Hey guys this is Reuben with Competition Accessories and welcome to our video review of the Bell Star. This is the flag ship helmet for Bell. Now for 2013 Bell has actually made some significant changes to the bell star. Even if your familiar with the Bell Star it has been out for a while now, you probably want to watch this video because the newest update to it definitely addresses some of the issues to it that new old one had, mainly sizing. We will talk about that first, the old Bell Star was almost a full size different from the average helmet size if you were going to prepare to even there RS-1. It tended to run about a size big and it was kind of a long oval head shape as well which made it fit a little less than the average person and kind of more for the narrow nitch as far as fit goes. What they have done with the 2013 Bell Star helmet is they have actually taken the same head form that they use in the Bell RS-1 which a very popular helmet right below the Bell Star also a fantastic helmet and they have brought over the same intermediate oval shapes so basically it rounds out the shell just a little bit with the internal shape of the helmet. That means there is more room side to side and less room from front to back. The big key difference to note is that the new Bell Star is now true to size so if you wear about a size medium in any other helmets then you should be a medium in the Bell Star, make sure to double check their size chart on our website you can measure your head. If you have a Bell Star that is prior to the current 2013 or newer sizing your more than likely need to change which size your wearing. Now we will talk about the features that make this helmet just a fantastic helmet, first thing first, the outer shell construction has not changed it is still their Tri-Matrix composite shell which is a blend of fiberglass, carbon fiber, and Kevlar. You are getting a very high end strong composite shell that will disperse impact over the broadest area possible and and the other thing that I love about the star is its aerodynamic shape it has this really nice spoiler that flows right off the back of the helmet and it flows through the air really cleanly. Its one of the most stable helmets that I have worn at speeds over triple digits it is just rock solid you dont feel like you are shaking and it gives you a really good feeling when your on the bike. In fact Bell includes in the box a little stick on lip for the rear spoiler for some reason I dont have it up here with me, it sticks on the back and for high speed use if you are at the track you can install that it just sticks on and adds about a millimeter to the back of the spoiler and it is going to provide a little bit more stability for high speed use. Next thing to talk about is the ventilation system. The Bell Star has been highly regarded as one of the most if not the most well vented helmets on the market today. You have a chin bar vent that is nice and large and it directs air up onto the face shield, it opens and closes with a simple slider switch. Then you have a large forehead vent. You can see there are four intake vents that run right across the forehead area here. These will help direct air into and on the forehead and around to your temples. This is something a lot of helmets are lacking, a lot of helmets don't have any vents in that area there. Up in the upper portions of the shell here you have two chimney style vents. These function just like ram air scoops, operate with sliders, slide those back and you are going to have lots of air forced down inside the helmet. When you open these you can actually feel a lot of air flow inside and throughout the helmet. With the Bell Star you can tell that it is flowing air, thats how good the ventilation system is on this helmet. Now the rear has a lot of exhaust vents as well. We talked about this rear spoiler which adds stability, it also incorporates some exhaust vents out the back. As you ride an area of low pressure is created behind the helmet and it draws the warm air right out the back of the helmet to keep you cool and comfortable. One thing to point out on this shell, you can see this ridge here and that's part of that ventilation system built into the shell itself, when the air comes in it actually has somewhere to go. A lot of helmets just drill through the EPS liner which is the foam inside. This actually has air channels or passages built into the shell and the EPS liner. This way it can cover as much area as possible on your head to help keep you cool. The face shield has quite a few things to it that I really like. Number one is there quick release system. Quick release is what Bell calls their base plate mechanism for swapping out the face shield. It is super simple, raise the shield all the way up and you will see a trigger on both sides of the helmet just hit that and the face shield pops right off. To put it back on all you have to do is line up the pin and it pops right back into place. It is really simple and easy to change out face shields. This shield has what they call NutraFog 2. This is an anti-fog coating that they put on the inside of the shield, it is really nice for cooler weather or wet weather conditions where fogging is an issue. Its also anti-scratch coated and UV protected and it has a really nice ratcheting system. It has little micro detentes throughout the range you can see it ratchets all the way up and down until it gets to this one position and it is a really nice cracked position. This for city riding or low speeds or if your stopped at a light you don't want to lift it all the way up you can just crack it and get some air to flow throughout the helmet. Some people might say that is a bit much of a crack rather to be able to just barely crack it which you can actually do. It does close really nice and securely against the gasket which obviously helps from preventing water and unwanted wind from coming inside the helmet. You also have a face shield locking mechanism. So you can tilt this towards the back and that is actually going to lock the shield down. For you guys that are doing track days and high speed riding a lot of times if your riding really fast say 150 mph and you turn your head to check whose next to you or look behind you. That's mostly for the moto gp guys and not the average rider. Lock that shield down and that will prevent from any vacuum pulling the shield open or anything like that. If you slides