Hey guys this is Reuben with Competition Accessories welcome to our huge comparison of shorty helmets now you might be calling these shorty helmets or half helmets whatever it might be if your looking for just a basic motorcycle helmet it has a cool style it can suit your riding style and match your bike we've got a ton of options on our website at Competition Accessories and really were just scratching the surface here what we wanted to do with this video is kinda just give you a over view of what kind of things you can look for when your shopping for a shorty helmet whether your a rider that typically rides with a full faced helmet and want something that just leaves the world a little bit more open for you or if you prefer to ride with no helmet at all and your traveling somewhere that requires you to put one on you know whatever the case may be there's some things that you might want to consider when your looking to purchase one of these. Now the shorty helmets that i have up here on the table range from anywhere around 50 bucks up to around 130 dollars for the Bell at the end there and it really comes down to what materials its made out of in terms of the shell itself and then some of the new little features and nuances between the helmets . If you go on our website in some cases you can find these helmets for under 50 bucks so it really depends on what your budget is as well. Down here at the end we have a Skid Lid original and Skid Lid has sold so many helmets in this style the shorty helmet a lot of people call all lids of this style Skid Lids because they have just sold that many its kind of like Kleenex when that's really a brand name . This is the Skid Lid original and again tons of different graphic options out there of the Skid Lids and very inexpensive pricing the price point is generally around 50 bucks so quick and easy to buy and find one one that you like put it on . Skid Lid does a good job at keeping low profile and throughout this video ill be able to show you what each one of these looks like on my head so you can check that out as well because that's something that a lot of guys have concern over is "Is it going to make my head look like a mushroom?" or " Is this going to be overly large on top of my head ". Now one thing that i want to talk about just real quick at the beginning of this video is Non-DOT helmets Nothing that we sell here at Competition Accessories is a Non-DOT helmet but the DOT is the Department Of Transportation and they have a set of safety standards when it comes to motorcycle helmets . Occasionally when you go to a bike week or something like that you might see some "novelty" style helmets which are not DOT approved . First of all if your in a helmet law state which requires helmets its not legal to wear one of those novelty style helmets and secondly honestly they just don't do much for you in a crash. The way a helmet works is this outer shell when you take a hit and spread the impact over a larger area and then the important piece is the foam lining inside this actually behind the liner of the helmet EPS foam which is essentially like what you would find in an ice cooler and what it does is it slows your head down so if you hit your head it slows your head down. Don't underestimate it doesn't take much of a hit to create brain injury's, wearing a good helmet can definitely save your life in certain crashes certain situations. Any ways Skid lid is always a good bang for the buck and tons and tons of different graphics available. The next one up here is a brand called Vega and this one here is again very low profile and comes with a few different options here. This one has snaps on it , so snaps or something is something you might want if you do maybe throw on a shield over the top over those you know retro style bubble shield for the front of these helmets you could put a little visor peak on the front which is going to help block the sun so if your looking to maybe add some accessories like that to your helmet you might look for a helmet with some snaps on it and again very basic interior with the Vega. Up next we have the Fly .357 this particular one is a really a great looking graphic for the ladies it fades from a really mellow kind of ghost flame job to really bright pink in the back so definitely eye catching and obviously its available in a bunch of different styles for the guys too. But if you notice on this one it has a drop down internal sun visor and that's a great feature for you guys that are riding in mixed lighting conditions too when its really bright out drop that down and its just a little leaver on the side pull it down and now your ready to go . One thing that i will say about these internal visors is they are fantastic for bright light and conditions like that how ever they don't do a whole lot of blocking a whole lot of wind to your eyes , if you tend to tear up a lot your probably still going to want to wear riding eye wear glasses or goggles . If your eyes don't bother you all that much this will protect you from impact bugs and rocks and things like that. One other thing that the Fly . 