Video Reviews
Hey this is Reuben with Competition Accessories and we just wanted to make a quick video on how you change the face shield out on the Arai helmet. A lot of people get intimidated by Arai helmet face shields because of the side pod they have where you cant see whats going behind it. What we have done on this helmet here is we installed a clear pod so we could give you a better look at the inner workings of the base plate mechanism and show you how it works. Basically to remove the face shield what I want you to see is this little gray lever here, there are one of those on each side of the helmet. When you raise your shield to the top position those will pop out. Now if your helmet is a little older or a little worn out they might not pop all the way out like a brand new helmet. With the face shield all the way up you just need to lift those levers all the way up. Once you have lifted those until they click, to take the shield off is very simple, you are just going to grab it from the top , rotate it back and pull it off. It comes right off really quickly. You will see guys out at the track if you watch racing at all like the isle of man for instance, they will pull into the pits and they swap face shields on or off in just a matter of seconds. It is one of those things you have to get the hang of. To reinstall the shield is a little trickier, there is a horse shoe shape cut out on the end of the shield here, that's going to line up with the top curve on the helmet or the pod and with the clear ones you can see the round tab that its going to slide over. Your going to slide that in on both sides and its not going to really click or anything, you just have to get it down and on to there like that. Once its in I find it easier to have the helmet facing away from you and then you are just going to close the shield. When you close the shield what happens is this opening this cut out right here slides over that little notch right there, so that is what limits the shield as It opens. That's how to change the Arai face shield out, hopefully that helps you out. You can go to our youtube channel if you click on this link in the upper right hand corner and subscribe to us. Hey guys this is Reuben with Competition Accessories and welcome to our video review of the all new Arai Vector 2 helmet. This is Arai's entry level helmet and when I say entry level its still going to be a premium helmet. Its going to have the same complex laminate construction, so the shell is still going to be that hand laid fiberglass which is extremely and incredibly stiff. One thing that you see on all Arai helmets is this hyper ridge that is molded into the shell itself. This allows them to make the opening of the helmet a little larger so you can get the helmet on and off easier and still have a helmet that fits snug. Another thing that it does is it adds additional stiffness along the base of the helmet. This is a weak spot on the helmets because its open. If you have an impact here that hyper ridge is really going to reinforce the helmet. It also serves as a shock wave buffer so if you hit up here that energy wave is going to be reflective back up and not continue down towards your body. Looking at the aerodynamics of the Vector, there are some differences between the Vector 1 the older version to the Vector 2. First thing they changed was the chin vent. It doesnt really look a whole lot different from the outside but the Vector 2 has more channeling for that air to get inside the helmet to your face and the face shield. They have redesigned the air wing on the back so if you look at the original Vector and the Vector 2, the Vector 2 actually has scoops at the back of the wing that are going to pull more air over the back of the helmet and these vents draw all the warm air out of the helmet which is the most effective ways to cool off the inside of the helmet. There are also some small static vents at the back towards the base of the helmet. Another thing that they have changed on the Vector 2 is the new face shield is going to be wider. It is a wider eye port so you have better vision. Out of the helmet itself it still has those brow vents that are built in, so talk about the ventilation you have a chin bar vent which has two positions, then you have brow vents. Instead of having vents up on the brow of the helmet itself they put them in the face shield and the reason they did that was because they don't want to compromise the integrity of the shell. You can see that the brow vents are directed through these air channels. Those direct the air down around to your fore head so you get some nice air flow there. This top vent is closeable with a simple slider switch and it operates easy with gloves. The same thing goes for the back you can open and close these rear vents and its actually two positions with that slider switch. Moving on to the inside of the helmet. Arai has actually changed a lot about the inside of this helmet as well. The original Vector just had removable cheek pads. The Vector 2 has a fully removable interior. You will see the neck roll is nice and flush, that helps keep the wind noise down. We will go ahead and remove the cheek pads here. Another thing Arai does with their helmets is they give you an option to take some foam off of the cheek pads, so rather than having to buy a thinner cheek pad you can actually tear away this top layer of foam, its called their micro fitting cheek pads. Pull that off and that's going to give you an extra 5 mm of room up in the cheek pad area. Another thing they may notice is they use multiple densities of foam. You have different types of foam and they are contoured to fit your face. They are also springed as you can see when I push it forward, that helps when you are taking the helmet off. Arai does not use snaps on their cheek pads they are basically little tabs one on each side of the cheek pad. To remove the crown liner it is just basically four snaps, two in the front and two in the back. You can take the whole liner out, you can wash it and replace it. Another part of Arai's micro fit system is the tear away temple pads. This allow you to get a little extra room in that area, so if you feel like there is too much pressure on the sides of your head you can actually tear these off of the interior of the liner. On the inside of the helmet you have Arai's single piece EPS liner, which is basically multiple densities of foam but they mold it into one liner piece so you don't have different pieces of foam inside the helmet. Check out this helmet it is definitely a great option if you don't want to spend the money on higher end race helmets from Arai. Everything you want. Nothing you don't.
Introducing the Vector 2, the latest version of Arai's hugely-popular less-is-more Vector model. Specifically crafted for the rider who doesn't need all the bells and whistles of other Arai models. But who can't imagine not getting the Arai family's unmatched three generations of handmade magic with care and craftsmanship, rider protection, performance, comfort and fit.

