Most people who are familiar with the Fly Brand know them from their roots in Motocross or BMX racing. Recently, Fly Racing has taken to the streets with a complete lineup of gear ranging from helmets to boots. Lately I have been commuting to work in their 8th Street Mesh Jacket, which is a sport cut mesh jacket with CE armor in the shoulders and elbows, a foam back pad, and 600 denier ballistic nylon over the impact areas. When it is hot outside, it can be tempting to leave the riding gear at home. Unfortunately hundreds of riders every year learn the hard way that that is just not a good idea. The Fly Eighth Street offers good crash protection in a package that vents extremely well, keeping you cool in the summer. A waterproof liner is also included for wet or cool weather as well. One of the things that sets the 8th Street Mesh Jacket apart is that even though it is a sport cut jacket, it has a lot of adjustments that make it comfortable for just about any body type. There are zippered expansion panels at the sides as well as Velcro adjustment belts, so you can expand or snug up the jacket for a custom fit. There are also snap sleeve adjustments, and stretch panels behind both the elbows and the shoulders for added flexibility. The Fly 8th Street will provide you with the protection you need on those hot weather rides.

I live where the temperature changes 40 degrees or so from day to night. Daytime heat has not been a problem with the jacket, though the high high has only been low 80s. The liner is not adequate for blocking out the windcool in the nighttime temps. This poses a challenge as the fit, while nice and sporty, does not afford a lot of room for thicker underlayers. The liner also does not have any pockets and prohibits convenient access to the inside pockets. I am satisfied with the overall materials and finish of the jacket.
