cool and dry - Vintage ME
Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: body armor fits securely, very breathable, soft neck and cuffs, waterproof
Cons: no zip in thermal liner
I bought this jacket for my wife so that we didn't have to deal with taking a waterproof liner and then a thermal liner in and out which was very tedious on her previous jacket. This jacket was such a surprise We rode a couple hundred miles the first chance we got on a day that was well into the 80's and she stayed cool and comfortable especially when we opened the zippered vents front and back. We went out on another day and got caught in a soaking rain storm, not just a drizzle, this was a downpour We arrived at our destination and her upper body was completely dry, amazing. I was so impressed that I now own the man's version, Ranier, and we've been through heat and rain again, cool, dry and comfortable. These jackets are quite an investment but they are worth the extra that you pay. We are strongly considering the pants to go along with the jacket as I am sure they would keep us cool and dry as well. I also want to mention a couple of little details like the onboard waterproof hood to wear under your helmet which keeps water from running down your neck and the the soft material that they use on the neck and cuffs of the sleeves. I do a lot of head checks and have been no irritation due to this soft material, nice touch and the cuffs on the sleeves are the same. The velcro adjustment make it so that you can easily adjust the jacket for a custom fit, nice. Very robust waterproof zippers, easy to use with gloves on and convenient pockets to store stuff. I would recommend this jacket without a hesitation but again it is expensive, but hey, that's what winter is for, to get ready for next riding season. Just as a side, I have a very nice American made, horsehide leather jacket and I would put the Rainer or Monarch up against it any day for comfort andor safety.
