A Cold Day in the Mountains

With the right gear and a spirit of adventure, motorcycling is a sport that can be enjoyed year round in most places.  Even when the snow starts to fall and temps creep dangerously close to single digits, I find myself throwing my leg over my bike most days.  The only thing that will really keep me in the cage for my daily commute is ice on the ground.  Other than that, I’d rather be riding!

I spent many years riding through cold weather with, shall we say, marginal gear.  It’s true, layering up underneath your summer jacket can get you through some pretty cold conditions.  But after a while putting on all those layers can become quite tiresome, not to mention cumbersome.  Then one day, I had the opportunity to ride in some cold weather in a jacket that was designed for such conditions.  All I had to wear underneath was a t-shirt, and I was toasty warm.

At Competition Accessories we carry a large selection of Touring Jackets that perform exceptionally well in cold weather.  Some of the features to look for are a nice quilted liner, waterproofing, and neck protection.  3/4 length jackets can also help keep you warm since they provide more coverage.  Below is a list of jackets that we have compiled that will serve you well this winter:

Klim Motorcycle Jackets

For the ultimate in waterproof motorcycle apparel, check out the Klim Jackets below.  Klim does things a little different than what you might be used to.  Rather than using attachable liners, they keep their jackets more streamlined and allow you to layer up underneath.  The reason they are being included on this list is because of how waterproof and durable their shells are.  Both of these jackets use Gore-Tex waterproofing to keep you completely dry, as well as breathing so you are comfortable in any conditions.  Click the pictures for more info on either jacket:

Klim Traverse Jacket – $299.99

Klim Badlands Pro Jacket $899.99

The Klim Traverse Jacket is a Gore-Tex shell designed to be light and comfortable for off-road riding.  We would recommend this jacket as a good option for those looking for protection while riding off-road or dual sport.

The Klim Badlands Pro jacket is a fully featured motorcycle jacket, complete with d3O armor and Viper Level II back armor.   This jacket is loaded with features to keep you dry and comfortable in any conditions, without the extreme bulk of many other jackets.

Sliders Quest 3 Kevlar Gear

Last but not least – the Sliders Quest 3 Closeout needs a quick mention.  These are only water resistant, so keep that in mind, but with prices well under $150, it is very hard to beat this value.  Sliders Quest 3 gear features Kevlar in the impact areas, as well as quilted thermal liners for warmth in cold weather.  The Sliders Quest 3 Jackets are a 3/4 length, with plenty of storage for long distance riders.  Sliders Quest 3 Pants have position-able CE knee armor, foam hip pads, and heavy duty construction.  These are selling quickly at these low prices – so act fast if you want a set!
