This review is for Alpinestars Scout Waterproof Boots
Comfortable Boot - Bill   WA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Good fit, Rugged Sole, Waterproof,
    Cons: None

Boots have a good fit. Size seems to be right at what I would wear for a shoe size 10 . I have a slightly narrow foot but it's no problem as I can adjust the buckles and wear thick socks and they fit fine. The sole is aggressive enough to be confident in putting your foot down on wet pavement or on gravel and not slide and comfortable enough to walk in for awhile. But like any new boot, they need a little breaking in.

perfect fit, easy to put on and take off - hatrick penry   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: great looking, comfortable, built to last
    Cons: none that I've found

Feet down the nicest pair of boots I've ever owned...I like them better than my custom snakeskin boots....I wear a size 15 and my foot is 12 inches from heel to toe, and my foot is fairly wide too so I ordered the size 14....a perfect fit. The zipper and velcro flap are heavy duty and make the boots quick and easy to put on or take off.

Great Boots - Jonathan R   IN Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Basic black, comfortable, walkable
    Cons: None

The comfort of my feet are not an issue with these boots. Basic black goes well in the office until I can change into other shoes.

Excellent Summer Boots - Pete4638   NC Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Very comfortable, easy to put on and take off, plenty of air flow.
    Cons: None

I live in Western North Carolina and summers can be pretty warm. My other riding boots, though waterproof, were also a bit too hot. These boots are much cooler that I expected they would be. The venting lets in a lot of air. The boots are comfortable both on and off the bike. They are well-constructed boots while remaining fairly light at the same time. Worn with CoolMaxtm socks, my feet stay dry and cool even in the 90's. On cooler rides in the mountains you can definitely feel the air passing into the boots. If I pull the cuffs of my riding pants down lower on the boots and tighten the velcro to keep them in place I can ride when its in the low 60's without any real discomfort. These boots are my summer favorites. I never realized how much difference wearing a vented boot could make in the summer. Pete

Great boots - kpax   NC Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: waterproof, comfortable to walk in
    Cons: none

Mine now have 15,000 mi. minimum through all weather conditions. Feet stay dry in heavy rain and through puddles. In hot weather they breathe. Exactly what is expected from Gore Tex. My size allows enough room to wear heavy socks and liners comfortably. Can't believe these are a close out item. They're too good to discontinue.

Great Short boots - Doug S   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: fit was good, comfortable, great all around short boot
    Cons: [None]

First of all I was very impressed with the sales staff at I was looking for a good everyday motorcycle riding boot that was as good on the bike as it was walking around and they suggested these or the alpinestars SMX 1 boots. I was impressed with them right away. I usually wear a size 12 shoe and have a wide foot so when I tried on a 12 to my surprise it was actually to big and ended up with a 11 12 which is a euro 46. I wore them for a couple hours around the house expecting them to pinch the top of the foot or get uncomfortable and the never did. The construction of them so far seems to be really well done and I choose the Alpinestars SMX2 motorcycle boot because of the latch system versus the velcro strap on the alpinestars SMX1 boot. Overall, I could not be happier with this product and would recommend it for an everyday rider boot or for spirited runs.

SMX-2 Boots are great short motorcycle boots - Mark   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: very comfortable, good movement
    Cons: lack of ventilation

I needed some new motorcycle boots for running errands or just cruising town without having to wear tennis shoes. These are perfect for that use. I really love the ankle movement up and down when walking. The ankle movement is actually what sold me on these shoes over all the others. Very very comfortable. The only downside to these boots is the airflow, but I guess that's why they make the mx-1. Still, a scoop on the side of this boot like the would be a nice feature.

Nice boots for the money - Marty K   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Comfortable, good feel, good grip, correct sizing
    Cons: not waterproof

I was a bit surprised they let in water pretty easy, I will use some leather protection and waterproofing.Very comfortable, foot bed is nice and good feedback from foot pegs, brake is easy to feel.Good grip on the ground as well, slippery rocks and roots have predictable grip.Lightweight, correct sizing and easy to use buckles.Shifter is a bit vague but perhaps its just being used to my other boots.

Great Boots - Michael L   FL Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Perfect fit, warm, attractive
Cons: Can be slippery on wet tile floor

Boot fit perfectly out of the box. Leather is soft and supple to the touch, yet very durable. I was able to wear them all day the first time I put them on. The Gore-Tex fabric surrounds my feet and ankles to keep them warm and dry. As with any boot, some break-in is required for good flexibility when riding now it's second nature to jump on the Bonneville and head for the hills, knowing my feet will be dry and warm no matter what the weather. Pros: Great comfort and great protection
Cons: Run a little small, ordered up a 12 size.

This is my second pair of these boots. The first pair were scuffed up pretty bad in an accident - but my feet and ankles were well protected spared injury. Very comfortable and Velcro straps make them easy to put on and take off.

