Information and Details about the Firstgear TPG Rainier Jacket - Hi Vis Yellow
made by Firstgear
Firstgear is proud to announce the long-awaited return of the TPG Rainier!
The new TPG features the latest generation of D3O® armor protection, T-5 Evo Pro, for the highest degree of impact protection exceeding all CE Level 2 standards. Active micro porous particles in the Cocona waterproof liner utilize body heat to help speed up evaporation and accelerate breathability keeping you dry in the most extreme conditions.

Firstgear evolved their legendary Rainier shell to create the perfect jacket to attack adventures all season when properly outfitted. We suggest using some of the money saved on this closeout to invest in a set of Base Layers and Liners to extend this shells impressive range. Proper Base Layers help wick moisture away from your body which is important in both hot and cold conditions. In combination with a high end Liner you'll notice improved comfort and mobility in any variety of environment you might experience on an adventure ride, or even on your daily commute. Throw in a heated liner and extend this jacket down below freezing temps!

The ultra soft fleece collar hides a comfy hood to guard against any form of precipitation. The hood is unobtrusive and stretches with head and neck movement under your helmet. Seams feature reflective piping insuring you'll be seen and effectively designed intake and exhaust vents keep the climate inside the jacket controlled. Wrist gaiters are an added bonus if you prefer not to wear over the cuff gloves.

These options paired with the quality of construction and materials make this an amazing deal at the closeout price.

As for fitment, this jacket is on the snug side. Please consider sizing up to make room for layers and heated gear. Some customers have even gone up two sizes to achieve their desired fit.

Features:
  • Cocona® waterproof breathable shell
  • D3O® T-5 Evo Pro armor at shoulders, elbows and back
  • Waterproof zipper treatments throughout
  • Inner cuff wrist gaiter

    Cons: None

High quality construction and materials, very versatile design and features.

Fits well but runs small - K100Motorrad   MN Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Fairly light weight, appears to have good ventilation, long tails.
Cons: Sewn in sleeve cuffs, may remove those for more air

I am 6'4, 230 lbs and usually take either a L or XL. Per the reviews I ordered an XXL and the fit is good, just enough room for a sweatshirt. There is no liner so the shoulder pads catch when putting it on. Nice jacket especially for the sale price.

Very Nice - Jer   OH Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Awesome protection, visiibilty, comfort, and expected durability. PRICE
Cons: Pads are hard to place

Only rode once in it but I can tell already that the jacket is 100 top notch. The only downfall is getting the elbow pads in the correct place... Took about 30-45 min. This is a very small issue and really nit-picking... Very nice jacket and kept me really comfortable during my 45min ride into work at 38 degrees.

Great outer layer - Hamza   NY Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Lightweight, colroful, come with the new protection, lots of pockets, visible
    Cons: [None]

What a great jacket Finally a jacket without a liner which I throw out anyway. Exactly what I wanted and needed, I can be seen now, Add to all this the price I got it for and you can't lose. AWESOME

happy camper - Dave   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: comfort
    Cons: scatchy neck

I have been riding with this jacket for approximately three months now. So far I really love it. I borrowed an old First gear jacket from a friend. I was also able to see if the large size was appropriate for me. I am 5.8 ht 200 lbs and although the arms are slightly long the coat does fit a little snug in the chest. I can still fit a heavy hoodie underneath if I need. I have used it in weather as cold as 40, with just a long sleeve shirt underneath. It was a little chilly but bearable. The other day I rode in 79 and it was great with the vents open. I have not tested the rain proof portion but have no doubt it will work fine. The only complaint is the neck area can be a little scratchy without material between you and the coat.

Nice Jacket - SeneySavage   MI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Nice armor, flaps over zippers protect pocket openings, lots of pockets
Cons: Order a larger size than normal

This is a very nice jacket, lightweight, protective and it keeps the bad weather out. It is good quality and the price was nice also.

TPG Jacket - Patti   OH Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Lightweight, durable material
    Cons: No thermal liner

Have not worn it in the rain yet but this new type of outer material is unlike any ballistic material. It's lightweight and supposedly waterproof and breathable. That would be a dream come true for all riders. Just hope the material is really durable. Just wonder why this jacket was so heavily discounted Hopefully it holds up in wet weather. You can wear your own fleece or other liner under the jacket as there is ample room.

