Information and Details about the Michelin Pilot Road 3 Tires - Rear Tire - Z-Rated - Dual Compound
made by Michelin
The new Michelin Pilot Road 3 tires are the latest in Michelin's sport touring tire lineup. Utilizing dual compound technology, the Pilot Road 3 tires have a softer compound on the edges for enhanced cornering grip, with a more firm center for long tread wear. The aggressive siping pattern on the Michelin Pilot Road 3 tires makes them an excellent wet weather tire. For the rider who needs always there traction without sacrificing tire life, the new Pilot Road 3 from Michelin is an excellent choice.

Building on the tremendous reputation Michelin has built over the years, the Michelin Pilot Road 3 Tire is the successor to the award winning Pilot Road 2. With the Michelin Pilot Road 3 Motorcycle Tire you are really getting 2 tires in 1, by integrating a soft rubber compound on the tread shoulders with a wear-resistant compound down the middle, Michelin gives you the best of both worlds.

Revolutionary X-Sipes technology maximizes wet traction
  • Michelin’s newest technology delivers all-weather performance without compromising tread life or handling
  • Patented innovation resulting from years of research and development
  • Sipes increase the tread's drainage capacity.Sipes generate pressures at the edge of the sipe blade, which help break through water film.

Two compound technology combines tread life and cornering grip
  • 2CT incorporated into all tire sizes, front and rear
  • Wider soft-compound shoulders on the front tire, compared to its predecessor

    High performance and environmentally sound
  • 100% non-aromatic-oil rubber compound
  • All tires listed are "Z" rated tires
  • Note: The size denoted by "B" is designed for loaded touring or two-up riding

Michelin Pilot Road 3 - BadWing   Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
    Pros: Feel, Confidence, Dry, Wet
    Cons: None

After putting on a few thousand miles, I have to say these are the best sport touring tires I have ever owned for a motorcycle. They grip very well and when you do push them they give a very predictible slide. I love them on wet roads, dry roads, it doesn't matter. Do yourself a favor and spend the money.

    Pros: Traction, durability, and dependability
    Cons: none noted to date

This is my second review...and my third set of Pilot Road 3's. So far I have put just under 30,000 miles on three sets of Pilot Road 3's and have not had any problems to speak of. I just returned from a 3400 mile road trip with my brother. I road my Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS and he road a BMW R1200, both bikes had new Pilot Road 3's installed a week before we left. We road from central Kansas to Lake Tahoe, through the Redwood forests and up and down the Pacific coast, into Yosemite and Mamoth...and then back again. We put in time on mountain roads that were second to none in being a challenge to ride and traveled deserted hiways that gave us the opportunity to press our bikes top end performance. On one day of the trip alone we traveled from 113 degree heat in the Nevada desert up into the high Sierras into sub freezing temps where we hit snow and rain. The Pilot Road 3's never gave us any cause for concern, only some variation of air pressure as we went from below sea level up to above 8,000 feet. Honestly, on the trip back through the northern desert of Nevada and Utah, I was amazed at both the performance of the tires and their dependability to handle very long periods of time at 80 plus MPH in the broiling heat of the desert. I wish I could say my body held up as well. My brother and I disgussed tires and both of us determined why consider another brand when the Pilot Road 3's were handling everything we could dish out.

I ride 100 miles round trip on a Kaw Concours ABS 14. I cruise at 70 to 80mph or much more when conditions permit. I ride on rough rural country roads including a dirt/gravel road in everything from gusty winds to outright down pours year round. The PR-3's have never slipped, behaved badly or gone flat even when I've pushed them further than I was comfortable. As for wear, compared to the OEM Bridgestones which only lasted 7500 miles before I had steel belts exposed on the rear and little to no tread on the front...my first rear PR-3 lasted over 10,000 miles and still had tread before I changed it due to winter coming on. The Front PR-3 currently has over 12,000 miles with all tread still reasonable fine. These are incredible tires...Michelin has not let me down, ever.

ended up with a flat while on vacation, had to replace my rear tire MPR 2 with a new tire. This was all the dealer had in stock, so bought it. I am very pleased with it so far, broke it in on the Blue Ridge Parkway. At about 50 miles it was sticking good, no problems. Hope this one wears as well as my MRP 2 was wearing.

These are the best tires I have ever. They are great at high speeds and seem to hold when tight cornering. So far they have worn best ever. So far with almost 1500 miles no wear apparent. Usually I get 2,000 miles total average for 9 sets to date.
    Excellent deal.
