Video Reviews
Hey guys this is Reuben with Competition Accessories Welcome to our premium modular helmets guide this video is going to encompass these four helmets that i have in front of me that range from around 450$ all the way up to 700$ plus so again premium modular motorcycle helmets here that were going to talk about and hopefully we can narrow it down for you if your in the market for a new modular. There's some key differences between these all of them are fantastic helmets very well made and premium features if your not familiar with modular helmets basically that means it just has a flip up chin bar , your going to be able to raise that up out of the way if you wear eye glasses that's a huge advantage you can easily get your glasses on and off . All of these helmets accommodate glasses very well they also work very well if you need to talk to somebody at a light or a gas station you can easily raise that up and have a face to face conversation with somebody if your a smoker if you want to take a drink with your helmet on you can do all of those things with a modular helmet so convenience factor is really high with a helmet that is in this price range obviously you paying for a lot of comfort features and premium features that your just not getting with less expensive modular helmets the fit and finish of each of these is very very good and i just want to stress that each one of these helmets is good each in its own right and were going to kind of run though these from my left to my right from least expensive to most expensive and kind of break down the differences between the four that i have in front of me. So first here on my left , to your right , is the Nolan N104 now this is the only helmet that doesn't have a composite shell it has a polycarbonate lexane shell its manufactured in two shell sizes these were made in Italy again its a nice fit and finish . One of my favorite things about the Nolan is it keeps the chin bar very very tight and low when you look at how the shield mechanism and the chin bar mechanism opens and functions in fact if i close this down and open it again if you focus on this pivot right here you'll see when you open it up it actually starts to raise and then it slides back into place and then it has a nice secure detente at the raised position its called an elliptical pivot instead of being on a single access raising up like most other modular helmets this one actually keeps it nice and low and then there's actually a chin bar lock on the side so if i click that in that actually going to prevent the chin bar from coming down at all . So if you like to ride with the chin bar in the raised position at all and i know all motorcyclists if you wear modular around town or if its hot out a lot of the time you'll keep the chin bar raised. A lot of manufactures actually don't recommend that just for safety reasons obviously you don't want that chin bar to accidentally fall down but well talk real world here i know a lot of you guys going to be wearing modulars are going to ride with the chin bar open. This one is going to prevent it from accidentally coming down on you, even with this unlocked it still has a very nice locked detente if you want to close it you will have to apply some pressure to move down and your going to have to click down into place. All the helmets up here are going to have metal to metal latches obviously as a safety feature you don't want the chin bar to open on accidentally open all the chin bars up here have very secure latching systems I'm not going to elaborate on that on every single helmet here . We do have a full helmet brake downs of each of these helmets so if you do actually want to see how the latches work and hear more about the features of each of these helmets you'll have a chance to watch those videos at the end of this one. To talk some more about the chin bar mechanism on the Nolan though its a little different in that there's a two stage operation there's a tab on the base that you can pull forward its just going to get that other one to come out squeeze those together that's what actually releases the latch. So its a two stage procedure to get that released and that's just an extra safety feature that's going to help keep the chin bar down and secure in case of an accident . You have a European style ratcheting strap on the Nolan these are nice and handy because you can get them on and off with gloves on and that's infinitely a nice feature just going to adjust the strap to where its comfortable to you and then it will just ratchet into place and some Americans are a little leary of these but they are incredibly strong or at least as strong as the D ring system that's found on other helmets that were used to here in the US but its actually very common over in Europe. Fully removable interior on the Nolan talk about the Ncom system briefly they have a Ncom communication system you can remove this base plate here pop that off and install the Ncom system and you'll easily be able to integrate their communication system with the helmet here though its going to integrate very cleanly. It has nice openings for a speaker pockets and plenty of room in the chin bar for a mic. So Definitely a great option for those of you running a communication system , and last but not least internal sun visor there's a slider on this slide that forward its going to deploy the internal sun shield it does have an anti fog coating on it and its spring loaded so you click that red tab and its just going to raise that up nice and smoothly out of the way. Pin lock lens is included with the Nolan so for the external face shield anti fog is accomplished with the anti fog insert. In fact while were talking about pin lock all of these helmets up here include a pin lock ready shield with the pin lock insert included in the box . So you are paying more for these types of helmets but you do get all those types of features included . Ventilation system last but not least on the Nolan is pretty ingenuitive the way that they have designed it they have a single slider up here on the top , and the first position is meant to crack this upper air scoop , fully released all the way to the back it is not only going to open this air scoop here but it also opens the brow vent at the front of the helmet . You'll see that they integrate a spoiler into the shell itself and then there is an exhaust port out the back to help warm air escape out the back of this Nolan . Again the Nolan N104 is going to retail for 449$ you'll have to jump on our website to see our current pricing is we are able to discount the Nolan with a pretty healthy discount but you can jump on there and see what those go for currently on our site. So for retail price ten dollars more 459$ for the HJC which is the next one to the left here. This is the RPHA Max which is brand new this one just