Honda said in a statement:
“Honda is recalling certain model year 2001-2010 and model year 2012 GL1800 Goldwing Motorcycles. Under certain conditions, there is a possibility that the combined braking system’s second master cylinder may cause the rear brake to drag.”
Honda said that the unexpected braking can increase the risk of a crash. Driving with the rear brake applied can also generate enough heat to cause the rear brake switch to catch fire.
Honda will be notifying owners and dealers with affected motorcycles over the next month. The company will inspect and replace, if neccessary, free of charge.
The recall will begin in early January.