Great boots - milwaukeebrewhouse   WI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Good in rain
    Cons: Few

Rubber bottoms great when you need to put your foot to the ground even in rain. One of the first times I wore the boots I rolled the bike out and stepped out into six inches of rain running down the road. Dry. I have a sport touring bike and believe rain just means you wear a different jacket. These boots fit that well--I had been wearing Goretex Salomon hiking boots, but these deliver the same dry performance in a motorcycle boot with better traction. Comfort for a run into the grocery store is fine. Only negative so far is sometimes I have to retie them as the tounge is designed for being waterproof and has an extra flap that folds in and I'm glad it's there keeping them dry when you step in a puddle.

When you're expecting the worst... - Brett   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Construction, protection, coverage, traction
    Cons: Hard to break in

Make sure you have some long socks for best comfort. Have worn these dual-sporting in cold, muddy conditions and on road in wet wintry conditions. See my Pros and Cons. Worth the money. Wear them off the bike for a few days at least, before riding, rugged construction makes them stiff when new.

I've used SMX Plus for years and they've had awesome durability and protection. I'm sure the Supertechs will be even better. FYI I wear one size smaller in the supertechs 44 than SMXplus 45. Had to return my first pair.

Love the Alpinestar SMX 1 boots - Rene   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: good sizing, good airflow, ankle protection
    Cons: [None]

Sizing was perfect bounced my EU size off an old pair of sneakers and went a size down because they were a little bigGreat comfort and easily broke in within a few rides. I was very hesitant about ordering online....not anymore, not from Compacc.Airflow through the elastic accordion area is much appreciated in the warm Hawaiian afternoons. The Major factors for me deciding to purchase were over ankle protection, comfortable, easy on and off and looks. Definitely a decent boot for the price and I'm glad I made the jump from a standard work boot to a dedicated motorcycle boot.

Alpinestars SMX 1 Boots are Great - Robert C   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Great airflow, look great, work with jeans well
    Cons: [None]

Been riding in these boots for a few weeks and i love everything. When stopped at lights or in traffic the traction on the sole grips good and way better than my other shoes. The A-Star smx 1 boots are a great option for the street rider and they also look great while riding or paired with jeans The very 1st thing I noticed was how much airflow comes through the front. You will be happy you got these...

Comfortable - KAWASAKININJARIDER   CA Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Comfortable, Above ankle height, sturdy, very protective, durable, tough
    Cons: NONE

I bought these in April 2012. I have rode with them only 2 times so far. They have very good comfort for riding, easy to access rear brake, downshifting, upshifting. They have good tread on the soles, so if you come to a stop signlight you won't slide when coming to a stop. All around a great Motorcycle riding boot. They have no boot laces. I prefer that they do not. There is 1 zipper and 2 velcro parts as the pictures show..

I was hesitant to order these because of the price. I have had other cheaper boots like bilt and sedici that just fell apart. The sMX-5 are great and have really held up well after 10K miles.

Nice short boots - Roswell Robert   NM Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Comfortable, easy on and off
    Cons: [None]

These are very well made and easy to get on and off -- which is exactly what I wanted. Also very comfortable to walk around in. Since they are available only in even sizes I had to order a 10 instead of a 9.5 but they fit OK. They are not quite as ventilated as I hoped but still OK. I got the black ones and they look real good but the slider on the toe stands out more than I would like.

Nice Boots - PDX GS Rider   OR Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Quality construction appear they will last forever
Cons: Not really a 4 season boot don't come in 12 sizes

I was close to giving these 5 stars because of the quality value equation. The boots are comfortable from the moment you put them on, but like others have mention, you will wear them for some time before the look broken in. Three reasons I knocked these down from a 5 star rating. 1. they don't come in 12 sizes. I wear an 11.5 and stepped up to the 12. An 11.5 would have been a better fit. 2. The toe box is a little too generous, I think a smaller toe box would make getting the boot under the shifter easier and provide a bit more feel. 3. Summer hasn't arrived here in the Northwest, but I get the feeling these boots are not going to breathe enough. I'm suspecting when the heat rises my feat will be looking for air. Would I buy again, yes absolutely. These will last for years, look good, and will give all the protection you need for normal adventure riding.

Nice boot for the street - Rune Rider   CT Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Good features and price for the street
    Cons: None