came out it was just released and we are really impressed with it it has their premium integrated matrix shell its actually manufactured in three different shell sizes these ones are made in Korea but you see a lot of design influence over from the RPHA 10 which is their premium road race helmet or the RPS 10 which you might be familiar with so really top of the line features coming out in this helmet very aerodynamic design HJC uses extensive wind tunnel testing and development of both the aerodynamics of the shell and the ventilation system for the RPHA max very very nicely done helmet. Ill place this helmet on the scale here you can see its very light weight 3.6 pounds that's almost as light in fact that lighter then a lot of full faced helmets and its almost as light as its full faced brother the RPHA10 . So definitely a very well constructed helmet . Chin bar opens with a simple pull of the tab on the bottom that rotates up on a single access but it does stick up a bit further then the Nolan which all of the other helmets up here are going to be in that boat. You have what they call their cool forever interior fabric its moisture wicking fully removable customizable you can change out different sized cheek pads you have pockets for speakers on the sides here that should accommodate just about any kind of communication system standard D ring and chin strap for the closure . This does have an internal sun visor much like the rest of these helmets here this one is deployed with a slider on the top . This is just going to slide forward and lock into place and you can see it lowers down there it does have an anti fog coating on it , and then there's a button on the top here you press that and its going to retract that up . You might have noticed like the Nolan this one is also damped so its not a jarring sudden spring loaded motion its more of a smooth nice retraction. This helmet includes a max vision pin lock shield. You can see the blue outline on the face shield here its nice and large that's how the outline of this pin lock is going to sit on the shield so your going to get unrestricted vision out of the helmet here . And the pin lock insert if your not familiar with it creates a duel pane effect you have an interior shield a small bead of air and your actual external face shield when you install the pin lock insert and that gives you some insulation between the outside air and the inside . It really does a fantastic job at reducing fog , and again all of these helmets include the pin lock insert . Moving on to the right here you have the Neotec . The Neotec is made by Shoei and if your familiar with motorcycle helmets you've probably heard of Shoei they have been around for quite a while they are made in Japan they have an advanced integrated matrix 5 ply shell its manufactured in three different shell sizes fit and finish again very nice what you would expect from a Shoei . You finally get fully removable interior our previous modular helmets did not offer , internal sun visor is deployed on this helmet with a simple slider found on the left side of the shell here. Slide that up here to deploy it no springs or buttons on this guy its just a simple slider very easy and intuitive to use and if you know where that slider is you can get that up and down very easily . That is anti fog coated you have a multi density liner which is the actual foam inside of this helmet which is going to progressively absorb impact and its also allows them built to let in air channels though out the EPS liner so that this top vent can actually function as a ram air scoop to slide it back and that's actually going to draw air down inside the helmet and then you have an exhaust vent on the back here. This Shoei retails for 648$- 662$ so right around that 650 dollar range . There are graphics available that run for a little bit more then that but the solids are right around that 650 dollar range and we actually are able to provide a little bit of a discount on the Shoei as well. Last but not least we have the Schuberth C3 up here on the right . The Schuberth is made in Germany retails for 699$ and there are no discounts available on these guys, they charge a premium on them but it is worth every penny according to those who buy the Schuberth C3. First thing to point out its an extremely clean shell design, if you look at the back here there's no extra spoilers no extra vents on the back its just a very clean shell design which means its going to be the quietest helmet of the bunch here and that's really what Schuberth really prides themselves on its been wind tunnel tested and actually proven to be extremely quiet at freeway speeds so if noise is something that bothers you if your on a longer ride it gives you kind of a fatigue if you want to use a communication system so having a quieter helmet will help you enjoy that a little bit better the Schuberth with a lot of little design features just to get a very quiet ride . In fact if you look at the top of the face shield here you may notice these little triangle shapes here that is what they call tribulaters. Rather then having just a simple face shield that is just smooth and flat that would create a lot of turbulence around the seal here . These tribulaters actually create a bit of a swirl as it comes over the shell of the helmet , so instead of creating extra wind noise around that seal its actually going to promote wind to go up and over the shell of the helmet so it keeps the noise nice and low . Intake vent is a single vent at the top here and then you have a chin bar vent and again no exit vents on the back of the shell but it does create an area for the air to flush out at the base of the neck , so probably not as aggressively vented as for some of the helmets up here but again your getting a very quiet ride with very tight tolerances how the chin bar integrates with the rest of the helmet its a very nice tight and secure fit. Another thing that's unique to the Schuberth if you get it open here they have their anti roll off system which is an additional chin strap so you have your standard chin strap that has a ratchet enclosure much like the Nolan , and this is a German helmet your seeing that European influence in this one , but rather then just coming up and connecting inside the helmet like most do , it also has an additional strap that runs inside around the base of the helmet and you may have noticed there are a couple of rivets on the back here . That is what they call their anti roll off system, So if you were to go down and hit this helmet is not going to be able to roll forward off of your head or out of place. As this chin bar tightens against your neck this rear strap is going to pull tight keep the helmet in place its an additional safety design that Schuberth has used in their design. They also have a very rounded chin bar, so