357 has is a removable interior liner , now why would this be important to somebody? Typically when you have a helmet that has an internal removable liner that means you can pull out the lining and that's just going to allow you to pull this out clean up the helmet and keep it fresh for a longer period of time so if you plan on doing lots of riding you tend to sweat a lot or your riding somewhere where it is really warm out then that's definitely a great option another thing to check out on all these helmets is how all the chin straps are, you know some of these are very basic types of chin strap like the fly here it has a little bit nicer finish to it a little bit softer material that's going to actually come in contact with your face and then some nice metal rings here on the side for the actual chin strap to attach and then here at then end you always want the loose end of the chin strap that it kind of dangling down out of the way and it can tend to start flapping on you and its going to start hitting you in the face if you don't have some way to secure it and some of these helmets will have an actual snap like this which is going to do a great job keeping that loose end tucked up out of the way so its not whacking you in the face when your riding down the road. Alright behind that one here your going to get into has these intake scoops at the top you can open and close these vents this particular helmet is a Z1R and you can also see it has a removable visor piece, so if you like the look of that or if you want just a little bit of sun protection obviously the size of the visor peak can kind of depend of how much actual protection and get this one is pretty minimal just for the look of it and the back of this helmet comes down just a little bit further and another thing you'll notice on the Z1R here is you'll actually have a removable wind curtain. So all the way around the bottom of the helmet here is a zip off curtain and this is great for cold weather if you live somewhere where you do do some riding in the colder times of the year in the cooler months you can throw this on and its going to cover up your ears seal up against the base of your head a little better to keep you more comfortable for those types of rides. So the Z1R is definitely a great choice if your looking for that kind of riding situation. Okay here is the Zox Alto helmet this helmet actually comes in two versions you have the Alto and the Alto DDV which stands for Drop Down Visor you can get it with or without the internal sun visor and this particular helmet the price difference is only around 10 dollars to get the internal visor obviously this one comes with a clear and there's other tints available and you also have to kinda pay attention when your shopping some of these will have lots of different options in terms of for instance this one comes with vents at the top that's just going to allow a little bit more air into this helmet just a real smooth finish and this Alto has snaps across the front and this one does not its just simply the visor peaks just held on with those screws on the sides so if you just want to leave the visor peak on that's great but if you wanted to swap out for a shield or something obviously this one has an internal visor built in , this one your going to be able to pull this one off and attach a universal snap on shield if that's what you wanted to do. Now one thing i will say about the Zox Alto helmet if you pick it up its a nice light helmet and that's thanks to the shell construction this is actually a fiber glass shelled helmet and when they use a fiber glass shell over a poly carbonate plastic shell they tend to build it so its still very strong but they use less material so its not as heavy as the poly carbonate version so if weight is an issue for you look for a helmet with that fiber glass shell because they are typically a lighter weight just picking these up you can tell these are on the lighter side . Next up we have a very popular helmet its the Gmax GM55, Gmax is known for giving a lot of bang for its buck tons of features you can see it does have an internal sun visor it also has an internal removable liner and it includes the wind curtain for around your neck in the box as well . So lots of features with this helmet and lots of cool graphics available you can remove the wind curtain if you wanted to take that off and another thing about having a wind curtain like this is , and you'll want to double check what your looking at, but a lot of times you have speaker pockets you can see here there's a little opening you can throw speakers in there if your looking to use a communication system or just listen to some music while your riding you can install speakers another thing you might notice on this one other then having a snap this is the way a lot of the other ones use a or keep the loose end of the strap tucked away little elastic loop that you can stick the loose end of the strap up through so that its not again flapping in the wind and bothering you the only thing with this loop is its not quite as secure as the strap so you've got to make sure that its looped up there well other wise it can just slide back out. Okay last but not least we have the Bell Pit Boss and the Bell Drifter on the table . Well talk about the Drifter first this is kind of unique the shell first of all has a very unique shape you can see it kind of swoops out in the front and the back and its got a little bit more coverage then a typical shorty helmet. what you'll find with bell is extreme attention to detail both the Pit Boss and the Drifter are over a hundred dollars they are quite a bit more expensive then most of these other helmets we've been looking at but you get a lot of really nice features first of all we have a really nice pin striping job on this one and then you'll see rather then little rivets you have little cartridge ends on there and just little features like that and another thing you get with the Bell Drifter is a really nice custom fit . So you've got the chin strap you get these little removable pads that are going to cover your ears which helps keep the ride a little quieter they do have little speaker pockets built in if you want to you can pull those off and if you just want to have an open feel . But whats really unique is this attachment system at the back here and its adjustable so that when you put the helmet on you simply ratchet down this dial on the back and it really feels like the helmets hugging your head and it gives you a really good feeling like its not going anywhere. If you ever have an issue when its trying