Fit is just right - Gary E OR
Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Mostly as described
Cons: A bit more worn looking than I expected and color is off a little.
The fit is just right. I wear a 42 and got the size 42. They said go a size smaller than you typically wear. I have broad shoulders and long arms, but the fit is still fine. The sleeve length could have be an inch longer, but I'm used to that with my long arms. Glad I didn't order a size 40, as it would have been too small overall. I wear a size 16 shirt at the neck. The jacket fit there is fine, not tight. Some edges like the front zipper welt is a bit more worn looking than I expected. Also, the color, although black, is a bit toward the brown side. In some lighting it looks dark brown. I would have liked more black in color. All of these items are minor observations. I'm very staisfied with the jacket, and would buy River Road items again. Leather overpants are next up.

Pros: The jacket is as described
Cons: Color not quite black
Sizing I ordered a size 42. Thought it might be a bit on the large size, but it fits just right wearing a t-shirt and light weight long sleeve shirt. I'm 5'10, 175 lbs. 40 chest, 34 waist, 16 neck, 35 arms, overall a slightly slim build. The size 42 is a correct fit. Glad I didn't order a size 40. The arm length of the jacket is about right, could be 12 longer, but I have long arms. The neck, when the jacket is zipped up and snapped is a good fit, not loose, not tight. I can put the jacket on without unzipping the arm cuff zippers. I have mediumlarge hands and narrow wrists. The color of the jacket is not quite black, not quite brown. A real dark brown or brownish black. I would have preferred true black, but I'll get used to it. The jacket definitely has the vintage look with its worn stitching edges particularly the zipper cover. That feature is much more prominent with the jacket I received than in the videos.

Pros: Quality leather, nice styling, great jacket for the price.
Cons: Sizing a little odd. Quality control could be better.
The goodThe leather on this jacket is really a surprise. It's thick and of good quality, but has a broken in feel to it. The distressing of the edges has a nice vintage look. Stitching seems to be well done and the hardware zippers, buttons, etc. seem to be of good, heavy quality. The liner is full sleeve and while probably not the warmest liner as it is thin, seems well made. The not so goodThe sizing is a bit strange. I am a size 42 to the number. After reading some reviews I decided to go with a 40. The jacket fits snug across the chest and belly and in my opinion fits like a vintage or sporty jacket should fit. The weird thing about the fit is how large the sleeve openings are at the wrist or cuff. There is no need to open the snaps or zippers to put your hand through the sleeve because the opening is so large one could easily slide a clinched fist through the opening. This will allow a lot of air to go up the sleeve and will make it difficult for riders who like to wear gauntlet style gloves to find a glove that will go over the sleeve. I am of average build, so maybe those with really huge forearms and hands will not notice. The other negative with my jacket was that when zipped, the cream colored band of leather across the chest does not line up perfectly. One side is actually about 18 of an inch higher than the other. I believe the problem is that the zipper was sewn in slightly off. This should have been noticed before it left the factory. This was not a major problem for me so I opted not to return the jacket.OverallFor the money I think it would be hard to find a similar jacket. River Road seems to have the vintage styling down. It looks great, seems to be made well, and should last a lifetime. If you want a loose fitting jacket that you can wear a bunch of layers under, I suggest getting the size of your true chest measurement. If you want a jacket the fits more like a vintage or race style jacket go with a size lower. But be forewarned that the sleeves will be rather large no matter what size. As a side note I don't think this jacket will work with all riding positions. On standard, vintage, adventure, or touring type bikes with and average reach to the bars the jacket should work well. The jacket doesn't have an action back design so on sportbikes or cafe style bikes that require a long reach to the bars, the jacket may be pulling too much in the shoulders and bunch up around the collar.
