Hey whats up guys its Ruben at competiton accessories here checking out the HJC RPHA X offroad helmet. This is really the first premium offroadhelmet weve seen from HJC, they have taken alot from what they have learned from there moto GP top of the line RPS10 street helmet and they broughtit over and developed a very impressive off road helmet. Ive done quite a bit of off road riding and ive ridin in quite a few different brands ofoff road helmets and this is right up to par with all the other premium helmets on there. First things first is its very light weight which is goingto reduce neck fatiuqe which will help you be more competitive. It comes in at 2.92 pounds for the medium and large size model, which is very lightweight. The shell itself is constructed with premium integrated matrix design which incorporates carbon fiber aramid fibers and fiberglass, which creates a very ridgid strong shell. Basically if you go down and hit say a rock its going to spread the impact over the largest area possible, an then the eps foam inside the helmet is designed to slow your head down gently so that you dont get any brain injuries. If you just take a look at the aggressive designof the shell shape. Its going to be extremely aerodynamic and you do have an adjustable visor piece so that you can adjust this up and down dependingon the conditions, so if your in a real muddy race you can adjust this nice and low. Also its got good coverage on it if you wont a little more ventilationyou can raise it up obviously its removable and replaceable as well. Very aggresive ventilation vents as well in the past they've called it thereadvanced channeling ventilation system and this is something they've brought over from there road race helmets, but if you look at the front of thistheres air intakes on the mouth guard. Here you have intakes right along the top of the brow thats going to bring air right around the top of your googlesand theres channels that we'll look at in a minute that go up inside underneath the visor peak which might be hard to see. There are actually small ventsas well those are going to function almost like ram air scoops. Air is going to be channeled in underneath this visor peak and be forced down insidethe vents on the helmet, there are more vents at the top of the shell here bringing in more air and then at the back you have some exhaust vents. Exhaustingwarm air out of the helmet is one of the best ways to get hot air out and keep you comfortable as you ride. Low pressures kind of generate in behind thehelmet here and that kind of draws the warm air right out the back of the helmet. Inside the helmet you have what they call there cool forever fabricthis is an advanced new fabric it has ginkgo extract in the fibers. Its designed specifically to moisture wick but also not get hot so those hot ridesyou know typically even if its not really hot outside alot of times your working hard when your riding off road so your sweating alot, and this is goingto do a really good job managing all that moisture and keeping you cool as you ride. You can remove the interior as well so for cleaning up the cheek padsand the rest of the helmet your going to be able to pull the inside out. Theres basically three snaps and a tab around the side of the cheek pad so youcan see it is a nice contoured cheek pad design on the inside there, and then you can also remove the crown liner couple snaps at the back and thenaround the front of the crown. When they do it this way you have some tabs around the crown that prevents any snaps, velcro in this area from being right onyour forehead so it attaches out in front of the shell itself so its not creating any pressure points. It is a nice open design so you will see that thereis plenty of ventilation so its going to get right through to your skin to keep you more comfortable. Look at the inside here you do have air channelsbuilt in and you'll see that theres plenty of holes in there so that all that air flow can come in and breathe through out the whole helmet and keepyou comfortable for those long hot motos. RPHA X retails at around the 350 dollar market a little more for some of the graphics and around that mark forthe solids. So you can check those out online on our website at and see what our current pricing is. Very impressive helmetvery light very well thought out very well engineered and a nice design. Also there are different graphics available as well as solids you can checkthose out online. Really good helmet for the money - Frank   NJ Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Ventilation,
    Cons: None

I have been riding for about 25 years and owned several helmets in that time. I guess you can say I'm cheap I don't like to spend more than 120 for a helmet I'm going to wear for only 2-3 years. This helmet is better than most that I have paid 110 - 120.It's as quit as some helmets but quieter than most I have had, I can see clear without distortion, the fit is good not tight not loose , Here in Jersey it can get uncomfortably humid this helmet keeps the air flowing. I asume a 200 and more helmet would work better but but how much better

Pros: Price is excellent, Snell & DOT approved, easy shield changes, OK venting
Cons: Can be noisy you'll want to wear erplugs

Hard to beat the HJC CL-16 -- Machine graphics or any other. You're getting a Snell & DOT approved full-face helmet for 70-85 less cost than an Arai or Shoei. The only drawbacks The venting is OK, but not fabulous and the helmet is fairly noisy good idea to wear earplugs. Not as noisy as my old Suomy, and that was 5x the price.