this towards the front it actually cracks the shield just a little so there is that nice really low sitting position that will help circulate a little bit more air into the helmet without letting in tons of air or dirt or rain. A lot of times when its raining out fogging can be an issue in any conditions even with that anti fog coating no anti fog coating can prevent all the fog. Sometimes the weather is just to bad depending on that. Real briefly I will talk about the solifex shield because that is one of the best things about the Bell Star that there is this face shield available for it and that's the shield that I have here in the package. If you are familiar with it then you are familiar with transition lenses for eye glasses and that's incorporating that technology into a face shield. It retails for about a 120 bucks, it fits the Bell Star as well as a lot of their other helmets and it darkens with exposure to uv and it has a big range any where from a mid tint to a smoke all the way to a light smoke and then perfectly clear. Essentially you can leave this shield on and ride with it year around. Before we go inside the helmet we have a shipping scale that will weigh the size medium Bell Star Helmet and you will see it weighs just over three and a half pounds. Its not going to be super light but its not heavy either and one thing I will say is wearing the Bell Star I tend to feel very very safe. Sometimes you get into these really high end helmets that are super light and it doesnt feel like you have much on your head which personally makes me question how much of an impact can this thing really take. Moving on to the inside of the helmet, you have something really cool right at the chin strap which is kind of silly but is a really nice feature and that is the magnetic chin strap keeper. Just a little detail some people might think of it as a gimmick but it works really well. It will find its place there and wont come loose. The inside material that the Bell Star uses is also found in their moto 9 which is their off road helmet. Its called their X-static XT2 fabric. Now this fabric is actually lined with silver thread and silver has some unique properties. It is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and it is going to help prevent odor so if you are using this helmet for more competitive type riding or it is really hot where you live and you tend to sweat a lot this fabric is going to absorb moisture it will also help prevent odor and bacteria inside the helmet. The other nice thing about it is a lot of times a manufacturer says they have anti bacterial liner, they will coat this material with some kind of treatment that prevents bacteria to grow on it. The problem with that is that treatment wears away and it eventually washes out, especially if you wash the inside of the helmet. That is not the case with the Bell Star helmet, that silver lining will help prevent that from happening. You have a fully removable interior, you do get a nice integrated chin curtain as well. Bell does a great job with their interiors, its just a really nice feeling fabric and it really looks like quality. The Bell Star ranges from 550 dollars to 700 dollars depending on which graphic you go with. If you look at the quality and the red stitching and knowing it has the silver thread throughout the helmet you are getting what you paid for. You can see with the cheek pad how much it is contoured and all the curvature it has to it which really cradles to your cheek and ear. I wont say this is a super quiet helmet, having that many vents on the helmet means it have a lot of air flow throughout the helmet and will have more wind noise because of that. You also have speaker pockets for the communication system if you choose to install one. There is plenty of room behind the ear here also you will see they have some foam here where you can also install the speakers, so you can either open this pocket in the cheek pad and stick the speaker there or you can stick it in if you want to permanently mount it you can remove this foam and you can insert the speaker in that opening. This foam is a critical piece also because if you aren't putting speakers in you do not want to have a hollow piece in between the ear and the shell itself, you want to have something there to absorb sound. Another nice thing is if you do install a speaker into this pocket it is going to be a little bit closer to your ear which is important when you are installing a communication system, or listening to music, or a GPS. To remove the cheek pads it is just a couple of snaps and the tab that goes around the side of the helmet. You can also remove the chin strap cover so a little snap on the back there and you can slide those right off. The crown liner comes out by two snaps at the back and then around the front you actually have a plastic gasket that goes all the way around and this is the one you have to be a little bit more careful with because you don't want to tear the fabric but essentially your pulling the plastic out. You can see they use different pieces of foam or density's of foam throughout the top of the lining just to give you the most comfort and a lot of helmet manufacturers will put mesh on top of this to just give it a kind of finished look. What Bell does is they give you that real nice red stitching and they just leave it open because they want as much air to reach you as possible. We talked about the air passages in the inside of the helmet on the shell itself and here you can see the air passages they have actually built in the EPS liner. This liner is what actually absorbs impact so the shells job is to spread that impact of the greatest area possible and then this foam that you see here is what actually slows your head down inside the helmet so you don't get a brain injury. You have a ton of ventilation with this helmet. Overall for 550-700 dollars the Bell Star is definitely up there in price compared to some other high end manufacturers though. I would say you are getting a lot of bang for your buck with the Bell Star especially if you toss in the solifex face shield which you cannot get with any other helmet manufacturers its a fantastic helmet. Our Thoughts
Bell Star Helmets come with a standard clear faceshield but upgrades are also available such as Snow Shield Kits, Transitions SOLFX Shield, Race Click Release Shield and also in Other Faceshield Colors as you desire to change your look.

