide field of view. She now wears one as well,With our two N104's that makes 4 members of our family wearing them. It's a great helmet.

Pros: Great features, nice workmanship, technically superior to the N-102
Cons: Still a little pricy, you always need 1 size bigger with these guys..., doesn't come in galaxy blue...

I had 2 Nolan N-102s that were stolen so I had to replace them, this was the best alternative for me.Very well made, even better than the N-102 I loved. Better noice reduction based on the tighter seal of the windshield, less wind into the helmet thru neck and windshield. The lock to lock open the face is a super addition to an already great product. I love the VPS button, and the release is easy to find with gloves on. This locking system allows the wearer to ride with the face open and the aero effects seem to work well, riding with face open does not cause the turbulence that the N-102 had. Bought 2 of these in XL and 2XL. Would buy them again for sure. Installed my Autocom Super Pro AVI kits with little fuss, the directions online made it easier than the N-102s were. Great product, buy it...

Great Helmet For The Price - Rune Rider   CT Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Features and Quality
Cons: Sizing for my head shape was off by one size

I'm new to riding but wanted a good quality helmet with excellent protection. The Nolan N104 seemed by far like the best helmet out there for the money. The modular design is the safest thing short of a full face helmet but you can easily get some air or talk to someone by just lifting the chin bar up. I'm a bit claustrophobic in helmets so I really like the idea of a modular helmet. The Nolan also has decent air flow with adjustable vents to keep it comfortable. The flip down sun shield with one touch retraction seems much better than trying to squeeze sunglasses under a helmet. And Nolan ships the N104 with a Pin Lock shield. It's always nice to be able to see where you're going. My only complaint which isn't really a complaint about the product is the sizing. I measure spot on as a large in the fit chart. OMG, it took me 5 minutes of pain to squeeze into a L and it hurt like hell once it was in place. Based on that experience I reordered a 2XL. That was huge Finally, I ordered an XL and that was just right. I felt like Goldilocks I guess this isn't unusual. This helmet is supposed to be a modified oval shape. I guess my pumpkin or blockhead was outside the intended range. After some trial and error, I found a fit.Oh and one other thing, Nolan makes the N104 in a wide range of colors and patterns. 26 different flavors I believe. I actually ended up keeping a White N104 Storm helmet with black trim. So almost anyone should be able to find this helmet in a look they like.

Ventilation is good behind minimal windscreens. We ordered the same size as the old helmets, they seem tighter than we remembered the old ones being when new, but know they will settle in with time. Cons: Installing an intercom NOT Nolans, took a bit of modifying

We tried on lots of helmets, this one fit great I have a small face, the cheek pads fit snug, the jaw area dose not have sideways play, the wide view is fantastic The ratchet chin strap is easy to click with gloves on. I like when I flip the front up, I can lock it in place. A safety feature when slower, not on the interstate . This new Nolan is streamlined so when it's up, it's not as high as models before it. the drop down sun visor is also easy to find with gloves on. We added Uclear duplex intercom which is also fantastic, very clear sound , easy to install, except we did have to modify the Nolan a bit to add the exterior piece. A small cut into the plastic rim. Comp Acc service was also terrific. They really helped us when buying the Uclear system. They explained things a bit better than reading about..we also used the CA video on you tube to make our decisions on both products. Happy riding.

Pros: Improved latching system and release mechanism, built in sun visor, improved padding and overall fit, ventilation
Cons: None yet. Waiting to hear the noise level on an upcoming 2500 mile ride.

I previously owned a Nolan N100 series for many years 12 years. I really liked the overall fit and finish of that helmet. The interior has held up surprisingly well after several removals for washing. There are a few chips in the finish, but overall held up really well. However, the fit is now somewhat loose and the latch & release mechanism can be erratic. To release the helmet it has to be done with two hands. And it also seems that the overall noise level at higher speeds has increased. The new N104 is really nice. Fit and finish is fantastic. The one hand release mechanism works perfect. The helmet front latches positively and feels solid. The single lever lowering and release sun visor mechanism is solid. I cannot wait to get riding again if it ever stops snowing and test out the wind noise and improved ventilation system. As usual Competition Accessories came through with the best price and timely delivery. I would recommend Competition Accessories and the Nolan 104 to anyone looking for a great helmet at a remarkably competitive price considering the features and fit and finish.

I have been looking at ordering the N104 as a replacement for my AGV modular for some time. My AGV has a lot of noise and a very annoying vibration at highway speeds. The N104 was taken on a 175 mile ride the first day during which I found it quieter than the AGV and very comfortable. It actually fits my oblong head all around and does not leave a sore spot on my forehead. The one thing I find wrong with the N104 is the length of the inner shield. While it doesn't hit my nose like a similar HJC helmet it could stand to be about a half inch longer as the gap leaves plenty of room for sunlight to enter. One additional plus is my wife does not like full face helmets due to the limited side vision of most. This helmet surprised her with the wide field of view, and she may have me order her one.Overall it is a great helmet.

Pros: Easy install, very good sound quality, no wind noise, mcrophone stays in place.
Cons: Question mini-USB connectors long term reliability

Very lightweight and long connecting cable. System installs easily, is out of the way when putting on or taking off the helmet. Microphone boom is stiff and holds the microphone in position unlike some others I have used that always seemed to want to twist the mic out of position. That may be partially due to the additional room in the area in front of the face in the N-104 helmet as compared to my old N-103. The system is unobtrusive and just snaps into place but seems to stay where you put it. My only question is about the long term reliability of the mini-USB connectors used.

The instructions are very vague and don't even mention that you need to disconnect the phone mode on the B4 and engage the A2DP mode. The B4 will then pair with the S3 and play music, also when a phone call comes in it will switch to phone mode. The sound quality is fantastic, it makes the Chatterbox sound like a squeek in a tunnel. The radio is good but the reception range is a bit short. The fit was right on. It weighs less than many others. The chin bar sits close to the shell in the up position. The view port is huge. Ventilation is good but the faceshield blocks the brow vents when sitting in an upright position, tilt down and you can feel the rush of air. I love the buckle, no more fumbling with a D ring and it is accessible with gloves on. The VSP is great since I wear glasses.I bought the n-com B4 for it and this rocks, total integration with minimal exposure to the wind.Speaking of wind, it does have quite a bit of wind noise and whistling, much more than I had hoped for but maybe I'm too critical. It is quieter than my HJC.Overall this is a very nice helmet for the price.

