Great Mounting System - Tim CO
Recommended by Reviewer: Yes
Pros: Well designed, fits bike perfectly, sturdy
Cons: You lose your side reflectors, poor instructions
The rack fits perfectly. The instructions are terrible, but that's ok because it is designed well enough that if you keep trying long enough you can guess where everything is supposed to go. It replaces the factory grab bars with a set that has another mount point in the rear, but the factory plastic goes back over the new grab bars and you can't tell the new ones from the originals after you do that. You lose the side reflectors because you have to replace the specialty bolt that the reflectors attach to with a new one from the kit which does not have the same specialty head. Not a problem if you are adding side bags because they would cover those reflectors anyway. This is much better than the OEM available mounting system because this one is compatible with side bags if you buy the matching TE4103 kit I recommend getting it, whereas there is no OEM solution AFAIK that allows both top case and side bags for this bike. The instructions state that you need the M5 or M5M bracket. That bracket is only needed if you plan on mounting monokey or monolock luggage. The FZ451 gives you everything you need to be able to design your own final mount point. I bought the M5M kit, but after seeing it, I'm sure I could have gotten the universal plate that came with my monolock top case instead directly with the FZ451 and saved a few dollars. If you are using a non-Givi or Kappa top case, you can probably get that to work using the FZ451 without the M5 or M5M bracket.
