wss_laverty_valencia Eugene Lavery will be moving up to the World Superbike series next year, but he won’t be able to take his number with him. Laverty, who has worn been number 50 for the last nine years, will be riding with a new number when he joins the World Superbike series in 2011 since number 50 is currently being used by Sylvain Guintoli.

Laverty will use 58 on his factory Yamaha next year.

“I don’t have an emotional attachment to (the #50), but I do feel it has been very significant in my career so far,” Laverty said. “For that reason I am a bit sad to be parting with it.”

Laverty finished second in both the 2009 and 2010 season in the World Supersport division, and hopes that #58 will bring him the same good fortune that #50 did.

“I see it as the end of this particular era but I hope that 58 will become just as well-known by my performance on the World Superbike stage with the official Yamaha team in 2011,” Laverty said. “I’m sure I’ll go back to it when I get the opportunity. This year Sylvain has it but I’d definitely like to get it back as soon as I can. You could say I’m just giving it some time off after it has worked so hard for nine years.”