that if you were to go down and hit your chin on your chest its a very round shape so its not going to create an additional point of injury in that area . Ill show you how the internal sun visor works on the Schuberth , so again a very similar design to the Shoei just a simple slider that's here on the side, slide that back to release the shield down and into your vision and then slide it back to get it up and out of the way. Again that's also anti fog coated, it includes the pin lock insert so your getting all the features that your getting with the other helmets plus your also getting additional safety features. Last but not least on the Schuberth there's a couple of things , first of all the interior out of all of these as you would expect for a 700 dollar helmet is the most plush and the softest and just looking at it on camera you will be able to tell its a very premium fabric very comfortable its what they call Techskin design to keep you comfortable in cool weather and warm weather its cool max so its moisture wicking , its anti bacterial its very comfortable fully removable and then another thing you can do on the Schuberth that is really neat. You can remove the neck roll and replace it with the Schuberth communication system it actually integrates the communication system into the neck roll of the helmet. So your going to get buttons on the neck roll you don't have to attach anything externally to add bulk or weight or wind noise its just integrated right into the neck roll it works really really well and again if price is no object for you this is the top of the line helmet for you that your looking at right here. Definitely a very nice helmet again it retails at 699$ and there is no discounts available on the Schuberth line but that's what your going to get for 699 dollars there are some other graphics available with the Schuberth that will give you a little bit more as far as solids for price is 699. Now real quick i didn't have a chance to weigh all of these and while i do that I'm going to talk about the fit. First of all the Schuberth is going to be the lightest one up here talking about this being a 699 dollar helmet it is 3.55 pounds . If weight is something that is of concern to you weather you have neck issues that cause issues for you or if you just want to have a helmet that isn't going to cause fatigue when your on the bike for extended amounts of time the Schuberth is the lightest one up here. As far as fit goes i would say between the Nolan and the Schuberth these are going to be the most round oval shape that we have up here on the table, and then when you look at the Shoei and the RPHA max these are going to be the more intermediate oval or a slightly longer oval shape between the three of these. As for sizing goes these are all a size large I've tried all of them on they all fit true to size i wouldn't need to go up or down a size in any of them although i will say the opening for the Nolan is the tightest out of them pull the helmet on and off over your ears the Nolan is a little bit tighter but again that's going to give you a better seal on the base of your neck to prevent wind noise. The Schuberth weighed 3.55 pounds , by contrast the Shoei is going to be heaviest on the table is 4.05 pounds now and that's a half pound difference try and keep that in mind. And then the RPHA Max again very light weight almost on the same weight as the Schuberth 3.6 pounds so very impressive design on the part of the HJC. And then the Nolan up here 3.8 pounds it kind of splits the difference between the others . Hopefully that helps you narrow it down a bit between these top four modular helmets that we offer at Competition Accessories , they are all fantastic options just pick one that strikes your fancy as far as looks which ever one that fits your budget the best and bare in mind that comfort is something that can be bought that is something that is appreciated on a longer ride i know how a lot of you guys ride year round long commutes long tours you know year long around the world trips your going to want something that is extremely comfortable that you can endure wearing for days and days on end and be very comfortable and not have something that's a distracting or uncomfortable for you.
HEY GUYS THIS IS REUBEN AT COMPETITION ACCESSORIES WELCOME TO OUR FIRST LOOK AT THE NOLAN N104 NOLAN IS A PREMIUM HELMET MANUFACTURER THIS HELMET IS MANUFACTURED IN ITALY ITS ONE OF THE NEWEST MODULAR HELMETS ON THE MARKET I HAVE BEEN REALLY IMPRESSED WITH ITS FEATURES IT REALLY PROVIDES YOU WITH A TON OF PREMIUM HELMET FEATURES FOR A PRICE THATS FAIRLY COMPETITIVE WHEN YOU COMPARE WHAT OTHER HELMETS ARE OFFERING OUT THERE. THE FIRST THING THAT STRUCK ME WHEN I FIRST LOOKED AT THIS HELMET IS THE GIGANTIC EYE PORT THIS THING HAS A HUGE FACE SHIELD TOP TO BOTTOM VISION IS GOING TO BE VERY UNRESTRICTED AND YOU HAVE A NICE PERIPHERAL UNRESTRICTED VIEW OUT OF THE HELMET AS WELL SO YOU GOT PLENTY OF VISION OUT OF THE HELMET THE FACE SHIELD DOES HAVE A LOCKING MECHANISM RIGHT HERE IN THE CENTER WHICH I LIKE THE CENTERED POSITION BECAUSE YOU CAN REACH IT EASILY WITH EITHER HAND SO IF YOUR OPERATING THE CLUTCH YOU DONT HAVE TO REACH AROUND TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HELMET TO GET IT OPEN BUT WHEN YOU PUSH THIS ALL THE WAY DOWN ITS GOING TO LOCK INTO PLACE GIVES YOU A NICE SEAL AROUND THE GASKET THERE AND THEN AS YOU RAISE IT YOU HAVE A FEW DIFFERENT DETENTS TO BRING THE SHIELD UP AND THEN INSIDE YOU HAVE ANOTHER VERY POPULAR FEATURE ITS CALLED THEIR VISION PROTECTION SYSTEM BUT ITS BASICALLY A SLIDER OPERATED DROP DOWN VISOR SO THE MECHANISM WORKS BY PUSHING FORWARD THATS GOING TO LOCK THIS INTERNAL SMOKE SHIELD DOWN INTO PLACE AND THEN WHEN YOU WANT TO RETRACT IT YOU JUST BASICALLY HIT THIS RED BUTTON ON THE BASE OF THE CHIN BAR AND ITS GOING TO BE SPRING LOADED AND ITS GOING TO RETRACT RIGHT UP INTO THE HELMET SO VERY CONVIENENT IF YOU RUN UNDER A TUNNEL OR JUST SUDDENLY NEED TO SEE A LITTLE BETTER YOU CAN DROP THAT RIGHT UP OUT OF THE WAY THE INTERNAL SHIELD IS ANTI SCRATCH TREATED AND ITS ALSO ANTI FOG SO YOUR NOT GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH FOGGING ON THE INTERNAL VISOR AND THEN TO COMBAT FOG ON THE EXTERNAL SHIELD THE N104 DOES INCLUDE A PINLOCK INSERT AND I GOT THAT HERE IT STILL HAS THE PROTECTIVE FILM ON IT WHICH IS WHY ITS GOT THAT YELLOW COLOR TO IT ONCE YOU REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE FILM THAT YELLOW COLOR IS GOING TO GO AWAY BUT BASICALLY THE WAY THIS WORKS IS THE PINLOCK INSERT IS GOING TO INSTALL BETWEEN THE POSTS THAT IS BUILT INTO THE SHIELD ITSELF AND THAT GIVES YOU A KIND OF DUAL PANE EFFECT TO WHERE YOUR FACE SHIELD IS GOING TO BE INSULATED FROM THE ELEMENTS SO IN COLDER WEATHER CONDITIONS ITS GOING TO DO A FANTASTIC JOB ELEMINATING FOG OF COURSE THE OTHER CLAIM TO FAME FOR THE N104 BEING