The Bell Star is manufactured in the U.S.A. and the sizing seems to run true to most other brands so its a safe bet to order the size you would normally get.

And there is no worries when you need to clean up the bugs on your helmet. How many bugs you have depends on your speed!! This helmet stays fairly clean but when the bugs build up, a little squirt with cleaner and a quick wipe from a micro fiber towel makes it look as good as new.

ARROW ZIPPED HELMET - BELL ARROW ZIPPED XSMALL   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: REMOVABLE LINER, AMPLE AIR VENTS, REMARKABLE PAINT JOB, GOOD QUALITY HELMET
Cons: SIZE RUNS SMALL, STRAP NOT LONG ENOUGH, NO REPLACEABLE CHEEK PADS

THE VENTS ARE EASY TO USE FOR MY DAUGHTERS 8 YEAR OLD FINGERS, THE CHIN STRAP IS TOO SHORT AND MAKES IT HARD TO FASTEN IT BY YOURSELF. THE CHEEK PADS SEEM TO BE OVER STUFFED AND WERE NOT COMFORTABLE TO WEAR. BELL DECIDED NOT TO MAKE REPLACEMENT CHEEK PADS FOR THIS MODEL HELMET. A REMOVABLE LINER IS A MUST HAVE. THE AIR VENTS ARE SUFFICIENT AND EASILY OPERATED. LOVE THE PAINT JOB ON THIS OVER ALL GREAT HELMET. THIS HELMET SHELL IS WELL CONSTRUCTED AND COMFORTABLE TO WEAR ONCE THE CHEEK PADS WERE ADJUSTED.

My first bell 500 great helmet ordered size medium has a great fit. The side view when riding is much better than with a full face helmet. Only con is that it doesnt have the soft cushion line the fullface that i was use to. But i still switch back and forth to my scorpion fullface here and there. Keep riding...

I'm a Harley rider, I hate wearing a helmet, so I ride with a non-dot half helmet.....But I also drag race. And to race on the quarter mile track, you must have a full dot helmet.....I went on-line and found this web site. I got a great deal A great looking helmet that fits great and is very light weight and the cost was very affordable.

Pros: great fit and finish, SNELL approved
    Cons: none

considering that a full face helmet is a bit awkward in it's self, I love my Vortex. I bought one and after having it a few weeks. bought another in a different color. Good bargain price for a SNELL approved. I got mine for my motorcycle but needed the sanctioned safety approval for auto racing.

Pros: Good Fit, Good Finish, and Well made.
    Cons: None so far.

This is my third Bell Custom 500. They all have held up well and looked good for the time I have owned them. The only issue I have had is the chrome piping around the edge starts pulling away after a time. It is an easy fix with a little dab of adhesive. I would recomend this helmet to anyone.

Pros: Retro style, quite when used with face shield, low price
    Cons: None yet

As another reviewer said Mine does not have the shiny metal trim around it When I opened the box I was disappointed because I thought the trim added to the retro style. I called Compacc to complain, I chose to not return it, not a deal breaker for me. I was told the photo would be updated, but as of this writing it's still there with the chrome trim. It have an XL and it fits well, was a little snug at first but better after each wearing, just right now after a few months. Lack of cooling vents make it surprisingly quiet with bubble face shield on my un-faired bike. I'm glad I bought this helmet.