HJC RPHA-10 Evoke Helmet - Rich B   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: well constructed helmet comfortable helmet looks outstanding comes with the pinlock system
Cons: none that I can think of

Let me start off by saying this is one comfortable helmet. I appreciate the fact that the helmet comes with the pin lock system which costs 26.99 if purchased separately. The graphics on this lid are top notch. I was concerned about the visor and the locking system. After a few times of locking down the shield while driving solved any issues I could have had. You can lock the latch with one hand with gloves on. To completely remove the shield is a breeze also. I like the fact that I can remove most of the padding inside the helmet for cleaning. You simply drop them in the washing machine and let them air dry before reinstalling them. The helmet is Snell and DOT approved which means a lot to me. If there was a shortfall I would say say it is in the ventilation system. I live in Florida and of course it gets hot in the summer. There seems to be no big difference if I open the two top vents all the way as opposed to a lower setting.

Pros: Everything about this helmet is good, it's my third HJC Helmet and I love it.
    Cons: Nothing

Everything about this helmet is good, it's my third HJC Helmet and I love it. I also ordered the chin curtain and nose piece, after trying to install the chin curtain I read the owner manual and realize you should not. So don't order it, will be a waste of time. Also the nose piece worked nice at first , but after my second ride I turned my head and had a big gust of wind get past the nose piece and had to close my eyes. So again don't order the nose piece, I took it off and noticed the helmet works great with out it. The helmet itself is great, the picture does not do it justice. Looks 10 times better than the picture.

Great Helmet - Bret   MA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Very Light, well ventilated and comfortable
Cons: Sizing if you are on the edge

This is a very nice helmet especially for the money. It is as comfortable as my Aria and so far seems as well put together. I am on the lower end of an xl from their sizing chart but is seems like it may end up a little to big after it packs out. Overall though my next helmet will be another one of these just maybe in a large.

    Pros: Light weight and comfortable
    Cons: [None]

I haven't had much of a chance to wear this helmet as it is winter. However, the helmet fits as my previous HJC helmets, so no surprises there. It is significantly lighter than my previous HJC helmets. CompAcc got it to my door in a timely manner.

Great helmet for a first time buyer - Michael Walter   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Comfortable, fully removable liner, well priced
Cons: Wind from under the helmet is the greatest source of airflow.

I got my CL-16 from a local dealer and am very pleased with this helmet for the price. It does have issues with air coming in the bottom but having the pinlock visor keeps from having it fog up. I would recommend this helmet as a great entry level helmet as it is both DOT and SNELL approved.

Great deal at close out price - Brian   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Scratch resistant face-shields that are replaceable, generous padding, good value
Cons: Matte black looks very easy to scratch, HJC logo is on when matte is not supposed to have

I have to agree with the previous review that the chin strap should be longer and I wouldn't say I have a thick neck. I'll use my new helmet for the first time tomorrow and will update after that experience. I can say that buying from Competition Accessories was a great experience. Product was shown not in stock and still delivered in less than a week. Will purchase again from them for sure.

Great looking hjc cl-16 helmet - cmanzano   GA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Look, fit and finish.
    Cons: Needs more vents

I was looking for a great helmet in a hi-viz color that didn't look plain. The graphics on the CL-16 Machine helmet are not too busy and look great on the Hi-Viz color. The helmet looks awesome with the Green Face Shield as well. It is fairly light and very comfortable. It fits me well. My only complaint is that the top vent is not large enough for proper air flow which makes the helmet too warm in the summer but great for winter. For the price though, it is a great buy from a great helmet company. I would recommend it to everyone who is on a tight budget looking for a great helmet.

good helmet - Barry A   RI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: style, quality
    Cons: larger than average

Nice helmet, very good value for the Price. Previous HJC CL-14 fit perfectly as a Medium, had to exchange this for a Large. Compared the 2 and the CL-16 taller, wider with a rounder diameter. With that, its still lightweight and comfortable to wear. Air flows nicely thru, and really like the style.