A MODULAR HELMET IS ITS FLIP UP CHIN BAR NOW THE WAY YOU OPERATE THE CHIN BAR ON THE N104 IS WHAT THEY CALL THEIR DUAL ACTION CENTROMATIC CHIN BAR RELEASE BASICALLY THATS A FANCY WAY OF SAYING YOU GOT TO SQUEEZE TWO PIECES TOGETHER TO GET IT TO OPEN. AND THE PURPOSE FOR THAT IS FOR SAFETY REASONS. YOU DONT WANT ANY KIND OF MECHANISM THAT CAN ACCIDENTLY BE TRIGGERED IN AN ACCIDENT SO BASICALLY TO OPEN THIS SHIELD YOU HAVE TO PULL FORWARD ON THE RED TAB ON THE BASE OF THE HELMET WHICH IS GOING TO EXPOSE THIS SECONDARY TAB THEN YOU SQUEEZE THOSE TOGETHER AND THATS GOING TO RAISE IT UP OUT OF THE WAY NOW IM GONNA DO THAT ONE MORE TIME AND I WANT YOU TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE PIVOT SYSTEM HERE. BASICALLY THEY CALL IT THEIR ELLIPTICAL TRAJECTORY AS YOU RAISE THE CHIN BAR UP YOU WILL NOTICE THAT THE CHIN BAR ITSELF ACTUALLY DOESNT JUST ROTATE ON ONE AXIS IT COMES UP AND THEN AS YOU ROTATE IT UP IT ACTUALLY SLIDES BACK. I DONT KNOW IF YOU CAN SEE THAT AS I RAISE IT UP WHAT THAT IS DOING FOR YOU IS THAT IS KEEPING THE CHIN BAR EXTREMELY LOW AND CLOSE TO THE TOP OF THE HELMET. A LOT OF OTHER MANUFACTURERS WHEN YOU RAISE IT UP IT PIVOTS ON THAT ONE AXIS SO YOU GOT THIS GIANT CHIN BAR STICKING UP ON THE TOP OF THE HELMET WHICH MAKES IT REALLY IMPRATICAL TO RIDE WITH. WHAT NOLAN HAS DONE IS THEY HAVE KEPT IT REALLY NICE AND LOW SO IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT THE WAY THE FACE SHIELD COMES UP HERE ITS VERY CLOSE TO THE TOP OF THE SHELL. AND THEN THEY GIVE YOU A LOCKING MECHANISM SO ON THE SIDE HERE YOU GOT A SWITCH SO IF YOU SLIDE THAT BACK ITS ACTUALLY GOING TO LOCK THAT CHIN BAR IN PLACE. SO IT CANT ACCIDENTLY CLOSE ON YOU. SO YOU CAN ACTUALLY SAFELY RIDE WITH THIS THING OPEN. WHICH A LOT OF OTHER MANUFACTURERS DISCOURAGE YOU FROM DOING. OBVIOUSLY MODULAR HELMETS ARE VERY CONVIENT IF YOUR ON A TRIP OR COMMUTING OR IF YOU WEAR EYE GLASSES. THIS INTERIOR DOES ACCOMADATE EYEGLASSES THEY GOT SPACE THERE SO THAT YOU CAN COMFORTABLY SLIDE YOUR GLASSES ON AND OFF WITH THE CHIN BAR UP. SOME PEOPLE DEPENDING ON THEIR GLASSES CAN EVEN SLIDE THE HELMET ON WHILE WEARING THEIR GLASSES JUST KEEP THE CHIN BAR UP. TAKE A LOOK AT THE VENTILATION SYSTEM ON THE N104. NOLAN CALLS IT THEIR AIR BOOSTER SYSTEM. THERE IS A PRETTY FANCY MECHANISM FOR THESE INTAKE SCOOPS ON THE TOP OF THE HELMET. IF I TILT THIS FORWARD IT MIGHT BE KIND OF DIFFICULT TO SEE ON THE VIDEO BUT THERE IS A SLIDER SWITCH ON THE TOP OF THE HELMET. THAT ACTUALLY OPERATES A RAM AIR SCOOP ON THE TOP AND THIS BROWBAND IN THE FRONT JUST ABOVE THE FACE SHIELD HERE SO IF I SLIDE IT BACK TO THE FIRST POSITION ITS BASICALLY JUST RAISING UP THIS TOP AIR SCOOP PARTIALLY THATS GOING TO DIRECT AIR DOWN INTO THE TOP OF THE HELMET IF YOU NEED MORE AIR FLOW THAN THAT YOU CAN SLIDE IT ALL THE WAY BACK AND THATS GOING TO RAISE THIS AIR SCOOP JUST ANOTHER LITTLE NOTCH THERE BUT IT ALSO HAS A MECHANISM INTERNALLY THAT OPENS THAT BROWBAND AND THAT DOES A COUPLE THINGS ONE IT KEEPS ALL THE OPERATION IN ONE SIMPLE CONVIENT AREA WHICH YOU CAN OPERATE WITH GLOVES THE OTHER THING IT DOES THAT I REALLY LIKE IS IT DOESNT GIVE YOU A WHOEL LOT OF PROTRUDING PIECES ON THE VENTS THEMSELVES SO A LOT OF LESS EXPENSIVE HELMETS MIGHT JUST PUT A SLIDER SWITCH RIGHT ON THE BROW VENTS THERE SOMETIMES IT CAN BE KIND OF FINIKY AND LOOSE BUT IT ALSO CAN ADD TO THE WIND NOISE FACTOR AND WITH THIS HELMET IT IS VERY CLEAN SHELL TAKE A LOOK AT THE BACK OF THE SHELL HERE AS AIR GETS PUSHED IN THESE FRONT VENTS AND THE TOP VENT HERE ITS GOING TO HAVE SOMEWHERE TO GO WITH THESE REAR EXHAUST VENTS NOW THESE ARE GOING TO BE ALWAYS OPEN AS YOU RIDE A VACCUUM IS GOING TO BE CREATED BEHIND YOUR HEAD AND THATS GOING TO HELP DRAW WARM AIR OUT OF THE BACK OF THE HELMET WHICH IS A GREAT WAY TO KEEP THE HELMET COOL AND COMFORTABLE AND THEN YOU ALSO GET A CHIN BAR VENT ON THIS HELMET AS WELL WHICH IS GOING TO BE OPERATED WITH A SIMPLE SLIDER SWITCH AND THAT IS ACTUALLY GOING TO DIRECT AIR UP ON THAT FACE SHIELD JUST GIVE YOU A LITTLE MORE AIR CIRCULATION IN THE FRONT OF THE HELMET AND MANAGE ANY FOGGING ON THE FACE SHIELD ITSELF. OK SO TAKING A LOOK AT THE INTERIOR OF THE N104 COUPLE OF THINGS I WANTED YOU TO NOTICE FIRST OF ALL YOU HAVE A REFLECTIVE MATERIAL THAT RUNS AROUND THE FRONT OF THE CHIN BAR AND AT THE BASE OF THE NECK ROLL SOME MORE ADDITIONAL REFELCTIVE MATERIAL WHICH IS GOING TO INCREASE YOUR NIGHT TIME VISIBILITY SO THAT IS A NICE FEATURE AND THEN AS YOU OPEN THE CHIN BAR UP I DID WANT TO POINT OUT THAT YOU DO HAVE STAINLESS STEEL HARDWARE IN THE LATCHES SO METAL TO METAL CONTACT WHICH IS GOING TO KEEP THE CHINBAR DOWN AND NICE AND SECURE. THE N104 IS ALSO READY TO ACCEPT THE N-COM B4 SYSTEM SO YOU CAN INSTALL THAT SYSTEM ITS GOING TO SEAMLESSLY INTEGRATE WITH THE HELMET YOU HAVE SPEAKER POCKETS BEHIND THE CHEEK PADS AND ITS GOING TO SEAMLESSLY INSTALL BE VERY CLEAN AND NO WIRES TO RUN THROUGHOUT THE HELMET ITS A VERY SIMPLE SYSTEM TO INSTALL INTO THE HELMET THE OTHER THING I WANT TO POINT OUT IS YOU GET A EUROPEAN STYLE RATCHETING INCLOSURE SO RATHER THAN HAVING A D-RING AND STRAP LIKE A TRADITIONAL HELMET YOU GET THE RATCHET STYLE SYSTEM WHICH IS VERY POPULAR IN EUROPE ITS ACTUALLY VERY CONVIENT AND SIMPLE TO USE BASICALLY YOU JUST INSERT IT UNTIL ITS TIGHT AND COMFORTABLE FOR YOU IT IS A VERY STRONG SECURE LATCH TO RELEASE IT YOU JUST PUSH UP ON THE RED TAB AND ITS GOING TO COME RIGHT APART FOR YOU THE INTERIOR IS FULLY REMOVABLE AND ONE THING THAT IS NICE ABOUT THE N104 IS THIS CHIN CURTAIN IS ACTUALLY IM SORRY THE NECK ROLL OF THE HELMET ITSELF IS ACTUALLY OPTIONAL SO IN SUMMER TIME IF YOU WANT A LITTLE BIT MORE AIR FLOW THROUGHOUT THE HELMET YOU CAN ACTUALLY REMOVE JUST THE NECK ROLL AND RUN WITHOUT THAT GIVE YOURSELF A LITTLE BIT MORE VENTILATION INSIDE THE HELMET AND WHEN ITS COLD YOU CAN INSTALL IT OR LEAVE IT IN AND THATS GOING TO DO TWO THINGS FOR YOU ONE ITS OBVIOUSLY GOING TO INSULATE YOU BETTER FROM THE ELEMENTS AND THEN SECONDLY IT WILL ALSO REDUCE WIND NOISE SINCE YOU WILL HAVE A BETTER SEAL AROUND THE BASE OF THE HELMET THERE THE INTERIOR IS LINED WITH WHAT NOLAN CALLS THEIR CLIMA COMFORT PADDING WHICH IS ANTI-BACTERIAL ANTI-FUNGAL. ITS BASICALLY USING A SILVER SALT TECHNOLOGY WHICH IS GOING TO ABSORB AND WICH MOISTURE AWAY FROM THE SKIN TO KEEP YOU COMFORTABLE AND AGAIN ITS FULLY REMOVABLE SO YOU CAN PULL OUT THE INTERIOR AND WASH IT TO KEEP THE HELMET FRESH SO THATS OUR OVER VIEW OF THE NOLAN N104 NEW MODULAR HELMET FROM ITALY CHECK THESE OUT ON OUR WEBSITE AT COMPETITION ACCESSORIES YOU CAN ALSO CLICK ON THE LINK IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THIS VIDEO THAT WILL TAKE YOU TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL BE SURE TO SUBSCRIBE TO US THERE SO YOU CAN STAY UP TO DATE WITH ALL OUR LATEST PRODUCT REVIEWS AND GIVE A WAYS THANKS FOR WATCHING AND WE WILL SEE YOU NEXT TIME.