to lift off your head or buffeting quite a bit depending on what kind of windscreen set up you have on your bike that really helps keep the helmet down secure on the back of your head you see they also give you a nice goggle strap too if you wanted to rock some goggles on this helmet that's going to keep your goggle strap locked into place and not let it slide up out of the way. so definitely a cool helmet in the Bell Drifter. The Pit Boss is an awesome helmet as well its got more of a traditional shorty style you'll see that it gets you a bit of a visor peak and a nice internal drop down sun visor which is again going to give you the benefit of riding with out eye strain in bright conditions and a bit of impact protections from road debris. You get some nice finishing touches these metallic screws on the sides another great graphic and obviously check our website for different graphics that are available and again you get that custom adjustment system on the inside so the inside again is really going to keep the helmet really locked down securely on your head and again a removable neck roll that's going to help keep you nice and comfortable in colder weather and keep the noise out of the helmet a little bit better. You can see the interior of the Bell is nice with the finish it has on it as well and again Bell just does a great job and these are all composite shell helmets as well so again they are a little bit higher end. Last but not least i wanted to show you the Bell Rogue this bad boys about 250 bucks so its quite a bit more expensive then anything else we've looked at but its also very unique we actually have a full detailed review of this helmet if it catches your eye and you want to check out more about it we've got a full review of that but it incorporates this muzzle system which is removable if you slide it up you can take it off and just run it, its kind of like a shorty helmet style but its more like a 3/4 helmet with how much of this material raps down the side of your head but really its just the look of it its a really cool looking helmet held in a couple different colors and this muzzle is designed just to obviously give a really cool look but it also attaches really smoothly with these magnetic systems on the sides clips right into place and its going to provide a little bit more comfort in cold weather road debris and things like that aren't going to be hitting your face as much with the Bell Rogue and again this is about 250 bucks you can check it out on our website. Again this is barely scratching the surface when it comes to shorty helmets you've got so many different brands styles different graphics available on our website and the great thing about him is they are so affordable most of these are all under a hundred bucks and you can just pick the one that you like most and grab it and a lot of guys have multiple helmets just to suite their mood. So you can check them out at Competition Accessories .com
Hey guys this is Reuben with competition accessories. Welcome to our review of the all new bell pit boss helmet. I wanted to wear this helmet during the video to show you that this new shorty style from bell is actually designed to sit down on your head. Its not sitting on top of your head like a lot of other shorty helmets do. This one actually sits nice and low down on your head. It feels like your actually wearing the helmet and it gives you really nice good coverage even though its a shorty helmet. Another great feature about this helmet is it has an internal sun shade. Now it comes with clear, you can also get a smoke one if you wanted to do that. It is a really convenient way to have some eye protection and drop down that visor so you don't have to wear glasses or goggles while you ride with this thing. Now i have one of these in front of me and one thing that is really neat about this helmet is its actually a tri-matrix shell. This is a combination of kevlar, fiberglass, and carbon-fiber. You have a very advanced shell construction. It keeps the helmets weight down, really nice and low. Another thing i wanted to show you is the interior. The inside of the helmet is very nicely lined with a plush material. Another thing you need to see on this helmet is the speed dial system. This system allows you to tighten up these bands, if you have seen a bicycle helmet you will be familiar with this design. What its going to do is cradle the back of your head and you can tighten it up for a custom fit. That is really prevent this helmet from pulling off your head or lifting when your riding, because a lot of times with an open face or shorty helmet, depending on your bike if your sitting really far back or upright, a lot of times you get a lot of lift with this helmets. This going to help hold that helmet down on your head so its nice and comfortable. You will also notice there is a nice neck curtain that goes all the way around the back of the helmet and covers your ears. You can install speakers, there are some pockets right here, so you can install a communication system. The speakers can go right into the pockets here. Its also nice and warm, these are going to give you nice protection over your ears for cold weather riding. Another thing you can do is actually remove that by two snaps and un zip the neck curtain. This is for more of the summer type of riding. You can pull that off and then you will have an open unrestricted air flow throughout this helmet. You can check these helmets out on our website at competition, again that is the bell pit boss. A very nice new design for a shorty type of helmet. Also in the upper right hand corner of our video there is a link to our youtube channel. Make sure you subscribe to us there so you can stay up to date with all our product review videos. Thanks for watching our video review of the bell pit boss and we will see you next time.