Smaller than addressed - carlkb   KY Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Closeout Price
Cons: Smaller than videos are saying.

In Firstgear jackets a 2XL is usually a little roomy, which is fine. I've watched several video's on this jacket and all said it runs big so I thought about going with a Large but ordered 2XL. The 2XL fit tight, absolutely no room for base layers. Being so small I decided to skip the 3XL a just go to 4XL, which I have never worn in my life. Actually it wasn't too bad, allot of room for my base layers but it was extremely long, close to my knees. I would have kept it if it was a shorter cut. By the way, I'm 6'0 at 225 lbs for reference. So I sent it back to exchange for a 3XL and it runs a tad small but changing my base layers a little I can make it work. I have to say that Competition Accessories was great though the complete process. I mailed the 4XL, second return, on Jan. 11-16 and received the 3XL Jan.13-16, now how could an exchange get any better than this The first jacket , 2XL, took the same account of time Thanks Comp. Access. How this jacket will perform, I can't answer that, but hopefully it will stand up the Firstgear's standards.

Good product - Woodman   VA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Covers really well, protects against rain and roomy for addtional layers
Cons: With a layer underneath, top snap won't snap

Just what I wanted. A layered approach exactly how I've used other jackets while riding. I don't know about full water protection since we won't have severe downpours in the DC area until spring, but it does a great job with the rains we have this fall.. Trust their sizing chart... it claimed I should have a 2XLT which I've never worn in any other jacket, but in this case, they were right and I was wrong. Exchanged without any issue.Well made, with elastic cuffs inside the sleeve that add that little bit of wind protection in the cold without me putting on gauntlets.

Nice jacket - David C.   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Design, fit is good, overall quality very good
Cons: Vents a bit small and hard to zip when riding.

This is a great jacket. I have not used it a lot, so far, but it is a quality piece. I like the concept of no liner, as we all have sweaters, electric vests, etc. I'm using one of those puffy lightweight down jackets and it works perfectly. Plus, I can wear it when I arrive. My only concern is I live in a very hot part of the country, Palm Springs, and I wish the vents were a little larger. Also, they are hard to zip and unzip when riding.

Firstgear TPG Rainier Jacket - Hi Vis - Banks   MO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Waterproof, Tapered, Visible, Waterproof
    Cons: Runs Slightly Small

Bought this Jacket about a month ago ... Thanksgiving. Overall I would say I was very pleased with this purchase. I had been looking for an inherently Waterproof Motorcycle Jacket. That is, one that did not require me to stop every time it looked like rain to put in a liner. That was the first and only absolute requirement. I have one piece Aerostitch Roadcrafter suit and was looking for an alternative 2 piece outfit as an alternative that was Waterproof, had lots of Pockets and was visible in bad weather. My choice was a pair of Aerostitch AD-1 pants and, after listening to the opinion of some Rainier Jacket owners I ride with, the Hi Vis Firstgear Rainier Jacket. In my opinion just about a perfect combination. Since I got this jacket in November, I have not ridden in very hot weather, only up to about 65 or so and down to a low of about 30. Climate control has proven excellent to so far. At 65 I rode with just a long sleave shirt over a T-Shirt and I was quite comfortable with the vents closed. I have no doubt that come summer, that with the vents open, my experience will be favorable. My friends who own one all comment on how good the venting is. At 30 degrees I road only with a long sleeve Turtleneck and my Firstgear Heated Jacket Liner set at about 70 or so. I was fully comfortable with no complaints. My rain experience is about an hour at 35- 38 degrees. I stayed fully comfortable and no rain leaked in anywhere. And with adjustable sleeves I was able to tighten my gloves over the ends so no water leaked in at those 2 points either. I can only attest to the Hi-Vis safety effect once as I was stopped at a stopsign the other night and an elderly lady pulled up next to me, rolled down her window and told me she would have seen my if my Jacket didn't reflect her headlights so well. My wife has commented on this factor also when she shined my flashlight on my the night I got it. The fit comes across as lightly tailored. I am 6' tall and 200 lbs with a 36 waist and 33 in arms. It tapers slightly towards the waist and fits my arms perfectly. If they were much longer I would need a tall size so the sleaves would cover my wrist. However they fit that bit perfectly right now. I purchased an Extra Large and while it fits with the Heated Liner on underneath, it is none to big. It would be a bit too tight if I tried to cover the TPG liner over the Heated Jacket. But for me it is perfect. If I am going to ride hours on end in temperatures consistently under 25, I'll wear my Aerostitch Roadcrafter. But as I get older, I rarely ride long distances in temperatures that cold. For those people much larger than me say 38-40 waist and 225lbs or more, you would probably be better off in an xxl. Summary. Fit is good, but runs slightly on the small size. If waterproofness and temperature flexibility without the need of a removable liner to stay dry is a priority as it is with me then I give this Jacket 4 odd stars. However if you are more rotund I might look at something slightly bigger or shaped a bit different. Overall it is perfect for me ... particularly at the price. Banks