A Nice Upgrade - Mr. Big Head   AZ Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Lightness, ventilation, built-in sunshade
Cons: Fit a bit tight, careful upon closing the front

This replaced an HJC CL-SP from about 7 years ago. Time has marched on in the helmet world. This shell is not only much lighter, but quieter as well. Ventilation is remarkably good. I have a very hard-to-fit head that almost demands its own zip code so I'm not overly critical of a bit of tightness here and there. My long-oval shaped, xxxl-sized head JUST fits in here with a tiny margin between my mouthchin and the front bar. The HJC really didn't have much more space, either. No helmet I try does. I have a giant cranium. I need to accept that. My family loves me. I am an asset to my community. I have a dog. I am a loving person. I just keep telling myself these things while I ponder why I have a head the size of an asteroid that could wipe out Davenport, Iowa, and is almost impossible to fit in any, any full-face motorcycle helmet made today. Anyway, quality is good. The vents, levers, and releases all operate with a satisfying thunk. But be careful upon closing the front hatch when you decide to get down and boogie It demands a firm yank and a check that you got it right. You don't want that think flying open at just the wrong time, you know what I'm sayingRide well.

best helmet ever - jim   AL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: quiet, easy on and off, the vents are the best for keeping you cool
    Cons: none

I bought this helmet due to wind noise, my ears are now very sensitive due to war wounds. It is very quiet, to make it even better I added a piece of foam in the v cut just below the ears, very very quiet now. It was not really needed. Very easy on and off. I never sweat as long as I am moving, the vents work very well at keeping you cool. I was surprise how light it was, been using half helmets for many many years One of the best things about this helmet is you can open the front and it locks so it will not come down and there is no wind drag. That really caught me off guard. Would I buy it again, in a heart beat. Best helmet I have ever had. Oh it is very comfortable to wear.Jim, dd