The Speed Dial system allows this helmet to have a custom comfortable fit for a variety of head shapes and sizes. As a result the XS and Small share the same size. Because all you need to do is put the helmet one and dial it in for a snug comfortable fit. What we really like about the Pit boss is the drop down visor. It gives you plenty of sun protection and also shields your eyes from rocks, gravel and bugs. If you are in the market for a shorty style helmet, you should try the Bell Pit Boss.

From the first time you put the Pit Boss helmet on, you can feel the difference. The ultra-light TriMatrix construction keeps weight to a minimum while still passing tough DOT standards. Great Helmet - Super Cheap - KLK   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Super cheap price, super fast and free shipping, SNELL rated, well known model helmet.
Cons: A little loud at illegal speeds, but I have nothing to compare it to.

The cost of this helmet was almost half of what everybody else is selling theirs for with the pretty colors and designs on them. Of course, I spent an afternoon trying on different helmets at different shops until I settled on this model and a specific size. Compacc was the only place I found a solid metallic silver Vortex in my size. I couldn't be happier with it.

Great Buy - John   IN Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Safety Rating, Style, Shield, Price
    Cons: Wind noise

Great helmet for the money, love the style and color. Shield is excellent, decent venting, ok weight. Wind noise seems a little loud, but an otherwise excellent helmet.

Great value - Arthur   MO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Quality built, great optional transition shield
    Cons: shell is large

I currently have an Arai, Shoei and Shark helmet. The Shoei is being retired so I got this Bell Airtrix Speedway as it's replacement. My Arai is an RX-Q, the Shoei is the RF-1000. Not sure what the Shark is, other than it's a POS compared to Arai and Shoei, lol. Anyway, the build quality is comparable to Arai and Shoei in most regards. The vents are not as robust, the gasket around the eyeport does not seal as nice or tight. The great thing about both Arai and Shoei, is that each model of helmet comes in 5 different shell sizes. Bell still uses 3 shells, so you get a shell larger than you really need bulk. All this being said, the Bell is still a great value. I love the ear pocket depressions as I have a Sena SMH-10. The lining is really nice. The transitions shield option is fantastic People try to compare these helmets by price - just remember you can find great deals on the Arai or Shoei just as well if you search in the right place, so price arguments don't hold a lot of weight. I got an absolute killer deal from Competition Accessories on my Bell, too good to pass by. All in all, the RS-1 is a very good helmet. So far, I am happy with my purchase and look forward to 5 or so years of service from it. If you have never worn an older Shoei or an Arai, you won't notice the shell size, as most manufactures use 3 shells as well - that's how they cut costs.

Scott, Florida - Bell RS-1. A Great Helmet   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Lightweight, Superfast easy face-shield change, ventilation, fit, stabile
Cons: A little tight around the ears

This is a fantastic helmet. The fit and finish is on par with many more expensive helmets. Graphics are amazing and the hi-viz yellow really pops. Ventilation is very good without being noisy. I wear a small in my Arai xd and Shoei x11 and the fit on this helmet was snug to tight. Ordered the 30mm cheek pads and boom perfect fit. Always remove the cheek pads to check size as your fitting your head NOT your face. A very smart man from Arai taught me that.I really wanted the black and high viz yellow but nobody knew anything about it. Days after getting the Airtix Speedway helmet I saw it high-viz and black advertised for the same price. I love this helmet so much I ordered the second helmet, and is awsome. Dark tint shield and gold iridium and switch out in seconds. FANTASTIC

Pros: Perfect fit, quiet, vents work great
    Cons: None

Great helmet that is DOT and Snell rated. Shield mechanism allows easy adjustment as I like to ride with my shield up to shade my eyes. Overall fit and finish are excellent and the pads are comfortable for long rides. I plan to get another one to leave at our vacation condo for my second bike.