The kind that's earned Arai 12 straight J.D. Power and Associates Number One rankings for Customer Satisfaction - while no other brand has earned even one!

(The fact that the Vector 2 costs a little less doesn't hurt either!)

What becomes immediately obvious is that, while still adhering to its less-is-more design intent, the new Vector 2's impressive array of features, benefits, updates and upgrades results in an Arai helmet in which more costs less.

Shell Construction
  • The Vector 2's CLC (Complex Laminate Construction) shell utilizes Arai's proprietary aerospace fiberglass technology to achieve a strong, flexible shell in a lightweight package

    NEW! Chinvent Design
  • The placement of the new chinvent design within the Vector 2's chinbar gives it a distinctive look all its own - while flowing a lot of air into the interior
  • A rubber breathguard also comes as standard equipment

    NEW! Hyper-Ridge
  • This design encircles the bottom of the shell, enhancing shell strength (in an area where some manufacturers actually reduce shell material)
  • The Hyper-Ridge also provides a larger opening in the bottom of the helmet, making it easier to get the helmet on and off - without either adding weight or increasing the shell size

    NEW! ACR-2 Vents (Rear Ventilation)
  • Turned rear vent/ wing: New ACR-2 rear exhaust vent/ wing combo features wind-tunnel tuned air inlets that accelerate the airflow over the large exhaust-vent holes, greatly improving ventilation performance by markedly increasing the efficiency of interior stale-air and heat removal
  • A single large slider easily operates all three vents simultaneously

    Organic Shell Shape
  • The Vector 2 is another example of Arai's organic shell design philosophy - an Arai helmet shape is created to conform more closely to the human head shape, making it look better and "flow" better in the wind
  • Arai believes this shaping is best done by human hands and experience - not computers
  • "Computers solve things mathematically. Hands build for humans."

    NEW! Fully-Removable Liner
  • An upgrade from the previous Vector's fixed liner, the Vector 2 gives you a fully removable liner
  • Further, it is designed with a full-perimeter crown pad with minimal frame support for increased comfort
  • The removable/ replaceable cheekpads also have removable washable covers for easier, thorough cleaning

    NEW! ACF-2 (Front Ventilation)
  • New ACF-2 front intake vent has an oversized intake opening for better airflow, and a sliding-door mechanism to more completely close it

    Side Exhaust
  • The Vector 2 features larger side exhaust ports at the bottom rear to increase airflow while at the same time working to reduce noise levels

    Wider Eyeport
  • The new Vector 2's faceshield eyeport features the same extremely-wide peripheral view of Arai's top-of-the-line Corsair V racing helmet, and RX-Q - 5mm on each side - providing better side-to-side visibility and awareness of the world around you

    EPS Liner
  • Arai's multi-density EPS liner is like no other, comprised of up to 5 different densities in some models - and molded into a single piece
  • Arai pioneered this technology more than 20 years ago and is still - to our knowledge - the only helmet offering a single-piece hybrid liner and its unique benefit: the direct-fused contact area that each EPS call shares with its neighboring cells creates a mutual support - as one cell is crushed under impact, the surrounding cells assist with the energy absorption. (Liner pieces that are simply fitted or glued together cannot rely on such a high-level support bond.)