Perfect Helmet - MT Saratoga   NY Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Quality,fit, finish and comfort
    Cons: shell size

When I say perfect fit is in relation to my head shape. I have a long oval head shape and after many other bargain priced helmets I finally searched out the proper shaped helmet. The N104 is a perfect balance of quality and price point. I cannot afford to spend 800 on a helmet and the good enough 100 helmets I've used don't cut it on long days. This helmet is comfortable and properly fits without gaps and pressure points. The modular feature is secure and easy to use and the retention strap system works well and easier to use than d rings. The weight is average to light and past Nolan's have held up well. Ventilation is good and the shield seal is good. This helmet works for me.

Mlb - Mlh   MI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Quality fit and function
    Cons: None

When I first put this helmet on I could feel the significant quality difference compared to some less expensive helmets I have tried. Everything functions perfectly as well. Feel like I am wearing a top quality helmet built for safety, not to just pass some minimal standards. Well worth every penny spent on it Would like a little more venting.

Nolan N-104 more than a year later. - Rik Jon   MN Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: high quality, good fit, does cool the top of your head.
Cons: still a bit heavy, should have shield shut for top vent to work good. need more venting in mouth guard

I've owned the Nolan N-104 for over a year. if you ride with the face shield up it catches the wind, if you have the face shield cracked open one notch it vibes in the wind and sometimes slams shut when the wind catches it, I wish the first opening stop for the face shield was more solid. When I ordered mine I measured my head, a medium was stated to fit. should have ordered a large. little snug. I would still give it a five star rating even with the little gripes. Hope Nolan listens to the reviews. Thanks for reading my review. Rick

Nolan N104 Hi-Vis Helmet - Jeff   CO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Great fit, good airflow, high visibility
    Cons: None

I love this modular helmet Ordered a large based on my head circumference of 23. Fit is snug but no pressure points. I really like the quick connect chip strap over the traditional D ring. Price was very affordable compared to Shoei.

