Sissis started from the third spot on the grid today, but was leading the race by the end of lap 1. Sissis held the lead from the end of lap 1 to the end of the race, finishing more than 3 seconds ahead of Oettl.
“I just went for it and once I got in front I watched out for the pit board and I could see the gap was getting bigger,” said 15-year-old Sissis.
Behind Sissis, Oettl captured second place giving him a 1-2 finish for the weekend. Oettl earned an impressive 45 points during the Jerez weeend, and now leads the series by 10 points over Sissis.
“I didn’t make a great start so I had some work to do to get into 2nd place,” Oettl said. “I pushed as hard as I could but Arthur was just too fast today there was nothing I could do to catch him.”
Third for the day, and third in the overall standings, was 13-year-old Aaron Espana. Espana started in 15th today, and had to put in some quick laps to catch up to Oettl and Sissis.
“I am very happy with 3rd,” said España. “It was a great race, a lot of fun and I enjoyed fighting through after my bad start.”
The Red Bull Rookies will now head to Spain for round two of the series, which will take place on April 30th.