CL-16 Fierce Green Helmet - Chef Luca   NY Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Fierce Helmet, Well Constructed, Easy Shield Removal & Installation
Cons: Some Fogging During Idle, Seems Tight on Ears at Times

I am a first-time rider and an HJC helmet was recommended by a fellow rider. I liked the graphic, easy onoff of the shield, price, removalcleaning of padding and as the wife would say that's a fierce looking helmet I feel very safe and am enjoying my purchase-I have worn helmet 4 times, may have to get used to it not ever riding before and the ritual of wearing a helmet.

CL-16 Shock - Don Z.   NV Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Looks great. Good air flow. Initial snug fit, but not bad. Should loosen up.
    Cons: Extremely noisy

Just got this helmet. Upgraded from a CL-14 that I've had for 5-6 years. Visor changes are a snap - 10 seconds. My big complaint is the noise. First tried it without ear plugs. Sounds like a freight train going through a tunnel. Just brutal. Then tried it with plugs. Somewhat better, but stll to loud. My old CL-14 is more quiet without plugs as the Shock is with plugs. If you can, try one out before you lay down your green. Disappointed to say the least.

Beautiful Helmet - Big-D   AZ Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Color Scheme is awesome, extremely light weight, very comfortable, allows for perfect fit and visability
    Cons: Sizes run Small

I first purchased this helmet in a Large. I have several other helmets in various brands and they are all in Large and fit very nicely. However, this helmet in a Large was way too tight, so much so I bought another in a X-Large. Now it fits perfect so I can wear this helmet for really long period with no pain or discomfort from it being too tight. And it is not too big either, the fit is perfect.I would have rated this helmet a 5-Star except because I had worn the first helmet in Large, I was not able to return it and had to purchase a second in XL. Ultimately costing me twice as much. However, I like this helmet so much, it was worth it to me to make the double purchase. The other helmet in Large I gave it to a very good friend that it fit just right. The construction of this helmet meets or exceeds the much higher priced helmets in the 600 price range

Beautiful Helmet - Big-D   AZ Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Super Light Weight, Great Graphics, Superb Construction, Comfortable once on
Cons: Size runs a little small, really right putting over head.

Although my helmet size has always run border line between a Large & Extra-Large, it seems every helmet I have ever bought, the large has always fit just right the way a helmet should fit, while I have bought two helmets in Extra-Large only to have them move around too much, being told they were too big for me.After receiving this HJC RPHA-X Factor helmet in Large, I couldn't wait to slip it on. When first putting it on, it almost wouldn't go over my head. Realizing its new and may need to adjust to my head shape, I forced it over my head. Once on, it fit snug, but comfortable. It doesn't feel overly tight, nor do I think it will make my head sore. The only problem at this point is the initial fitting over my head. It seems the opening is really tight, almost as though it has the opening on a Medium and the shell is a large.I will try it for several rides and see how it feels once broke in. I love the helmet. It is one of the finest looking helmets I've ever owned and I have 11 helmets from several manufacturers.

    Andy from Tennessee
It IS a half helmet with inherent and expected noise, but unbearable at highway speeds for any distance. This is the worst I've experienced in over 35 years of riding. Got a pair of the helmets last month just prior to a trip to Key West from Tennessee. My spin on the problem is that the ear flap/chin strap attachment point is too far lateral, attaching at the shell instead of nearer to the ear, creating a 3/4 inch gap between the ear flap and the ear. This causes a turbulence that is unbearable even with ear plugs. HJC needs to move the attachment point inboard or add some padding. As much as I like other features, I won't be wearing this helmet except to putt-putt around locally at lower speeds. Could not exchange since I had worn it on the Key West trip!

The sizing information is provided by the manufacturer and does not guarantee a perfect fit. However, we are happy to assist you with any needed exchanges.

Note: the RPHA-Max seems to run a little smaller due to the thick padding and smaller overall shell design. Most size exchanges have been to up a size. So if you are on the fence. We recommend thinking about going up a size to start. However, please keep in mind the padding will break in some and a helmet that is a little tight vs. too loose for safety.