Excellent Helmet - Ashish   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Quite, Light weight, Stable, Style & design
    Cons: None so far

This is an excellent helmet for 3 season riding with open vents. I guess it wont be a problem in the winter too. Its very very quite, my 2013 Daytona red lining isn't noisy to me anymore. Good build quality and aerodynamics tested at high speed. You do hear the wind if you tilt your head sideways though. Has room for Bluetooth attachments. Visor setting are pretty neat too. The colors and design get you noticed on the road. Thumbs up to pricing, there's none better. I am very satisfied with the purchase. Do measure your crown before buying though, this helmet is snug by design. I didn't order a size up though and the helmet is now broken in nicely.

Third RS-1 helmet - WaynoJ   WA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Light-weight, great fit, quiet, huge ventilation
    Cons: None

This is my third Bell RS-1 helmet. First was the RSD Flash version, which got demolished in a rear-ender about a year ago. Second was a Gearhead in red, my all-time favorite graphics for a helmet still using it. When CA put the Gearhead in white on a close-out sale for under 200, I jumped on it for a spare, although it does go better with my new white Triumph Street Triple, so it gets a little use. This is just a great helmet -- very light weight especially compared to the Bell Vortex the RSD Flash replaced, best fitting of any helmet I've ever tried on my traditional long-oval head, very quiet, and lets in huge air with all of the vents open. The pads are quickly and easily replaced when they get sloppy, and easily removed for cleaning. Just over-all a fantastic helmet, especially for the price. Thanks, CA

two thumbs up - Paul   NC Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: lightweight, easy face-shield removal, good visability
    Cons: ventilation ports, chin strap

Overall - a great helmet. This is my third one. Love the light weight and visibility. The face shield change-out is lightning quick and secure. The face pads are snug and comfortable. That being said, the ventilation ports need improvement. They are not easy to adjust with gloves on and only give moderate airflow on hot days. Additionally, the chin strap can also be cumbersome to fit with gloves on.Still, a great helmet that is worth the money when compared to more expensive rivals such as Shoei and Arai.

Bell RS1 Helmet - Jamie   OR Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Very comfortable. Well vented. Visor works well
Cons: A little breezy for cool mornings even with the vents closed

This is a nice helmet. I got a large which fit a little tighter than the Shoei's but Felt very good once I got used to it. I like the tighter feel. It vents well when it's warm. The price at Competition Accessories was fantastic too.

Great Helmet - Robert   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Quality, light, quiet, graphics
    Cons: None

I recently replaced a Shoei RF-1000 that I had for five years with a new RF-1100. No complaints about the was my second one and I thought I would always wear a Shoei. The RF-1100 turned out to be a disappointment. Fit and quality were what I came to expect from Shoeis excellent but the new one is LOUD Always have worn earplugs, but the difference between the 1100 and older 1000 is significant. Also, the 1100 is not as aerodynamically smooth as the 1000 behind my sport touring fairing the buffeting is pronounced and contributes to the noise. Air inlets function great, but another contributor to noise they whistle at speed. I read several reviews that pointed to the RS-1 as a high-quality, good fitting, and quiet helmet so when I saw that CA had my size in several appealing graphics, I ordered one. Easily the equal to the Shoei in fit, function, and quality, but significantly lighter half a pound on my digital scale and oh so very much quieter No buffering behind the fairing either. I have also worn both helmets on the track track bike is naked, no fairing or windscreen and the Bell is smoother in free-stream air as well. Ventilation is good and I can feel the brow vents work. I like to have at least two helmets at any time, and will be selling off the Shoei to buy a second RS-1 which I will buy from CA.I bought two separate RS-1s from CA because I was not sure of the fit and returned one taking advantage of CA's excellent return and exchange policies. Sent back the redundant one and had my credit card refunded well within their stated time. Excellent service

good buy - breeze   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: inexpensive, comfortable, good airflow, well made.
    Cons: [None]

