British_Superbike_logoThe next time the British Superbike riders step out onto the track will be for the opening round of the 2011 BSB season at Brands Hatch. The British Superbike riders finished their final pre-season test today at the new Snetterton 300 track, and Swan Yamaha’s Michael Laverty led the way.

Laverty quickly adjusted to the new Swan Yamaha bike and was able to put in the quickest lap around the Snetterton track. Laverty had an average speed of more than 100 mph during his fastest lap, setting a time of 1’48.8 seconds.

“It has been a pretty good day for us and to be honest we haven’t strayed away too much from the base setting we had in Cartagena,” Laverty said. “This afternoon we made a tweak to the suspension but really until then I was blowing away the cobwebs as I hadn’t ridden since Spain. The Swan Yamaha was working well and it was great to get some more track time here before we start racing at Brands Hatch next weekend.”

Laverty was trailed by Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne by just .2 seconds. Byrne has two British Superbike championships under his belt, but he hasn’t raced in the BSB since his last championship victory in 2008. The HM Honda Plant rider has spent the last two seasons in the World Superbike series, but is happy to return back to the British series.

A Suzuki bike came across the line next with the help of Josh Brookes. Brookes, with the Relentless Suzuki team, finished another .2 seconds behind Byrne.

“I love the new track and full credit to the design team behind it as it is now an awesome track,” Brookes said. “This morning we were just bedding in to the new circuit and I think when we come here later in the year we will be faster once the track has had more laps on it and it is warmer. We didn’t really change anything from Brands Hatch and I was able to do two long runs and everything seemed to be working well for us.

“Once we were more familiar with the circuit we changed a link that we thought would work better based on our previous experience. I then swapped bikes and concentrated on doing some longer stints on the other one. I wanted to do another couple of laps on a new tyre but then the final session was red flagged, which was a bit of a shame but we are feeling good now and ready for Brands Hatch.”
