Information and Details about the Avon Storm 2 Ultra Radial Tires - Rear
made by Avon
The Avon Storm 2 Ultra Radial Tires have been constructed with Tri-compound Extrusion Technology. This consists of a medium compound center tread with soft compound shoulders and a base that improves the bond between the tire compounds and tire carcass. These sport/touring tires are great for grip, mileage, and wet weather performance.

Features:
  • Sport/Sport Touring Radial
  • Grip, mileage and wet weather performance
  • Tri-compound Extrusion Technology - medium compound center tread with soft compound shoulders and a base that improves the bond between the tire compounds and tire carcass
  • Advance Variable Belt Density rear tire construction uses a densely wrapped belt in the center of the tire for stability, wear and mileage; belt is less dense on the shoulders for a large compliant, contact patch
  • Lifetime Profile Engineering for consistent handling and stability for the life of the tire
  • Super Rich Silica compound for fast warm-up and superior grip
  • Enhanced Aqua Flow tread pattern for optimal water dispersal
  • Inverted Front Grooves resist uneven wear and improves braking stability
  • V-rated for speeds up to 130 mph (160/70R-17)
  • W-rated for speeds 168 mph

Avon Storm 2 Ultra 15070 17 - JFisk   NC Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Smooth ride and grippy. Nice neutral profile.
Cons: DOT date of NOV 2011 when purchased in JUN 2014

30 plus years riding experience on all brands of tires. This tire feels good and confidence inspiring. I don't know about wear yet. I've put 500 miles on it with no signs of wear. It feels real planted when pushed. I bought this for the rear of my new to me06 Tiger based on reviews. It has not been tested in the rain yet, thankfully Not real happy about the tire being almost 2 years old when I received it but it seems fine. I'll most likely put one on the front when the Scorpion, that came with the bike, wears out. This tire has a smooth ride. I've read reviews that said it is a noiseyharsh tire, this is not my experience with the 15070 17. Shipping was fast and the price was good.

awesome - k1200lt   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: long life, cost, durability
    Cons: none so far

I have them aired up right 40 psi and they haven't moved a bit as far as psi. It's kept in the garage all the time. No cupping, great wear. So far after 6 months I'm right at 5k miles, winter in northern Colorado I'll bet I can get 10k off the rear tire and maybe 20k on the front. I'm 400lbs, bike is 850 lbs and when I have my sweetie, she is 120 lbs..so we are at 1370 lbs maybe 1400 lbs total 2 up and 1280lbs 1 up.This is the only one besides the metz 880 the bmw 1200 LT can handle due to side wall weight. I like it Avons ship out of Denver and I get them next day even though they are made in England Get the storm 2 ultra, you will be glad you did. Make sure you keep them over inflated-the manuf even recommends it, ride safe.-

    Pros: [None]
    Cons: [None]

This is my third set of storms, I'm getting 2000 more miles out of the storms than I was other brands. The handling isgreat cause of the softer compound on the outside edge.My K1200S loves them

Great in the wet - spadge2020   AR Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: zero slop in the rain sticky all the way to the edge in the dry
    Cons: none

Slipped a pair of these on my FZ6 just in time for the wettest Spring in a long time. I have been caught out in some pretty serious rain and these tires don't seem to care one whit. I will be interested to see how many miles they last.

I love this tire, I have it in 150/70-18 on my 1998 fzr 600 with a bt45 110/80-17 combo for the front. it handles awesome and really has amazed me for a sport touring tire. I was really hoping to get some good life out of them. Unfortunately after about 500 miles I have to get a new one because I have a tread splice and if i hadn't noticed it, it probably would have separated on the highway at some point.

Avon has an awesome warranty and are replacing the tire for free.

