If there was a track that would ensure that Josh Herrin would extend his lead, the Virginia International Raceway would be it. Herrin won both races at VIR last year in convincing fashion, and he is going into this weekend the AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike points leader. Herrin will be out to double his double last year, and finally take a firm hold on the Daytona Sportbike title.
“It is like a couple of our tracks where you have to be aggressive to make passes and I like that type of race track,” said Eslick. “The track has a nice rhythm to it and that suits me just fine.”
Herrin, who has four wins, will have some tough competition at VIR. Danny Eslick has two wins so far this season, and Marin Cardenas has racked up six wins this seasons. Cardenas also has two DNF’s. If Cardenas can keep his bick on the track, he could be bringing him win number 7 and 8 this weekend. Cardenas is currently just 12 points behind Herrin.
But the top three have not separated themselves from the pack just yet. Steve Rapp is only 37 points behind Cardenas, and with plenty of racing left this season, he could find his way to the podium. Bobby Fong has also been consistent in the Daytona Sportbike division, and it shouldn’t be surprising to see him near the top this weekend.