Great Helmet - Super Cheap - KLK   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Super cheap price, super fast and free shipping, SNELL rated, well known model helmet.
Cons: A little loud at illegal speeds, but I have nothing to compare it to.

The cost of this helmet was almost half of what everybody else is selling theirs for with the pretty colors and designs on them. Of course, I spent an afternoon trying on different helmets at different shops until I settled on this model and a specific size. Compacc was the only place I found a solid metallic silver Vortex in my size. I couldn't be happier with it.

    Pros: Comfort, safety, value

Great value - Arthur   MO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Quality built, great optional transition shield
    Cons: shell is large

I currently have an Arai, Shoei and Shark helmet. The Shoei is being retired so I got this Bell Airtrix Speedway as it's replacement. My Arai is an RX-Q, the Shoei is the RF-1000. Not sure what the Shark is, other than it's a POS compared to Arai and Shoei, lol. Anyway, the build quality is comparable to Arai and Shoei in most regards. The vents are not as robust, the gasket around the eyeport does not seal as nice or tight. The great thing about both Arai and Shoei, is that each model of helmet comes in 5 different shell sizes. Bell still uses 3 shells, so you get a shell larger than you really need bulk. All this being said, the Bell is still a great value. I love the ear pocket depressions as I have a Sena SMH-10. The lining is really nice. The transitions shield option is fantastic People try to compare these helmets by price - just remember you can find great deals on the Arai or Shoei just as well if you search in the right place, so price arguments don't hold a lot of weight. I got an absolute killer deal from Competition Accessories on my Bell, too good to pass by. All in all, the RS-1 is a very good helmet. So far, I am happy with my purchase and look forward to 5 or so years of service from it. If you have never worn an older Shoei or an Arai, you won't notice the shell size, as most manufactures use 3 shells as well - that's how they cut costs.

Scott, Florida - Bell RS-1. A Great Helmet   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Lightweight, Superfast easy face-shield change, ventilation, fit, stabile
Cons: A little tight around the ears

This is a fantastic helmet. The fit and finish is on par with many more expensive helmets. Graphics are amazing and the hi-viz yellow really pops. Ventilation is very good without being noisy. I wear a small in my Arai xd and Shoei x11 and the fit on this helmet was snug to tight. Ordered the 30mm cheek pads and boom perfect fit. Always remove the cheek pads to check size as your fitting your head NOT your face. A very smart man from Arai taught me that.I really wanted the black and high viz yellow but nobody knew anything about it. Days after getting the Airtix Speedway helmet I saw it high-viz and black advertised for the same price. I love this helmet so much I ordered the second helmet, and is awsome. Dark tint shield and gold iridium and switch out in seconds. FANTASTIC

Pros: Fits great, love the drop visor and adjustability
Cons: Little hard to zip the neck roll warmer on and off.

I have two other Bell Helmets, so I am a fan of their products. They fit my head shape. This is the only half helmet that gives you a little sun brim, drop visor, neck warmer that is removable, and adjustable fit That adjustability is what makes this helmet superior. It prevents any sort of lift even when riding at freeway speeds. Also, with the warmer installed, I have ridden in 60 degree weather and been perfectly comfortable. I have also found that the sun shield does not interfere with glasses as others have said. Great product

Pros: Quite, Light weight, Stable, Style & design
    Cons: None so far

This is an excellent helmet for 3 season riding with open vents. I guess it wont be a problem in the winter too. Its very very quite, my 2013 Daytona red lining isn't noisy to me anymore. Good build quality and aerodynamics tested at high speed. You do hear the wind if you tilt your head sideways though. Has room for Bluetooth attachments. Visor setting are pretty neat too. The colors and design get you noticed on the road. Thumbs up to Compacc.com pricing, there's none better. I am very satisfied with the purchase. Do measure your crown before buying though, this helmet is snug by design. I didn't order a size up though and the helmet is now broken in nicely.

two thumbs up - Paul   NC Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: lightweight, easy face-shield removal, good visability
    Cons: ventilation ports, chin strap

Overall - a great helmet. This is my third one. Love the light weight and visibility. The face shield change-out is lightning quick and secure. The face pads are snug and comfortable. That being said, the ventilation ports need improvement. They are not easy to adjust with gloves on and only give moderate airflow on hot days. Additionally, the chin strap can also be cumbersome to fit with gloves on.Still, a great helmet that is worth the money when compared to more expensive rivals such as Shoei and Arai.