I bought these for riding a cruiser on the street. I wear a size 10.5 US in a medium width. I ordered a size 44 and the fit is maybe just a little big in the width. the length seems fine.My criteria were.....1. Low cut for warm weather2. Easy on easy off.3. Reasonable protection.4. Bike friendly features like sliders and a shifter pad.5. Reasonable price.6. Comfortable fit.7. Unobtrusive looks. After trying a few shoes and low cut boots these Alpinestar S-MX2 boots seemed to satisfy my criteria best. They are low cut with a dip in the rear so your ankle can flex. With a single zipper covered by a velcro flap and a single buckle, they are easy to put on and take off and there are no laces to tangle in bike parts. They provide ankle coverage and toe heel TPU sliders for protection. They have a shifter pad and flat soles that won't hang up on foot pegs. They aren't cheap but they aren't race boot expensive either. At least in the black version they aren't all that conspicuous as a bike boot unlike some full boots intended for the track. I can wear these into the office and then switch to my dress shoes without getting laughed at.The one area where I might have a complaint is fit and comfort. If you're buying bike footwear looking for a Nike New Balance level of fit and comfort, forget about it. None of the ones I tried measure up to those standards. In fact they were all sort of crude. You'd think at least one manufacturer would partner with an athletic shoe company to develop a really superior product. Unfortunately, they all seem like they came straight out of Taiwan including these Alpinestars.Overall though, I think these are a good compromise for street riding. I'm keeping them.

That's not red - milwaukeebrewhouse   WI Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Nice boots
    Cons: Color wrong

I tried the boots on and they are nice the rubber sole looks like it would stick well, but I haven't tested them out on the bike yet. The pictures show four colors and list three as available. The red looks nice on the picture and got that as my favorite color and match my gloves and helmet. When I got them they are orange not red. I thought the orange boots shown in some pictures were a discontinued model since the red looks red in other pictures. Send them back or wear them The black ones would match my motorcycle jacket and pants if they are really black... My fashion model teenage daughter thinks they are great, but for 200 I want the right color. Maybe I need to buy a Harley so the orange looks appropriate.

Quality personified - Bikecop   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Well made, quality and convenience off and on.
Cons: About half a size short.

Although I bought these boots in a brick and mortar store wore them around and decided they werejust right - after a good long day in the saddle and staggering around a campground in the eveningit became apparent I should have bought 10.5 rather than my regular size 10. During the 3 day rallyI was cussing them. Now, having said that . . . 3 years later I STILL wear them during hot weather. Isimply pack a pair of NB walking shoes to change into at the campground. When riding they don't hurt enough to warrant discarding them BUT if I ever catch them on sale for 100 or so I most likelywill replace them with size 10.5. Otherwise - top notch leather easy off and on and a really nice softbut supportive foot bed. Highly recommended just make sure the 'just right' feel when you first slide them on isn't going to be a 'squeeze' after a day's riding.

Good value for money - Paul   MD Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Perfect fit, great sole, nice style
    Cons: None yet

These boots arew what I was looking for. Easier to get on that my full length boots but very confortable on the bike and still offer great ankle protection. I like the style and the fastening system and notice when I put my foot down at the lights, the grip of the sole feels solid. I've only used them a few times but I am more than happy with my purchase so far.

This review is for Alpinestars Ridge Boots
Very nice comfortable boots soft leather there was no break in period. I have been in the pouring rain several times very water proof my feet stayed dry. They are breathable but when it gets in the 90's your feet get warm. I could walk around all day in these very comfortable.

This review is for Alpinestars Scout Waterproof Boots
I purchased these this spring and have a number of rides in. One was a 1800 mile ride to Arkansas to ride the ARK 500 plus a few days of back roads. The last good pair of boots were a Hi-Point boot made by this company. For me I need a boot that is reliably dry and affords good protection. In addition I need boots that can accommodate a wide foot. My size 12 accomplishes this nicely. They have already been through it all. For me the break-in was/is difficult. I have probably ridden 2,000 miles and they are still stiff. My only issue is that the buckles are hard to fasten.

These boots are still too new to give an accurate rating, and they are still worth their price, but there are three things you need to consider if you've owned previous Ridge boots:
    1. These boots are MUCH stiffer than the ‘08 model. They are as uncomfortable new as cheap cowboy boots. They are nothing like the soft leather of the 08s.
    2. These boots feel like they have maybe half the ankle and shaft padding of the 08s may be the stiff leather. They rub your legs like a taller cruiser boot.
    3. I've been wearing them for almost a month now, and they are still harsh and hard. My 08s felt like wearing tennis shoes after 10 minutes in the store with them on.

I like the toe guards 08s didn't have them and the adjuster strap actually works on the new ones, and I like the soles better, but overall I feel they’re not up to the elder’s quality. If they prove me wrong, I'll write a new review. :

These boots will melt under your pipe. - Erion   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: comfortable they look really good
Cons: The plastic melts under the hot pipe.

I am very upset with this product. I bought them and less then a month the plastic on top of the boot, started to break a part. I have a racing pipe, underneath my boot and I stop to put the foot down the heat from the pipe, on a hot day the air that is to say melted the plastic on top of the boot. Don't buy these boots if your bike get's hot.

    Pros: Inexpensive
    Cons: Like wearing cement shoes

The boots look nice and are priced right, but the good points stop there. Wearing them is like trying to ride in ski boots There is no flexibility and no feel for the break and shifter. I wore them constantly for 2 months to try and break them in, but they still remain too stiff. I ride a GS and the lack of feel is so bad I had to go back to wearing and old pair of hunting boots Dont buy these boots