Really Nice Helmet - Rider from Wi   WI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Looks Good, Works Perfectly, Really Nice Features
    Cons: None so far

Haven't had much time to use it yet do to the weather, but when I have its really nice and look forward to putting it on. I wanted a modular helmet to replace an old full face helmet, looked at several and choose the Noan104. I really like the tinted flip down visor inside, it is very easy to lower or raise and I don't need sunglasses. The helmet chin bar is solid and locks securely when lowered. The buckle type chin strap is new to me and is an improvement over the old ring type in my opinion. I also bought the T-bar that goes thru the red end of the buckle so you can lock it to the bike. I installed the pin lock shield inside the visor and it works great eliminating any fogging. Finish of the helmet seems high quality. Competition Accessories service was outstandingVery Happy with my new Nolan helmet

Pros: Lighter and better vents than earlier models
Cons: Size not the same as earlier models

I have tried a lot of helmets over the last 30 years. I got a Nolan N102 about 3 years ago and loved it so much I bought another one as my spare. Now I wanted a helmet with the interior sun visor instead of the exterior one on the N102. I decided to get the N104 and I am not disappointed, it is quieter, lighter, the vents work better, the sun visor works slick and the helmet looks GREAT The only complaint is I am a big giant head guy and have XXL in the N102s, my N104 is also a XXL but is a bit snug, its been cold a rainy here and havent used it enough to break it in completely. Hopefully it will loosen up a bit more.

I'm very happy with the purchase of the Nolan n104 helmet. It performs just as described. It fits nice, lens stays clear, and is very quiet. The only draw back is the double action release at the chin takes some getting used to. Highly recommend it to any rider.

Better than anticipated - VulcanWA   WA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Lightweight, quality construction, best modular I've owned
Cons: Internal visor shape, limited options for having the shield slightly open

This is an upgrade from the N102 for me. I really liked my first modular Nolan, so I wanted to stick with them. I was a small in the N102 and after some research, I ordered a medium in the N104. It is a perfect fit. Having a previous Nolan, I had high expectations for this model and I am not disappointed. I do want a bit bigger, darker internal sun visor, so hopefully I will be able to find something aftermarket. Also when it comes to the Bluetooth setup... Who is going to spend more than the original price of the helmet for an accessory I'm sure it's quality but it is simply way too expensive. Again, waiting for an aftermarket solution that doesn't break the bank. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and this was the cheapest place to buy my helmet.

Cons: Sun shield is too short

I have only used this helmet for 3-4 hours, but I find it very comfortable and quiet. I'v been wearing a Nolan for many years, and I like their fit and finish. This one is a little bit lighter than my old one, but I don't really notice the difference. Oddly enough, one of my favorite features is the chin strap. I don't know why more helmet makers don't do something like that. The only thing I would ding them on is the sun shield. I could be just about 34 - 1 longer. Every time I look down at my gauges, the transition is right there.

Pros: Light, excellent visibility, the integrated sun visor is great
Cons: Noisier than my old Shoei RF 1000, takes some practice to smoothly use control devices

Generally, this is a great helmet. For whatever reason this helmet has more wind noise and wearing earplugs is something you probably want to do on longer rides. I wear a size 6-78 hat and a medium helmet seems to fit me fine though the chin strap is a little uncomfortable. The latch system for the chin strap is great as well as the integrated sun visor. This is my first modular helmet and it did take me a little while to get used to using all the releases with gloves on. I haven't yet been on any extended rides, but have worn the helmet for a couple two hour rides without any fatigue issues.

    Pros: Light weight and quiet
Cons: Chin strap is going to take a while to get used to

I am a full face helmet hater and have tried several modular helmets but was not a fan. This helmet is great because it has a better latch system that is more secure and makes the helmet about as good as a true full face helmet. It is also as quiet as a full face helmet. I rode last night and it was cool outside but the pin-loc kept the lens from fogging up just like advertised. It looks really big but it feels small on your head. It is nice and light for its size. The chin strap is not that comfortable to me. I will have to get used to it I guess. It also doesn't have D-rings for my helmet lock so I will have to get a new lock. I will buy another one for my wife when I get the money.

Nolan N104 - Jeff   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: VPS inner visor, huge eye port, quiet, quick release chin strap, light weight
    Cons: None

This is my first Nolan, and flip-up, having ridden with Shoei, Arai, and Bell helmets for the last 30 years. My first observations were that this helmet is very light weight compared to the other helmets currently available. The opening mechanism for the chin bar is a 2 step procedure which will eliminate the possibility of the chin bar opening accidentally. My thumb and fore-finger is all that is need to open it. Once adjusted, the microlock chin strap mechanism is easy to use , even with gloves on. I have never been able to thread the chin strap thru the D- rings with gloves on for any of the previous helmets to date. This is a HUGE plus The chin bar can also be released with warmer weather gloves on. I really like the fact that the chin bar not only rotates up, but slightly back when fully up, and can be locked into place with a small button on the left side. The VPS inner visor is the best feature. I no longer have to change to sunglasses, or even change the main visor to a darker shade when out riding. A simple slide of the lever on the left side and the VPS visor locks in place. Just push the red button to release this inner visor and it slides back up quickly by itself. This makes going to and from shaded areas a breeze to compensate for. With the helmet on, there is plenty of room in the chin bar area when using a communication system. My main concern here was that the chin bar would be to close to my mouth when closed. I have at least 34 of an inch to fit the microphone for easy speaking. On all previous full-face helmets I could kiss the chin bar with ease. The overall feel of the interior on my head is of supreme comfort. I always put the Nolan on with the chin bar raised and then lower the chin bar to lock in place. I have read with other reviewers, with flip-up helmets, that they noticed when lowering the chin bar caused the cheek pads to be pressed in tighter. This is not he case on my N104. The helmet fit does not change open or closed. I am sure other people reading this wanted to know. On changing the main visor, you just slide a button and pop off the visor quick and simple. Reinstalling the visor is just as simple. No tools required The eye-port is the largest that I have ever seen on a helmet. My vision never feels cramped or compromised as with other helmets. My peripheral vision is outstanding Side to side and up and down are the best of any helmet out there. Ventilation is also superb The vent slides can be operated very easily and customized to your tastes. The pin-lock anti-fog inner shield is easy to put in place. Just make sure to really flatten the main visor to latch the anti fog insert on the pins. I felt like I was going to break the main visor when I flattened it, as per the directions, but it sprung back to original shape instantly. No fogging to speak of. I only ride down to 35 degrees Fahrenheit , but never noticed a problem. The size XL is the perfect fit for me. I have always worn an XL since my head circumference is 24 inches. The sizing guide is spot on correct. Overall an outstanding helmet. Well worth the admission price

This is my first 'premium' helmet and I love it It is a very smart design and is build of high quality materials. I wanted a helmet that would not fog and this one is perfect. I can breath in the helmet all day in the cold and it will not fog...simply amazing compared to the other helmets I have. I am still getting used to the flip up design and ratchet chin strap but change is good.I was disappointed when the helmet was too big to fit inside my 1150GS adventure saddle bag while my XL Scorpion does. Also, I could not lock it since it doesn't have a D ring. That is why I just purchased a 6 foot lock that I will use to lock it and my other goodies up like my jacket. No big deal. I really like the helmet so far.

    Cons: There aren't any cons

I've only ridden with Arai high end helmets or the past 20 years. All previous flip up helmets have seemed too much of a compromise in noise, weight and protection. Including the earlier Nolans. While any flip up is in theory a protection compromise, the N-104 comes closest to a full face in all aspects. Easily comparable to the other European flip, at a much more reasonable price.

