Being a Harley girl, I’ve always worn leather jackets when riding, but recently on a four day girls bike trip I road tested the Cortech LRX Air 2 Ladies Jacket and was extremely impressed. I think what surprised me the most was that an armored jacket could be so comfortable, look feminine and that even in 90° I could stay cool wearing the mesh outer shell.
The first thing I liked about this womens motorcycle jacket is that it has three layers. I tend to be cold when riding, so having a quilted liner and a waterproof/windproof liner to mix & match with the mesh shell, was perfect for me. They are easy to zip in/out and have color coded tabs so you can quickly match up the snaps when re-installing the liners. While riding in the mountains, with the temps ranging from 70° – 90° I was comfortable with just the Armor Link 3 Mesh shell. I didn’t sweat in the hot sun and as some of you know, on very hot days having some type of jacket or long sleeved shirt on is imperative to keeping you from getting dehydrated. The day we left to come home it was only 60° out so I zipped in both liners and they kept me warm the entire ride. Unfortunately we hit a sudden rain shower, but fortunately I had the waterproof liner in so my upper torso kept dry and warm during that 45 minutes of riding. That made a huge difference because my muscles didn’t tense up, which allowed me to continue riding in comfort, well as comfortable as you can be riding in rain!
Beside being super versatile, the Cortech LRX Air 2 Ladies Jacket has CE rated armor which is a first for me. I was worried that it would be bulky and annoying but surprisingly within a few minutes I didn’t even notice it. It’s very streamlined, so I didn’t look like a guy and it’s removable if you prefer to take it out. The armor in the shoulders and elbows was very pliable and the back pad is articulated so I didn’t notice it when riding. There’s also ballistic nylon over the impact areas to provide you with greater abrasion resistance if you do happen to go down. When it was really hot out, I noticed my back was a little warmer due to the back pad but it wasn’t sweaty or uncomfortable at all.
I also love that this womens mesh jacket is very adjustable and shaped for the female body. When I took out the layers I was able to tighten up the jacket in the biceps & forearms to keep the armor in place. Plus the stretch panels on each hip along with the velcro tabs allowed me to get a precise fit while I was in riding position. I never felt restricted by this jacket and that is extremely important when you’re in control of an 700 lb motorcycle.
Overall, the airflow was fantastic, the versatile layers made all the difference and I’m converted, I will be riding in this ladies jacket as long as I can, depending on the temperature changes Mother Nature throws my way. Available in three colorways (Black/Pink, White/Silver, Black/White – note the Pink is much darker in person as you can see in the video) and 11 sizes (which includes plus & tall sizes) this Cortech Jacket is perfect for all types of riding needs. Now, if you prefer a textile jacket the Cortech LRX Series 3 Womens Jacket is made very similar but may suit your needs better, so check it out. I also had the opportunity to road test the Cortech DX 2 Womens Gloves which were a great compliment to the jacket and I loved them.