Cons: A little breezy for cool mornings even with the vents closed

This is a nice helmet. I got a large which fit a little tighter than the Shoei's but Felt very good once I got used to it. I like the tighter feel. It vents well when it's warm. The price at Competition Accessories was fantastic too.

Pros: inexpensive, comfortable, good airflow, well made.
    Cons: [None]

I bought this for a track day. I neded a full face helmet for Cal. Superbike school, and didnt plan on using it much. But with its Snell rating and good reviews, thought id try it. Worked great, visor was clear and stayed shut at 140 speeds, with ear pluugs it didnt sound any louder than any other lid. Comfortable, my head is a 22 14, right between a SM..the Medium was a perfect fit. The airflow was good, lots of vents that worked in hot southern weather. it comes with a hetmet bag, nose and chin valance. Lot of helmet for the money. It even looks pretty good. You cant tell its a low end lid unless you look real close..I have had a bunch of 3-400 lids, and other than finish, is just as nice and has all the same features of higher ones.. hope this helps

As good as my RF-1100, possibly better. Excellent fit, quality, finish. Slightly lighter than the Shoei, and a lot quieter as well. Have used it both with and without a fairing on my bike and is is stable, no buffeting. Brow vents work very well...ran a track day on Memorial Day with temps around 100, could feel the ventilation working to cool off my head. Purchased the Airtrix, but exchanged it for a Gearhead and at the prices CompAcc sells them for, they are the helmet bargain of the year Excellent helmet for the money. Will eventually replace it with another.

Nice helmet - Heath   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Light, well ventilated, easy shield swap
Cons: magnet chinstrap hold easily pops loose while riding

So far the Bell Star is a very good helmet. The list of Pros for me are It won't fog, it moves a lot of air, it's light, and shield changes are easy. I have no comfort issues when wearing the Star. I added thicker cheek pads to improve fit and it also made the helmet more quiet. Air moving across the bottom edge of the helmet is very loud. But this is subjective and will vary drastically depending on your bike, windscreen, your height, etc. My biggest Con is the magnet on the chinstrap comes loose a little too often, while riding. And the long chinstrap starts beating on the side of the helmet until I can manage to get it re-attached, or pull over and fix it. It's not easy to do while moving and wearing gloves. I think I will sew a little patch of velcro on the strap to secure it. This is the 2nd best helmet I've ever owned....with ONLY the Shark RSR2 being better.

Purchased the pit boss helmet. The fit is adjustable to your exact size. The neck curtain that attaches by a zipper to the bottom of the helmet is warm and very comfortable. The dark shield that is pulled down from the helmet is very handy and easy to access. The adjustment feature on the back has easy access and makes a custom fit very simple. Cons: A little noisy, three big Bell logos

When I measured my head I was kind of between a medium and large size. I went with the large and glad I did. It fit pretty snug when I first got it. After a short time the cheek pads relaxed a bit and the helmet fits comfortably snug. I did start to notice more wind noise after though. The chin strap slack uses a magnet instead of a snap. My other riding friend is jealous of that.

I purchase a silver model on sale. The fit was perfect but you should use the chart from the Bell site for this helmet vs. the one on this site. The sizing is different. The quality is much better than expected and the only negative is the clip on the provided helmet bag broke the first time used which is not a big deal. The best value on a quality Snell 2010 helmet.

Cons: Odd sizing, with a 58-59 large instead of 59-60 large for other helmets

Fits great and really has a great looking appearance. Has very good vents for air and the visor will lock down, which many helmets don't. The same lever to lock the visor can be used to barely crack open the visor for fresh air and keep it in that position. Was being sold at a great discount at slightly less than 250 instead of the standard price of about 450. Overall a great helmet.

