Jenny_TinmouthThey say lightning never strikes twice. Tell that to Jenny Tinmouth.

Already the fastest female racer in the world, Tinmouth has announced that she’ll make history a second time by becoming the first woman to race in the British Superbike Championship.

Starting in April, Spitlath Motorsport will add the blonde biker to their roster – and she’ll suit up on the team’s Aprilia RSV4s to show the boys just how fast is fast.

Tinmouth has been racing on the national level since her 2003 debut in the British 125GP Championship. Her previous record was set when she clocked a smoking 119.945 mph average around the Isle of Man TT circuit.

The racer is duly enthusiastic about the opportunity. “I’m over the moon to be in BSB this year and I still can’t believe it. My ambition has always been to race in BSB; I’ve been trying for some time and I think all my hard work over the past seasons has finally paid off. “ She adds, “Hopefully now people will see that girls can race too.”

Tinmouth joins former South African Superbike champion Hudson Kennaugh on the 2011 Spitlath team.

Owner John Dimbylow is confident in the decision to bring Tinmouth aboard. “She is a proven race winner and is a hundred per cent committed to the season ahead. She is a fantastic rider and certainly has the potential to be a very strong competitor in BSB.”

We’re definitely looking forward to that moment when spectators take off their glasses and say, “Wait, is that a girl?”

The 2011 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship kicks off at Brands Hatch, April 22-25.