Weird but cool - CyberSepu   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Visibility, ability to clean liners, one button sun-visor retracting
Cons: No anti-fog nose cover, fits slightly different from other helmets

I bought this because my old Nolan-100 was way too old 8yrs old and just falling appart. This one is quite different in a good way. Visibility is incredible the visor is quite wide and runs very low, almost to the mouth. Peripheral is almost 180, and most notably I can see my whole instrument cluster without having to tilt my head down at all. I've never worn a full-face helmet with more visibility than this one. The sun shield is pretty cool in that it completelly retracts at the touch of one button. However the sunshield itselfcould be of a better quality. The liner is fully removable and confortable. It fits is a little weird in the top, feels like an upside-down hammock, but it helps keep your head cooler. The air vents are small but do an ok job too.Road noise is ok for daily use. The helmet comes with indentations close to the ears for comm headphones, which makes their use very comfortable. However even when the instructions say there are indentations in the side of the liners for easy use of glasses, I had a hard time fitting normal size sunglasses, so I have to wear really tight fitting sunglasses. One can argue that the sun visor makes sunglasses innecesary, but the visor sometimes is not enough.Lastly, the helmet has no anti-fog nose cover, which in other helmets is not a big deal but I kinda feel a little naked because the visor runs so low. I just got a bandana to cover my mouth and that's it, nobig deal.I would recommend this product more for sport-touring rides, but it is comfortable enough for every-day use and even sportstreet.

    Hilly
I have only ridden with an HJC 3/4 helmet forever, I am safety conscious, but every full face helmet made me feel shut out from the world, with limited visibility. I have to say this helmet was worth the wait. The visibility is amazing. It equals a 3/4 helmet, so no blind spots. Plus the pinlock face shield is so clear and doesn't fog up, even if you try. When installing pinlock, keep the yellow pinlock cover on, and while wearing thin gloves to avoid smudging the shield, push one side into place. Then I stretched the shield slightly to elongate enough to push the second pinlock in. Once you smooth out any ridge, remove yellow cover tape, and you're good to go. The hinge mechanism feels strong, the double chin bar levers are an intelligent design to avoid unintended release. And the sun shades work perfect, no more sunglasses, and instant up when you enter a dark tunnel, very safe. If you're claustrophobic like I am, you will appreciate modular helmets like this Nolan. The latch strap is so much nicer than dealing with the old kind, and is more secure, super easy on/off. The venting is phenomenal. The moment I slid the lever, I felt cool air rushing over the top of my head, and out the back. I feel like I've gone from a yugo to a ferrari, I highly recommend upgrading if you are in an older helmet. Nolan hit the nail with this one, and you will literally "see" why. Great customer service as always with compacc, there was a minor issue with the first helmet sent, they made sure I had a new one in no time, no fuss, no frustration, good stuff. I was able to test fit this helmet at the International Motorcycle Show.
Initial response was this thing is light in comparison to my N102. Significantly lighter.
Fit was amazing in a large, absolutely no hot spots, fit my head perfectly.
The chin bar felt 100 smoother in operation, both swing up and down and latching and unlatching.
New features, you can lock the chin bar up for 3/4 helmet riding, and the sunvisor now locks down, and has a 1 button retraction feature. This one is on my list for replacing the N102!

I love the increased visibility but that also makes more wind noise with the visor open which is how i ride most of the time. also with the extended visor in high wind you can't just open to the first notch as the wind catches it. Seems that visor thickness is less and vibrates in the wind. All in all a good hood.

Pros: Good sun shade, easy to adjust, visor positions actually stay in place
Cons: Chin release is a little tricky in gloves, wind noise higher than other helmets

I've wanted a Nolan N104 since they were introduced and finally bought one. The helmet fits my head shape perfectly. It is a little noisy at speed even with the chin curtain in place, but the sun shade works easily and fits over my prescription glasses. It is great for going in and out of tunnels on a sunny day and dark enough that I haven't needed to use sun glasses under it. The chin release can be a little small and hard to manipulate with heavy gloves, but it fine with thinner ones. The B4 sound system is the real reason to buy this. Integration with the helmet is very smooth and it doesn't look like a stuck on afterthought like most helmet communication systems.

What makes Nolan a Nolan - KF4EBC   KY Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Easy pairing, loud enough for highway speed
Cons: Poor radio reception, flaky software

Without this, a Nolan Helmet is just another midrange helmet. After you learn the basics of the many commands that can be given through the buttons on the helmet, use is easy. Make calls, listen to music from your iPhone, talk to other riders if paired, all while moving at legal highway speed. The sound can be a little lacking in bass, but that could just be my hearing. On the down side, FM radio reception is weak and you can only save stations that it finds on a scan. Even the computer control software will not let you input a frequency and store it to a preset. This is a pain if you want to program stations along a trip route and something that I wish Nolan would fix. It is the only thing that cost it the fifth star.

When I first got this helmet, I had to really loosen up the snap lock for the strap. I was really surprised how badly the visor fogged up. Then I discovered that the visor can actually be cracked open just enough to let more air in. Instructions need a lot of work. The helmet itself. Excellent product and very good in the air. I had very little if no turbulence. I still need to wear earplugs to keep out the wind noise. I was going to get a Schuberth but decided I can't justify the cost. This was an excellent compromise. Fit and finish are excellent. The pivoting chin bar works smooth and flawlessly. Now that I know a few tricks to this helmet, it's definitely growing on me.

I did have a learning curve with the chin strap release as the new one is a two step system and there was some choice words on a very hot day while trying to get it off until I took a closer look. The sun visor works wonderfully and with it inside it allows the front to remain up for full ventilation and still protect the eyes.

My overall opinion this is a great helmetI typically research any high dollar product before I buy it. We found the full face helmets uncomfortable in warm weather and they fogged terribly in cold weather. I do not think you will find any helmet with better field of vision my wife even commented on this. The helmets are snug without being restrictive although occasionally I develop a sore spot on my forehead where the styrofoam sits adjusting the helmet a few degrees either direction foreaft on my head seems to alleviate this. I was going to sand this sharp angle but am going to wait a few more weeks to make any mods to the helmet, I believe the helmets will fit better the more we wear them. The double lock chin bar is easy to maneuver and raise with one hand. I also find the quick release chin strap a plus as opposed to the double d-ring style. I realize there is a balance between wind noise and ventilation. I find the venting on the helmet to be average to minimal. It may be we ride in a more upright position and therefore do not obtain the full benefit of the venturi effect of the rear vents. To compensate, at stop lights or slow moving traffic we raise the face shield in warm weather. For very hot weather at stop lights and when stopped for gas we raise the chin bar. The anti-fog coating is probably working but to some degree the face shield still fogs when you put it on. I am not sure you could fully eliminate this. While traveling fogging does not seem to be a problem. I am waiting although not in any hurry for coolercold weather to see how the helmets perform. As to noise, the helmets are a bit louder than I would have thought even though I left the chinneck skirts in place. I am not sure this is the helmets fault. On several rides I tried to determine the source of the noise. It seems to be combination of the windscreen, engine noise yes Goldwings do make a little...albeit very little, and the slip stream around the riders themselves. Other than wearing ear plugs, I am not sure any helmet could fully eliminate this. I am anxious to try the new wireless Sena 20S headsets that recently came out. I have pre-ordered them but the delivery date keeps slipping hope Jamie is reading this..... I elected not to go with the Nolan but that is another review. Safe Riding

Pros: Light, small shell, wide view
    Cons: anti-fog, ventilation

I have worn this helmet a few times since I received it. The shipping was very quick and the helmet is great. It's very light weight and the wide view is really nice. Being in Houston, all full face helmets get very hot. This one has good ventilation but of course with the humidity here, it could be a little better. The anti-fog visor is pretty standard, works but could also be better. This is by far the best helmet I've purchased and it's well worth the money.