Great Helmet For The Price - Rune Rider   CT Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Good features, price, and style for the street
Cons: Just my personal claustrophobia with helmets

I bought this helmet in white and couldn't be happier. So far I have only used it for my motorcycle safety training course. I found that I'm comfortable in it for 6 hours at a time. It seems to flow air well on a hot humid June day. The combination of vents and the visor kept me from sweating. The modular design is a huge deal for me. I don't smoke and I wear contact lenses on the bike, so that's not why I like the flip up face shield. I just like being able to open up the helmet to prevent the claustrophobic feeling of a full-face helmet. Not having to pull the helmet off to get some relief and being able to operate the release with one gloved hand is really nice. The integrated sun shield is another nice touch and really easy to use with gloves on as well. Nolan has done a great job with the overall design and features of this modular helmet at a pretty competitive price point. My only negative has to do with me personally. This is an oval design and I guess I've got more of a round head. I measure a L size but had to go up to an XL to get a comfortable fit. Not a big deal but I had to go through buying and returning a L, XL, and XXL helmet to get the right fit.

Love this helmet. A little snug at first but it fits better after some wear. I have a round head and this is not really a round head helmet. Good price for a Hi-Quality helmet.

Just received my Hi vis yellow N104. I did a TON of research then went to the Comp. Acc. store to try on the ones I thought would be what I wanted. From everything I read, I had a feeling the Nolan was going to be my best fit, and I was right. Love the features. Love how well built it is. Love having the only modular helmet where the chin bar stayed in place and intact 100 of the time in testing. Love the price and service I got from Comp. Acc. Can't wait to hit the road

Pros: Hi viz to be seen, fits great. Large view thru face shield.
Cons: Latch system takes getting used to.

I bought this helmet to replace a N100E. The face shield has a much better view. The vent system is much better and it is quieter than the N100. The pin lock system is easy to install and works great. I installed the N-com B4 and love the built in music and phone along with getting directions from the Zumo 660.

Bought this unit for my N104 and it fits perfectly. I had both of the units installed in 15 minutes and operating in about 5 minutes after charging. I have tried all features of the unit and can't fault it at all. Very sleek in comparison to others on the market. Very happy with my choice to buy this vs the other unit.

Works very well - Reliability - George   Recommended by Reviewer: No
Pros: Easy install, very good sound quality, no wind noise, mcrophone stays in place.
Cons: Question mini-USB connectors long term reliability

Very lightweight and long connecting cable. System installs easily, is out of the way when putting on or taking off the helmet. Microphone boom is stiff and holds the microphone in position unlike some others I have used that always seemed to want to twist the mic out of position. That may be partially due to the additional room in the area in front of the face in the N-104 helmet as compared to my old N-103. The system is unobtrusive and just snaps into place but seems to stay where you put it. My only question is about the long term reliability of the mini-USB connectors used.

I have been reviewing and researching modular helmets for the past 2 months now, and have come to deciding on the Nolan N104 for a few reasons...1 Its visibility is fantastic, 2 its noise reduction is pretty top notch for a modular, 3 its air flow is great. Lastly having the flip down shades, blue tooth ready, and just being a modular gives you as a rider lots of flexibility. It truly is an all and one helmet. Gone are the days of figuring out which helmet I need depending on the ride.

Pros: Lighter and better vents than earlier models
Cons: Size not the same as earlier models

I have tried a lot of helmets over the last 30 years. I got a Nolan N102 about 3 years ago and loved it so much I bought another one as my spare. Now I wanted a helmet with the interior sun visor instead of the exterior one on the N102. I decided to get the N104 and I am not disappointed, it is quieter, lighter, the vents work better, the sun visor works slick and the helmet looks GREAT The only complaint is I am a big giant head guy and have XXL in the N102s, my N104 is also a XXL but is a bit snug, its been cold a rainy here and havent used it enough to break it in completely. Hopefully it will loosen up a bit more.

Weird but cool - CyberSepu   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Visibility, ability to clean liners, one button sun-visor retracting
Cons: No anti-fog nose cover, fits slightly different from other helmets

I bought this because my old Nolan-100 was way too old 8yrs old and just falling appart. This one is quite different in a good way. Visibility is incredible the visor is quite wide and runs very low, almost to the mouth. Peripheral is almost 180, and most notably I can see my whole instrument cluster without having to tilt my head down at all. I've never worn a full-face helmet with more visibility than this one. The sun shield is pretty cool in that it completelly retracts at the touch of one button. However the sunshield itselfcould be of a better quality. The liner is fully removable and confortable. It fits is a little weird in the top, feels like an upside-down hammock, but it helps keep your head cooler. The air vents are small but do an ok job too.Road noise is ok for daily use. The helmet comes with indentations close to the ears for comm headphones, which makes their use very comfortable. However even when the instructions say there are indentations in the side of the liners for easy use of glasses, I had a hard time fitting normal size sunglasses, so I have to wear really tight fitting sunglasses. One can argue that the sun visor makes sunglasses innecesary, but the visor sometimes is not enough.Lastly, the helmet has no anti-fog nose cover, which in other helmets is not a big deal but I kinda feel a little naked because the visor runs so low. I just got a bandana to cover my mouth and that's it, nobig deal.I would recommend this product more for sport-touring rides, but it is comfortable enough for every-day use and even sportstreet.

