An unfortunate accident during last year’s round at Oulton Park took Tommy Hill out of the title chase. But Hill washed the slate clean today by setting the lap record and claiming the pole position. Hill will be joined by Michael Laverty, John Hopkins, and Loriz Baz on the front row.
Hill currently leads the British Superbike series, after claiming a 2-1 finish during the opening round of the 2011 racing season. Hill sets himself up for another good weekend, setting a pace of 1’35.175 today during qualifying.
“I’ve forgotten about that. People ask if going into Lodge Corner comes back to haunt me, but it does not,” Hill said. “I made a mistake and that was that. Now it is time to move on.
“In fact Oulton Park is my favourite circuit but now I have to concentrate on turning this pole into race wins. Things are looking good. I have been consistent across the weekend so far and now I have to get the job done in the races.”
Laverty and Hopkins put in some quick lap times to claim the 2nd and 3rd place spots, as Baz put in a solid effort to claim his first front row start in the BSB.
Josh Brookes will lead the second row with Stuard Easton, Shane Byrne, and James Westmoreland.