Pros: weight, field of vision, buld quality, mechanism use, quietness
Cons: chin strap, face shield open

i decided to purchase a flip up for convenience. did lots of research. bought the N104 due to weight, features, build quality, quietness and price. as for the weight, it weighs in the same as my fullface Gmax, so doesn't seem to be a head or neck ache because of weight. BTW I am 5'11, 180lbs. very pleased with the field of vision, large opening and i dont have to turn my head so much, good peripheral view. Quietness is better than average. I am pleased when riding with the helmet open. very little wind resistance or noise, and again the view is good, the top does not obscure vision when open. However, riding with ONLY the face shield open is not fun. tremendous wind resistance and buffeting and the shield vibrates like a lawnmower, so i do not ride that way. Wish the 1st detent for the face shield was not so large, would like just a small opening for clearing the shield of fog. I have not used the pin lock yet, but have put it on just to see how it worked. based on previous comments and the concept, i expect good results. dont know how that affects the vision or clarity of the face shield top up and sun shield down, no problem, works great. As others have commented, the nose slot is really big, good for Karl Maldon or Jimmy Durante, but not the average guy It could go a little lower as well, but not a deal breaker. easy to operate openclose mechanism, and it is a solid latching system - so good for safety. It is tight to put on and take off. works best to kind of roll it forward as I lift it off. Padding is comfortable and light weight. havent had to remove to clean, so no comment there. I have considered the NCOM, but i have a sena that works great. HOWEVER, it will NOT fit the N104. Downside is that other riders have to have the Ncom for helmet to helmet communication. It's a bit pricey as well, but i do expect to try out the bluetooth version 4. Fit and fiish are great. i wanted a graphics one, but couldnt find one anywhere in my size LG. My negative - the chin strap. Love the concept and ease of use However, the padding is only as wide as the strap and clasp. in theory, thats great... if the strap never moves from its backing. But our head moves updown and sideways, the strap slides off the padding and digs into my throat. I do not have a large A apple and was very surprised that it bothered me. This could be easily be remedied by a wider padding. Thats my biggest complaint. If it continues to irritate me , i'll look into widening the pad. Overall Excellent helmet for the price point.

Pros: Great Moving Parts, Looks, Large Eyeport, Chin Strap, Pinlock, Ventilation
Cons: Visor Leaks in Rain, Fitts Tight at Cheeks, Sun Shade

Great helmet, but I can only compare it to the inexpensivecheap helmet I bout 7 years prior. I just took it for a 4000 mile ride last week. We went through sleet, frozen fog that was fun, wind, rain, and heat. The flip up works flawlessly. The visor with Pinlock antifog works flawlessly. The chinstrap retention is very easy to use. The vent on the top of the helmet works very well. The sun shade is awesome, but the nose cutout is too large. It is anoying for a little while, but then it just blends in. I use the Sena SMH10 with the remote mic. It was difficult to mount fyi, use popsicle sticks but the helmet has place for the mic, so it works very well and I didn't have to modify the helmet. My head measurements showed that I needed a Large, but had a chance to try one on and it was too small. I went with the XL, but the cheek pads are very tight. It makes eating on the road painful. The only real complaint is that it leaked dripped in from the top of the visor in the rain. This then caused problems with the sun shade because it's up in the helmet where the leak is, getting wet. I still gave it 4 stars, but the leaking visor is really bad.

Cons: Sizing runs slightly small, 4X size not available

I recently purchased a 3X Nolan N104 helmet and it is a very nice product. It has all the features of helmets which cost twice as much, and even more. The finish quality of the Nolan N104 is very impressive, and there is very little not to like about this helmet. Unfortunately, I have a very large head and even the 3X size was justr a bit too small for me because it caused pinching against my fore-head. I have since returned the helmet, but unfortunately, the Nolan N104 is not available in a larger size. If your head is not too large 63 cm, then I can strongly recommend this helmet for both quality and value.

Nice helmet, good fit for me - Ken M Can   MA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Fit, construction, ergonomics
    Cons: fogging at a stop

Excellent helmet so far. Seems worth the extra entry fee. Only a crash test will bear out the true value of this helmet. But I like everything about it. I've been riding in 35-25 degree temps and fogging control is naturally a challenge even with the pin-lock screen in place. This helmet dissipates breath vapor well under way with the face shield down until reaching a traffic signal. But the solution is a simple flip of the face shield up one detent or more at the stop then down as you get under way. Some condensation builds along the bottom edge of the face shield which I occasionally find myself wiping away with a finger. Visibility is excellent. Love the internal drop-down solar shade. I can wear eyeglasses with this arrangement. I've been using a balaclava on the colder days below 0 celsius but generally find the helmet warm enough without. SpringSummer use will be interesting. At that time I expect to find myself removing the face shield and chin curtain for greater airflow. Unlike the Nolan 43e which I purchased and returned, this helmet fits my more oval shaped noggin correctly with even pressure all around. The Nolan N43e is shaped for a more round head shape.

Just a hair from perfect - boldrider   AZ Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Excellent quality, good fit, VPS visor
Cons: chin strap too short, VPS visor too short, Pinlock inner visor anti-fog had creases, and some distortion

This is my second Nolan Flip-up, the first being a N103, which is still serviceable and an excellent helmet. The N104 is better, in that I like the quick stow feature on the sun visor. Just the touch of the release button, and it retracts fully. I have yet to wear the helmet on a long ride, so cannot vouch for comfort after wearing it for several hours straight. My N103 I fitted with earphones, and it made it a bit too tight, causing crushed ear syndrome after three or four hours in the saddle.I like the off-yellow color of this helmet, and think it stands out distinctly for visibility. White helmets are said to be the most visible, but this yellow-orange color is bright and stands out.I strongly favor full face helmets for complete protection, and this flip up, with metal-to-metal latches gives good protection along with the capability of flip up for talking, eating, or drinking, without having to remove the bucket. I also like the flip up for donning and removal while wearing glasses..The inner sun visor is great, especially when riding in changing light conditions, like in and out of shadowed roadways.I have worn Arai, Shoei, and cheaper helmets, but this N104 is the best helmet I have had, and the price I got on sale, along with free shipping made it an easy choice, although my N103 was and is still a good helmet. My only suggestions are that the chin strap be made a bit longer so that it is not quite so tight against my throat, the sun visor be made a bit longer, so the gap at the bottom is smaller, and that the clear visor be made with a notch that allows it to be opened just a crack, rather than the nearly one inch first setting in the N104. The N103 allowed me to just barely crack the visor to let in air, whereas the 104 opens too far on the first setting.I was disappointed with the anti-fog inner visor. It has creases where the moisture-absorbing material was put on poorly, and the visor seems to have distortions that adversely affect vision. I probably will remove this because it is annoying to have somewhat blurry vision with it in place. All in all, this is an excellent helmet, and I am glad I purchased it.