    Pros: Quiet

I bought the hive Orange though it is almost hot pink to go with my Valencia Orange F800GT. It is the best helmet I have owned and also the quietest. I have found no faults in it so far, though the dark screen just touches the end of my nose at times. I guess if the screen were able to be half-lowered or adjustable it might be helpful.A good helmet and the fit was excellent after the first few times of wearing it.

    Pros: Great air, great quality
Cons: Fit is tight in jaws. had to upsize and still tight

ordered size according to chart. way small, upsized to x large, fits fine except in jaw pads. great helmet was replacing a 7 year old Caberg. I love the increased visibility but that also makes more wind noise with the visor open which is how i ride most of the time. also with the extended visor in high wind you can't just open to the first notch as the wind catches it. Seems that visor thickness is less and vibrates in the wind. All in all a good hood.

Pros: I think the Hi-Vis color does increase your visiblity, especially at night.
Cons: venting system is just OK

So far I have only logged approximately 200 miles wearing use helmet. But the helmet seams to be comfortable and I really like the internal sun shield. This is the first modular helmet I have owned and i don't think I will be going back to a claustrophobic full face design helmet any time soon. Compared to other helmet manufactures Nolan helmets are a great bang for the buck.

My favorite helmet - KF4EBC   KY Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Good sun shade, easy to adjust, visor positions actually stay in place
Cons: Chin release is a little tricky in gloves, wind noise higher than other helmets

I've wanted a Nolan N104 since they were introduced and finally bought one. The helmet fits my head shape perfectly. It is a little noisy at speed even with the chin curtain in place, but the sun shade works easily and fits over my prescription glasses. It is great for going in and out of tunnels on a sunny day and dark enough that I haven't needed to use sun glasses under it. The chin release can be a little small and hard to manipulate with heavy gloves, but it fine with thinner ones. The B4 sound system is the real reason to buy this. Integration with the helmet is very smooth and it doesn't look like a stuck on afterthought like most helmet communication systems.

Pros: Very little turbulence, Excellent visibility.
Cons: Snap lock feels a little choking but adjusts well.

When I first got this helmet, I had to really loosen up the snap lock for the strap. I was really surprised how badly the visor fogged up. Then I discovered that the visor can actually be cracked open just enough to let more air in. Instructions need a lot of work. The helmet itself. Excellent product and very good in the air. I had very little if no turbulence. I still need to wear earplugs to keep out the wind noise. I was going to get a Schuberth but decided I can't justify the cost. This was an excellent compromise. Fit and finish are excellent. The pivoting chin bar works smooth and flawlessly. Now that I know a few tricks to this helmet, it's definitely growing on me.

Pros: Great fit, Great construction, Wide field of view
Cons: Chin strap a little uncomfortable

I could tell a soon as I put this helmet on that it was well constructed, a little tight going on but I'm sure after the brake in it should be fine. It's very quiet for a modular helmet and the pinlock shield really does work as far as fogging goes. I might invest in the N-Com system at some point in the future. So far I'm very satisfied with this helmet.

Nice features but noisy - R1200GSA   MS Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Nice features. Wide view
Cons: Noisy, plastic trim, weak shield retentsion

Overall the helmet is worth the money. Fit is kind of tight initially but has broken in nicely. The plastic trim on the lower right pulled out every time the helmet was put on or removed. I was able to adjust the padding which helped with fit and the trim issue. The helmet is noisy but no more so than other Nolans I have owned. Shoei is quieter. Love the ventilation and the pop down sunvisor is awesome. The faceshield retention points are weak, especially full open. Constantly slams shut. Helmet weight feels about average. All the functional bits work seamlessly except for the faceshield glitch. I would buy this helmet again despite the nits.

    Pros: Good fit and finish
Cons: Sizing provided is wrong, to small.

This helmet is nice but the Shoei Neotec is better. I bought both and the Shoei I the winner, hands down. I bought the Nolan and followed their sizing guide, it was off by 2 sizes. The material inside feels cheap compared to the Shoei. The face shield is ok but is just like a 100 helmet. Step up and by the Shoei, you won't regret it.

Nolan N104 Helmet - Phil A - San Jose   CA Recommended by Reviewer: No
Pros: It fit and looked good
Cons: It arrived in pieces and felt ...cheap

I opened up the box within minutes of its arrival. The visor was hanging off its mount. No big deal I thought, I'll just put it back together. I compared the spring with the other side and amazingly, it was a different size. I couldn't get the visor to re-attach I had my hands all over this helmet even before I got to try it out on the bike. Never made it that far.I called CS and they were great I told them my experience and after holding the helmet for a good long while, I decided that it just didn't feel right. Too light...not strong enough to do its job. I got strange parts that don't fit. Poor shipping inspection. What else is wrong with this helmet, I thought I decided to upgrade to the Shoei Neotec. I was already on the fence between the two helmets and I originally cheaped out opting for the Nolan. I won't do that again. I paid the man and the Shoei helmet arrived the following day thanks to me and the Shoei disti living in the same State Calif. Sending back the Nolan was painless. CS emailed me an RMA, I printed it out and drove down to the local Fed X-Kinko's to mail CompAcc back their Nolan helmet. They can keep it. The refund arrived on my debit card within a few days of them receiving back the Nolan. No problems whatsoever. I feel very confident that CompAcc stands by its products and provides really good customer service. I will not hesitate to buy from them again. Great retailer.