I bought this for a track day. I neded a full face helmet for Cal. Superbike school, and didnt plan on using it much. But with its Snell rating and good reviews, thought id try it. Worked great, visor was clear and stayed shut at 140 speeds, with ear pluugs it didnt sound any louder than any other lid. Comfortable, my head is a 22 14, right between a SM..the Medium was a perfect fit. The airflow was good, lots of vents that worked in hot southern weather. it comes with a hetmet bag, nose and chin valance. Lot of helmet for the money. It even looks pretty good. You cant tell its a low end lid unless you look real close..I have had a bunch of 3-400 lids, and other than finish, is just as nice and has all the same features of higher ones.. hope this helps

Best Helmet Value - Robert Arance   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Everything
    Cons: None

As good as my RF-1100, possibly better. Excellent fit, quality, finish. Slightly lighter than the Shoei, and a lot quieter as well. Have used it both with and without a fairing on my bike and is is stable, no buffeting. Brow vents work very well...ran a track day on Memorial Day with temps around 100, could feel the ventilation working to cool off my head. Purchased the Airtrix, but exchanged it for a Gearhead and at the prices CompAcc sells them for, they are the helmet bargain of the year Excellent helmet for the money. Great Helmet at an Unbeatable Price - Olivier   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Comfortable, quiet, well made
    Cons: [None]

Found this helmet at an incredible discount 189, so it joined the Bell Star I already had. Compared to the Bell Star, this RS1 definitely feels heavier, but it is also much quieter. Its weight is well balanced though, and even on a one-day, 600-mile trip on my ZX10R, neck fatigue was never an issue with this helmet. Compared to the Star, which was designed for a more track-oriented purpose, the field of vision is slightly more restricted when you are crouching on the tank and looking up, but again this helmet was not designed primarily for track use. The RS1 is an excellent sport-touring lid very quiet, comfy well-balanced and well-made. Hopefully, the feeling of quality of this helmet will translate into trouble-free use. On the Star, the magnet on the strap fell off after only a few months, which was disappointing. With a little luck, all the parts will stay together on this RS1 Anyway, to sum up an unbeatable deal on a quality so far... helmet. Thank you Comp-Acc

Pros: Price, Comfortable, air flow, SNELL2010I race cars
Cons: A little noisy, three big Bell logos

When I measured my head I was kind of between a medium and large size. I went with the large and glad I did. It fit pretty snug when I first got it. After a short time the cheek pads relaxed a bit and the helmet fits comfortably snug. I did start to notice more wind noise after though. The chin strap slack uses a magnet instead of a snap. My other riding friend is jealous of that.

I purchase a silver model on sale. The fit was perfect but you should use the chart from the Bell site for this helmet vs. the one on this site. The sizing is different. The quality is much better than expected and the only negative is the clip on the provided helmet bag broke the first time used which is not a big deal. The best value on a quality Snell 2010 helmet.

This helmet was bought as a replacement for a stolen snif Bell Star Hess. It's much quieter than the Star, and flows nearly as much air. It's nice and soft on all of the liner, and fits my long oval without any hotspots. the magnetic retainer is so handy I'm annoyed when I have to use a snap...Side note- the Transitions visor is hella cool

If you catch one on closeout you are WINNING The graphix are awesome on this lid and the price was RIGHT 195 marked down from 450 I highly recommend Bells RS-1 if you are looking for a new lid that is not going to break the bank but also provides a safe good looking lid.

Great helmet at a discount - 61duc   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Has great appearance and a comfortable fit
Cons: Odd sizing, with a 58-59 large instead of 59-60 large for other helmets

Fits great and really has a great looking appearance. Has very good vents for air and the visor will lock down, which many helmets don't. The same lever to lock the visor can be used to barely crack open the visor for fresh air and keep it in that position. Was being sold at a great discount at slightly less than 250 instead of the standard price of about 450. Overall a great helmet.

Bell Rs1 vs Vortex - rmphill   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: quiet,snug fit,liner,air flow , better visor mechanism .
Cons: graphics are a bit cartoony.