    Micro Fitting
  • The incredible feature of the 5mm peel away cheekpad layer, first introduced on the RX-Q and now available on the Corsair V, is standard on the Vector 2
  • This feature gives you the option of a thinner cheek pad set, for a custom micro-fit, without having to purchase an optional cheek pad set
  • Expanding on the benefits of the 5mm peel-away cheekpad design, the Vector 2 is the first model to incorporate 5mm peel away temple pads
  • Adding to the benefits of multiple interior shapes, this feature now takes micro fitting within an interior shape to a higher level, giving you advantages offered only by Arai

    Additional Features
  • Interior Shape: Intermediate Oval - This shape is designed for the rider whose head has a front-to-back dimension that is longer than the side-to-side dimension
  • Standards: Meets or exceeds both Snell and DOT

Great Helmet for All Seasons - Desperado   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Comfort, Adjustability, Visibility, Airflow
    Cons: Lack of Chin Curtain

I have had this helmet for almost two years now and it continues to be my favorite, particularly at night or in foul weather. The neon green-yellow color is not outlandish but you can definitely see when other motorists take notice of you.Multiple air vents allow for generous front-to-back cooling in summer weather and they all button up for cool weather rides. My only criticism is the lack of a chin curtain lets in more cool air in winter and is a source of noise year round. But a neck gaiter or balaclava quickly solves the winter riding issue. The chin strap is comfortable but secure and the loose end snaps easily out of the way. The visor has a variety of venting options to prevent fogging and snaps down securely to keep cold air out.I suggest adding the Halo reflective neoprene band to make this a 247 safe rider's helmet.

Love the Hi-Visibility Yellow Arai Vector - Matt Thomas   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Great color, easy to see, light weight, vents great
Cons: price, but hey it is the best

Fits smaller than I thought... I had to return medium and get Large, but was super fast and delivered the new helmet right away. I just ordered the other size online and sent back the medium. Certainly No HasslesAbout the Vector 2.. The Hi-Viz Yellow is great. I can really tell cars see me now.. Much better than even my white helmet was.The vector 2 really has quality components like thick chin strap that doesn't bunch up in the D-ring, many air ports with several air flow settings. My only gripe would be the visor lock nub on the visor itself is difficult to disengage with winter gloves, and there's a lot of air coming up around my chin. This might aid in what others have described as great airflow in hot weather. It's more of a negative in the winter weather. But with a neck gaiter from Schampa it is not an issue.

They already had the best helmets, now they have this sunvisor. I installed it about 3 weeks ago and use it daily. I just ordered a 2nd one along with an new Arai for my wife from compacc. I got a nice discount too, because of the CA cash I had earned on my shield and sliders kevlar jeans order..Great company.. Great product.. Exactly what I expected and was looking for in a helmet. Over a two year time frame I think I tried on every motorcycle helmet on the market. The Arai Vector 2 fit my head the best. It took me a while to save up the money but its mine now and is very quiet and comfortable and I will recommend this helmet to everyone.

The Arai Vector 2 is a Great Helmet - Ryan Davis   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: air-flow, light weight, aerodynamics
Cons: price is high, but worth it

Florida is freaking hot. I needed a helmet with great airflow, stability, & fit. It has great airflow to the face without excessive noise. My hair remains dry after 100 degrees rides - amazing. My prior helmet was a HJC AC-12 that had zero airflow. The Arai vector 2 is also far more stable at highway speeds, especially when I turn my head. This helmet may be expensive, but nothing is more valuable than the safety of your head. You no longer have an excuse that it is too hot to wear a full-face helmet. Get the Arai Vector 2.. It is the best helmet i have ever owned

no more fogged up shield - reno ryder   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: works like its supposed to
    Cons: none

I Ride my motorcycle to work all year round, I wear a full face Arai helmet. When the temperatures start getting down below the 30's I start dealing with fogging up issues, this year we had several mornings that were in the low teens. I ordered the Pinlock anti-fog clear shield and a light smoke fog free insert from Competition Accessoriesgreat service by the way, The morning after it arrived was 11 degrees. Unbelievable I can ride to work with my shield closed and all vents closed, I don't have to breath down towards my chest, IT DOES NOT FOG UP IT WORKS.. The area I live the mornings are always cool so I have just left this shield on all year, It is a great shield.

At last, a reason to prefer the Corsair V - Duke W   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Easy change-out, works flawlessly with the pinlock inserts designed for it
Cons: Not standard on every Arai helmet it fits

Anti-fog inserts are a must on Arai helmets, so when I needed a new Corsair V, I bought one of these at the same time. The difference is night and day from the old-style pinlock shields. There is no limitation to the clear field of vision from the rider's point of view. The last reason to prefer an older helmet is now gone well, except for the paint schemes -- I really miss the Tommy Gun paint job -- they don't have anything that evocative any more. Yes, I know that the Corsair V is supposed to be a racing helmet, and they therefore think you don't need an anti-fog visor, but this is safety equipment, guys, and should be standard on every helmet it fits. Oh, one more note if you have a spare old-style pinlock insert, be aware they won't fit the new design. Buy an insert at the same time, and you won't have to wait to be safe go ahead, ask me how I found that out.

