Information and Details about the Michelin Commander 2 Tires - Front
made by Michelin
Covers nearly twice the distance covered by its direct competitors, while the longevity of the front tire is even greater. The MICHELIN Commander II creates a new standard with regard to durability, yet without making any compromises in terms of wet weather grip, maneuverability or stability. This performance balance provides yet another eloquent illustration of Michelin’s research and development philosophy: no performance gain to be achieved on one front to the detriment of another.

In response to the major problem faced by custom motorcycle riders – tire life, notably at the rear, the engineers at the Michelin Technology Center at Ladoux, France, have developed a new rubber compound. The carcass of this new radial tire is associated with Silica Rain Technology (SRT) which integrates silica into the compound of the tire tread, while the MICHELIN Commander II's tread pattern has been designed to prevent all forms of uneven wear.

The exclusive architecture of the MICHELIN Commander II brings both maneuverability and stability. The tire’s more rigid, high-density carcass improves maneuverability, while the aramid fiber crown ply of the rear tire enhances resistance and lightness for impeccable stability, even at high speeds.

Last but not least, the numerous longitudinal grooves of the new tire's tread pattern optimize water dispersal for outstanding wet weather grip.

A new standard in cruiser tire longevity
  • Independent tests* show that the Michelin® Commander® II rear tire lasts almost twice as long its main competitors, the Metzeler ME 880 and the Dunlop D407/408

    Innovative technology
  • Commander II 90-thread ply is 25% more dense than conventional plies
  • Amplified Density Technology: A highly dense, more-rigid tire casing, which helps deliver excellent feedback and handling
  • Aramid tread plies on the rear tire resist centrifugal growth, reduce weight and provide excellent stability
  • All-new rubber compounds for remarkable wet grip, without compromising durability
  • >Square bead wires improve casing rigidity, handling and ease of installation

    A groundbreaking new look
  • Unique tread pattern for head-turning looks
  • Premium sidewall treatment complements cruiser styling

Commander 2 tires - Lippy   MA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: [None]
    Cons: [None]

I just put on a set of Michelin Commander 2 tires on my 2007 VTX 1300 and what a difference from the stock Dunlop's...not even in the same comparison group. The ride is much improved and I can feel the contact patch much better. Improved handling and smoother cornering as well. An even better ride with a passenger with proper shock adjustment and tire pressure. I run the pressure about 5lbs higher than recommended for an even better ride and hopefully longer life.

Pros: Love the Michelin Commander IIs
    Cons: [None]

You can't beat a Michelin tire. When Dunlop was having problems a few years ago, H-D was installing Michelins as OE. The price for both Michelin Commander IIs front and rear tires for my Ultra Classic beat the Harley-Davidson Dunlop replacements by 227.68.

    Pros: Overall performance

2006 Ultra Classic. I decided to try a different set of tires after 55k on OEM Dunlops. I should have done this years ago. These tires completely changed the handling personality of my bike. It is very smooth and corners much better. If they last as long a advertised..this is the only tire I will put on this bike..period

Awesome Tire - Udawg   UT Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Smooth ride, long lasting
    Cons: None

This tire really helps on the tar snakes on the highways. It must be the tread design but the tar snakes almost disappear. Also lasts about 28,000 miles on my Limited.

Very Happy - Paul T   NY Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Overall performance
    Cons: None so far

Replaced tires on my 2010 Triumph Thunderbird 1700 ABS. This is my second set of replacement tires. The first time I replaced my tires with the stock Metzlers that came with the bike. As with the original tires the 1st replacement only lasted 5,000 miles. Ok the front tire had a little more wear to go than the rear but not that much. Not alot of miles out of the Metzlers. Read the reviews on the Michelin Commander which were mostly all good. I bought the Michelin's for my third replacement set since owning my ride. I only have them for about 1,000 miles, so far so good. The ride seems better, they grip the road better then the Metzler's, and I really feel a better grip when going into a turn. A nice smooth ride on this tire so far. Whats left to be seen is how much mileage I get out of them hopefully much more than the 5,000 the last two sets of Metzler's gave me. So far a great tire

Michelin Commander 2 - Kevin HD 2008   CT Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Super smooth, Excellent grip, Nice looking
Cons: There aren't any for this tire...