    Cons: Poor paint job.

Bought new N104 helmets for my wife & I. They fit very snug and seem to have better air flow with less wind noise then our old Nolan helmets. I like the internal, retractable sun shade and the overall function of the helmet. They are larger than the old helmets and the two N104 helmets will not fit in our GL1800 trunk as the shell is larger. I tried to close the trunk lid and chipped the paint on one helmet. There is some foreign material dirt in the paint and my impression is the paint on the N104 helmets is not as good as the paint on the older helmets we have. Still easy to open with one hand and great for talking at short stops without having to remove your helmet. Weight is not bad and once they are broken in you can wear them comfortably all day.

Great helmet - New Rider   NC Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: comfort, quiet, modular, quick connect chin strap, sun visor
Cons: Small in front of chin. Chin strap bulky

Sizing is accurate with head measurement. The fit will break-in and become a little looser with time. The modular function is great and easy to use. The sun visor is great and easy to use. The helmet doesn't fog. My eye glasses fogged but the helmet visor did not. Ventilation is good. I don't get too hot when riding. Sound is not loud- although this is my first helmet riding at significant speed so I have nothing to compare it to. The helmet is small around the chin... If I shift my jaw forward I can touch the front of the helmet with my jaw. My face does not touch unless forcing my jaw forward, so in most conditions this doesn't bother me. The click feature of the chin strap is good because its very easy to use and adjust tightness even with gloves on. However I think its a little more bulky than traditional rings and therefor presses into my neck a little... pressing into my trachea as though chocking me a little. I thought it this was going to be a problem when I first tried it on but once adjusting the tightness and the helmet breaking in, it does not bother me. Also there is no metal ring to pass a helmet security bar through if you like to leave your helmet on the bike.

N104 with B4 behind a windshield - Roger W   MA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Fit, Quality, Smooth operation
    Cons: Noisy, Sun shade

I bought this helmet to travel across the country anticipating rain. That was a smart decision. I normally use an open face 34 helmet but rain in the face is painful and dangerous as you can't see.The Nolan worked perfectly in that respect. When the rain started I just flipped down the chin guard and zipped past the bikers waiting under the highway overpasses as I could see perfectly and was in total comfort.I did drive 3200 miles in the helmet from Boston to Seattle in 8 days of July and was very pleased overall. Although the helmet was black and the temp was 90-100 deg F most of the time, I was not uncomfortable with the chin guard raised. When the temp dropped to 70 a few times I flipped down the chin bar and was quite comfortable. With the top vents open the air flow keeps you cool but, frankly, I could not tell the difference when the lower vent was open or closed. I do have a windshield.Although I have avoided full face helmets all my life because I am claustrophobic this helmet solves that problem completely. With the chin bar open it's just like a 34 helmet. With the chin bar closed there is lots of room in front of you and a very wide field of view. Getting the helmet on and off is easy with the chin bar raised but you do have to put your sun glasses on and off while the helmet is on. The chin bar does not catch a lot of wind behind the windshield in the up position and I rode thousands of miles with it up.When down, the wind noise subsides a little and the visibility with the pinlock shield is somewhat distorted but it does the job.I was doubtful at first but I came to love the Microlock2 retention system - much nicer that the double D-ring I've always used. The two disappointments with this helmet were the wind noise and the Visor. I found that the noise was even worse than my 34 Shoei helmet with the chinbar open and about the same with it closed. This is surprising as the helmet fits perfectly and the cushion is well fitted around the ears. The real problem though is the sun visor. The mechanism works perfectly - sliding in place and snapping out. But, the too-large nose cut out is so poorly designed that I found it almost useless. The only time you have both eyes shielded is is if you look directly head. If you look slightly to either side which we are all constantly doing one eye is looking through the nose opening. The effect is very distressing. I ended up using the visor very little. I had significant problems driving into the late afternoon sun because of this. I tilted down the chin bar a little and nodded forward but glare was as issue. The visor also adds significantly to the wind noise with the chin bar open. The B4 installed easily into the helmet and was also easy to set up and use for what I wanted - to monitor the GPS. The FM radio worked fairly well too. However, the wind noise made listening to music impossible from the FM radio or my wired MP3 player.

So I bought the B4 which is an integrated comm system for the helmet. I was hoping that it would do all the Chatterbox would do plus have a radio nice. Well the BT phone pairing works and the radio is good six presets. All is good EXCEPT the B4 isn't pairing with the media player in my Galaxy S3. Nada, no music or GPS directions unless I use the 3.5 jack and wired connection.I think the Samsung is not A2DP compatible. Correct me if I'm wrong. I will try using an A2DP transmitter adapter with the phone and pair that to the B4 to see if it works. Otherwise this would have been a killer communicator for me.

Pros: Excellent fit and visibility - flip down dark interior shield - neck wind guard - ease of opening and closing chin guard
Cons: Difficult to put on - sometimes I don't get the chin guard locked down - ratchet closure instead of double d ring

I really like this helmet. I moved from a full face to modular just because it is more convenient at the gas pump, convenience store, toll booth, etc. My old HJC had air currents that made my eyes continually water no mater how I adjusted the vents and the new Nolan is much better - no more watery eyes I wear hearing aids and it is very difficult to spread the helmet wide enough not to activate the hearing aid switches for my in the ear aids. My ear top lobes also get folded down over my ear when I don the helmet and I have to work to unfold them after it is on. Once on it is the correct fit for my head shape. I also have difficulty adjusting the chin strap so that it doesn't dig in. I find the bulky ratchet mechanism too large for a comfortable fit even with the excellent padding that is there. Visibility - Visibility - Visibility - I chose the cab yellow to be seen and it works. I have noticed a few other riders with the same color and they really show up to me and I am hoping that auto drivers see them and me much more readily than with other colors or that they see me at all. The most obvious feature of the N104 is the large opening, which goes of course with a large shield. This is a nice feature - visibility is excellent. However, if you like to ride with the shield up, you need to have a very good windshield or the large face-shield will act as a sail. On my bike, the vibration was so bad that it felt like my eyeballs were shaking. I was able to adjust my wind protection, and the helmet is usable. The helmet is on the small side - a Large fits like a Medium. The padding feels somewhat rough compared to high-quality helmets like Shoei. The mechanical features work very well.Overall, this is a good helmet - I am not convinced that it should cost as much as it does. I'd recommend it with reservations.