    Pros: [None]
    Cons: [None]

Been in higher end hjcs for my last couple of lids. I had read many good things about the rs1 and with the available transitions shield, thought I would give it a try. Super low closeout price at compacc didn't hurt either Right out of the box took it with me on a 4 day run through the southeast. It is the most quiet helmet I have ridden in to date. Shape allows a little more room front to back than my previous hjcs. More oval shape turns out to be a plus for me. I initially thought the liner might be a little rough, but helmet was comfortable even after 9 hours in the saddle. Things heated up on the way back to Florida and I'll call venting adequate, but not outstanding. Snug fit others mention around the cheeks is true, but I think this a big help to the helmet being quiet and never became uncomfortable. Really stable at speed and during side to side head checks. The lack of buffeting really helped hide the couple ounces extra it carries over my previous carbon helmet. Really happy with my purchase. Transition shield rocks

Bell wins with technology - ducatirider   MD Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: solid performer and cool shield to boot
Cons: paint durability may not be all that high

The fall and spring riding seasons are riddled with AM PM shield changes. For a small investment the solofx transition shield eliminates them all. ghe technology works flawlessly to simplify and increase the riding experience during dawn and dusk jaunts. More companies should learn from Bell in this category. The shield alone brought me over from a Shoei after more than 20 consecutive years in Shoei hats. No regrets after first 5000 miles and dozens of dawn and dusk rides. The fit on this lid is comparable to the X11 that it replaced. The vision field is slightly smaller. But, the best feature is that it doesn't whistle at speed. Paint has shown marks already from where the helmet is stored against a wall. Never experienced this with former lids, so expect durability of the graphics may not meet previous expectation. Still, a super value that I would purchase again.

Cons: Sizing is slightly on small side

This is a great helmet for the price at CA. It fits slightly small. I ordered the large, as I wear in an Arai, but it was too tight. I exchanged for an XL, which is just slightly loose. My head measures 59.5 cm., which falls between large and XL. With a little extra padding the XL is now comfortable. The helmet is quieter than my Arai due to a snugger fit around the sides and back of the neck. It is very stable at higher speeds. The best feature of Bell helmets is the optional Transitions visor. These are expensive, at 120, but fabulous The shield reacts quickly to changing light conditions and is never too light or too dark. Just right It is completely clear at night. No more changing visors or being caught out with the wrong one.

For the price, the Bell Vortex is a steal. All the features included in this mid-range helmet make it a great choice for anyone who doesn't want to spend the money to move up to an aria or a shoei. My only big complaint is the noise level. There are two tiny exhaust ports low on the back of the helmet that create an enormous amount of wind noise inside the helmet. Throw in some earplugs and you have a great helmet at an amazing price.

All in all I am pleased with this helmet. Could not believe the price for such a quality piece of equipment. Because it was silver for some reason it was 100.00 less than the other Vortex helmets. I do have one complaint however in that the brow vent allows so much air in that after about an hour my forehead starts to hurt really bad. Tried closing all of the vents but, air still gets in. I was able to reduce this quite a bit by removing the top liner and plugging the holes with foam insulation and then reinstalling the liner. Never did I ever think I would complain about a helmet that flows to much air. Now I love this helmet.

    Cons: square double d rings

I bought this helmet for my wife who is claustrophobic and she felt comfortable in this style of helmet. I believe this DOT approved helmet is well constructed, looks good and fits very well, especially due to the occipital adjustment band. Thus the helmet does not move around, fall back or forward in the wind. I also appreciate the added eye protection of the smoke tinted pull down visor which is extremely easy to use. The only thing I would have liked changed are the double d rings which are square and a little rough which could chafe or pinch against the skin in addition to looking a little cheap, it would have been better had Bell fitted the double d rings with a smooth metal and rounded corners.

Good for a rainy day helmet too. The features are very nice to have, the flip face eliminates taking helmet off at a quick store stop and then i'm on my way quickly. flip down visor seems kind of fragile but is a nice convenience. Helmet runs small but breaks in to a good snug fit.Ear pads prevented use of glasses but this was remedied by having a cobbler run a row of stitches through ear pad at glasses side piece location. Something i'll do with any helmet to have a snug fit with glasses.

I bought this as a replacement for my old Vortex that was getting pretty worn out. This one was on clearance, so I picked it up when I saw the deal they had. I think it is easily worth the full price, but at the clearance price, it was a no-brainer.Before the prior Vortex, I wore an Arai Profile, which is significantly more expensive, but not so much better than the Vortex to justify the price difference.I find the Vortex is very comfortable, Keep in mind that the padding will break in quite a bit, so make sure you get a tight fit. It will feel too tight for the first month, but that is what you want.As far as noise...it is noisier than the Arai Profile I wore, but with earplugs which you should be wearing anyway, the noise is not bothersome at all to me. I read some of the recommendations on blocking the vents behind the ear and tried that with my new Vortex. Not sure if it made that big of a difference. Also, I use a Sena SMH-10 and it fits just fine on this helmet using the clamp.