Pros: Quality finish, good tail, good sleeve length
Cons: Short on outside pockets, no liner.

    Reasonable value.

Great Jacket more pro's than Cons.. - captsam54   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Hi Vis, 3DO armor, long tail, waterproof zippers, good fit, great construction..
Cons: Tight neck, stick on 3DO armor, gets dirty easy

Great Jacket.. Love the Layer system... This jacket runs a little small I think.. I ordered a large but had to send it back for an XL. In order to have room for the layers.. and I have the FirstGear Layers. Like the 3DO armor.. but wish it was in mesh pockets instead of just stuck on w velcro.. easily moved I know but hard to get on and off as you get caught on the armor. I am a big fan of FirstGear.. Got the TPG pants too.. Everyone comments on the Hi-Vis and that is a good thing.. The construction is great The Hi-Vis does get dirty easy though so you need to be aware of and dirty stuff on your bike or you will be wearing it.....Love the venting system and the waterproof zippers. I must add that if you zip and button it up.. it is tight at the neck.....

Great 3 Season Jacket - captsam54   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Comfortable 3DO armor Hi Viz waterproof breathable
Cons: neck is tight, yellow gets dirty easy armor is sort of free floating there w velcro

I love this jacket and it is comfortable to ride in and I feel very protected... But the neck can be tight if you zip it all the way up and fasten the top button.. The 3DO armor is stuck in place by velcro and not in pockets.. which can make it difficult to put on because the armor is kinda of just sticking out there.. But you can move it where you want to I guess that is what they were thinking.. I would rather have it in pockets. People complement me on the hi viz... but the yellow attracts dirt easily.. I bought this from Competition Accessories because it is the best price I could find... I sent it back because I ordered a large and it was too small if your gonna layer up.. The XL lets me adjust..

Mostly Good - Jim   OR Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Fit and Finish - Features
    Cons: Movable Armour

In a simple low side this coat would probably do OK. The problem is the amour is attached to the liner and is not tied in a fixed relationship to the shell. Fit and finish are very good. The shell seems to allow some air exchange, it is not like wearing a plastic bag. I have not tested the waterproofing yet. The collar is an inch too tall but not scratchy. Getting in and out is easy. I like the cuff design. Overall I give this coat a 4 but I give protection a 2.

Smaller than Advertised - Brian F   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Sale Price and Weight
    Cons: Much smaller than advertised

I usually wear an Extra large jacket and in Olympia I wear a large. For this jacket, they talk about it being a generous american cut, that is only a shell, so you add your own base layers. Based on that I ordered a large. I couldn't even put the jacket on it was so small. I have an older First Gear Kilimanjaro jacket that had a liner, that was XL, so I returned the TPG large and ordered a XL. The XL was still too small. I could just get it on. No layer would fit under it. I don't have overly large guns but could not fully do a curl with the jacket on. I returned the XL and ordered a XXL. If you look on the First gear website for sizing I should be swimming in the XXL, but it just fit with a very thin LL Bean down jacket under it, especially in the bicep area. The XXL TPG is the same size as the XL Kilimanjaro Jacket. I would definitely order one size larger than your normal size.On the good side, the TPG is much lighter and more flexible than my older Kilimanjaro.