Cons: Poor vents, drop down shade isn't adjustable and doesn't go down far enough, break-in time long

Second Nolan for both my wife and I. Must say we thought after reading the reviews and write-ups that this helmet would be better than it is. If you are behind a windscreen you might want something else, old Nolans were 10 times better venting. Face shield only has one click option on the low end for part way opening, not enough. Really like the inside drop down shade but for both of us it needs to go down at least 12 more, it takes a long time to get use to seeing through the bottom edge of the shade. One button push for shade retraction makes it easy but I don't see it lasting very long with everyday use. Every helmet takes awhile for breakin, we both have thin faces but the cheek pads on these are way to tight. After 10 hours mine is starting to feel like it is part of me. On the positive, lighter than before and I can feel it, way better in the buffeting dept. The larger face opening is sweet. Noise might be slightly better if at all. Quality is high. Price through Competition Accessories is great plus they are SUPER fast. For the money my dislikes are things I am more than willing to put aside. Just wish the venting was better.

Nice helmet...sure fits differently than the N90 - Oneydee   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Attractive design, Wide eyeport, good ventilation, comfortable and quiet for a modular
Cons: Snug fit fore-aft, VPS shield nose cutout too big - interferes with vision when down

I haven't spent much time yet with the helmet but can tell that it is a quality lid with many design features engineered in. I would caution anyone coming off of an N90 to try a 104 on first before buying as the two helmets fit night and day differently. I have a long fore-aft head and my chin makes contact with the chin bar on the 104 where it did not on the 90. Moving up a size helped but I am concerned now that the helmet liner may pack in and the helmet will be too large for me down the road. One thing for sure that I don't care for is the design of the VPS inner sun shield. The nose cutout is basically a large square notch taken out of the shield. It is so large that I find it right in my line of sight at times and a distraction to being able to see clearly ahead when the shield is deployed. The paintfinish is top-notch and the chin bar locking mechanism seems robust and well designed. Overall this is a great choice in a 2012 modular helmet. Moving up from an HJC, G-Max, etc. the rider will notice a quality improvement right away.

Cons: Shield detent positionforce, shield fogging, wind noise.

I used a Nolan N100E for several years before buying the N104, so I have a pretty good standard of comparison. Overall quality is excellent. I thought I'd like the internal sunvisor, but after about 8,000 miles I LOVE IT. It is SO NICE not to have to screw around with sunglasses anymore. The internal visor provides better coverage and stays cleaner than sunglasses do, and I found the tint to be sufficiently dark even while riding into the sun on the desert and in the mountains. The new one-handed chinguard latch control is an improvement over the N100's 2-handed design, which over time became troublesome when trying to open if it was NOT on my head it was always easy to release or close while worn. The N104 has a larger and re-shaped viewport. The Lexan shield quality is excellent in terms of clarity, lack of distortion, and ease of removalinstallation. The internal suspension seems an improvement especially in terms of allowing air circulation. The N104 is 40g lighter than the N100 and quite comfortable even on 800 mile days. The new ventilation controls are easy to use and the ventilation itself seems slightly more effective than on the N100. The ratchet-style strap buckle is essentially unchanged and needed no improvement it's far more convenient than double D-rings. However... My biggest gripe is about the shield detent positions. The shield can either be fully closed using the pin-lock, which definitely keeps it securely closed, or resting on the pin-lock, which is almost completely ineffective in terms of allowing more airflow, or open at one of 3 detents. On the N100, the first detent left a gap of 16mm at the centerline, which was an excellent option when you needed to prevent fogging or just wanted a bit of fresh air. The N100 shield would stay open in this position, even at freeway speeds on a sport-touring bike that has essentially no windshield. But on the N104, the first detent leaves a gap of over 50mm, which is too much in many situations, and furthermore it will NOT stay open at high speed or in a significant headwind at least not without a big windshield. Adding the weight of the fog-resistant inner visor would increase the tendency to self-close. Another big gripe, which is related to the detent issue, is how fog-prone this shield is. I've been using helmets with Lexan shields for 30 years and this is absolutely the worst in terms of fogging if there's even a slight rain or humiditycool temperature. Yes, an anti-fog inner visor IS provided with the helmet but a it seems like a hassle to install, b adds weight to the shield which is a problem on a couple counts, c is bound to reduce overall clarity of the viewport, and d why is the fogging so bad in the first place Finally there's wind noise which is a battle I've been fighting for years. On my bike BMW R1100RS I've cut the shield down and repositioned it so, if I sit up very straight which is less comfortable than the forward slouch I prefer, the helmet rim is up out of the turbulent zone. The N100 was fairly decent in this regime, though earplugs were still necessary. The N104 is definitely noisier in a basic way, even when completely out of the turbulence, and in addition the slot for the sliding control for the inner visor adds yet more noise immediately next to the left ear. After buying this helmet I noticed the Gmax GM54 which is also a flip-face, inner sunvisor-equipped helmet but has the inner visor control along the crown of the helmet. That would be less convenient in terms of arm motion required, but would probably reduce effective noise at ear-level. The GM54 is considerably cheaper, which does raise a bit of question about quality, but it has a lot of nice features and appears to be getting uniformly excellent reviews but unfortunately, still has a DD ring strap.

Good Helmet - Bruce   MO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Fit, low wind noise
Cons: No available communications system other than Bluetooth

Have the helmet and it is definitely a good improvement on the older versions. Wind noise is down and the visor shade is inside the clear visor so it is protected. However, don't expect to add a J&M Comm unit to it unless you are willing to send it to them for a custom install Per J&M, Way too much liability involved in that scenario whereby we cannot tightly control the quality of the headset install on the N104 but not for older helmets of Bluetooth.

Nice features but noisy - R1200GSA   MS Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Nice features. Wide view
Cons: Noisy, plastic trim, weak shield retentsion

Overall the helmet is worth the money. Fit is kind of tight initially but has broken in nicely. The plastic trim on the lower right pulled out every time the helmet was put on or removed. I was able to adjust the padding which helped with fit and the trim issue. The helmet is noisy but no more so than other Nolans I have owned. Shoei is quieter. Love the ventilation and the pop down sunvisor is awesome. The faceshield retention points are weak, especially full open. Constantly slams shut. Helmet weight feels about average. All the functional bits work seamlessly except for the faceshield glitch. I would buy this helmet again despite the nits.