Call it a necessity - Duke W   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Product actually works as advertised, really wide, tall field of clear vision
Cons: Shouldn't these be on every Arai helmet

Anyone who's ever worn a helmet in the rain knows that you either anti-fog, or you don't see. While there are lots of ways to anti-fog, the best way is to not have to in the first place. If your face shield is anti-fog, you don't have to worry about whether you treated it or not, or whether you put the anti-fog in your pocket before you left. That's why this product rocks so hard. It flatly works. Unless you're a mouth-breathing troglodyte, you won't fog this. The combination of pinlock pocket and silicon seal works to provide a clear, fog-free view that will last a couple of rainy seasons of daily use ask me how I know. Another plus this new design puts the edges of the anti-fog area outside the seals for the eyeports, so your view is unrestricted. Nice The only drawback this doesn't come standard on every Arai helmet. It really should. They're one of the safest helmets on the market, so why doesn't this vital piece of safety equipment come standard on every helmet they sell Don't know, but if yours didn't come with one of these, you need to get one -- before you need it and don't have it. Don't delay, buy today

Fog Free and Happy in my Arai - Side Road   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Easy to install, Love it.. Now I am Fog Free..
    Cons: [None]

No fogging issues with this visor. Now, if it would only keep my glasses from foggingRiding last winter with the RX-Q, I had a lot of fogging issues. While it was easily mitigated with the front vent, who really wants to open it at 30 some odd degreesI have read that other people had issues with the pins. I just straightened out he visor, as shown in the video, and popped it in place. Very simple and took but a couple of seconds to install it.It does take a little bit to get used to as it gives the impression of being cracked open on the bottom when all you are seeing is a small area that is not covered by the insert.

Works good, certainly fog free - RON   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Fog Free, Good Fit
Cons: slight reflection in some conditions

Works well. I have the dark smoke and light smoke on separate shields, easy interchange. Dark for sunny, light for daytime cloudyovercast. Only negative is minimal ... slight reflectivity off the inner surface, so on bright days the lens is not crystal-clear ... but it's close, and it doesn't fog.

PRO Shade Reviw - SlowRider   TX Recommended by Reviewer: No
Pros: Easy to install and use. Visually consistent with helmet aesthetics.
Cons: Shade not as dark as it could should be.

Had high hopes for this solution to glare and direct sun in the eyes. The PRO Shade didn't really help either problem. The shade portion is handy and provides some relief from the direct sun like a cheap pair of sunglasses would do. Unfortunately it could do more in this regard. Also, should the shade be in the up position and the wind catch it, stand your helmet and head will snap back with a fair amount of force.Have been accustomed to a high-quality and well thought out products from Arai. This one may not have been as thought out as it could be. Seems like improvements will help it. Perhaps the next version will be perfect

Not a bad solution, Probably the best Arai will offer. - Jim J   GA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Provides a quick sunshade option, no need to carry multiple visors.
Cons: Now you have 4 surfaces to clean or potentially scratch.

I love Arai and have for years. But I have been caught after dark with my tinted visor and also needed a sunshade on my clear visor. Arai needed a solution, this is what they came up with. I used it on a 600 mile trip last week and it worked perfectly on my Signet Q. In and out of tunnels, did a great job. In the raised position gave a nice shade and lowered was just like a dark visor. No problem with distortion, noise, wind drag. The main issue I see is that now you have an inner and outer dark section that accumulates bugs and dirt and of course the clear section to clean. Any one of those surfaces could get dinged and the total package is not cheap. You can't just add the sunshade to a normal visor.Arai claims this is a better solution because they do not have to change the design of helmet for an internal drop down visor and, in their opinion, affect safety. I'm not an expert so I won't dispute the claim but bottom line, this is the Arai solution. It was worth the price to me.You really want to know what works The Transitions visor that Bell and Akuma use. THAT is the perfect solution and could be adapted by every helmet manufacturer. I don't know why Arai and Shoei and others resist that elegant and effective solution.

Arai Shield - John   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Looks very good
    Cons: Does not fit

The shield looks great however the fit is horrible. It will not close or seal tight so I get a lot of wind noise. Had to put the original one back on.