So... This helmet hands down a great helmet I already had a Bell so getting this wasn't a problem. I still have a Bell Vortex but just upgraded to the Bell Rs1 gearhead. It's way more quiet then the Vortex Ita got a bug fit compared to the Vortex, it flows air way better than the Vortex, the 3 position visor settings Is a huge plus. The moment I went for my first ride in this helmet I noticed an immediate difference in comfort style ergonomics to wind noise . That's a huge thing for me , wind noise my Vortex had the worst wind noise ever whistle through the whole helmet form 20 mph to 130 mph didn't matter how fast or slow I went it would have a substantial amount of noise to the point of irritation with ear plugs in . If you have doubts just read this none BS review... and if your looking at the shoei line up just think price . The RS is quieter than the qwest my brothers got the shoei qwest the qwest is louder it fogs more and the padding and shield are all different and heavier. The RS1 is lighter softer quiter and just flows air way better and it's around Ooo 250 cheaper with graphics the qwest is around 400 for solids no graphics. But if you are considering this don't hesitate whether you want a new helmet or your upgrading the Vortex you won't be disappointed and I might add I paid 189 for my vortex had I just got the rs1 for the fantastic price of 199 to begin with I wouldn't have experience with any other helmet so get it you won't be sorry .

Pros: Great features and fit. Well worth the price.
    Cons: Noisy

I picked this up to give me a full face option for my Goldwing. For me, Bell has always been synonomous with the quality helmets. For the price this helmet is being offered at on closeout, I couldn't go wrong. Ventilation is superb, fit and finish are amazing and comfort is there in buckets once the cheek pads get broken in. I did have to ding it one star for the noise. Just wear earplugs, as you should be anyway, the the noise will become a non-issue.

Good value, Great Visor - Jim   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Light, quiet, aerodynamic, Transitions Visor
Cons: Sizing is slightly on small side

This is a great helmet for the price at CA. It fits slightly small. I ordered the large, as I wear in an Arai, but it was too tight. I exchanged for an XL, which is just slightly loose. My head measures 59.5 cm., which falls between large and XL. With a little extra padding the XL is now comfortable. The helmet is quieter than my Arai due to a snugger fit around the sides and back of the neck. It is very stable at higher speeds. The best feature of Bell helmets is the optional Transitions visor. These are expensive, at 120, but fabulous The shield reacts quickly to changing light conditions and is never too light or too dark. Just right It is completely clear at night. No more changing visors or being caught out with the wrong one.

Pros: Snell approved, shield system, ventilation, fit, styling
    Cons: Big, LOUD

For the price, the Bell Vortex is a steal. All the features included in this mid-range helmet make it a great choice for anyone who doesn't want to spend the money to move up to an aria or a shoei. My only big complaint is the noise level. There are two tiny exhaust ports low on the back of the helmet that create an enormous amount of wind noise inside the helmet. Throw in some earplugs and you have a great helmet at an amazing price.

Good Fit - Jack Creevy   NH Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Good fit and very stable.
Cons: The right side hinge plate that holds the face shield in place broke the first time I removed the shield

All in all I am pleased with this helmet. Could not believe the price for such a quality piece of equipment. Because it was silver for some reason it was 100.00 less than the other Vortex helmets. I do have one complaint however in that the brow vent allows so much air in that after about an hour my forehead starts to hurt really bad. Tried closing all of the vents but, air still gets in. I was able to reduce this quite a bit by removing the top liner and plugging the holes with foam insulation and then reinstalling the liner. Never did I ever think I would complain about a helmet that flows to much air. Now I love this helmet.

Pros: Beautiful Red metal flake paint, nice quilted padding, excellent price, quick shipping
Cons: Inner liner not removable and sizes are smaller then other brands.

Great looking helmet, beautiful red flake paint job, but sizing is smaller than other open face helmets I have purchased Inner padding is nice but not as comfortable as my Torc or Fulmer helmets. If you have a round head vs elongated head go up a size to avoid pressure point pain on long rides Bell 500 Helmets are great helmets, they just need to soften the inner liner, make it removable and change the outer shell to be more comfy for different shape heads

Nice Helmet, but didn't fit well - Kit   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Light, Paint was great
Cons: Fit a bit tight for my head

My comment is only about fitment. I wear a size L for the Scorpion Exo 750 and 700. The inner tag reads 59-60cm on my Scorpion. This particular bell helmet read 58cm-59cm. I tried the helmet on and immediately felt the helmet crushing my brain. I have an oval shaped head. I immediately returned it and purchased an Exo-750 from this site. The Exo-750's fitment was perfect right out the bat. Great customer service, I got my refund almost immediately and my Exo-750 came quick.