Sure this tire felt different when I first rode away with it. but in a good way that kept improving. This tire is super grippy, smooth, tracts very well. I believe this will be the tire of choice for my bike now. My last tires were on my bike for over 16,000 miles. Replaced them both with these Michelin Commander 2's I just love the way they feel and handle. Too soon to give a mileage report, but I believe I should get at least 18,000 miles on them I will be very happy2008 HD Ultra Classic

Commander 2 tires - chas   MN Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Price, Name
    Cons: None

I have never purchased Michelin tires before, At first they did not feel quite right , but with a few hundred miles on them they are getting better and hold to the road very nicely My corners were a little funny at first, however they are gripping much better I do recommend these tires now, but will have to see if they will get the mileage people claim.

Wow, what an improvement - MotoPumps   NY Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Great Grip, Great Handling, Great Price and Easy to Mount
    Cons: None so far

I just replaced the stock Dunlops on an '03 XL883R. This bike is essentially an 11 year old brand new bike with only about 700 miles on it. A dealer had put it away for his kid, then the kid didn't want it... Anyway, the Dunlops were brand new looking, but hard and slippery.I spooned on these Michelin Commander 2s and they were easy to mount, balanced with very little weight and look great. I went for a ride and immediately noticed greater grip and front end feel. After my third ride, I pushed the bike a bit more and the tires continue to impress. Very stable, smooth, quiet, and loads of feedback when leaned over. They feel great

Great tire, best I have used in 45 years of riding. Smooth ride, great traction, wet or dry. I predict the Michelin Commander will set the new standard for motorcycle tires.

Good Tires - Randy   KY Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Great handling. Good on wet roads.
    Cons: None I've found.

I first put these on my Vulcan 800A to replace a set of Avon AMs that were worn out. I love the Avons, but they don't last very long. The other reviews and advertised tread life led me to try them out. While they're not quite as sticky as the Avons, they do very well. I am a conservative rider anyway, so that small difference should be a non-issue. When new, they don't seem to want to follow grooves as much either just as advertised. Since they worked out so well on my Vulcan, I also put them on my 89 FLHS. I ordered the same size for front and rear 14090-16s. Now that Glide handles much better. I had to pull the belt guard off to make it work, but haven't had any problems yet.....even riding 2 up.I won't know about the tread life for a while, but so far they're great

Michelin Commander II Tires - Timothy Stricker   MI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes

    Cons: N.A.

I bought a set of Michelin Commander II Tires for my 05 Fatboy with a 21 front Tire & a 16-180 size rear tire. They ride great and found the best price with Competition Accessories. Buy with confidence. Very Fast Shipping-I received tires in less than a week.

best tire ever - bikermike   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: best handling tire, best wet weather, long lasting
    Cons: none

every tire Ive tried, comander 2,is the best, doesnt feel the rain grooves, grips the road like suction cups in the rain, great cornering, and when the rear tire blew out it did not come off the rim,I rode it on a flat for 8miles,it did not shred the dunlops came off the rim

Harley Rider - Fat Bob   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Very well made, long lasting, good price, smooth ride, Awesome Handling.
    Cons: Have not found any.

I bought a set of the Michelin commander 2 tires to put on my Harley Davidson Fat Bob Screaming Eagle stage 4. I immediately noticed the difference in the handling and feel of these tires over the Dunlop originals. Traction handling and braking were very noticeably improved. My first refueling I noticed a difference in the gas mileage. I checked it again 2 additional times and confirmed my gas mileage had increased 2 miles per gallon. I am very pleased with the Michelin commander 2 tires. There is no doubt in my mind that I will buy the commander 2 tires again and I will recommend to everyone that is looking for an improvement in tire performance and longevity.

Michelin Commander II - clwcomp   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: High mileage, great handling,
    Cons: [None]

Just ordered my second set of Michelin Commander II's. Have tried several brands of tires over the years and average 5000 - 8000 miles on a rear tire. Currently have 18000 miles on Commander II rear tire. Estimate in 4000 miles I will still have 14 of original tread left. Pretty awesome Not even close on the front tire yet. Estimating I will get close to 40000 miles on it. Have driven cross country on interstate and locally on chip and seal, asphalt, concrete, gravel and dirt in all kinds of weather. Tires handle well and shed water very well. Only caveat has been on grooved pavement but I still haven't found a tire that handles that well.