Aerodynamic - Robotman   PA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Visor, ventilation, no buffeting, paint scheme
Cons: Loud, lets air in in the chin area

Overall I am pleased with this helmet. I was still using my 2000 vintage Shoei RF-R when my son read something online that said you should replace your helmet every 5 years. The straps and liner were getting pretty ratty so I decided to get a new lid. This helmet is light and aerodynamic compared to the old Shoei. The way the visor locks and unlatches with the lever on the side is easy to use. I have been riding in the 50 degree spring air here in PA and it does let in a little more air around your chin than I would like but a scarf fixes that. In the summer that will actually be a plus. The vent system works great Both the top and front visor vent systems flow a lot of air when left open. The Airtex Speedway paint scheme seems correct for my Triumph Sprint ST and a black jacket. I like it a lot altogether. The helmet is a good value and has a good feature set. I bought a large and wear a 7-18 hat size. It's a good tight fit. I keep my hair pretty short. If there is one thing that is disappointing, it is how loud the helmet is. It is as loud as the old Shoei and I was expecting quieter. I think the gaps at the ears for a comm system are the culprit here. I might get a Bluetooth setup for talking to my son when we ride and maybe that will make it quieter... The Sprint has a more upright riding position than the pure crotch rocket bikes and maybe that makes a difference. The windshield on my bike dumps the air exactly in the center of the visor. That is based on where the bugs are hitting That could be a factor in the noise too. Really, I am just nit picking, it is a great helmet. I am 59 so I have seen the evolution of the full face and this is a good one.

There is a good amount of padding and although I haven't been on a long, hot ride yet, it appears to have good ventilation too. With this said, the helmet isn't heavy and fits snug but is comfortable. The added ear covers are easy to add on and fast to remove and keep ears very warm they also have slots to add speakersheadphones. The helmet looks good too. Just Purchased - Robert Simon   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Very low wind noise excellent fit
Cons: Sun Visor a little difficult to work

Well let me first say I own and ride a Trike with a shield, so I have a fair amount of wind protection to start off with. I wear a small in helmet size and the fit is excellent and the space for the speakers is pretty deep. I bought this to add the SMH10 at some point down the road. In the mean time I may just add some helmet speakers before I spend the extra dough on the SMH10. So I took a couple hour ride traveling at speeds from 35MPH to 70MPH. I found the drop down sun visor somewhat hard to actuate but easy to flip up. But its not a deal breaker for me and that is the only reason I gave the helmet 4 stars instead of 5.I have owned maybe 5 different types of helmets from to full face to modular types and all different manufactures. The funny thing is I have found wind noise worse in full face and modular helmets than type units. Why that is I dont know. Anyway the wind noise is very minimal. What really surprised me was that when I put the shield down the road noise was cut down by a good 30 to 40 percent. In fact it cut the motor noise down by so much that I thought if there was an engine problem I was not going to be able to hear it, so helmet speakers should work really well. The chin strap material is fairly thin compared to every other Helmet I have owned. Again if the chin strapped is locked in place this should not be a problem. It just has a cheap feel to it. When I was riding a 2 wheeler I loved the feel of security that a full face Helmet provided, on a Trike though I have more freedom to look around while riding and a seems to provide a lot more un-restricted views.I am not one to spend a ton of money on a helmet, and this came in at price point I needed. A chin guard would be nice but again I am riding a trike my risk of a crash due to road debris or loosing balance is nearly completely removed.

The shield system is excellent, and works perfect. However the negatives are a bit annoying. I'm guessing Bell is only using a few shell sizes, because my medium is huge, barely fits in my bikes cases, not a deal breaker, but it's big. My only other complaint is it's a very noisy helmet, vents open or not. My wife has a similar HJC that doesn't transfer nearly as much wind noise. Normally I would be a fan of bell helmets as they have protected me in the past off-road. To put it bluntly this is a cheap helmet. Shield scratches easy, breath guard comes out everytime front is lowered, magnafusion innovation relies on two iron on covers that come off within months. Many of these problems are fixed with tape and glue. I am about ready to throw it in the trash and go back to my old Shoei. Spend another 100 and get a decent helmet.