Great deal on a very good helmet - Scrappy McStuffins The Wonder Cat   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Value, Visor RemovalReplacement, Fit
    Cons: Noise

I bought this as a replacement for my old Vortex that was getting pretty worn out. This one was on clearance, so I picked it up when I saw the deal they had. I think it is easily worth the full price, but at the clearance price, it was a no-brainer.Before the prior Vortex, I wore an Arai Profile, which is significantly more expensive, but not so much better than the Vortex to justify the price difference.I find the Vortex is very comfortable, Keep in mind that the padding will break in quite a bit, so make sure you get a tight fit. It will feel too tight for the first month, but that is what you want.As far as is noisier than the Arai Profile I wore, but with earplugs which you should be wearing anyway, the noise is not bothersome at all to me. I read some of the recommendations on blocking the vents behind the ear and tried that with my new Vortex. Not sure if it made that big of a difference. Also, I use a Sena SMH-10 and it fits just fine on this helmet using the clamp.

Overall very nice - Travis   TX Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Stable Aero
Cons: Tries to slit my throat

The weight of this helmet is nearly identical to my old one KBC VR2, but the weight distribution is better. I feel like most of the weight is at my ears or lower. I think this makes it a little easier to move around for head checks and makes it SEEM lighter. The aero stability is really great though. Slices through the wind very nicely, even with your head turned. The first down side is that the large is quite snug compared to other large size helmets. It's still acceptable for me, but I could see where someone else might need to send it back for an XL.The other down side is that the buckle for the chin strap is in the middle of your neck. My last helmet had it offset of one side. The result is that, unless the strap is placed in just the right place, and the padding located just so, the buckle digs into my adam's apple. It can be a little painful and distracting at times. It hasn't injured me, yet. But I'm considering shortening the strap that holds the buckle to move it over. I honestly don't know how it made it out of Bell R&D without someone complaining about this. I'm no helmet expert and have maybe owned only about 4 helmets in my life, but none of them had the buckle in the middle.Overall I still like the helmet though.

Aerodynamic - Robotman   PA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Visor, ventilation, no buffeting, paint scheme
Cons: Loud, lets air in in the chin area

Overall I am pleased with this helmet. I was still using my 2000 vintage Shoei RF-R when my son read something online that said you should replace your helmet every 5 years. The straps and liner were getting pretty ratty so I decided to get a new lid. This helmet is light and aerodynamic compared to the old Shoei. The way the visor locks and unlatches with the lever on the side is easy to use. I have been riding in the 50 degree spring air here in PA and it does let in a little more air around your chin than I would like but a scarf fixes that. In the summer that will actually be a plus. The vent system works great Both the top and front visor vent systems flow a lot of air when left open. The Airtex Speedway paint scheme seems correct for my Triumph Sprint ST and a black jacket. I like it a lot altogether. The helmet is a good value and has a good feature set. I bought a large and wear a 7-18 hat size. It's a good tight fit. I keep my hair pretty short. If there is one thing that is disappointing, it is how loud the helmet is. It is as loud as the old Shoei and I was expecting quieter. I think the gaps at the ears for a comm system are the culprit here. I might get a Bluetooth setup for talking to my son when we ride and maybe that will make it quieter... The Sprint has a more upright riding position than the pure crotch rocket bikes and maybe that makes a difference. The windshield on my bike dumps the air exactly in the center of the visor. That is based on where the bugs are hitting That could be a factor in the noise too. Really, I am just nit picking, it is a great helmet. I am 59 so I have seen the evolution of the full face and this is a good one.

Unfortunately, cold and snow have gotten in the way of getting out and riding with this new helmet. However, the package showed up within two days and on the first day of the Polar Vortex. I will say that this is the second Bell I have had in a row and this is super comfortable. I spent about 20 minutes putting it on and trying to get the fit right and chasing the dogs around the house with it on, because why not right. Snug in all the appropriate place and good sight radius. I cant wait for some warmer weather to give this a real test.
