Information and Details about the Metzeler ME880 Marathon Tires Upgrades - Kawasaki VN800 Vulcan 95-05
made by Metzeler
  • Upgrading to these sizes gives your bike that custom look
  • Metric upgrade users must verify that minimum tire clearance is met
  • Modified or Lowered bikes may not be valid for upgrades

    STAGE 1 UPGRADE
  • The Metzeler Stage 1 Upgrade helps you improve mileage, ride, handling, and looks without modifying your bike. A true BOLT-ON upgrade for everyone

    STAGE 2 UPGRADE
  • The Metzeler Stage 2 upgrade requires modification to your motorcycle's wheels, fenders, spacers and the purchase of other small products to achieve the look and ride desired. Metzeler offers more sizes than any other tire company, with the same famous upgrades for ride, handling and looks, or on a different diameter wheel. These changes may require modifications to your brake stay-arm or exhaust mounts. Clearances must be verified by installer/consumer

    STAGE 3 UPGRADE
  • The Metzeler Stage 3 upgrade always originates with a standard Harley. Modifications begin with the swing arm; typically the purchase of a wide tire swing arm kit is necessary.
  • This upgrade also requires new wheels, fenders and tires, but it will give you the maximum effect in terms of upgrading the looks of your bike.
  • Handling and performance remain at the high standards you have become accustomed to from other Metzeler tires.

    IMPORTANT FITTING INFORMATION
  • Correct rim width may be critical to handling and stability. A tire which is installed on a wider than recommended rim will have a "flattened" profile, with a smaller contact patch during braking
  • Remember tire clearances are important. Changes to your frame and suspension could alter the handling characteristic of your motorcycle and cause clearance problems
  • While every effort has been taken during the testing of these motorcycles, Metzeler cannot guarantee that modifications will not be necessary to fit these oversized tires on your model of motorcycle

    ME 880 Marathon Tire Features:
  • Premium line dedicated to cruiser and heavy touring bikes, featuring high-tech construction with fashionable design
  • Compounds offer high grip allowing the rider to exploit great torque output with total control
  • Machine-specific carcass construction for exceptional riding comfort and stability at all speeds, even under heavy load
  • Tread pattern design with offset central grooves alignment providing very high mileage for never-ending riding enjoyment
  • TL=Tubeless

Pros: long life, good handling wet or dry
Cons: not the least expensive tire out there but do you not get what tou pay for

Ahh the MEZ880 others say it is the mileage tire out there in the market place...some say it doesn't do as well as other tires when it comes to grip...I say what do they know....I have been impressed in the wet and dry as well.I works well with the MEZ6 I have on the front of my ST1300...We will see how it does in the long fun...I'm hoping for many many milesRodm850gp.s.I got mine from CA....had some money from past purchases and it was applied to the tire so I saved on the price and they sent it to me freight free...another satisfied Compacc customer.....

Great Tire - Tim   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: traction, handling, wonderful riding tire
    Cons: None

This was an upgrade from my original manufacture tire for my 1300 royal star. After the initialbreak in, I put the tires to my preferred tests. I noticed imediatly the improvement of handling.I then took it to some extreme cornering, and felt much more confidence than my original tires.Harsh braking was not a problem either. The ride is much better than ever. As far as wear, I haven't put enough miles on them yet to comment. So far, this is the best tire i have ever owned.

Great Fit - Paul   OH Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Great traction, great handling, smooth ride.
    Cons: None yet.

Installed these on a 2008 Victory Vision. The bike had the original Dunlop tires which had cupped very badly and handled horribly. So far, the Metzlers have been great.

I can't believe no one has commented on these tires. They are great!!!! I put the 200/18 on the rear of my 09 Yamaha Vmax after burning up the crappy stock Bridgestone. So I wasn't going to expect much better from a touring tire. Man was I wrong this tire is amazing how good it hooks up with 212 hp and 127 tq at the crank. Handles great in the twisties too. Going to change the front to this model as well.

I bought this tire at first I didn't think it was going to fit, cuz it's a wide tire. I had air up the tire before I put it on, had trouble putting it on. so I let some air out. went right in. this tire tire looks and rides awesome. I recommend to all vtx 1800 owners.

Rocket II Roadster & ME880 Rear Tire - DaveinDallas   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Decent grip and longevity, Handles 140 ftlb torque well
Cons: BrakingGrip in wet could be a little better.

I got about 6000 miles on my rear tire on My Rocket III Roadster. The front is still good and I may get 10-12K on them. I am hoping to change them when the new rear tire is ready. They handle the Rocket's torque very well in the dry, and lasted reasonably well considering a 800 pound bike with more torque and power than almost anything else out there, and a 200 pound rider and sometimes with luggagepassenger as well.Had a 'moment' a few times on a slick road when pulling off and lost traction under gentle power.I would rate them a 5 if the mileagelongevity was a little better. I did use the power aggressively when I first got the bike, and perhaps as I tone down my riding the next set will last longer. All in all, a confidence-inspiring tire.A pity that the only other competition is the Avon Cobras. I would love to try a Michelin but they do not make them for this bike.

to much for too little - bikerrog   Recommended by Reviewer: No
Pros: great tire, corners well, handles well
    Cons: doesn't last

Bought new for a long ride, 4400 miles of a one up ride with the wife. Easy touring, didn't ride it hard. The tire was ready to be changed by the time we got home. Will not by another.