Great, but Awful - hmmmm90s   MD Recommended by Reviewer: No
    Pros: Fantastic Handling, Traction, Treadwear
Cons: Quality Control .. Could Kill You

Boy are the Storms a Mixed Bag. This is a fantastic tire, with astounding traction, cornering, treadwear, and they stick like glue in wet conditions so bad you'd wonder why you were riding.I love these tires. Then again, I hate these tires. I have a BMW K1200 LT. The bike was designed to use radial tires, and these Storms are the only ones left that anyone makes in the right size and weight rating. This bike is HEAVY, powerful, and with a stiff structure that lets you lean way over with confidence. I've had maybe 8 Storms -- front and rear -- total. Two of them have failed. A front had a belt break internally and the resulting weak spot in the tire went down to the cords in the time it took me to tiptoe 200 miles to the nearest dealer. Last week on the way home from work I felt a new vibration -- bike was hopping, windshield flapping. I slowed way down, hoping to make it home. 15 miles later I had to call for a tow truck -- the lap joint in the carcass had failed and let a 1 12 blow out open up across the center of the tread. Fair and balanced -- Any tire would be stressed by the weight and power of my bike. I've seen Bridgestones and Metzelers normally a bulletproof tire brand come apart when used on an LT. Avons fail more often than they should. Avon knows, and they haven't gotten better. If you buy them, check your tires at the beginning and end of every ride. If you don't, you could get hurt.

Pros: Cool looking tread pattern. No problem with obtaining warranty replacement
Cons: I read of other riders complaining of vibration balance issues but I never had this problem.

Very good performance from my first two sets on a FJR1300. Third set rear let me down on a Thanksgiving day 2012 trip after running fairly fast and loaded on I-75 in Florida. After stopping for breakfast and starting back on our way the bike was hopping at slow speed from a ply seperated rear tire that had less than a 1K miles. Avon was quick and responsive to send a new replacment to my vendor. Just kinda sucked limping into Gainesville FL thanksgiving day with no bike shops open so we could continue the trip. Thanks for looking AJ

Freaking Awesome Tire - KAPOW #2   CO Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Price, handling, next day arrival, smooth like buttah
Cons: Com acc won't bundle the BMW LT's tires

Had the tires shipped to a Colorado Springs shop, they arrived the next day Avon is a UK company with a distribution center in Denver Wow I expected a week, not a dayThat being said, needed no weights on the front and very little on the rear. These things are great to drive on, easier to me than metzler tires. The Avon tires are a bit more pointed for more aggressive turns, perhaps that is why they do so well in the rain. Anyhooo, I ride with 42 lbs on both front and back and I'll report back on tire wearlongevity in a few months of winter driving. Only having 3 tires to chose from suxs... metzler, brigestone and Avon for my 2002 BMW 1200LT suxs but having Avon as a choice- I am the most thrilled about. They are in my back yard

    KAPOW
I commute 190 miles daily on a 2008 BMW K1200GT with luggage. Road surfaces vary from trwo lane chip and seal through rural rolling hils and curves to multi lane asphalt and concrete urban/interstate highways. First bought these tires to ride from Ohio to Anchorage Alaska in August of 2010. Rode 5 days in rain through Canada with no problem. Have high confidence in handling in both wet and dry conditions, under heavy load, and at sustained high speeds. Metzler Z6 lasts 4500-4700 miles, Bridgestone BattleAX BT023 4200 miles, Michelin Pilot Road 2 "B" compound has given about 6500 miles so far and expect to last another couple of weeks. Two sets of Avon Storm 2 Ultra have given 9500 and 9950 miles. Don't handle quite as good as the PR2's when worn, but better than all the others, and just as good when new. I'm ordering my third set today. Looking forward to comparing with the Pilot Road 3 when the "B" compound rear becomes available.

I have always bought Avon tyres for my Speed Triple.
Would have bought the W rated tyre if it was available. I don't need a Z rated tyre like the one I had with 16K miles on it. I don't go that fast any more.

Avon Storm Ultra 2 - AJ   Recommended by Reviewer: No
    Pros: Very cool tread pattern
    Cons: Expensive

I have had two 18055-17 Avon Storm Ultra 2's on my 2004 FJR 1300 that gave me great service and performance. The third Avon tire that had 1,100 miles had a ply separation on Thanksgiving day while traveling and stranded me in central FL. The bad Avon tire is on its way back to Avon USA for warranty consideration and has to go through the selling dealer, distributor, and then Avon USA in Ohio I think On Black Friday I was able to find a bike dealer to mount and install a new Michelin Pilot road II. I think my Avon loyalty is over. I like the new Michelin
