Part One is the Preview. Part Two will be a road test.

Bell’s new Revolver flip-up helmet is said to merge style with function at a very reasonable cost.

Based on Bell’s family of sporting full-face helmets – the Star, Vortex and RS-1, the Bell Revolver employs similar styling and Bell’s Velocity Flow Ventilation with closeable vents.

The Santa Cruz-based company designs these helmets in its wind tunnel so they will work in the real world.

“The system’s use of precisely-placed flow separator combined with its truncated shape make for an inherently stable aerodynamic signature,” Bell says.

Unique to the modular Revolver is an integrated internal sun shade. This is a short dark shield that works independently of the main shield. A left-sided lever lowers and raises it with a click.

Also unique is a mechanism operated by a button under the chinbar to flip the entire structure up.

A Magnefusion magnetic strap keeper works in lieu of a snap.

The Revolver accepts the entire range of Bell helmet face shields as well as the Bell transitions shield. All these shields remove and replace in seconds and are coated with Bell’s NutraFog II anti-fog treatment.

The DOT certified helmet has a polycarbonate shell and weighs on average 3 pounds, 14 ounces (1,750 grams). It comes in four solid colors: white, silver, matte black, and black, plus the Bell Revolver Rally (see top photo) in gloss black with white stripe.

We will road test this helmet next, and give you a road review as soon as we are able. Stay tuned.
