Information and Details about the LS2 FF386 Solid Modular Helmet
made by LS2 Helmets
The LS2 FF386 modular full-face motorcycle helmet offers features you would expect to find on helmets costing twice as much. The full-metal latch system operates smoothly and offers a super secure closure for safety. It opens with a single button that is easy to find and easy to use, even with a heavy winter glove. The chin bar has a secure detent when fully opened, so it wont flop down over your eyes when you do not want it to. If you open the chin bar while the shield is up, they will marry and come down together in one smooth action. The FF386 has LS2's Twin Shield System with a built-in Full Eclipse Drop Down Sunscreen that is easy to open and close, so you can get the sun protection you want, and get more light quickly when entering a tunnel. Replacement lenses are available in dark smoke, light smoke and HiViz. The Fog Fighter Face Shield is optically correct, scratch resistant and has LS2's Radial Tool-less Quick Release making it easy to change whenever you need. This is a motorcycle helmet built for motorcycle riders, whether you are touring the Alaskan Highway, or commuting to work. 3D Laser Cut foam in the cheek pads make for a secure and comfortable fit, and a quick release strap makes it easy to get on and off. The HTPP composite shell is aerodynamic and has fully adjustable ventilation. The LS2 FF386 is so comfortable, you will forget you have it on. DOT/ECE approved. The LS2 FF386 Modular has a 5-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship.

Features:
  • Lightweight, aerodynamic, HTPP composite helmet shell cuts through the wind keeping the rider comfortable and resulting in less fatigue
  • Fully adjustable flow-through ventilation to keep you cool in the heat but allow you to block the breeze when it’s cold
  • The Radial Tool-less Quick Release equipped face shield is optically correct and the helmet has a wide eye port for great visibility
  • Liner is fully removable and washable, bacteria and odor resistant so you can keep it as fresh as new
  • Quick release strap for easy on and off

Well done - Ramblin66   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Solid construction, metal latches and pins for locking the chin bar, chin strap.
Cons: Sizing runs small, slight optical distortion at top of internal sun visor.

I've been pretty happy with this LS2 so far. I've only got about 400 or so miles on it, but I've been impressed with the build quality. Solid. Especially the lockup of the rotating flip closure.Noise levels are good, much better than my Caberg Trip. There does seem to be two areas behind the neck on both sides that are the source of some wind noise at speed, but overall noise is entirely tolerable. Two minor complaints...1. The shield is a bit more prone to fogging than previous Caberg, HJC, Shoei, etc helmets I've owned. I've not tried to treat it yet. The chin vent does blow a good amount of air up on the shield, so the problem is limited to stops.2. There is some minor distortion at the top of the inner sun visor. The clear outer visor is optically excellent, but if I'm looking down at my gauges and move my eyes not my head to check the road, there is some distortion in the last inch, where the sun visor meets the helmet with the sun visor in the down position.ProsSolid build quality. Especially like the metal tabs on the flip lock.Sun visor has excellent coverage. Deploys fully and does not interfere with vision.Relatively quiet, especially for a flip.Good ventilation. I was out in 90'F weather yesterday and my head did not get overheatedMicro-lock chin strap is awesome. Easy to use. Comfortable.Reasonable price.CautionsSizing runs a bit tight. Maybe a half size smaller than standard. I'm an XL usually, and the XL fits me, but it's a bit more snug in the cheeks than I want on a long ride. I'm considering replacing the XL cheek pads with XXL. Maybe I'll try washing them first to see if that loosens them a bit.Overall, 4.5 5

Great Value - BatBoy65   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Great features, relatively light weight, very solid and love the quick release strap
    Cons: None so far