Great tire - Richard A.   MT Recommended by Reviewer: Yes

    Cons: NA

These tires stick to the ground, the price is right.

Nice tire - spiritrider1   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Nice shape, good traction
Cons: Not the size I wanted

I really like how this tire looks and rides on my Triumph Rocket III Classic. I don't have many miles on it yet but the only issue I have is that I had to go with a lower profile than I needed and it lowered the front of my bike 1 which is quite a lot. Handling didn't suffer - if anything, it should have tightened it up a little. But I lost ground clearance that was already at a premium to begin with. I wish Michelin would make the size I really need, not to mention one for the back as well. I like the stock Metzlers but they wear too quick and are very pricey. The only other option is a set of Avons and they are worthless - I test rode them once in variable drydamp conditions and they were extremely slick and gave poor feedback. I will need a little time on this one to see how the milage and grip hold up. For now it's just as good as the Metzler.

Great grip. Tread life overrated - Just Dave   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Excellent wet traction
Cons: Tread life not as advertised

Put these tires on a Harley Wide Glide in April. Was incredibly impressed with the grip absolutely no fear of leaning into turns as far as I can without scraping pipes or pegs. Wet traction is also great. If there's a better tire for a V Twin out there, I haven't seen heard about it. That said, I am buying another front tire today. 8,500 miles and it's at the treadwear indicator. Make no mistake - 8,500 miles on a front tire is great for me Dunlops would give me maybe 3,000.The rear is still at about 85 no doubt I'll get 20,000 miles out of it.

commander 2 tires - Wiccan   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: [None]
    Cons: [None]

I am a daily rider. With over 75,000 miles on my 2005 Harley Ultra Classic.Install the new tires and found an immediate riding improvement. Even in wet. Conditions the. Tire grip super well. Usely the first 100 miles a tire is slick like oil but this tire just gets Better and better. I ONLY HAVE 500 MILES ON THE TIRES BUT I AM VERY HAPPY. Now if they last 14,000 to 20000 miles I will never buy another brand of tire.Ride safe

mich tires - bruce   SC Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: So far so good.
    Cons: Remains to be seen.

so far so good.I bought these 'cause advertised wear ability. used to have Dunlap 404s, but they have poor longivity and Doubt I'll buy them again.

5 star right now just for the great shipping, excellent customer service and awesome price..These tires have great tread depth, and a really nice looking roll in ,very aggressive tread. I will be revisiting this review when the tires are mounted and get some mileage on them..Looking forward to testing the claim of 25 plus thousand from a front tire.. AW1

Michelin Commander 2 Front Tire - Dave   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: [None]
    Cons: [None]

This tire was bought to replace the Dunlop American Elite front tire on my 2010 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Limited. All of my riding friends who use this tire rave about the mileage they get out of this tire.I installed this tire at 47,730.0 miles... I'll let you know what kind of wear I get out of it here in Texas.

In the wind - In the wind   DE Recommended by Reviewer: No
    Pros: Good traction
    Cons: Rough ride

Didn't think Michelin made bias tires, but was willing to check this out since I have had Michelin tires for motorcycles and pickup truck several times and am impressed with the ride and mileage longevity they provide. Was very hesitant since they were bias tires, but figured I would give it a go since it had the Michelin brand. Once you go radial, you do not want to go back to bias tires.Like the traction they provide, do not like the ride. Too rough. Rated for 13K miles, so I'm looking forward to seeing if that works out. If so, I would add a half star.Already have 1000 on the tires. Front & Back

Michelin - Mike   WI Recommended by Reviewer: No

Cons: noisey, feels like card in spoke, handle bar and foot peg buzz

Have about 1200 miles on front and rear michelin commander 2' about 1200 miles into a 3 week 4000 mile trip and considering getting them off, the worse tire I have ever the end of the day my hands are numb and tingly .. I am fatigued and my ears ring. I have done 1300 To 1400 mile days in the past and never felt like I do now after 500 miles..... going to be a long three weeks, 4000 miles