N104 - Love it or try again - NeoConWinger   MD Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Paintfinish, fit, function
    Cons: Fit, function, air, noise

First let me say that I read all the reviews I could find. What did it get me 5 people love it and 5 people hate it. So no offense but that leaves me with nothing.Paint What can be said BMWBenz automotive grade. This came out of the box with a shine. And more slippery than silicone on a non-stick pan. Excellent. But with that said I would settle for a sloppy appearance and better function. Fit Many people panned the 'pressure' it puts on certain areas of the head. But I say one mans pressure is another mans snug. Very subjective. I do not think you can have a proper snug fit without pressure somewhere. If you do not have snug then you have a helmet that may be too big for you. Plus Nolan only made 2 outer shells and this is bound to affect some one.I feel it is tight but may loosen up with time. And I wear glasses so...I will feel pressure behind the ears I have to deal with on any helmet.Face shield Fine closure but could use a notch between closed and quarter open. My old Nolan 100 had a smaller first notch.Sun shield I like it. Yes it has an annoying notch cutout for your nose. But I wear bi-focals so I am used to looking at and thru lines. Not an issue for me.Air Circulation Well it is a motorcycle helmet. No one seems to have this right. First I must state that I ride a Goldwing with a high windscreen. I may not get the best advantage of the aerodynamics of this helmet. For me this is a hot helmet. That is why I would love a smaller open notch in the face shield mechanism. But also understand that this will ruin the water tight seal at the top. So you can't have both. On a hot, rainy day I will fry. Simple enough.Ratchet Micro-notch retention strap Having had a Nolan 100 I was already used to this and I like it. No complaints.Noise Level It is no Shoei that is for sure. But it IS a modular and that breeds a certain compromise in any helmet. I feel that my old N100 was quieter with the shield closed than this but I have no problem wearing earplugs as you should do anyway. I rate it a comparable.Sadly the problem with any of these expensive items we so love for our toys is that you can not try them out before buying them. A fit in the dealer showroom is not going to tell you what this helmet is going to feel like after 5 hours on the road. Same goes for the 500 to 700 custom seats that so many makers love to sell. Every seat feels good for 15 minutes. But ask me again after 8 hours in the hot sunSo I like the Nolan 104 and after sweating in it for 3 hours I guess I can not in good conscience return it. But I do not think it is so bad that I can not live with its quirks. And they may work out over time just as I came to like my N100. I will keep it and I feel I have a fine helmet at a fair price. And the only reason for a helmet is to keep the police happy and help save my noggin in the event I become suddenly separated from the bike...here is to hoping I never try out it's impact capabilities which are also very good by the way. Hope this helps some one.

    After first weekend
I put in a couple of hundred miles this weekend with the new helmet and have the following impressions.
    Pros
    Quality build
    Great ventilation
    Easy on off shield
    Reasonably quiet,
    Positive lock on the faceshield
    Popdown visor
    Cons
Fit is kind of tight for a Charlie Brown head like me. Not as tight as the Xlite was.
Shield causes mild buffet when full open

I replaced a N102 with this helmet so very please so far. Hopefully the break-in will make the fit a little more comfortable. Would buy again.

Runs a size small - Don   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Excellent quality materials and workmanship. Low wind noise. Great peripheral visibility
    Cons: None except size

Size L is more like an M. My chin touches the chin guard and almost take my ears off when removing it. Too bad because it is great helmet otherwise. Would like to replace, but disposed of box and stickers, so guess I have to Craig List it.I also have AFX full and AFX 34, both of which fit perfectly. I'm giving it 3 stars only because of the sizing and that I can't exchange it. Otherwise, it's a 5.

    Pros: Wider Shield, Padding
Cons: Fit and feel, Size not right

Let me say off the bat that I'm a N102 owner and have been for a few years. I really liked the N102 from day one. It was true to size, quite snug in a good way, solid, and fairly good wind noise reduction. So to find the N104 on sale was a no brainer. Ordered the med. after insuring my measurements of my noggin worked. Medium was way too tight and reordered the large, still a little too tight as well I found fit and finish although face screen was wider I found the shade screen was uncomfortable to operate and the entire helmet felt creaky and and somewhat poorly made than the 102. I really wanted to like this helmet because of my previous experience with Nolan, but can't justify the cost to not be happy with it, so have sent both back and will keep looking

Didn't work for me. - beauxarth   CO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Lightweight, Quality Construction and Materials
    Cons: Noise, Fitment

There is a seam in the lining that runs directly across the tops of my ears. After seventy miles my ears hurt so bad I had to take the helmet off. It seemed to fit alright otherwise. Not quite as noisy as my old CY-MAX, but still has quite a bit of wind noise. It fits my wife without the ear problem, and she likes the reduction in weight, so I won't return it.

Nice Helmet But... - Colorado Rider   CO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Light Weight, High Visibility, Great Latching System. Great Visor with Pinlock, Modular portion, Sun Visor
Cons: Chin touches chin bar, Noisy in the wind

Lets start with the Cons so we can finish with the good.I chose this helmet because I was able to try one on at a local shop and it was the only one that had room in front of my chin. The one I received seems smaller. The fit on my head is good but slightly moving my chin forward makes me touch the chin bar. I was hoping to add the N-com but there is no room to fit the microphone. This helmet is made with two shells and the large is the biggest made with the smaller shell so that may be my problem. I cannot put the helmet on or take it off with the chin bar lowered. The opening is smaller than my head which I worry a little that if I had to use this helmet that first responders would not know how to open it to get it off without actually pulling too much on my neck. I read reviews that this helmet was quiet and I would say it is anything but quiet. I have never used earplugs riding since 1980's and my first ride even on city streets was so loud I detoured to my local shop to buy some. With earplugs this helmet is a little louder than my HJC CL-16 or older Shoei RF700 full face helmets without earplugs. With that said, it seems most riders that wear modular helmets have bikes with pretty good wind protection. I ride a Suzuki Katana with a sport touring screen but with higher bars the wind is right in my chest so I could see this helmet being quieter on bikes with good wind protection. After several hundred miles the modular portion of the helmet seems a little looser than new but not too bad to be concerned of it failing. Here is the good stuff. With everything written in the Con section, I love this helmet for the features I was looking for. For the price I think it is a great helmet. I wish it was as quiet as my Shoei full face but when it comes down to it, I have not worn my Shoei since getting this helmet. I now wear earplugs though. I went on a couple hundred mile ride in temps in the low to high 30's and never had a problem with fogging even with this helmet being tight quarters using the included pinlock visor . I love the latch system for securing the helmet over the D rings. Everything on this helmet is glove on friendly. I love the sun visor and its use is very intuitive and works great. Some reviews complained about the visor not coming down far enough so looking at speedo causes your view to be under the visor which some people did not like. I found this to be true but I would rather have this than a sun visor that hits the bridge of my nose. The modular portion is easy to use and I love it. I use a KLIM hydration pack that I keep in my tank bag and can use it easily by flipping up the chin bar my other helmets could fit the drink valve under the chin to drink but too tight on this helmet. The close fit at the bottom of the helmet keeps the actual cold wind from blowing into the helmet. I have only ridden once with it warm enough to try the vents and it seems they work well. I wear a head sock to keep my helmet liners cleaner so I cannot say that I felt air from the vents going over my head. The visor is very easy to remove though with the sun visor you will probably only due it to replace a scratched one or to give a good cleaning. I chose the Cab Yellow for visibility and can say that I have had comments from other riders that between my hi vis jacket and the yellow helmet they saw me in traffic from 500 yards away. All said and done I am happy with this helmet. There may be a modular that is quieter but from what I can tell it would be in the 700 dollar range. If money were no issue I would try one but at the price point, I plan on having this helmet for a while.

Cons: Sizing provided is wrong, to small.

This helmet is nice but the Shoei Neotec is better. I bought both and the Shoei I the winner, hands down. I bought the Nolan and followed their sizing guide, it was off by 2 sizes. The material inside feels cheap compared to the Shoei. The face shield is ok but is just like a 100 helmet. Step up and by the Shoei, you won't regret it.