Terrific value in a modular helmet I have had many mid-priced modular helmets. I have also tested several lower and higher priced ones and I must say, the 386 checks almost all the boxes for a great helmet. Up until now, I have favored the AGV Migila and had 3 of those over the years. I think I found my new favorite. The helmet feels solid and very well made much more so than the Vega Summit I once had and discarded after a few weeks. The drop down visor is excellent as is the quick release retention system. Because my bike has a helmet hook lock, I attached a common key ring through the strap near the buckle and now the bad guys will have to cut the strap in order to walk away with it Got that idea from my AGV Miglia. After you try this release system, you may never go back to D rings... I know I won'tI was able to install my Scala Team Set Bluetooth with little effort. While the flip down mechanism for the inner visor is also located on the left side, it does not interfere much with the Scala mounting clip. There is also plenty space for the mic boom to fit between my mouth and the inside of the chin bar far better than the Miglia. The speaker pockets are adequate for the Scala's small speakers, but they are not real deep at least in the XXL size so larger speakers may need some adjusting in order to fit comfortably. The Miglia was a bit better in that regard. The helmet feels lighter than the Miglia and it is much more balanced than the Vox Genesis I once wasted 150 on. I noticed that the chin bar release is far easier to find and use than other helmets that have that mechanism on the inside. The clear outer shield comes Pinlock ready, which many riders may like. I live in CA, so I do not need that feature as I use Clarity Defog to help with that. In fact, I would prefer that feature was optional. Not really a problem as the holes are pretty far to the sides, but I just don't need them. The ventilation seems adequate. The upper vents and rear exit portal are good-sized, so I guess we will see in the heat of summer. Noise level seems pretty good to me, especially for a modular definitely better than the Miglia which is kind of squeaky. The helmet has a relatively low profile and seems pretty aerodynamic. I currently ride a Goldwing with a full windscreen, so I really can't speak as to how the LS2 will do the with full wind in your face. The fit is nice and snug. I usually fit in either an XL or XXL in most helmets. I only have a 23 head measurement, but I am a bit full in the face. The XXL cheek pads work just right for me in the FF386, but I could probably use an XL liner for a perfect fit. The same was true with the Miglia. So, I just ordered one from this site Note There are 2 different liner types available based on the number of snaps that attach it to the front. Mine has 2 snaps and the other has 4, so be sure to get the correct one if you order a replacement. Apparently, the same is true of the cheek pads. Until it arrives, I just added a bit of extra foam under the top of the XXL, and I am now a happy camper. The Hi Viz color certainly gets more attention than my prior gray helmets did. Time will tell how well this noggin-saver will do long term, but so far so good. Nice job LS2

Excellent Helmet - San Diego Garey   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Modular feature and flip downup inner visor easy to use with gloves.
    Cons: Good flow air better.

This is the first modular helmet I've owned. I wanted to get one as in Southern California it can be quite a relief to pop up the chin bar for cooling at stops. Also it makes getting other parts of your gear on and off much easier than in a full face while the chin bar is up. I found the size runs pretty true to past experience, I am an XL and it fits as it should with a small amount of adjustment to the chin strap. The chin strap is a ratchet type so it is easier to manipulate in gloves again than the typical double D ring. Getting the helmet on and off is easy with the chin bar up as it flexes nicely in this configuration. Also it is easy to flip the chin bar up and down and to deploy the inner tinted visor while wearing gloves. So, if the sun comes out, or goes away you can change your helmet to match the environment. This is replacing a full automotive type helmet I used in sports cars for quite a while. It is aerodynamic and is much less prone to noise and buffeting than the older style helmet it replaces. The constructive criticism I do have is that I wish it would flow more air. My older full face actually flows a little better than this LS2. I am looking at it to make sure I have the vents deployed correctly but I do believe that have them in the optimum open position. I want to try and ride it with them closed to see the effect on noise, but as stated it is already a pretty quiet helmet. As this is my first modular I don't have a basis of comparison but I can say that I am happy with my choice and would recommend this to others without hesitation.

Pros: Great features, good construction, light weight, good fit, great price.
    Cons: Top vent small

Rode over 350 miles today testing the Honda Dual Clutch Transmission and my new LS2-FF386. The LS2 Medium fits my 7-18 head size snugly. Not too tight as like painful but snug with no movement as it should be. All the features sounded too good to be true for the price but since a piece broke on my Symax II I thought I would give this LS2 a try as a spare. Fit and finish of components is very good. Action of the shield and chin guard is crisp with positive stops. Position of shield openings are great for my height and windshield. Chin curtain, cheek pads, nose shroud all better for me than the old Symax. The chin guard latch is easy to operate and the two position vent works well. The sun visor operates easily and allows plenty of nose clearance. Quick release chin strap was much appreciated. The long day made for several occasions for the helmet to be on and off and I can say that the features performed without flaw and the light weight and snug fit did not leave me with a headache or any sore pressure spots. Can't say the same for the NC's seat. Temperature in the low to high 60's made layering necessary and the neck of a fleece vest fit nicely with chin curtain to seal out drafts. Top vent was not needed today but looks pretty small for hot weather. Don't know yet how the LS2 will perform in rain but am satisfied that it is a good piece of work for the price.
