Nice lid - Xylemnut MO
Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Styling, loads of features, value for the money
Cons: Sizing is small, visor levers are hard to find
Bought this helmet for cold weather riding. I normally ride with a Scorpion EXO-100, size medium, that fits really well and seems like a pretty good crash hat. I figured if I stay with Scorpion I might be able to buy good lid without actually trying it on at a dealer. Maybe not the best plan ever conceived, but I'm a bit lazy and it kind of seems wrong to use a brick and mortar store as a showroom with no intention of purchasing there so I went with CA because the price was right and returns aren't a hassle if something went wonky. The helmet arrived at my house only 2 days after ordering. As advertized, the Kranium is crammed with lots of features. I monkeyed with all of them to see that they work they do. The cheek pad inflation doo-dad actually adds a little value to make the lit fit more snugly but pumping up too much causes the cheek pads to mash my cheeks into my teeth in a way that makes chewing on stuff like gum a little uncomfortable unless cheek chewing is considered a good thing. I liked the hat overall but my great plan to get a medium because my other helmet is a medium backfired-the medium EXO-1100 fit too tight making the helmet feel like a vise so I sent it back for a large and it fits really well. I did not get another Kranium though, I got a red Street Demon instead. I liked the Kranium graphic but I was a little disappointed with the fine detail. The colors didn't blend quite right somehow, almost as as though it was out of focus. It just ddn't have the quality I was expecting in the graphic and it was too small but other than that, I like the EXO-1100. The Street Demon has very nice graphics crisp lines, nice details, good blending and matching where parts meet, and it looks sharp with my gear. With the upper vents closed, it's very quiet on the highway and only a little noisier with them open. I ride with top vents shut because I use this lid in cold weather. The brow and chin vents seem to be enough venting to keep my exhaust from fogging the windshield when at speed but I have to crack the visor open in town or the thing gets blurry in a hurry. Not much fogging but the distortion from the not fogged condensation is really annoying. The little visor crack-lever thingy is a nice touch but it's small and hard to find with fat gloves and nearly impossible with mittens. The inner sun visor is pretty cool and it too has kind of a dinky lever for gloves and mittens but it's fine with 'normal' gloves. My only complaint is that the inner visor kind of wiggles at the edge of my upper peripheral vision when raised during the day. That kind of bugs me a little. The holder-upper doesnt seem robust enough to hold it up to preventt vibration wiggling. Finally, the brow vent allows water to enter inside when it rains, even when closed. The trick there is catching the drips on my tongue as they drop.