Nice helmet but did not fit the shape of my head - Al   VA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Well made, clean design, good value, built in communications available
Cons: Doesn't fit my head. No way to try it on beforehand.

I really wanted this helmet to work for me and the price was very reasonable but it was just too tight for the shape of my head. Extreme claustrophobia. I had the same problem with the Shuberth. The Shoei is very comfortable for me and what I will likely end up purchasing but it is a lot more expensive and does not have the advantages of the built in communication system.

    Pros: Good Price
    Cons: Fit

I bought this helmet as a replacement for my Shoei RF-1000. This was my first modular helmet. My wife has worn Nolans for years. The finish of this helmet was excellent. Lots of features. Almost too many for my taste. I thought it was loud, and I always wear a custom fitted ear plugs. The fit was a little tight on my forehead where as the Shoei had always been a perfect fit. It's a head shape thing no doubt. My wife was going to replace her Nolan with a new helmet and we had intended to buy the N-Com system. In the end, I returned this helmet because of the fit and we purchased two new N90S Nolans and the matched N-Com system.

Pros: Designed to fit in the helmet. Controls are easy to use with gloves.
Cons: Battery doesn't last long, Speakers distort at high volume, somewhat tricky to install, system not intuitive.

Overall, this really isn't a bad system. It fits in the helmet quite nicely, and looks factory. The FM radio receiver is a nice feature, though I rarely use it. The controls are easy to manipulate with gloves on, much nicer than the UClear 100 I have on my other helmet. On the down side, it can be a bit tricky to install. The instructions aren't really that clear on this. Somehow, I ended up snapping off one half of the FM antenna while installing it. I can still pick up FM signals though, but I'm sure I've lost a bit of the radio's sensitivity. If you travel and have this system, make sure you bring the charger The battery life is not that long. I commute to school 75 mi RT and it seems to be good for about 3 trips. Also, there is no loss of signal shutdown on this system. My UClear will shut itself off after 15 mins without any signals to it. Pairing it up with a bluetooth device wasn't too problematic. I was able to pair it with my iPhone pretty quickly. I did have a problem initially, but the instructions were clear on re-pairing it. Works very well over bluetooth. I can stream musicgps directions nicely. I haven't tried makingreceiving calls on it yet, but I don't think I'll have any problems. The only other complaints I have are the controls and the speakers. It took me at least two days to get used to the system's menu. The instructions are not really clear the first time, but if you play with it a time or two you get the hang of it. Since I ride with earplugs, I have the volume all the way up. Unfortunately, that will give you some distortion at the top end. Bass seems just fine though. If these speakers went to 11, it would be a much better system. Am I happy with it Yes. Would I purchase it again Most likely yes. I like the fact that I don't have some big honking control unit hanging off one side of my helmet. I can put up with the less than stellar sound quality because I really wanted to hear GPS directions. Music and phone calls were always a secondary concern. Of course, your mileage may vary.....

Pros: It fit and looked good
Cons: It arrived in pieces and felt ...cheap

I opened up the box within minutes of its arrival. The visor was hanging off its mount. No big deal I thought, I'll just put it back together. I compared the spring with the other side and amazingly, it was a different size. I couldn't get the visor to re-attach I had my hands all over this helmet even before I got to try it out on the bike. Never made it that far.I called CS and they were great I told them my experience and after holding the helmet for a good long while, I decided that it just didn't feel right. Too light...not strong enough to do its job. I got strange parts that don't fit. Poor shipping inspection. What else is wrong with this helmet, I thought I decided to upgrade to the Shoei Neotec. I was already on the fence between the two helmets and I originally cheaped out opting for the Nolan. I won't do that again. I paid the man and the Shoei helmet arrived the following day thanks to me and the Shoei disti living in the same State Calif. Sending back the Nolan was painless. CS emailed me an RMA, I printed it out and drove down to the local Fed X-Kinko's to mail CompAcc back their Nolan helmet. They can keep it. The refund arrived on my debit card within a few days of them receiving back the Nolan. No problems whatsoever. I feel very confident that CompAcc stands by its products and provides really good customer service. I will not hesitate to buy from them again. Great retailer.

The build quality of this helmet is excellent. Much easier to change shields. than with other Nolans I have owned. Otherwise I am not happy at all with my purchase. I would send it back, but my date dropped it to the road on a ride yesterday, sctatching it a little. Size and fit - it is comfortable but runs a little big in comparison to my N102 of the same size. I have an Arai Profile XL head, that is, long oval. A XXL in this helmet is very close to being too big for me.The chinbar mechanism is great and has a high quality feel to it. The face shield will not stay up by itself very well when going down the road. The internal sun shield just plain sucks. It is either up or down.and it does not go down far enough. There is a large cutout in it at the nose that is totally unnecessary and distracting. The eye port is huge, so huge that the sunlight becomes an issue, there is no shielding from the helmet itself, no eyebrow effect. The darkest tinted faceshield avialiable is just barely tinted, almost no effect in the bright sun. Noise level is about the same as my N102, which is bad. Earplugs are a necessity. The racheting chinstrap is a step backward IMHO from the N102. It is smaller and easy to work, but it is uncomfortable under my chin, this may be due to misadjustment, but time will tell.I am going to keep this helmet for a while and see if I get used to it, but for right now I am very unhappy with it.

Do NOT buy, badly designed - Carlos Cardona   Recommended by Reviewer: No
    Pros: Nolan quality
Cons: Faceshield CANNOT be cracked slightly open

I returned this helmet after one VERY HOT ride The Faceshield CANNOT be cracked slightly open, it is either halfway open or closed. With my Nolan 100 you have several more opening positions for the faceshield, allowing you to get exactly how much air you need a crack, a little open, etc. The 104's shield is either closed or halfway open which is uncomfortable at speed. Maybe this would be OK under 45 degrees, but anything above is torture

Bad quality DANGEROUS helmet - David K   CA Recommended by Reviewer: No
    Pros: Good Air Ventilation
Cons: Poor quality liner, Dangerous design of lowerd chin bar for larger view of shield

I Bought many helmets during last ten yrs of my riding career and N104 is the WORST and Most DANGEROUS helmet I have ever bought... I wish I could return this but wife threw out the original box and I'm too lazy to argue withe the seller. In order to have a better view through the shield, they have lowered the chin protection significantly which I think would break my collar bone even in a slow highside accident. The chin bar is so low that when I turn my head side to side, it hits my shoulders. At the same time it hits the release button of the shade which startled me several time. Any movement of the head also hits the collar bone. They definitly reduced the wind noise coming through the neck area by enlarging the chin bar and neck liner, however the high pitched wind noise coming through the windshield is greater than any other cheap helmet. The lining of the helmet is poor quality. The quality of the lining is thin and seems like it's for bicycle helmet. The chin strap device is made out of hard plastic and metal and it irritates my neck so I end up loosening the strap which again is dangerous. I would never recommend this HELLMET to anyone No wonder it was on sale for 100 less even for a brand new model.
